My daughter is a type 1 diabetic. Before you pathetically blame one party over the other (which is exactly what they want the ignorant masses to do) please do some research. I can assure you it's the corporations that give money to both parties that are the problem. Lobbying should be outlawed! Worst thing for us other than the two party system.

I have know individuals that have had to go to the emergency room to get insulin here in the states. Makes no sense the ER is costly in itself, but being a type 1 diabetic not getting insulin is more costly.

Australia might be the cheapest, but everything there is trying to kill you.

I do not see how the words "Republican" and "Intellectual" can have any relation to each other.

I'm a Diabetic in Canada. $35 (without coverage) for a vial =1000 units. The pricing factor may be accurate but defining it per unit is highly misleading.

Universal health care is such a complex beast that only 32 of the world's 33 developed nations have been able to make it work...

Not all drug companies are based in the US. Foreign companies are just as happy to watch people in the US to die as well.

Why is everyone so surprised by this... you are supposed to rely on the government to make sure its people aren't taken advantage of. BUT if the government is also paid by the pharmaceutical companies...there is literally no reason to bite the hands that feed them.

This is the work of the insurance industry. They require hospitals and pharmacies to give the a discount, so these places have to inflate their base price in order to give a discount. If you work and have insurance, that isn't the price you'll pay. I know many that pay nothing for most meds, and most with insurance have a max out of pocket portion, which is fairly low if you have a good employer.

it's not an intellectual argument so much as it is a financial argument. In that their finances will take a hit if Big Pharma stops giving them "campaign donations".

Right now I pay an average of $250-300 a month in co-pays for all my prescriptions. (Granted, I do take about 13 different pills a day) Co-pay is the amount left over that I need to cover after my health insurance pays their part. Luckily I can afford it at this point in my life, but I haven't always been able to. Still it's ridiculous!

In my country it's 1.5 USD if you're insured, 4.5 USD if uninsured. But yeah, salary percentages also similar compared to Western Europe

Insulin was invented by a couple of Canadian Drs. They gave the rights to a university so it could be shared. Evidently that was a bad idea

Insulin is now a max copay of $30 in the US. I would entertain the idea of the US dollar being worth less than other currencies as being the difference on paper.

I'm one of the lucky ones who just happen to have one of the more expensive lifelong illnesses. Had to order some insulin from Europe some years back b/c I didn't have insurance at the time. Was like $250 for 20 vials or over $300 here in the US. F'n ridiculous!!
