After Posting My Tweets With Interesting Facts Here, I Got A Huge Boost, Here Are 59 More Facts About Achievements
When I was a kid, we didn't have a TV in the house so I would read instead. My favorite thing to read was fact books. I found that a one-sentence fact was capable of blowing your mind, amusing you, teaching you something, and even changing you a little bit. I've loved them ever since. In 2015, I decided that I wanted to share facts too and I created my @FactBuffet Twitter account.
While my account had done OK, I definitely hit a wall for a year or so in terms of attracting new followers. I started to wonder whether my content was even good enough.
At the end of 2020, I was browsing Bored Panda and a random idea occurred to me: Why not put a bunch of my tweets together and submit them? So I did and you can find it here.
I was not only surprised that Bored Panda accepted it but very surprised, thrilled, and humbled by the response it has gotten.
Over 95,000 views, hundreds of Facebook shares, and my Twitter followers jumped up by almost a thousand in a couple of days. It tore down the wall that was blocking me: My Twitter numbers have been steadily climbing ever since and I now have the confidence to keep going. I also have renewed faith that I'm able to make content that lots of people can enjoy and one day (hopefully) I can do it as a job.
A huge thank you to Bored Panda and everyone who works there. (Especially Titas Burinskas and Violeta Draseikaitė for helping me personally).
My advice to other members of the Bored Panda community: put the work in. If you're an artist, ensure that you send in your best work. If you're a fact person, make sure they're all accurate. If funny posts are your thing, make sure there are no duds, etc. But most of all, submit! Don't spend your life avoiding opportunities, grab them. Who knows what you'll achieve.
Here are some achievements to inspire you...

What a positive twist ending! (But it could have been even better if the Challenger hadn't gone down. I remember watching this live on tv when I was a teenager. It was horrifying).
I remember, on the channel I was watching, they were showing the Challenger taking off, with the parents of Christa McAuliffe in the bottom corner. Watching their faces go from joy to confusion to horror. That has stuck with me.
Load More Replies...It was a good thing that they changed the name of the library, but fighting racism and ethnic injustice is an ongoing challenge. For every would-be despot, at every level of society, there's no easier way to get gullible people to rally behind them than vilifying "them", whoever they may be, for no other reason than that they are not "us". And whenever a crowd turns into a mob, sound reasoning, empathy, and intelligence are quickly replaced by a high of adrenaline and violence. We only have one life. Why waste a minute of it on hate?
Ive never understood why some palaces won’t let people in just because there skin color. :(
The constitution states blacks are 3/5's of person and in year 2020, we are still treated as such. Hope this helps your understanding.
Load More Replies...Omg Im reading bout him now in school, in fact, im still in school, lol.
14 Olympians have competed while pregnant, and doctors now encourage women to maintain their physical activities while pregnant--unless of course, the pregnancy is at risk.
That admittedly does not include competetive sports normally, as actitvity is considered highly beneficial, but sudden spikes in heart rate as well as very high level of physical exhaustion are not.
Load More Replies...In an unpleasant related story-Soviet Athletes in the 80's were encouraged to get pregnant and then have a termination as this temporarily raised an athletes testosterone levels and resulted in marginally improved performances.
The mist funny thing is whon she won the 4 medals at athletics. Our goverment (the Netherlands) gave here a present to praise her. A typical dutch bicycle
It is nice to mention her name, it was F***y Blankers-Koen, also called The Flying Housewife (a bit sexist) in 1948.
Sir David Attenborough is just an all round epic guy.
Any nature documentary that is narrated by him is so much better than one he didn't!
He is also the only person to have won BAFTAs for programmes in each of black and white, colour, HD, 3D and 4K format. The man is a total legend.
He's the freakin best! He should be celebrated more than he is.
Load More Replies...She did far more than fly a plane. She was a genius who became a world-renowned author, speaker and rights activist despite not receiving means of communication before she was seven. She campaigned for rights for everyone--wages, disability, gender, race, and she was an original member of the American Civil Liberties Union. While typically described as an American hero, her socialist work is usually ignored or glossed over.
I've worked with blind people - with these kinds of things its usually because of someone or something describing what to do. Which takes nothing away from those who fly or drive. I know blind people who have and they're amazing.
Load More Replies...And apparently got pulled over for speeding by the looks. Or I guess it might have been flying a plane while blind.

I'm so glad that the horror of 2020 didn't get her!
Load More Replies...Sadly not, but at least these two were lucky enough to come home again. Laika was sent up a few years earlier but they did not bring her home. She died after a few hours of overheating and dehydration. When I first read about the soviet space dogs I cried like a child for longer than I care to admit...
Load More Replies...It's still awful what they went through. When you read about Laika and realise what it would have been like for them, I'd prefer that the dogs (or any animal) didn't go up there in those conditions. For one, they could have sent the ship with a temperature sensor and something to the exact weight of a human to make sure that no living creature was subjected to those conditions. There was no need to put something living in it at that stage, other than rushing to win the space race.
There was though. There’s several characteristics unique to living beings that could all have been impacted by space. Something to the exact weight of a human and a temperature sensor wouldn’t tell you how microgravity impacts the blood flow, the thinking capability, the appetite, the manual controls of the spacecraft, the effectiveness of a space suit, the oxygen levels in the craft, etc, etc. Besides all that, the weight of people vary significantly.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry to disappoint you but as far as I know they died in space as there was no way to bring them back to earth alive. :'(
Load More Replies...wait it took me a hot sec to realize it takes a year to get to space in back and so they died also were was there dead bodys put?

Not a movie (well maybe 1 or 2 movies); just 3-4 minute cartoons. They're the best... my childhood was Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes.
Load More Replies...for what?! some of the most amazing movies I've seen weren't even nominated and a kids show wins 7??!?!
I feel as if I grew up with Tom & Jerry. We watched them as a family and absolutely loved them!
He is a preacher and gynecologist who helped women who were raped by warring factions as well as getting involved politically in trying to stop the use of sexual violence in war/conflict. He is my definition of a hero.
Thank you Zophra, I like your definition of a hero better than most others.
Load More Replies...Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Life of Pi (2012). His 1st Oscar was Best Foreign Language Film for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
Some people claim to be so good at something that they can do it with one arm tied behind their back. This guy took it to the extreme.
I just upvoted your comment with one hand. Success!
Load More Replies...Yeah it's a leg game. It's actually a foul I believe to touch the ball at all with your hands unless you're the goalie. I may be wrong on that though not 100%
Load More Replies...She's a bit shady cause she was prime Minister and had her sticky little fingers in the whole ordeal when some members of parliament stole one billion dollars from the country. They were not held accountable and the money has not been recovered. It seems every country is corrupt these days

Lots of practice. The muscle memory you gain helps you "lock on" to a stationary object. He probably had a great coach who would help him line up correctly, and help him adjust. South Korea has an AMAZING Olympic archery program, starting kids as young as 2 years old!
Load More Replies...When I was 10 years old I lost my glasses on the beach in France while on vacation. The remaining 2 weeks I had to live without my glasses, but was suddenly ruling with jeux de boules.
"There are a lot of wrong things said about me," he says. "I don't have a guide dog or a cane, and I'm not disabled. I need glasses to read the newspaper, but millions of people don't feel any different." The legend surrounding his eyes arose when he showed up at the Olympics in 2004 at age 18 as the youngest archer at the time. He told of his poor eyesight, but that he still preferred to shoot without glasses because glasses would only bother him. He explained how he aims at the target, namely via the colors of the target. "It looks to me like different colored images have been dipped into the water."
Have you ever tried blind archery? You don't know what you're missing.
Wow that's impressive! also i didn't even know they had archery in the olympics, but it makes sense
Really? It was one of the original events in the antique games, and have never stopped.
Load More Replies...But, well of course! I loved that episode he was so funny, he got hurt feelings so phoebe pretended to find him very sexy so he felt better
Thank you Lauren, used to watch Friends but I didn't see that one.

Some of the rioters at the Capitol carried the flag of Georgia (the country). They had obviously Googled "Georgia flag" and used the first one shown.
That must have been embarrassing for the patriotic 'muricans.

He is now an amazing coach for Olympic equestrian teams. He had some fantastic horses, and was able to bring perfection out of them.
His name is Plamen Lubernov. Here's a link to his performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE-eBTdYUSU
Thank you so much for this. I watched it and am impressed.
Load More Replies...And he absolutely HATED the role. He spent a lot of time bad mouthing the movie, his role and everything about it. And I thought he was perfect in the role. I was so disappointed.
Even Lucas' wife hated the movie and thought it was going to ruin them. Peter Cushing also thought it was kind of stupid.
Load More Replies...They were robbed! R2D2 put so much soul and passion into his role and did not even get nominated!
That's because Lucas didn't know s**t about casting or directing...obviously.
Little no fact I just made up. Will Smith was played by E.T. That is a great make up job.
It is for a football (soccer) player. Usually goalkeepers are the oldest players in their mid-30's.
Load More Replies...Sir Hugh Beaver, who had the idea, worked for Guinness Brewery.

Ross McWhirter was shot and killed by two IRA volunteers, Harry Duggan and Hugh Doherty, both of whom were members of what became known as the Balcombe Street Gang on the 27 of November 1975.
Ross was assassinated by the IRA. He had somewhat extreme views on Irish nationals in the UK...
Yes his views were a bit extreme but so are the IRA's. They are nothing but terrorist scum. Ross offered a reward for information about IRA bombings in England that's why he became a target.
Load More Replies...The McWhirter twins were the head honchos of the Guinness Book of Records for years, until the mid-1970s at least, I think.
I love the first fact. However, 'one of the only' didn't really tell us any info.
Yeah. It's either "the only" or "one of x players". Apart from that: awesome achievement!
Load More Replies...I know hardly anything about baseball, living in England. Why has he got one finger outside his glove? Is it because the glove is too big for him?
No, it’s a weird thing actually. It helps with grip and actually feels more natural. I’m sure there’s a better scientific explanation but all I can say is that every time I’ve ever worn a glove I’ve done it
Load More Replies...apperantly its a spin-off and prequel to the harry potter series, i didnt know that until just now
Load More Replies...Also, does anyone else see an Oscar and think: "It looks like C3P0."?
That film definitely had its flaws, but I confess: I do prefer it to the Harry Potter films, perhaps because the HP films left out so many important details from the books, and as Fantastic beasts wasn't based on a book, the storyline made a bit more sense than those of the HP films. I give Fantastic Beasts a 3.5/5.
I love this movie so much. I still dont understand why the og harry potter movies never won one. The story is great, the actors are great (most of them were just children) and some of the scenes are just stunning
Does it really count as Harry Potter film? It just shares the same universe.
I like this thread, but some of the facts are sloppily written. Like, find out the persons name, what they won their prices for or - in this case - add the height!
He deserves admiration in that he never sought to profit off his unique condition. Sadly, he died at 22 due to an infection caused by a poorly-fitting leg brace.
He was an architect and invented the rubrik's Cube as a means to model three-dimensional movements to his students.
He was a Royal Saudi Air Force pilot who flew aboard the American STS-51-G Space Shuttle mission as a payload specialist and was the youngest person to fly on the space shuttle
He is one of approximately 2,000 Saudi Princes. Had to get a "real job" - glad he did. He's an excellent payload specialist.
Saudi royal money was definitely involved, but he has a Masters from Syracuse University. He was part of the mission as a representative of ARABSAT who owned one of the three communications satellites launched by that mission. It wasn't exactly a tourist trip.
Load More Replies...Best series ever...game of thrones could've been until it took a s**t with its trousers on in series 8!
Well, most people ignore Leto's version anyway. His tantrum over Joaquin playing the role was hilarious- full-on meltdown that ended with him wandering into the desert to start his cult thing. I wouldn't normally laugh at this kind of bad luck, but his reaction was wildly childish for a middle aged dude. It was almost territorial and possessive over the character (which he ruined for the majority of die-hard fans anyway).
That is a bit disturbing. And pathetic.
Load More Replies...Leto was the best Joker. The last Joker movie could have been about anyone not just the joker. Best thing about it was the Sesame Street Version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqpak5lFxvs
Does it hurt to write their names? Because the names are tiny on this monuments. William Bragg and Lawrence Bragg.
The ipod was invented by a high school classmate of mine, Tony Fadell. He went on to invent the Nest programmable thermostat.
I never watched the show, and only read one news artical the guys arreste.
Considering he is not labeled a serial killer but he was responsible for the deaths of 20 million, this is an understatement.
Load More Replies...Hitler was too, I believe. The title refers to being influential - which can be good or bad. Stalin, Hitler and Bezos certainly influenced the world.
"He who must not be named did great things. Terrible, yes, but great."
Load More Replies...Personally, I think he's a d*ck. To have so much and not at least give back to the people who got you there. I might be remembering this wrong, but early in the pandemic, there was a notice on amazon asking for donations for the amazon drivers. I was aghast, he has all this wealth and isn't even embarrassed to be asking customers for donations for his employees?
He is disgusting. He does not pay taxes and his employees work under abysmal conditions. He could afford to pay them a living wage and he could afford to allow them bathroom breaks!
Load More Replies...I can't remember the exact percentage, but a great many of his employees have 2nd jobs or are on Food Stamps because they don't make enough money. No wonder he literally looks like a "d*ck h**d"
What's the point? I don't understand you post, maybe because i'm french. You want Pandas to upvote your twitter account? I don't understand or i understood very well and this makes it worst?
I’m English and I don’t get it either, if that makes you feel any better 😬
