That is eerily beautiful. It makes me think of something from a fantasy novel.

There's a kid's book, Island of the Blue Dolphins, based on a true story. In the 19th century, trappers and explorers and other (mostly) white idiots went after otter in the Aleutian islands in a big way. Karana and her tribe lived on one shaped like a dolphin. Her father, the chief, ended up selling rights to the island, and all of the people were taken to the mainland. Karana's little brother was left behind by accident. Karana jumped from the ship and swam back to the island. Supposedly the ship would return for the children, but it never did. The brother was killed soon after by wild dogs, and Karana spent 20 years on the island alone, until she was found and "rescued" by another ship. She was taken to the mainland, and put in a mission. They were never able to find out what happened to her people. They couldn't even find anyone who could speak Karana's language. She learned whichever language the people at the mission spoke, but she remained aloof, never making friends. As a little girl, she was my hero for trying to save her brother, and for living on the island for so long. The blurb at the end of the book gave what little of the truth was known, but I didn't understand the implications, or how depressed and lonely she must have been. She was only in her early thirties when "rescued".

Another Australian shipwreck, The Maheno on Fraser Island. Some time In 2002. At the time you could (at some risk) climb up on the boat. highanddry...99dbe9.jpg highanddry-64cb4fa99dbe9.jpg

It would love to know the back story. If it was a prank, the amount of algae / growth suggests someone waited a looong time for the pay off. If it was some religious family thinking Chucky was somehow turning their kid to the dark side - that too would make a somewhat interesting (if sad) story.

I don't find this scary but the thought of using same ladder without the water doesn't look very safe. I've climbed similar on farm silos and towers in oil refineries but this one does not look well anchored. Also the ones in the oil refineries usually had a sort of cage around them. Farm silos didn't but were only 50 feet.

If you *want* some creepy underwater action, Dario Argento's Inferno has an amazing underwater scene where the heroine swims in a flooded room. And the movie The Deep House is set almost entirely underwater in a flooded house. Both take the tension of a scary house and ratchet it up to 11 because it's flooded and the air is running out.

I don't see spooky things so much as imagine getting stuck in there as it flooded, gasping for my last breath as the room fills with water, frantically swimming in the dark towards what I thought was the exit, thrashing back and forth in a vain attempt to escape, and finally drowning in agonizing pain as I inhale water into my lungs, oblivious to the fact that I am clawing at the ceiling and walls, ripping my fingernails from their beds.

You'd occasionally see decommissioned sea mines in UK coastal towns. They'd be hollowed out, and a coin slot cut into it. They'd be used for donations to appropriate local charities.

So beautiful and sorry at the same time. It's fine to be interested and respectful at the same time. HOWEVER, had it not sunk, there would be little or nothing left of it for obsessives to look at. Its sister ship Olympic was broken up in 1935 and somebody kept the saloon and other White Star bric-a-brac survives. But nothing like that 'archive' the Titanic has held.

"Still, sometimes my submechanophobia rears its head in unexpected ways. Last fall, I visited Venice with my mom. The city is — famously — sinking. Seeing all the submerged stairs, buildings built on posts, and other evidence of a city underwater had me on edge the whole time. I couldn't even enjoy the classic Venice gondola ride without fear."

He was probably willing to stay there for years, learn the language and slowly convert them. From what I've read he was shot at several times and kept returning and very aware he might be killed. He was so brainwashed he thought risking his life trying to convert them was worth it.

It's pretty fascinating, but there isn't much in the way of truly uncontacted groups anymore. The Sentinelese are the only ones that are completely isolated, with no possibility for translation of language for communication purposes. There are other groups that have little contact, but nothing quite like the Sentinelese.

"The good news is that there are effective ways to conquer these fears," Dr. Padraic Gibson highlighted.

"Therapies must focus on breaking the harmful patterns that keep individuals trapped in their phobias. The key lies in gradually facing the feared situations, reducing the need for reassurance, and letting go of excessive control. It's a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. At The OCD Clinic, we have proven success with brief strategic therapy, helping around 90% of individuals overcome their phobias within a few months."

If these images, as uncomfortable as they can be, still seem interesting, try going through our first publication on submechanophobia; who knows, maybe it'll also desensitize you, even if just a little bit.

That's nothing, read up on how it sunk. But in brief, the hospital ship hit a sea mine and the captain decided to beach it on a nearby coast before the water did too much, so kept full steam ahead. But the boats were lowered anyway, even as the vessel seriously listed, so too many boats and people were chopped by the propellers. People did escape but the ship hit bottom and broke during the quick sinking, so that was it, the thing was doomed. The only real saving grace was it was only on the way to pick up war wounded. Had it been full on the way back, the losses would have been horrendous.

Military C47 was adapted from DC-3 civilian plane for WWII. I don’t know which this is, but if that’s the paint scheme I can barely detect, it’s likely a DC-3.

Not to mention how many sea creatures they are snagging and killing that aren't even fish! Sea turtles, dolphins, you name it. It's so wrong. Why do you need a net this big you greedy bastards?

Looks like that's a common misconception. "While the country experiences low temperatures due to its proximity to the Arctic Circle, several subtropical and tropical beaches are located in the Southern half of the nation." This lists 10 of the top beaches in Russia. https://funthingsworld.com/does-russia-have-beaches/

That's the same logic as "why do we need to plant trees when they have seeds?" They aren't putting plastic plants and rocks in the water. Coral has millions of different creatures living on it to create a new home for them.

It's a natural gas drilling platform off the coast of Norway. I'm not sure of the mechanics of it, but once they have it in place over the spot they want to drill, they maybe flood it and the legs go underwater leaving the platform structure itself out of water.

The deadbolt securing the visor bow failed letting water into the cardeck, as the car deck runs the whole length of the ship water cascaded in causing the ship to lose stability. Down she went. Basically the same thing that happened to the Herald of free enterprise in Zeebrugge in 1987, only in this case the bow visor was left open. Since then these kind of ships are called RORORO ships... Roll on, roll off, roll over.

Are these those diving tunnels that are too small to turn around in and a lot of divers disappeared in?

They can be placed in any cave like area, especially dive sites like Devil's Den and Blue Grotto that are on private property for insurance purposes. I have a few pics of them, most are placed around 60 feet, the depth open water divers are allowed to go.

That would be a weird recreational dive. I imagine they welded a lot of hatches and doors shut to help minimize the stupid for some recreational divers. I lived on carriers for years and there is a lot more to explore on one than the amount of air that fits in diver tanks. And some possibilities of getting lost if you don't know your way around. EDIT: Am also thinking of the amount of work to try to make sure every tank, piece of machinery etc had unwanted chemicals removed.

They take everything that is valuable off the ship, including the machinery that would hold any type of chemicals or oils while they scrap it. They did an entire cleanup to ensure there was nothing left to cause harm ro the environment, eith approval from the EPA. Also, this is a CV, not a CVN, so no risk of uranium contamination.

I'm not clear on your statement. Its particles moving faster than light in a specific medium. They can't go faster than the speed of light( a set constant) but they can move faster than light in water. Maybe that is what you meant but it didn't read that way to me.

I live in Southend-on-Sea and it's always said that if the SS Richard Montgomery were to explode, all windows within a 30 mile radius would shatter. The estuary is a very busy shipping lane, and there is an exclusion zone around the wreck to try and protect it. Given I'm in the blast zone, I very much hope it remains intact! Bonus fact: there's another wreck nearby called The London. It sank in 1665 and was part of the fleet that brought King Charles II back to England for the restoration of the monarchy.

This looks almost like the one water slide that made me afraid of these as a kid... I was like 6 and some larger adult woman rode after me. She was too quick, either she did not wait long enough or was just faster... She arrived close after me, landed on my back and kept me underwater. I was tiny and panicking, it took like forever before I could breathe again. I don't think it was as dramatic as I felt it from outside view... But it was really scary.
