Which Is The More Convenient Way To Make Tea?
Microwaving might be more convenient but to ruin tea that way is a travesty
I've always wondered - how exactly does it ruin the tea? I mean, if you're not being a heathen and only microwaving the water, obviously you wouldn't microwave the tea leaves..
Load More Replies...Getting 240V is "complicated" due to a bizarre wiring system. Getting a useful kettle on 110V is practically impossible. If the standard plug and socket copes with around 13A, well 13×110 is 1430W. My kettle, also 13A, but on 230V, is just under 3kW. So that's why kettles are not that common. That plus if you're not a tea drinker you probably wouldn't have *that* much need for a kettle...
Load More Replies...Like others already said, you can pour hot water over tea after heating it in the microwave too and then there's no difference in results. For me, I usually drink more than one cup of tea, so I use tea kettle, but sometimes when I quickly want only one cup I can just microwave the water. I love that at work (where coffee/tea is free) we have a conveniet hot water tap that makes this depate useless.
The thing you make tes in is called a teapot, the kettle, electric or stovetop, is only the thing you boil the water in.

You're completely out of your mind. It can't possibly make a difference. I get it, people in the UK used to be able to feel superior to the whole world, and now all you've got is preparing tea.

Always milk in last. If using a teabag in a mug, then for the reason Rick has given. If the tea is brewed in a pot one pours the tea and then adds milk until the desired colour is achieved.

We have a little faucet by the sink, with hot water ready 24 X 7. I use it for all kinds of things besides tea.
Unequivocally, kettle and pour in general, but specifically my kettle. It’s not about being a ‘tea snob’, I’ll happily reheat cool tea in the microwave. The issue is different teas steep at different temperatures for best tasting results. In order of lowest to highest temperature: green (176*F), white (185*F), oolong (194*F), black (203*F), herbal (212*F). My kettle has a setting for each. The microwave beverage setting is designed to heat a cup (250ml) of water to just below boiling. This is a precise measurement, carefully calculated by the manufacturers, and predicated on black tea. Too much water, it doesn’t reach the ‘correct’ temperature; too little, you risk superheating the water beyond boiling point, which is dangerous. It’s not convenient to guess the right temperature for the tea I want to drink when I have a kettle calibrated to do it for me.
I pulled up a convenient sample in Google (top five returns to "tea blind taste test microwave vs boiled") and 4 are basically opinion because they all seem to think you can't fully boil water in a microwave, which invalidates a comparison. When that was controlled and a blind-taste test was conducted, there was no reliable difference. It mostly came to to standing beliefs and preference.
I'm upset that medical science hasn't devised a way to insert copious amounts of tea using an IV.
Load More Replies...Is this question too stupid, or I am too stupid to understand? You can microwave the water and pour the hot water over the tea... Why do I need to choose?
I wouldn't say you're stupid! If you're off with the amount of water you microwave/want a second cup etc, you need to re-microwave etc. Us kettle-users can just reheat the kettle (which is quick after it's already boiled initially, unless of course you want your second cup ten hours later) and call it a day. Also, if you're a tea geek, some teas are meant to be brewed at specific temperatures, which (some) kettles allow for whereas a microwave doesn't in itself.

So many divisive opinions: forks up or down in dishwasher? Front to the shower or turn your back? Wash hair first or body first? Leave your printer on all the time or not? Hats or not hats? Ketchup on eggs? Critical questions, people!
Up, depends, hair, yes but it turns itself off, yes, absolutely not.
