Last year, a video went viral featuring a performer named Michael 'Chili Dawg' Castleberry showcasing his unique guitar skill—using a beer bottle as a slide. The caption read, "The European mind cannot comprehend this." People quickly began attaching the phrase to other things that they believed were foreign to the Old Continent, and thus, a new meme was born.
Now, Europeans and their allies from around the world are playfully flipping the script to get back at Uncle Sam — "The American mind cannot comprehend this" pictures are meant to single out what the United States is lacking.

My mom realized her passport expired... in the airport. They gave her an extention until she returned to our country. Took them 40 minutes.
I tried but they wouldn’t give me one. They said something about me not being Slovenian. I think. I couldn’t understand her because I’m not Slovenian.
I applied for my passport online and had it delivered by mail, after a couple of days. Croatian government is kind and understanding to introverts.
I went to the passport office in Philadelphia, PA. Arrived for my appointment at 9AM. Had a new passport at 2PM.
Fewer citizens and less risk of passport fraud …. Also possibly an anomaly. This has nothing to do with Americans.
Not "Americans", but the US system. I'm a US/EU dual citizen, and government offices in the America are extremely slow and bureaucratic. The number of citizens is irrelevant; what truly matters is the number of offices per capita and the system's overall efficiency. Sorry, but the "oh, America is so huuuge" excuse doesn’t work for every problem. The real issue lies in priorities.

My son took her to Atlanta to get a new passport but she doesn't have any ID with her married name even after 10 years except for the marriage license. Atlanta said they could take their copy to Germany to get a new passport with her married name, Germany says no, it has to be a notarized copy. He called me & I had to call my boss to tell her I need to leave to drive 3 hours to go to the courthouse where they live for the notarized copy then send it by FedEx that was almost $100. They had to finish the process of getting her grandparents into the same nursing home that her mother and aunt had started and clean out 2 apartments. They were gone for a month and sent me some incredible pics. They got a new passport there with her maiden name now they have to go back to Atlanta to get one with her married name.

"Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things," said Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in London.
The United States is the third largest country in the world, with one of the most diverse topographies and climates of any region.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, it has a population of 337 million, a child is born every 8 seconds, and a person dies every 10 seconds.

My Russian-born wife insisted that when we arrived to New York City, we take the, "famous New York subway" from the airport, despite my warnings. I can tell you that she insisted on a taxi on the return trip. I say this as someone staunchly opposed to the Russian government.
None of these post have to do with America …. BP has simply become an America hating forum.
It’s called a comparison, not hate. Highlighting good examples is important, and US citizens need to be informed about how much better their quality of life could and should be, considering the country’s GDP per capita.
Load More Replies...lol Apparently you've never been to rural America. I guess the European mind can't understand that most of the US is farmland and small agricultural towns. And this kind of thing is common. When I lived in NV the freeway would come to a halt to let cattle pass. Same with mules and wild horses. Yes, wild horses.
Lol yes as a European visiting the US I've had to brake for cows, elks, bison etc
Load More Replies...I've seen feral horses in Nevada and Arizona. In Nevada, they threatened to charge me as I was ear-tagging mice for research. I think the American mind can comprehend this.
Nevada is an open range state, with wild horses roaming free. But apparently, that is beyond my American mind's comprehension...

Hit a horse with a car and it probably totals the car, and also may injure the occupants. Horse right of way is kind of de facto, really. Also, I think horses are smarter about traffic than deer.
Has the author heard of the wild ponies of Chincoteague? The American mind can quite easily understand the concept.
Guess no one's ever been to Oatman, AZ where wild burros roam through the town.
I visited Norway earlier this year and fell in love. They pay crazy taxes and the cost of living is up there, but it still would be so worth it. Just so beautiful, the nicest people, and speak English (which is nice). As much as the far right bleats about Norse blood they could never handle the level of socialism and over all anti-Putin attitude of modern Norway.

In addition to Indigenous Americans, who were already living on the continent, the country was built on immigration from other countries. Now, a new immigrant moves here every 27 seconds.
Because of this, the United States is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. You could argue that nearly every region of the world has, in some way, influenced American culture, but most notably it was the English who colonized the lands in the early 1600s.
I hate this so much! I know it is for the nature, but damn when you need to drink water at night and the only thing that gets water is my nose and some scrathes added. And don't even mention screwing it back half asleep. Effing struggle.

My UK mind can't comprehend this either. Attached bottle caps have been in thing in the UK for a few months now and they are a PITA. Drinks companies have decided after more than 40 years that we can no longer be trusted to recycle our bottle caps along with the rest of the bottle.
Must be a bit slow then, have you seen our beaches recently? These caps used to be littering the beach near my parents house, this summer when I went home there were none.
Load More Replies...I guess I'm one of the few people who are not bothered by it at all. On the contrary, I like that I don't need to hold the cap in the hand while drinking. On the other side, I don't drink from these kind of bottles everday so maybe I just don't have the chance to learn to hate it lol
I hated this when it first started as I kept struggling to put the cap back on but now that I have mastered it, I'm all for it. Can't wait to go to a gig where I can take a bottle in and them not throw the cap away.
Ah, the good old Aussie reverse tipping taxis: "The fee is $20.23. Tell you what, mate, just make it $20." Alas, a dying breed in the cashless economy.
There is no "culture" behind the despicable and abusive tipping nightmare in the US. Pay a living wage, you fucktards.
I see a one cent tip in the example. Ergo, still a tip. I'd still love to see Australia and own an old Holden HQ Monaro.
Yeah....and look at the places that road runs through. The road of FAFO, no thanks.
This has nothing to do with 'America' not comprehending. Its just a long trip. You could easily say the Samoan mind cant comprehend.
Neat. In North and South America you can walk all the way from the Arctic circle to the antarctic circle. So, I guess we can comprehend this after all.

Load More Replies...Speaking as an American, I easily comprehend this. It is a lot of really good food. And now I'm very hungry.
The United States is sometimes described as a "melting pot", in which different cultures have formed their own distinct "flavors" of American culture.
But the way people "melt" in the United States differs. "Different groups of immigrants integrate in different ways," De Rossi said. "For example, ... Catholic Spanish-speaking communities might keep their language and other cultural family traditions, but are integrated [into] the urban community and have embraced the American way of life in many other ways."
But we would like to...except, of course, for when we want/need something from a business that's close for the "summer holiday", however long that is. "Where I work should be closed for a few weeks/months, but I need all other businesses to be open for my convenience." How does that work, anyway? I mean, surely you can't close all of the grocery stores/markets for a week at the same time... I would think any business that can close for an extended period of time can't be any kind of necessity to society.
It's called planning. You plan ahead for all the stuff one might need during this time. And you're usually informed quite in advance about their holidays. Also it's not for grocery stores, but more like small/independently owned shops, barbers or the like.
Load More Replies...This is an art gallery. They can close longer and I don't think anyone would be clamoring for it to open. Some businesses can do this but not all. Must be a great place for tourists to visit since summer is their primary travel time.
We have plenty of businesses that close for holiday. They hang signs just like this. I think the people writing these can't comprehend anything about the US except what they see on tv.

Litter or pee. I suppose as a nature-lover, I should tolerate pee more, but eeeeew! I'll tolerate the litter better. By the way: most American cities I've been in are incredibly clean. I recently moved to a small town, and I'm dismayed by more litter, but it's still 90% better than it was when I was a kid growing up in the 1970s.

Well let’s look at my daily drive: why I don’t ride a bike to work or go grocery shopping: It is 36 miles one way to my work place, 72 miles round trip. My grocery store is 31 miles away so 62 miles round trip. Usually stop on way home from work. My church is 10 miles away 20 miles round trip. A bike would not work for me. Even our cities make it hard to bike. Use New Orleans a person can live on the West Bank of Mississippi but works on East Bank in the CBD. Yes they can ride a bike to the ferryboat but limited number of them plus on foggy days they shut down. Some city have tons of bikes. New Orleans has tons of bikes.
I THINK they mean a shoulder? My new hometown doesn't build shoulders and I HATE that about it. I wrote on BP one time, "What's all this gaslighting about America not having sidewalks? I've never been anywhere that didn't have sidewalks on any well-traveled roads." Well, we don't have sidewalks either. You have to either place incredible, unearned trust in drivers or walk facing traffic and step into the drainage system (which is incredible!) when oncoming traffic appears. The main road by me is two lanes, no sidewalk, no shoulders, not nearly enough guardrails and steep dropoffs. I can't imagine getting old and living here, for fear of rolling my car down the hill every other week.

Many holidays are celebrated just in the United States. For example, Americans commemorate their independence from Britain on July 4; Memorial Day, held on the last Monday in May, honors those who have died in military service; Labor Day, which comes on the first Monday in September, celebrates the country's workforce; Thanksgiving, another distinctive American holiday, falls on the fourth Thursday in November and dates back to colonial times to celebrate the harvest.

When asked to compare American technological innovations with those of other developed nations, respondents gave favorable reviews of the home of Silicon Valley. Here is Australia the air con is a must over summer. Here in Perth the temp can easily be 40-45 degrees with overnight lows in the 30s.
I live in the US south where the humidity hovers around 65%. AC isn't necessary but with it, we are way more productive.
I hate AC , so artificial. I spent the first half of my life in France where it can reach over 40 C in summer and so what.. we survived... We adapt.
That's not the French version of Subway, but at the same time America is aware that Subway is a trash sandwich, which I guess Euroland is not?
Again they might not be everywhere and they are a little pricey but we do have these.
Eric Kayser is by no means the EU version of Subway. While Subway is considered junk food and a last resort for finding food if you are stoned, Eric Kayser It's an upscale bakery with quality sandwiches, pastry and takeaway cold meals. And it's still cheaper than Subway.

Um, I think that's an American license plate on that Smart car. Or at least North American. My neighbor (here in central Florida) had one. Hated it because it had to go to a Mercedes dealer for repairs.

Load More Replies...Again, please visit rural America. A cheese and onion sandwich, often with a pickle, has been a traditional lunch that you take with you to the field, for centuries.
The Danish mind can't either. That looks nothing like anything I would eat on my own.
Oh, the dragon breath afterwards, that's a huge chunk of onion!
Nope. Can't comprehend a 4 dollar meal because that sandwich would be 4 dollars itself or more.
Depends where you live. I can get that meal at the Dollar Tree for $3.75 ($1.25 each). Not sure I trust Dollar Tree sandwiches, though.
Load More Replies...Okay, that I cant comprehend, either. In Germany that sandwich alone would be 4€.
It's like 1,79 - 2,13 euro in Lidl or Aldi. Don't be dramatic, even in McD you can get a small menü burger-fries-soda for 5 euro
Load More Replies...Doesn't look as if there is much chicken in that sandwich anyway. Three pounds for mostly bread? No thanks.
Ah, the UK. The only country where the cuisine was improved by war rationing. They plundered the entire world for spices, then refuse to use them.
I'm from the UK, this is c**p I've never seen and certainly am not eating.
Load More Replies...Yep correct, or more specifically, London. This is a meat pie and mashed potatoes, with a parsley gravy, served as a traditional half-time snack at many football matches. You'll have to take my word that it is much tastier than it looks.
Load More Replies...Nor would most Europeans, worm cheese is very much illegal here too.
Load More Replies...Mold and bacteria maybe, but I draw the line at worms. that´s disgusting.
So does the law in Europe, beause this cheese is very illegal.
Load More Replies...Mold and bacteria, yes. Brie and Gorgonzola are two reasons to appreciate Europe. But maggots? no. OTOH, I know most Europeans can't comprehend that either. (When I was a kid "Mexican jumping beans" had larvae in them, but we didn't eat them.)
To be fair, neither can most italian minds. It's the casu marzu, a very regional italian cheese. So, you don't get in supermarkets.
Not just Ryanair. Like every european flight-company does this.
Load More Replies...Yeah, that whole inconvenience of the jetway between the terminal and the plane to keep passengers warm and dry is such a bother.
We have those in Europe as well. This is Ryanair tho. They'd catapult them if they could to make it faster.
Load More Replies...When I flew Ryanair from Edinburgh to Stansted airport, the flight attendant sold me a train ticket to get from Stansted to downtown London. I got to the train at Stansted and the conductor said the ticket was no longer accepted as of a year before, but Ryanair keeps selling them anyway.
It's safe to say hardly any continent's minds can actually comprehend toilets glowing in bright toxic prussian blue.
Load More Replies...Uh yeah, why would you want a glowing toilet? Possible electrocution? To admire your "handiwork"? Hard pass on the glowing toilet for me.
I bought one of those toilet lights for my parents a few years ago… Well, my dad.
Load More Replies...I have lights in my toilets as well. I bought them at Walmart. It makes it really easy to avoid to sitting on the lid in the middle of the night.
Just FYI, toothbrushes aren't typically locked away. That happens in small convenience stores or wherever there has been a lot of shoplifting. Now infant formula. That's regularly found in a locked case.
Looks like you went to a Walmart. Go anywhere else that's not a Walmart and chances are there are no locks.
I read the labels on EVERYTHING. I'd be these people worst nightmare
Locking up general items only happens in incredibly bad areas although it's true that certain things are commonly locked up for theft in most places now. Spray paint, perfume and higher ticket items are becoming more commonly locked up because they're small and easy to steal. Also, keep in mind some items are locked up not for fear of theft but for safety. Some otc medicines, formula, cigarettes... they're locked up so no one can open them, put anything in them, etc. Can you imagine your baby dying because some psycho put cocaine or cyanide in the formula and you didn't realize the seal had been tampered with? The Chicago Tylenol murders were a long time ago but it's an interesting read and makes you worry about all the items people *can* tamper with before you get them home and ingest them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Tylenol_murders
The double negative is confusing me. I've never seen toothbrushes locked up, So am I suppose to not comprehend seeing them locked up? Or is there some where in the US that locks them up and we are all supposed to have had that experience?
There is a major brand store in Indianapolis IN where there is a lot of shop lifting going on. So more products are being locked up.
Americans don't exercise. We don't walk. Our cities and towns aren't designed for it.
Load More Replies...Sorry, BP, this American doesn't even own a car anymore. I walk everywhere I can use a walker. Outside of that, yes, I have to ride an uber. Y'all just wanting to insult us.
An exchange student program from Germany had a harder time walking three miles than their American counterparts (Around 5 kilometers)
How is 16 steps 13,000km? Not to mention getting up or down 25 flights in only 16 steps...
The American mind can't comprehend using "." for the thousands separator, and "," for the decimal separator.
Load More Replies...My UK mind cannot comprehend this either. I think it's time to leave this post and downvote it on the way out.
Load More Replies...what? old buildings? they have old buildings too. Not as old as here, but old enough.
Old in Europe is like a 1000 years old in US is 100 years old. Big difference. These buildings are older than The USA
Load More Replies...What sorcery are you guys using to boil water over there in Europe?!? lol
Load More Replies...Walmart keeps us updated on the kettle market. We just don't drink as much tea since that nasty little incident in Boston a few centuries back.
We have kettles, just not as many people use them. I have one, but we use if for coffee and hot cocoa, and only occasionally tea.
We use kettles, lol. I feel like i should post a coffee Keurig machine image or something to show we just drink more coffee than tea.
Is there something about the bizarrely large lid-to-cup ratio? Or getting such a tiny cup and treating like getting less for more is a wondrous thing? (I know our 32-oz sodas are much maligned, but we do offer 12-oz, too. That looks like 3 ounces of ice in a 6-ounce cup. No thanks.)
Load More Replies...lol this is sort of true. that would be like a kid sized drink for us. We definitely have larger drink sizes.
I don't think anybody wonders why they have diabetes.
Load More Replies...Tons and tons, with more being built all the time.
Load More Replies...Have two roundabouts within 10 or so miles of me. I hate them, but I can definitely comprehend them.
Felt the same when the first one came here as well, but when you get use to them and realise that the traffic runs smoother, you starts to like them.
Load More Replies...Actually, many Americans had that town rug when they were children. https://www.amazon.com/Playmat-Non-Slip-Playroom-Bedroom-78-7X59/dp/B0CLHZP6N5
Not only Americans minds can't comprehend, also most Europeans have difficulty comprehending driving on the left
Yes and no. In rural areas of the US, lots of farmers have kei trucks. Are they legal to drive on the roads? Nope. Do the farmers care? Also nope.
There are plenty of places in the US where you can legally register and drive a JDM Kei car as long as it is 25 years or older.
Load More Replies...It will probably appear on the very next "redneck engineering" post...
Load More Replies...There's a few of those kei trucks where I live here in Florida. They look like fun to drive, though I'd hate to hit something head on in one.
Kei trucks have more carrying capacity than those oversized infant prams used by insecure rapey incels. same-pictu...668547.jpg
We have gross flavored chips/crisps as well
Load More Replies...We most certainly can. I just bought a bag of IHOP pancake breakfast flavored Lay's at Walmart
No you did not! Oh that sounds terrible and I don’t even eat junk food… But… Oh my. Color me intrigued.
Load More Replies...I'm definitely giving you this one. I'm still so jealous of Canadians who get to have the All-Dressed Ruffles all year long.
I doubt that. drinking beer while watching sports isn´t a european thing alone. not every get-together in america is a frat party.
Yeah even as a UK resident, i've got to agree with you that this one seems to be a wildly inaccurate stereotype.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry I'm gonna have to call bs on this one more than almost any other offering on this list. Do you honestly think drinking beer at home is not like...probably one of the most common things in america???? Do you think only college kids at parties drink beer in red cups?
Methinks that "not-America' believes a bit more than it should when it watches movies.
Where did this person get the idea that in the US, people don't just drink beer from a bottle or glass that didn't originate from a keg and sit around watching sports with their friends?
neither can I. But then again, the japanese also make sweet stuff out of beans, so maybe these beans and cream might actually be good?
Dominicans have a sweet beans dessert that's actually rather good
Load More Replies...Those beans are called "gaštany" in Slovakia and in this case purée is made out of them. It doesn't taste like beans at all. It's sweet and delicious. Only the consistency is similar to mushed beans.
Nor European people. This is not a food of my people I promise. I think it is red bean paste. From Asia... Maybe Japan or Korea..
Well, what is it? Is it about the white bottles in the middle? is it some d**g they don´t have in the US?
Lovely wood decor? But seriously, is it a compounding pharmacy, where the medications have been prepared on-site? (Versus a pharmacist just being a glorious retailer for pre-boxed, branded medications?)
I'm pretty sure if anyone can comprehend a basket of candy, it's Americans.
Are you high? American bread is classified as Cake in parts of Europe, and the majority of food in the U.S is packed with added sugar. We know candy.
I think the point trying to be made was that some of these are chocolate bars you can't get in the USA (Coffee Crisp and Smarties for sure - not too sure about Aero)
Nope, not Aero, unless you go to a specialty store. The last time I had one was in Toronto many years ago. Tre bien.
Load More Replies...As an American I can not understand depressed sustenance. A Winnie on something rotting?
They're attempting to. imply we only drink bottled water, never tap, which is untrue and idiotic but apparently also funny. At least to them.
Load More Replies...As a European I started to feel embarrassed about this thread. I am sure our american sisters and brothers DO drink tap water... Stop this stupidity...
Grab a glass or cup from the cabinet, go to the sink turn on the faucet wait for the water to get cold enough and fill glass. We all did it before we had filtered water on our fridges or bottled water.
i mean... we can drink the water but Americans are untrusting that it's safe because so many places have found out well after the fact that their water *wasn't* safe. Flint, Detroit, etc. But, it's usually perfectly safe. We just prefer bottled or filtered to drink. But we tend to cook with tap water and we shower in it. Brush our teeth, etc.
Or pull completely off the road to the shoulder to allow emergency vehicles to pass, how is this not a universal, worldwide thing?
Load More Replies...People will quite literally cut each other off and swerve across 3+ lanes of traffic to clear the roadway
WTF is this nonsense? If you hear or see emergency vehicles running their lights and sirens you are LEGALLY OBLIGATED to pull over and let them pass. Doesn't matter how "clear" the lanes are. And while Romania has the same law, very few people seem to grasp its purpose let alone abide by it.
This is not about the obligation to let emergency vehicles pass, this is about the obligation to create a free lane for emergency vehicles when traffic comes to a halt in a traffic jam, even if there aren't any emergency vehicles approaching.
Load More Replies...It's a bunch of Europeans posting bad cuisine and garbage they think is unique because they've never been anywhere else.
Load More Replies...American's pull over for all emergency vehicles and we even have a fire/breakdown lane on just about every road/highway. it's illegal to drive in it *although some jerks use it to pass sometimes). You can get in serious trouble for not pulling over for emergency vehicles so I'm not sure what you mean with this post.
This is the most American thing I've seen in this post. I've been to dozens of stores like this.
I really wish there was something to explain what's supposed to be so unique and mystifying about these pictures. For so many of them, the only mystifying part is trying to figure out what the issue is supposed to be.
what? self service candy? or what is supposed to be so strange to americans in this pictures?
The post-bariatric surgery mind cannot comprehend this, to be sure
I'm guessing it's because it's small enough to fit in your mouth, and the rest of the world assumes that burgers in US are as tall as a three storey house
Load More Replies...it´s a burger. what´s so special about it that americans cant comprehend?
Did you mean to post this? I feel like this must be a mistake. It's a mcdonald's cheesburger, which originated in the US. It's the most american thing on the planet. You might as well post an american flag.
If you're going to America bash BP at least make an effort. This article is pathetic.
Don't worry, it'll be Brit bashing tomorrow, "boomer" bashing the day after that, "What men find (insert word here) about women", "what women find (insert word here) about men", Gen X/Y/Z bashing, then back to America bashing and so ad infinitum.
Load More Replies...Hey, BP: instead of trying to divide people, single people out, irritate people just to get more comments, why don't you go back to kind of content you had when I first starting coming to BP. Back then, the content was cute, funny, warm, positive. This was known as one of the most positive places on the net, which is why I came here: to escape my crippling depression. But recently, all I see here is negativity. Couldn't you have found a way to present these pictures without bashing Americans? BP: you can do better.
Absolutely! The last few years, BP has really gone downhill.
Load More Replies...Bored Panda. This was by far the dumbest load of America bashing I've seen. Please can we stop this and focus on good stuff from America.
It wasn't focusing on negative stuff from America I don't think. Just focusing on positive stuff from other cultures and then stupidly assuming Americans don't have that stuff. Obviously written by someone who hasn't seen very much of America.
Load More Replies...One of the worst set BP has ever published. Did the leadership of BP change?
No, they're just desperately trying to be Buzfeed, TMZ and Ebaum's World rolled into one
Load More Replies...I am American, and therefore have an American mind. And it can comprehend every one of these things.
Yes, make a list about "Trump's mind can't comprehent this:" but I fear the list would be several thousand entries long
Load More Replies...Are the people who picked these pics raving idiots? Because most of these are fairly normal in the US, some originated in the US, and others are myths perpetrated by people who have idea what the US is
Or clearly what other countries are as well. Several of these like the Japan mutual understanding... straight up false. Authors who never left home, I'm afraid.
