“16 Things Your Mom Might Not Have Taught You”: Woman Creates Video Series For People Who Had Toxic Moms Or Didn’t Even Have One At All
Our moms, no matter how annoying they may sometimes be, are the reason why we didn’t dye our hair green for prom, why our nasal septum is still intact, why we didn’t run away with a guy we barely knew to Hawaii to ‘start a life from there,’ why we found the strength to finish high school and get into uni, why we charmed our date with homemade casserole, why… you name it.
But some of us, unfortunately, didn't have the best relationships with our moms, and some didn't have a mama to turn to at all. So, 130k followers of the TikToker Eva_feeva found her video series about “things your mom might not have taught you” very helpful and relatable. That's why Eva_feeva just kept making the videos.
And we're talking small life tips, tricks and advice, like shaving our legs or tying our hair. No wonder her videos have amassed millions of views, making her somewhat of a TikTok mom we all need in our often chaotic lives.

My Dad Taught Me This One
An easy way to remember how many days are in a month is to use the hills and valleys of your knuckles. But remember, July and August both have 31 days so count off on both hands.
The way I was taught was, `30 days has September, April June and November. All the rest have 31, except for February alone, which has 28 days clear, and 29 in each leap year.
I Swear I Get So Much Use Out Of This Damn Label Maker
As we grow older we tend to accumulate a lot of paperwork. Some we need to keep. A filing box can help keep your important papers easy to find.
A filling box can be useful, but for important papers (birth certificates, will, marriage license, insurance papers etc.) I find that a fire proof safe/box is a better option (I also keep a copy of my expired driver's license and health card in case I lose the current ones, makes the process easier to replace them).
Hair Care
Bored Panda reached out to Eva Barda, the content creator on TikTok whose wholesome video series “things your mother might not have taught you” has been watched millions of times, with people finding her simple life tricks and tips very useful.
“I’m a 30-year-old mom of twin boys in Southern California, and I am a stay-at-home mom,” Eva said and continued: “I’m getting married this March and we have a giant dog named Ludo.” She started making TikTok videos “as something fun and silly. It was a light creative outlet and I enjoy making them.”
Distilled Water Is Best Fyi
Vinegar is an inexpensive, versitile, and natural cleaning product. it is antibacterial and antifungal. It's acidity dissolves gunk and hard water build up. It also eliminates fabric odors.
This Is More Cosmetologist Specific, Not Everyone Knows This And That’s Okay
Here's a little test you can do: Wash your face, pat your skin dry, do not use any other products, and wait 1 hour. During this hour go about your business. Asses your skin and now try to find your match in an assessment guide.

This Helps It Looking Neat When Put Away As Well
Everyone has their own method to folding, this is my favourite way to fold towels.
You are going to want to fold in half, hamburger style, then fold in half again.
Next, fold into thirds and flip.
Depends on the size of the shelf, and size of the towel. Fewer folds add less bulk, take less time.
It turns out that the “series started out light, just a quick little 'how to' on things I do every day, my first video was on how to fold a shirt. I thought it could make a cool series, on just everyday things that people may not know.” Eva said she had no idea her videos would make any kind of impact, and she is so touched and connected to the series right now. “I really enjoy helping people,” Eva said.
This Is A Great One To Keep In Your Pocket
Our world can be a little overwhelming lately. This can help you through big emotions. Used in yoga to navy seals, this will help regulate your fight or flight responses to be calm and think clearly.
In through the nose for 4 seconds.
Hold for 4 seconds.
Exhale through the mouth for 4 seconds.
Hold for 4 seconds.
Repeat cycle as needed.
I was taught this by my doctor as a way to deal with panic attacks as I hyperventilate quickly. in bad situations I start at 2 seconds and then go to 3 and then to 4 which is easier if your breathing is very fast.
Psa: Everyone Has Toe Hair, Not Just You
Shaving your legs is best started with a nice warm shower. Make sure to use a washcloth or body glove for a light exfoliation. If you are comfortable, shaving is much easier done in the shower. But if this is new to you, it may be safer to hop out of the shower. Lather your legs well with shaving cream or hair conditioner, I prefer to use hair conditioner. A 4 or 5 blade razor is preferred. If your hair is very long of dense, it is better to start going in the same direction that the hair grows (down). Every couple of strokes rinse off your razor. Then, go against the growth of hair (up) for a super close shave. Use a medium pressure. If your hair is already short and not too thick to begin with, you can start your shave going against the growth. Joints like knees can be tricky. Use light pressure and follow your skin carefully. Rinse off with warm water to get rid of any residue. Finish up by using a gentle lotion.
Always Keep In Your Pocket
Don't be afraid to be yourself. You deserve to take up space in this world just the way you are. We are all learning, growing, and completely unique. You are capable of doing amazing things. We only do our best with what we can. Be proud of yourself.
“The feedback has brought tears to my eyes hearing everyone’s journey,” Eva said when talking of all the responses she received. “Many of my followers have had their mother pass away, been abused, in foster care, etc. I am just so touched to be able to make an impact or help any of these sweet people at all.”
Moreover, “many of them were never taught basic life skills, or have had to figure it out along the way, and I am so happy to be able to help fill in any of those gaps. My heart is so big for all of my followers.”
Keeps Your Mattress Like New! I Bleach Mine Every Time I Wash The Sheets
One of the most overlooked parts of bedding is your mattress protector. It provides a waterproof barrier between your fitted sheet and mattress. Which protects your mattress from things that might slip through the fibers of your fitter sheet like: sweat, spills, allergens, dead skin cells.
Hmmmmm, sweat has to go somewhere. If you have a protector-rubber-thingy then your sweat can't leave your body that easily. Just sprinkle cleaning soda (baking soda) on matress, rub it in a bit, leave for an hour and vacuurm. Also, in the morning open window and air bed and room.
Pumping Your Own Gas
Turn off your car and take the keys out. Open the gas door and screw off the cap. First, put your card in and they will ask for your pin or zip code. You can also go pay inside if you have cash. Next, pick your gas. Majority of cars need just Unleaded. Pop it in snuggly, then flip up the tab to hold your handle in place. Wait for it to fill up. put the gas pump back, screw back on the cap and close the door.
Our parents teach us in Virginia. This post explained that this is for people who may not have a parent to teach them.
Load More Replies...Some states in the US it is illegal to pump your own gas. You can make it well into the later years of life before you are ever in a situation where you have to pump gas, so it is reasonable to be intimidated by this here. Fortunately I grew up in a state where it is a mandatory part of drivers education before you can even get a license.
Load More Replies...LOCK YOUR DOORS WHEN YOU GET OUT!!! And sanitize your hands when you are done, pump handles can be dirtier than a toilet seat!!
and hide your dang purse properly or carry it on you! If I have to see one more story about someone leaving their door unlocked with a purse on the front seat . . .
Load More Replies...Small point - not all cars have that arrow on the fuel gauge. My partner and I have three vehicles and only one does. Also, this might just apply to the UK but older cars in some countries can't just take unleaded - you have to know if your car takes E10 or E5. Almost all (95%) petrol-powered vehicles on the road today can use E10 petrol and all cars built since 2011 are compatible but if your petrol vehicle or equipment is not compatible with E10 fuel, you will need to use E5 by purchasing the ‘super’ grade (97+ octane) petrol from most filling stations.
Screw the cap on and it should click 3 times. Otherwise your check engine light may come on. Not kidding.
Wait, so does that mean that if you only have cash you still pay in advance? Is it like, you go in and guess how much you’re going to need, and the pump stops when you reach that amount? Weird. Also, why would your zip code work as a security measure? Wouldn’t that be stupidly easy to figure out for a thief? Pin I get. Zip code not so much…can anyone clarify?
In my small part of Ohio, if we want to pay inside after I pump, they can only do it if my license plate is picked up surveillance cameras. I don’t have a front license plate, so I have to pull in from the correct side, so they can see my rear end lol. I rarely have to go inside for anything and just pay at the pump, but it was nice to learn that (a few years ago, I’m 40) As for paying with cash, yup, you hand them $20, and it shuts off at $20. Maybe still has to do with the license plate thing, or how old you look? I dunno
Load More Replies...Yeah, some cars use diesel. And i'm taking about a car not a farming machines.
I think the pump nozzle is wider for diesel, so that it can’t accidentally be put into a non diesel vehicle (US). We have one of each but I have only filled up up hubbys (the diesel) once. But I remember him telling me something like that.
Load More Replies...This is why my mom is happy to live in Oregon. Pumping her own gas flusters her.
I visited Oregon for the first time recently and I was flustered not pumping my own gas lol
Load More Replies...Here in the Netherlands/Belgium, the gas hose is long enough to go around your European sized car. (I wanted to say car but then remembered that in the US there are a lot more huge cars then here.) Quite often I saw a line of 3 cars for 1 pump, 1 car at the other pump (so not broken) but they all waited in line as their gastank is on that side... So I simply pull up to the now free pump and pull the hose out and around my car.
and definitely do not mix up petrol and diesel or you will get in a whole world of trouble
Who remembers, back in the day, pumping leaded gas with a cigarette dangling outta your mouth? Times have changed (good!).
This is funny. I grew up in a place that pumping gas was not allowed. The attendant had to do it. My parents moved away from there about 15 years ago or so. I visited them that first chirstmas. Christmas morning my mom asked me to come with her to get gas. Turns out she really didn't know how to do it so I had to "remind" her.
Some states your not allowed to pump your own gas
Load More Replies...I really dislike filling my tank (UK here) I would so like to drive in to a petrol station and have someone do it for me but hey ho...
I actually had to teach my mother to pump gas when I was a teen. She had always used full-service (where someone does it for you) but my state did away with that option. Of course if you have a disability or something like that you can get help, but there is no longer a full-service drive up pump at any gas station. (This was in the early 90's by the way)
I haven't seen a petrol station with attended pumps since the last century!
This is SO SO ridiculous. Poor little rich girl never learned how to fill a petrol tank??
First time I showed my daughter how to do this, it was awful. I problems with my card (upside down). Then for some reason it wouldn't pump. I'd squeeze the handle on the nozzle it would click and release. I had to start from scratch three times. By this time my daughter and I were laughing so hard. "Great lesson, Mom I guess I know what not to do."
My mom was great, but didnt know how to drive, so she couldn't teach me. I had to learn on my own ,and thin I learned this on my own too. I now wish Youtube had been around for all of that!
duh, is this whole post just for the low IQ? Lamest of everything panda has put out.
And please don't do what a woman beside us did yesterday--she was smoking while filling up.
$74 for 18 gallons??? Does she own a hummer or some other huge truck? Realistic tip...only fill up totally when you can afford to and then limit your unnecessary trips so you have gas to make it back & forth to work.
my old subaru had the pump icon in the middle of the dash and NO arrow. it was on the right side of the car.
Seriously, was this person raised by wolves, that daily functioning is this great revelation? Next - tying shoe laces.
I guess you aren't that well educated because there are states that don't allow you to pump your own gas. Obviously people in those states don't learn to pump gas unless they work at a gas station. Way to act pretentious
Load More Replies...Smh, only in 'murica. Why the hell are you not allowed to pump your own gas??? Pathetic
Smh, so uneducated. Why the hell don't you know it's only certain states that don't allow you to pump your own gas?? Pathetic
Load More Replies...This would have been so helpful for me when I just had my drivers' license!!!! And no, not because I was lazy or stuck-up and let someone else pump for gas, and no, not because I was not permitted to do it or because I was stupid or whatever other reason as given below.... It was because I had anxiety, driving a car alone was petrifying. Going somewhere new, without knowing how to get there or where I could park, was scary. Having to pump gas on my own was bad as well. How does that work, what if it goes wrong, what if I look a fool or mess up? What if I freeze? I always tried to go to the same place, at least I knew how it worked there and it was quiet. And this step by step fool-proof explanation is pretty calming and helpful and without judgement.
Whilst I understand crippling anxiety, for social anxiety there would be nothing worse than having to interact with someone to fill up the tank.
Load More Replies...About the arrow... Not true for all cars. My car doesn't have any arrow.
We know that, but saying "gasoline" or "petrol fuel" is such a mouthful. We can tell which way it's meant by the sentence structure when it's used.
Load More Replies...My dad taught me that before you grab the nozzle you need to touch something metal on the car to discharge any static electricity you may have in your body. Then touch the car again before removing the nozzle. When he was young he witnessed someone getting severely burned at the pump because static electricity spark ignited the gas fumes. Also, don't get back in your car while pumping, just wait for it to finish.
In the UK, we have to hold the button on the pump so if we got back into the car, nothing would happen.
Load More Replies...I realize she's trying to be helpful but who doesn't know how to pump gas? Unless you live in Oregon where, from my understanding, you can't pump your own gas.
Many people don't which is why some good driving instructors make you fill their cars then start lesson
Load More Replies...If your confused how how to use a very simple gas pump then you defintally are to stupid to drive
Or you grew up in an area that does not PERMIT drivers to pump their own, so hadn't yet had a chance to learn how.
Load More Replies...There are plenty of places in the world where you're actually not allowed to pump your own gas. Non-rural Oregon's a great example. Amusingly, despite having lived here my entire life, I had to teach my wife (who grew up in Texas) how to pump gas when we went up to Seattle a few years back. (She didn't learn to drive until after moving to Oregon.)

Your detergent bottle will tell you which line to fill to. Mine is the top line. Put in the detergent first. Then load your clothes. Don't pack them too tight, you want the clothes to be able to swish around. For this kind of load, a medium soil, warm water, and normal cycle is just fine.
Fun Fact: I Am A Licensed Cosmetologist. Also Don’t Be Afraid To Extend Care To Your Hands, Chest, And Back Of The Hands
Make a little swmming pool with your hands to gently wet your skin. Try to match your cleanser to your skin type: normal, dry, oily, combination, or sensitive. Make your little swimming pool again to rinse and pat dry. Toner helps wipe any leftover impurities and prep the skin for serum. Serums are highly concentrated with ingredients to give your skin whatever boost it needs. Don't forget your neck. Moisturize for your skin type as well.Lastly is a facial sunscreen. Sun damage takes 10-20 years to appear. Wear your sunscreen.
When asked if there are any plans for the future in terms of TikTok videos and content creation, Eva said that she’s planning on “continuing with the series and maybe making more subcategories, like a series dedicated just to basic cooking skills.”
How To Make Eggs
I find it easiest to prep your eggs in a big bowl. It is best to use a wisk, but mine is broken so today I'm using a fork. Next, it is great to add some milk or cream, which can keep your eggs a little softer. Then add a small slice of butter to a pan on medium-low. I like to use a flexible spatula to fold the eggs around. Let them sit for a minute then fold around again. Add salt, pepper, and some grated colby cheese. Fold around again.
Adding milk or cream is great, but adding a little melted butter into the egg mixture will make it fluffier. Also, I usually add salt and grated cheese before cooking, just to make sure it's more evenly mixed. I also recently found adding a small dash of nutmeg really adds to the flavor.
How To Fold A Shirt
Going To The Airport
Make sure your bags are packed following airport rules. Many airlines have an app to check in ahead of time. Get familiar with your gate number and terminal. When first arriving to the airport, get dropped off at your terminal. You can arrive by a friend, Uber or airport parking shuttle. Now it is time to check your bag. You can check in curbside, or inside the airport. If you don't have the app, here is where you can also check in and print a physical boarding pass. Keep your ID and boarding pass handy to be scanned at security. You might be asked to take off your shoes and to place your carry on on the conveyor belt. All other smaller personal items will go in a basket. Then you go through a metal detector or xray machine. Take a seat to regather yourself and belongings. Phew! Take a deep breath if you need it. You're doing great! Now let's find our gate. Your gate might have a letter and a number. Follow the signs and don't be afraid to ask someone who works there for help. Keep following the signs and be aware of your surroundings. Check your gate screen to make sure you are at the right place and the boarding time hasn't changed. There are seats at the gate to wait or you can walk around. There are restaurants, coffee shops, and general stores. It's time to board! Go back to your gate. Your seat may be zoned into boarding groups. Wait until your coarding group is called. You're on the plane! Find your seat. Place your carry on above your seat. Sit down, take a breath, you did it!
A taxi seems like an expensive method of getting to the airport, but saves on parking costs and makes life easier. Get there early- better to sit reading a book with a coffee than late!

I find it sad that so many here call others stupid. This is not meant for people growing up in average families. But if your parents spent all day on the couch, passed out because they were drunk or high, while the whole apartment is filled with garbage, if you never had friends because your clothes were torn and filthy because your parents never washed or cleaned anything, if your parents never cooked because they a) didn‘t care or b) didn‘t have the money, then you might not know such every day things. And I‘m not talking about myself, but I‘ve met people growing up in such circumstances. They certainly didn‘t have anyone to teach them how to brush your hair or how to clean a bathroom or how to make scrambled eggs. Some people might just have left an abusive home and might be glad to find this list, and the last thing they need is someone calling them stupid.
Agreed. I don’t think people understand the gravity of what an abusive household looks like or what true neglect can look like. It’s so sad to see all of these kids getting called stupid. It’s not their fault. I like how simple she keeps it.
Load More Replies...I think this is sweet. A lot of those kids from foster care probably weren’t taught the basics. Great way to break it down and keep it simple. Bravo.
What make you think that kids in foster care don't get advice??
Load More Replies...Well done on topics that are often overlooked as being too obvious. In general those who need this info will already feel inadequate and incompetent so it's nice that it's being presented without prejudice or assumption. Thank you.
This!!! I can only imagine the embarrassment that must come with not knowing day to day skills, & being too afraid to ask as an adult. I am blown away by the comments on here. This beats those TikTok dances any day!!!
Load More Replies...Shame on all of you making fun of the people who find use in this!!! How terrible to tease on people who were left in the dust. Keep it up Feeva I see the kids you are helping!!
Nobody in making FUN of them,. Just trying to give them some useful advice instead of a stupid rich girl telling the what to do. We were poor. Both of my parent has Asperger's Syndrome. We kids grew up socially awkward, but we learned -- by observation and from friends. And just like Daria B, there are people out there willing to help awkward kiddies As 'they' say, it takes a village to rear a child.

After the bottom rack is pulled out... "shake" the top rack slightly "in & out" to get more water off INSIDE the washer to minimize the mess. (I can't believe how often I still pull the top rack first. 🙄)

I noticed how to fold a fitted sheet isn't on this list. NOBODY can f*****g do that s**t!
Yep, hold the outer corners (if looking at the sheet as if it was on the bed) so the elasticated part (that goes underneath) falls inwards. Looks the same as a flat sheet if you do that.
Load More Replies...I no longer need this kind of post, but I did have to teach myself how to do most things with youtube and google searches, so these kinds of posts can be really helpful for those of us who had to grow up without adults around. Also there's so much out there for boys without fathers but very little for girls without moms, it can be hard.
People! Stop acting like you never ever had that heureka moment in your adult life! I'm in my 30s and still now and then learn things those are pretty obvious. Watch/ read if interested, otherwise skip/ ignore and enjoy your day.
I suspect that the girl who posted this is dysfunctional herself, Not to mention that a lot of her advice is quite quite wrong. Ignore the whole stupid post. If you Mum didn't tell you because she never used whatever before, ask a friend, a neighbour,
My parents are very nice but is not bad to learn something useful
My parents never taught me this I just figured it out. I think most of these things are common seance
Rather alarming to think that people don't wash their mattress covers.
Why is it always the mothers fault? We don’t get pregnant by ourselves - two people required (even with in vitro) Mom doesn’t have the solution & answer for everything, so why is she expected too? Not knowing all these tips doesn’t make her toxic or negligent. How about we start expecting more from dads & stop shaming women for everything that goes wrong in life? Sorry, but I’m just tired of the constant knocking of mothers. Heck, even Disney knocks women. All those princesses either miraculously never had a mother, or she’s dead or evil. And if she has siblings (which she usually doesn’t) they’re all evil step sisters. Dad is always the big attentive hero that teaches her everything, or some pervy prince comes along & sexually assaults her while she’s sleeping, thus somehow “rescuing” her. Ever notice how the story always ends once she’s been married off/ finds a man? Kind of like life for those of us that aren’t princesses as well. Be better society. Seriously.
I had a toxic mom and had to learn how to care for myself. This is wonderful!
I think the title is strange...so if we didn't learn these things from our mothers, then they were either toxic or absent?
I can appreciate the tips and I get the underlying message, which is nice of her to do, but I'm gonna be that person by saying; WHERE'S DAD in this equation? (I didn't read the entire intro at the top so if it's already explained then my bad)
The amount of c***s calling the tips stupid show that they are that, c**t faced twats with zero empathy. A lot of people don't know these, never had anyone to teach them, lived in terrible conditions, and still have no one around to help. Those of you psychos who complain should have their fingers removed and your tongues cut off.
Being a mother (and mother of mothers) I really worry about all these TOXIC children. OK there were somethings I should have known that my Mum didn't teach me, but that was because SHE didn't know.
This is the worst thread of this kind that I've ever seen. Bored Panda, you might want to consider what you share with your readers.
A lot of the comments seem to be from abusive or neglectful households, so maybe not stupid.
Load More Replies...The girl doesn't have a clue. Not to mention that she is an exhibitionist, with absolutely no dress sense.

Load More Replies...Many kids do not have fathers too. Or fathers that abandoned them. It’s cruel of you to assume otherwise.
Load More Replies...What’s BS is the assumption that people who have been in foster care or abused and neglected don’t exist.
Load More Replies...Did you not read her followers' comments? Like the one in foster care, or the one whose mother died, or the kid whose mother abandoned them? And not all men were taught these things, so a single dad might not even be aware of this stuff. As a single mom, I made sure to teach my son the basics so he could take care of himself & he's now teaching his son. Not everyone has had a caring parent to actually take the time to teach them. Please, try to remember that, and be kind.

You are just a delightful bucket of sunshine and positivity, aren't you? :-D
