Tattoos are becoming more and more popular. It's probably harder to find a person with no tattoos than a person with them. Many people "get inked" because they find it beautiful or because they want to have a meaning, idea, or memory on their body forever.
Another reason that is often forgotten is getting tattoos to hide body imperfections, like scars or birthmarks. That is what this Vietnamese tattoo artist helps people with: feeling beautiful and happy in their bodies.
"My passion is all about tattooing over scars, burns, birthmarks, or any imperfections on the bodies. I believe that a well-done, beautifully constructed tattoo will not only change a person’s image but also lift their confidence and overcome insecurities," the artist told Bored Panda.

The tattoo artist, known as Ngoc on her social media, spends lots of time designing tattoos for people who want to hide their imperfections. It's not an easy task, because you have to pick the best shapes, colors, and placement for the tattoo to efficiently cover the spots up. The skin where wounds used to be is usually thicker or thinner than normal skin and is hard to work with.
By helping people cover up their wounds, scars, and other marks, Ngoc helps them forget past traumas, move away from bad memories, or just feel happy, confident, and comfortable in their bodies. She uses art to heal people's wounds outside and inside. Ngoc helped a woman whose stomach was disfigured after having three children. She gave her a beautiful flower tattoo.
Tattooing requires a lot of experience, patience, and knowledge—especially complicated tattoos like these. Ngoc is a professional in this not-so-easy field. She has been tattooing over 10 years and makes sure that every tattoo she does is perfect, because fixing a tattoo is not so easy and can damage the skin even further.

I love how she incorporates the texture of the scars to give the design contours. AMAZING work!
That feather is great. You would never know that this is a scarred area underneath.
Did I mention how beautiful it was after as well? Love the choice of colors!
I love the way these designs change the viewer's perspective away from the scarred areas.
The detail on that fish and the waves make this truly a work of art.
Am I the only one who wants to know the story behind the scars? Was this woman attacked by a shark? To me, the scars are just as beautiful as the tattoos, with their illustration of survival. Both are beautiful
I actually thought her bellybutton was a tattoo of an eye lol.
It looks like many of these scars are from injuries or surgeries. In my opinion, these folks are survivors. These tats could be seen as celebration of their healing.
I had a lumpectomy a couple of years ago. Beforehand, I started looking at tattoos to cover it. But, I had an amazing surgeon who left me without any scar. At the risk of being graphic, he managed to cut into the areola and you can't even tell I had surgery. So, no tattoo.
Load More Replies...So many beautiful tattoos. I have a scar where I would like to get a tattoo but I am too chicken coz scar tissue hurts even more to tattoo.
Get your doctor to give you a prescription for EMLA cream. It's a topical anaesthetic that stops sensation in the area for two to three hours. I used it getting all of my ink, and it really works.
Load More Replies...I find scars beautiful and fascinating, but I know having them is very upsetting for some people. Ngoc has clearly changed so many lives with her amazing craft.
My scars are my story. I understand the need to be beautiful and these are but some of me thinks it's a shame to cover them.
Clearly the owners of these scars don't want to be reminded of the story or the scars. You can disagree and have your opinion, but as much as there's nothing shameful about having scars, there's also nothing shameful about covering them.
Load More Replies...I think they are creative and help a lot of people. But it's unnecessary if you're ok with your body.
these are so beautiful. i have tattoos and i have some major back scars from surgery and i can't imagine how painful it would be to tattoo over those. props to the sitters!
I'm not into scarification at all (shudder reaction). But the scars life gives you are battle scars to be worn with pride. That said, these are some beautiful tattoos
I have tattoos (not on scarred areas) and it hurts to go through, but so worth it! To me, the pain is part of the process. That said, I would never judge someone who's like "I've had enough pain, thankyouverymuch - bring on the Novocaine!"
Load More Replies...Doesn't it hurt extra to get a tattoo on some already damaged skin? Could that make it worse? It is very beautiful, but I think scars are rad. I have three and one of my friends has like nine. Scars are also really interesting conversation points. And if it's lame then you can always make something up ;))
"Body imperfections" is a really negative way of viewing it. I get and respect why you'd cover up your scars and marks, but nobody is less perfect by not covering them. They can be beautiful and powerful in their own right. My mom's hear surgery was one of the biggest most scary things she's gone through and she proudly wears her scar because it was a journey that saved her life. Like I said, totally fine to cover 'em up but let's not pretend there is any objective shame or imperfection involved in not covering.
I'm not into tats. I heard you can't tat a scar...I'm getting tattooed on that ugly tubal ligation scar!
I've always been of the opinion that one should take pride in their scars, but these are incredible. And if it makes the person feel better about themselves then I am 100% for it!
I used to want to get scars covered, but now my motto it ' Scars are tattoos that are meant to be there.'
I would love to get my mastectomy scars covered. After 5 yrs I still can’t bear to look at them. I also want to use my radiotherapy dots (tattoos put on for radiotherapy) and turn them into something else. Instead of being a reminder of a very bad time in my life I want to move on and have something positive there instead.
It’s also ok to appreciate your scars too, they remind you of your strength to overcome.

I got a burnt scar when was 11 and I'm looking at tattoos to cover it,though it as been many years I'm very self conscious about it.
This tattoo artist is very talented, and these tattoos are very beautiful, but I just have to say scars are a normal thing you shouldn't feel ashamed of them.
I have a few scars but none I'd consider tattooing over... I also have several 'regular' tattoos that have meaning to me. One is "Dare to Live" in fancy script on my inner left forearm: a reminder to myself to make the best of everyday...
Why do drs cut women that way? My body went from an a+ to an embarrassment thanks to a tubal ligation scar👿
Depends on the way it is done. A lot are done thru the belly button or using laser, thus little or no scarring. Not sure if this is the same everywhere
