The Men's Bathroom Door Vs The Women's At My Engineering University
At first I thought that us women are just more "precise", let's say and use the proper place to push the door. Then I thought that it might come from the fact that there are probably way more men at an engineering university. Which makes me sad...but I don't know really, do I? So yes - it made me think. :) A lot.
Load More Replies...Sadly, I believe the implication here is that there are significantly more men studying engineering than there are women.
Funny, isn't it? In my high school engineering class of 30 there are only 3 girls, and our choice in taking the course wasn't impacted by outside pressure at all. We were just the only ones interested in engineering.
Load More Replies...Friends, it's not about how women open doors it's about the LACK of women in engineering. This difference in gender ratio in the STEM fields is why many groups are working hard to encourage women to apply and be hired.
Folks don't even know STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering & Math.
Load More Replies...An engineering university, right? Probably a result of the male/female student ratio...
Two good reasons for the markings at the gents' room.. 1) Gent's are usually taller, but the handplate seems to be at same hight.. Solution to this.. raise the gents' plate aprox 10 cm. 2) Aprox 80% of the population is right handed. But the gents' plate is on the left side. The righties are so imprinted to use the right hand even if the handles are on the left! So righties tries twist body to reach plate on the left. Solution: hang door on left as the ladies door.
But no one cares when there are more men in the military. Or cleaning sewers. It only matters when it is a low risk, high paying job that has less women.
Women use their feet to push the door at the bottom kick plate, along with their bottom and shoulder....go in like a linebacker. No hands needed.
I always walk into those doors sideways with my right shoulder. No need to use hands.
You see the similar problem in kitchens.. the height of sink and stove is low.. in older rental apartments so low that most guys get their backs hurt when doing the dishes! Solution.. in Sweden they raises it 10 cm when renovation old rental apartments. New buildings also uses the 10 cm higher. But best is were you can change the size with a touch of a button making it perfect heights for the majority of adults. But this is a solution very very very few get to have
This won't be true for long, since more and more women are entering STEM fields...
Apparently men don't use the metal provided, but the gals do!
It's sad to know how few women go to engineering school. It's funnier to think men just push doors with their heads. You go boys #
Not really logical at all! Front side of the door is less dirty than anything you would normally touch inside (taps, flush etc)
Load More Replies...As someone in a STEM field, I can tell out my gender has regularly been a problem. Women are discouraged from going into certain fields. Maybe the gender studies students can figure out why.

Foot Holds Deeply Worn Into The Volcanic Rock Along The Trail At Tsankawi, A Popular Hiking Area
I'm from White Rock, NM, which is very close to here. We used to call these "Indian ladders" or "Anasazi ladders." I liked to use them when we were hiking, but they are protected as artifacts in many places. Some of them go up very steep inclines and can be dangerous if you aren't accustomed to them. They are only for climbing. Some of the rock paths on straighter sections are worn down over a meter deep, but don't have individual footsteps. They are strangely narrow and hard to walk on, and they used to tell us that the Anasazi walked by keeping one foot in front all the time -- scooting, kind of. I recently talked with an expert who says this is nonsense -- the Anasazi probably had narrow frames.
