No matter how skilled and capable you are, there’s no way that you can outrun bad luck. Learning to deal with disappointment and frustration in a healthy way is a key part of life. But let’s be honest here—many of us still wish we didn’t have to.
The r/WellTextSucks subreddit invites internet users to share photos and screenshots of situations that would make almost anyone empathize with what the people had to go through. Dennis Definitely Left An Impression
Why?!
I'm not diabetic, but somehow ..... As a person this still makes me very angry. As an European it makes me feel sad for Americans
It all fell apart when corporations were given person status in a country that believes in self-determination etc, The corporations have so much more money and resources that it is nearly impossible to succeed outside of the entertainment field or sports. Competition is great but not when it's ridiculously one-sided.
Load More Replies...Because all Americans have "a god-given right" to make money from the suffering of others. So your poor Republicans living in a rented trailer don't want to vote for universal healthcare just in case they win the Powerball and have to pay high taxes for someone else's insulin. Meanwhile left-wing people just want people not to die without insulin.
In the UK you are exempt from prescription charges if you are a type 1 diabetic.
You are exempt in UK from prescription charges for ANYTHING if you have any condition that requires lifelong prescriptions. I had my thyroid out in 2022 and now I get free prescriptions for everything, even unrelated medicines, because I need to take thyroxine for the rest of my life.
Load More Replies...Eliquis is $800 a month for people with AFIB to help avoid stroke.
Load More Replies...You had a revolution once. You need to remind your government and hold them to account.
Problem is the ones most interested in revolting are the last you'd want in charge... worse than what's currently there.
Load More Replies..."Uuuhhhh, mhhhmmm, cheap insulin is communism or something." - Republicans
Like the OPs "intellectual argument" remark. From republicans?!? Ha! As if...
Load More Replies...My daughter is a type 1 diabetic. Before you pathetically blame one party over the other (which is exactly what they want the ignorant masses to do) please do some research. I can assure you it's the corporations that give money to both parties that are the problem. Lobbying should be outlawed! Worst thing for us other than the two party system.
And who lets them do that in the USA? Or do you think the corporations in other countries are magically led by saints? You know WHAT they want you to think? That all politicians are the same, that it doesn't matter what or if you vote at all. And who benefits of you thinking that, hm?
Load More Replies..."Craig's bill since its re-introduction in March (2023). The Affordable Insulin Now Act passed through the House with broad support from Democrats and 12 Republican votes."
Republicans. Intellectual argument. I feel like there's a punchline here waiting to happen.
Oh no, people aren’t dying? How else will we collect thousands of dollars of medical debt? -republicans ig
Intellectual and Republican should not be in the same sentence. I am an independent and do not care for a lot of the Democrats policies but the GOP has lost their dam minds. Maga republicans or conservative Republicans or radical right, whatever you want to call them is the enemy of our country right now. The facts are that most people don't agree with their policies but they use every angle to force them in. Gerrymandering, lying and stonewalling is all they can do. The Senate GOp in particular is s a bunch of whiny children.
It's very simple, pharmaceutical companies bribe them to prevent legislation from reforming medical care from going through, and Republicans like bribes. (Unfortunately, so do Democrats.)
I have know individuals that have had to go to the emergency room to get insulin here in the states. Makes no sense the ER is costly in itself, but being a type 1 diabetic not getting insulin is more costly.
How is that even possible? No thanks to the "American Dream" more like the American Nightmare...
Australia might be the cheapest, but everything there is trying to kill you.
Well... except the air quality, decent food produce, and socual security
Load More Replies...Its against govt fixed prices when the reason for the high price is literally 2 paragraphs in US govt regulation that would lower it to about $10. Dr. Robin Feldman explains this in her book "drug war". We can have cheap meds, govt price fixing is not the solution, removing barriers is the issue. Its a system of corruption that no one actually wants to fix from big pharma to the politicians.
I do not see how the words "Republican" and "Intellectual" can have any relation to each other.
My husband just got put on medication to replace insulin but if we can't afford our insurance once Medicaid runs out next month, it will cost us over $500 a month, and that's with good Rx. And where the hell is insulin only $98.70? The cheapest I have seen is like $200!
WalMart came out with their own private brand of insulin a few years ago NovoLog. Cheaper than the other brands.
Load More Replies...I'm a Diabetic in Canada. $35 (without coverage) for a vial =1000 units. The pricing factor may be accurate but defining it per unit is highly misleading.
This is why we go to Canada or Mexico for drugs. Depends on which border you're closer to.
Load More Replies...Basic antbiotics and more. Republicans said obamacare was communist.
Not all drug companies are based in the US. Foreign companies are just as happy to watch people in the US to die as well.
Nobody buy insulin in France, Diabete is on a list of 30 chronic disease that are fully financed by social security. We even waste a lot of insulin cause it's something so easy to obtain.
Why is everyone so surprised by this... you are supposed to rely on the government to make sure its people aren't taken advantage of. BUT if the government is also paid by the pharmaceutical companies...there is literally no reason to bite the hands that feed them.
If you've ever been in a 100+ year old house you'll know that the house can be absolutely beautiful but the basement can be a terrifying place to be. That's the U.S.A., living in Canada's basement.
This is the work of the insurance industry. They require hospitals and pharmacies to give the a discount, so these places have to inflate their base price in order to give a discount. If you work and have insurance, that isn't the price you'll pay. I know many that pay nothing for most meds, and most with insurance have a max out of pocket portion, which is fairly low if you have a good employer.
it's not an intellectual argument so much as it is a financial argument. In that their finances will take a hit if Big Pharma stops giving them "campaign donations".
The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) in Australia provides subsidy support to diabetics to access a range of products and services, including FREE insulin syringes and pen-needles.
Right now I pay an average of $250-300 a month in co-pays for all my prescriptions. (Granted, I do take about 13 different pills a day) Co-pay is the amount left over that I need to cover after my health insurance pays their part. Luckily I can afford it at this point in my life, but I haven't always been able to. Still it's ridiculous!
Democrats have been in charge for years now and this still hasn't changed one bit. It's almost like both Republican politicians and Democrat politicians are receiving money from these inflated prices. But, that could never be the case...
It did change under the Democrats: Obamacare, aka the Affordable Care Act greatly improved access to affordable health care. The problem is that Trump got in next, and despite him only lasting one term, the Republicans have been doing their usual obstruction ever since.
Load More Replies...Intellectual? No. And it isn't just a Republican thing. Money doesn't know party lines.
As they are in Scandinavia. Also you guys have the NHS, we have a similar system. Hospitals are 100% tax funded.
Load More Replies...How do they have any support at all? Every website I go to that is not a news site is filled with anti-republican comments, and yet they manage to get 50% of the vote?
Rep didn't do this, big pharma, who is in cahoots with the Dems, did this
and that's the list price. in the UK, diabetics don't need to pay for insulin at all.
as an American, I can personally tell you that my uncle lost his leg because he couldn't afford any insulin because he got laid off from work.
In Germany, you only have to pay 1% of your anual wage for medical treatment, if you suffer from chronic diseases. Else, it would be 2%.
Trump signed executive orders aimed at lowering drug prices including insulin. Biden froze those orders then later forcer a 35 dollar price cap. At least try to find some facts please. All this plfinger wagging is getting annoying. Let me help you, Trump and Biden both suck.
It is not the Republicans or the Democrats that are driving the price up. It's the LOBBYIST.
As a type 1 diabetic, I am truly grateful that I live in the uk. I take 40 units of slow acting insulin and 30 units of fast acting insulin per day! I wouldn't be able to afford to live. I never take this for granted. I don't even pay the standard £9.10 for my prescription as I get that free. It's disgusting that people are dying from being unable to afford medication to just f@@king live.
Insulin is now a max copay of $30 in the US. I would entertain the idea of the US dollar being worth less than other currencies as being the difference on paper.
Yeah, no! The dollar is not 12 times lower in value than the pound, at least not yet.
Load More Replies...I'm one of the lucky ones who just happen to have one of the more expensive lifelong illnesses. Had to order some insulin from Europe some years back b/c I didn't have insurance at the time. Was like $250 for 20 vials or over $300 here in the US. F'n ridiculous!!
actually, in the UK, you'd get it for free, as if you are diabetic this is a condition that entitles you to free medication.
"Der Porsche muss getankt werden!" or "The Porsche needs fuel!" Means that you need to earn money to fill your car. But yes, that is ridiculous.
It is ignorant to blame 1 political party over another...Big Pharma owns them all.
Republicans? Insulin cost $13 in America when Obamacare was passed in 2009. Republicans warned at the time that the sort of regulations would allow price gouging because it would prevent free-market forces.
Republicans, really? I know this site leans left but that's still rude.
Thinking that this site leans left seems a little strange. The comments here lean towards decency and humanity - not politically aligned as far as I can tell. Then again, recent Conservative governments here in the UK seem to indicate that right wing politicians do tend towards cruelty...
Load More Replies...For the record, it was obamacare that made insurance too expensive for me to afford for about 5 years...all politicians suck
If your medical insurance went up due to the Affordable Care Act, it was due to the greed of the insurance company. Don't blame an overall decent law for the fact that it had loopholes which the insurers could exploit for profit.
Load More Replies...Guess what, the per unit retail price of insulin in the US is currently LOWER than at ANY time during Trump's presidency. (An insulin unit is the most basic measure of insulin used for dosing. An insulin medication that has a concentration of U-100 has 100 insulin units per milliliter.) From January 2014 to April 2019, the average cash price per insulin unit rose 54%, from $0.22 to $0.34. Then, from January 2020 to July 2023, it dropped by 10.6%, from about $0.32 to $0.29. https://www.goodrx.com/healthcare-access/research/how-much-does-insulin-cost-compare-brands insulin-65...cbf2ca.jpg
Load More Replies...Umm. No. That does not explain a discrepancy this big. And cost of living in socialist countries like Sweden is usually about the same or a little higher than here.
Load More Replies...I don't want to hear S**T about the goddamn border! Republicans drew up a bill to address the border and Biden said he'd sign it! But do you know what your beloved Republicans did? They killed it, because they didn't want Biden to "have the win" on the border issue. And news flash, sunshine, the whole WORLD is suffering from a s**t economy, as well as inflation. Republicans have become little more than brain damaged circus monkeys flinging their s**t.

Telling someone to simply tough it out when things get hard is pretty unhelpful. When you’re in the middle of a metaphorical storm, what you need is straightforward, practical advice and support, not empty ‘inspirational’ platitudes.
Something that is beyond useful is having a strong social network that has your back no matter what. When you know for a fact that you can rely on your family, friends, and coworkers when things get tough, it’s far easier to be optimistic about the future. This sort of help can be anything from literal physical help and financial support to sharing experiences about solutions to specific issues.

Another major boon that your social network offers you is empathy. You should never discount the power of having folks in your life who are willing to hear you out.
Simply sharing your thoughts and feelings with someone who is actively listening to you can help you work through the stress. And, if you’re in the mood for some advice, they might have a friendly tip or two.

However, you shouldn’t turn these venting sessions into a regular thing. You do not want to become a person who constantly dumps all of their negative emotions on their loved ones.
Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. How would you feel if all that one of your friends did was vent and rage about how unfair life is? You’d probably start avoiding them.

Your social circle is there for emotional support and advice. But solving deep-seated issues and shifting your perspective on life is going to take months or years of work with a certified therapist.

Now, this isn’t to say that you should always be happy-go-lucky around people. That’s not what we mean. Toxic positivity can be very harmful because it means sacrificing authenticity for the sake of fitting in.
At the same time, you have to be honest about how your behavior and words make the people around you feel. Always talking about how bad things are going for you is going to strain your relationships. Try to bring the focus on your friends instead of always putting yourself in the spotlight. Hear them out, too. Don’t always be the one who’s venting.

The reality is that we all have things to be grateful for in our lives, even when things aren’t going our way. Even in the worst of times, you can find a silver lining. But you need to actively remind yourself to look for it!
You could, for example, start a gratitude journal where you list a few things you’re happy to have in your life, even if everything else is a dumpster fire. Or you could start every morning by thinking about what these glimmers of light in the darkness are.

Definitely “Sunk” Some Hopes
For example, you might have recently lost your job. However, you’re healthy, have a happy family, and you’re actively working to create a future for your career.
Or you might be under a lot of stress at home or in your personal life. On the other hand, you’re making strides in your creative pursuits, you’re budgeting well, and you’ve been steadily improving your diet.
We all have small wins we can turn to for a burst of hope, even in the darkest of times. This won’t solve all of our problems, but it reframes our lives and gives us a broader, more nuanced view of where we’re actually at in life.

Fake claim, disproved by Burundi's official sources. Burundi had a slow start with COVID prevention, made worse by the refusal of President Pierre Nkurunziza to ban gatherings such as religious meetings because "God himself would protect his people". After Nkurunziza died in 2020 (of COVID, nonetheless), the following government rolled out mass testings and enforced some prevention measures. Still, they refused international offers for vaccines, preferring to go down the "acquired group immunity" route. When ultimately accepted the vaccines they did so only in small numbers, and with the largely ineffective Sinofarm vaccine instead of the better performing alternatives.
