Maybe there are more resources for the visually impaired? More public schools offer education to the visually impaired, and they don't have to be sent to a special boarding school. There are more medical treatments to prevent loss of eyesight. Maybe it's that Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles proved that the visually impaired can do great things and have careers?

When looking back at vintage things, there’s just so much to take in. The '90s alone were packed with iconic music, unforgettable movies, and gadgets like Walkmans and Tamagotchis that we guarded with our lives. From low-res pixel games to MTV playing actual music videos, there’s a nostalgic charm that still pulls you in.

And when it comes to photos from vintage times, nothing captures that charm quite like the fashion. Vintage fashion has a way of grabbing your attention without even trying. The silhouettes, the fabrics, the way people styled their hair, it all tells a story. There’s something timeless about it, even if it belonged to a completely different era. It’s no wonder vintage fashion continues to inspire runways and wardrobes today.

Weird to label her as "Downton Abbey Star". She won her first Oscar in 1968 for "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", had numerous other hugely successful roles, and awards, and was also of course known for her role as Prof McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies.

Potter would indeed be the more prominent one, though I think she eventually got more work within Downton Abbey (and was great in both). When people act for a long long time there will be a point from when more and more people will have missed more and more of it. Think the oldest film I've seen her in was Murder by Death from the 70s (hilarious though some parts have not aged well), so I missed the first 20 years of her career.

Eve Arnold was one of the best photographers, certainly my favourite. She was Joan Crawford’s preferred photographer, and there’s a story from Arnold about where Crawford was saying how demure and ladylike she was compared to others, and I quote “unlike that çunt Bette Davis!” Such a lady.

She begins by saying, “Vintage fashion carries a lot of emotion. It reflects the mood of the time, what people were feeling, what they were fighting for, and what they dreamed about. Clothes weren’t just clothes back then. They were rebellion, freedom, celebration all rolled into fabric.”

“Vintage fashion is never out of style,” she adds. “It always finds its way back, whether it’s puffed sleeves, wide-leg pants, or even the colors people gravitate towards. You’ll always see old trends coming back with a modern spin because let’s face it, some things were just too good to leave behind.”

Per Google- James Dean's Siamese kitten, Marcus, was taken in by his friend Jeanette Miller the night before his trip to Salinas for the races, with Dean leaving detailed handwritten instructions for her on how to care for the cat.

That was an utterly fine film. It was over three hours long but well worth ever second. Not only were there great performance's by James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor, but also Rock Hudson, an EXTREMELY young Dennis Hopper and Earl Holliman were outstanding as did Chill Willis and even a cameo appearance by Rod Taylor. TCM had the film on quite frequently and a must see if you haven't already.

James Dean was a scene stealer - a cowboy showed him how to flip a rope into a knot - he used it in on of his scenes where he was supposed to just be in the background. I saw the trick but never figured out how to do it

makes sense that she was a lover of animals. in the film, mogambo, she interacts with several different kinds of animals from elephants to primates to big cats to snakes. while her scenes in which she was acting alarmed seemed to a genuine reaction her interplay with the baby elephant and rhino shows her being very relaxed.

The Poltimore tiara was sold at auction in 2006 and bought by an anonymous buyer. The chances of seeing it again are very slight. The interesting thing about this tiara is that it can be worn as a necklace. It can also be converted into 11 brooches.

Vintage fashion isn’t just about style, it’s about nostalgia, culture, and creativity. It reminds us that fashion is more than just getting dressed; it’s about expressing who we are and where we’ve come from. Whether it’s in the form of old family photos, retro magazine covers, or runway revivals, vintage continues to shape the way we dress and feel today.

Historical doesn't have to mean older than X number of years. The presidential inauguration of a felon is historical, and happened both far too recently and what seems like eons ago.

I was there! I had a Fiat 500 and it had snowed on Sunday and Monday was my first day of work at Montedison. Though the snow reached halfway up my windows, I somehow got to work, only to discover just a handful of folks had arrived. Later that day, folks were skiing the Vatican.A memorable day indeed for this expat and the Romans.

From the Insta post link: “When Betty Grable was profiled in the June 7, 1943, issue of LIFE, she shared headline status with another entity: her own legs, which the magazine dubbed a "major Hollywood landmark." … “In fact, the published photo essay was nearly all legs. The face of the actress was seen in only one of the pictures that accompany the story. Here, Grable's face has been restored to several of them.”

This was a "Car of the Future", which auto companies made for the auto show circuit to test public reaction. That very same car was later modified by George Barris to become the "Batmobile" in the 1960s "Batman" TV series.

You'll recall that, because of the long exposure times, subjects had to remain completely still for up to several minutes to avoid blurry images. That's why the subjects look so stolid and even grumpy. Holding a smile for several minutes would have been very uncomfortable.

My grandfather always had that look as far back as I can remember. It was his character! On videos of him it was even worse, but you could see how hard he tried not to laugh. Yet he was the most charming grandfather to us, his 24 grandchildren.

About 60 years ago, people would buy clear plastic seat covers for their furniture to keep it nice looking. They were awful. They would stick to your skin and would make a squeak if you moved. My folks didn't have any, but their friends did. That sofa looks like it has a green seat cover. It probably doesn't fit right so they took put sofa cushions on the seat cover to hold the fabric in place.

Click on the name under the photo and you'll see the caption: A party isn’t complete without delicious food. Bobbing for apples and eating contests were frequent at early Halloween parties, as well as a table full of sweet goodies like donuts and pies. In 1941, LIFE photographer William C. Shrout joined a group of kids for their Halloween mischief and festivities in Zionsville, Indiana. His photographs show a night of activities not too different from our modern-day celebrations: pumpkin carving, games, bobbing for apples, and, of course, lots of treats!
