(EDIT: Finished thread - this one still my favorite) I really like this. Not just because big / expensive. I mean the colors and vibe. It gives the impression of quality without being gawdy / showy and it fits my rather subdued personality. It looks like a lot of work to maintain outside but I suppose if I could afford that I could hire some yard help. Also, I don't think I ever thought a black house could be beautiful but here we are. I think it is the wood highlights. We actually have two black houses I know of in town and they look horrid. But they are literally ALL black.
The lines. The environment... textures... colors. Ah. All wonderful. Nicely done. Bravo.
That must be somewhere very hot with no winter / storm season. If this existed where I live then certain times of the year you would be surfing more than channels from your living room sofa.
This is Ostrog monastery in Montenegro, it's part of serbian ortodox church.
And here you are at the bottom of the stairs with six bags of groceries.
If it was a private house, first thing people would think is what a massive amount of money they would have spent on such a construction. But it's a church...so ok
That's an unexpected locale... fun little beach area. Just a really interesting area and building. Total Bond Villian lair vibe, for sure.
This is what I would want to live in if I was a famous actress in the past
If you live there you won’t be cleaning it yourself:)
Load More Replies...To me, they're very much like the traditional Moroccan Riad's , beautiful though!
Load More Replies...The tiles are really pretty but kinda make the pool look like it's filled with algae and needs a good cleaning with a power washer
I think I'd be hesitant to pressure wash, being so old. May not survive.
Load More Replies...when you can afford such a place, you can afford the cleaner...
Load More Replies...Well that is different. Buy stock in window cleaner though. Really cool how it reflects the surrounding environment... Interesting design study
What if it breaks? That's a lot of custom-cut glass! Beautiful, but not worth it imo.
My thinking as well. One good windstorm and the outside becomes the inside. The Geico lizard would flip his little scaly c**p over insuring this place.
Load More Replies...Breathtaking in beauty, scope, and design! I wish I could hear that organ play; you’d practically see the sounds floating around that room!
The interior is beautiful, but this shot is just messing around with lenses.
What drugs do you take to design this and still think it's a good idea when they've worn off?
When the assignment is to fit the house into a landscape, why do architects habitually create square shapes?
Love this design. Natural cooling, shade in the summer, and ferns smell so lovely
Just stop already huh? Move on if you don't like it. That's what the rest of the mature members of this site do.
Load More Replies...How do you even get into the pool? The room next to it looks very angled (as does everything else in this photo, apart from the ground). Also, I'd hate to have to walk to or from that upstairs room if it was pouring rain or snowing. Why isn't that stairwell covered?
Load More Replies...I agree, it looks like a building that survived a zombie apocalypse and then got partially restored by the survivors, but the survivors wanted to keep some reminder if the destruction as a monument to what they've been through
Load More Replies...Poor boy me is JUDGING you . How do you put that much money into house and outdoor furniture but you can't be bothered to remove the weeds from between the bricks?
I know what you mean but this is one of the few on here that doesn’t look so staged. It looks lived in.
Load More Replies...Very beautiful, very regal, but give me a tiny cottage in the woods any day. This is too fancy for me
I really love the ability to open a whole wall if the weather is right. So nice
This is only graphic design, not a real building, and one guesses that all of the lights would be on only to showcase, not all the time.
Load More Replies...Love it, but there aren't enough people I like to fill the bedrooms and share it. A bit too much for me, husband, and 2 dogs.
Whimsical lodge that incorporates every cool design tool they could think of! 👍🏼
this is a cheesy mcmansion....and frankenhouse to boot!...am i a rustic lodge? a farmhouse? gothic? a greek villa?...blech!
"EW!" The design seems hodge podge. Some of the dormers are either fake or just ill placed. The rounded roof one in the foreground pointing to the side is half blocked by peak roof in front of it. The rotunda windows are also partially obstructed. If you zoom in the neighbors have nice looking houses too but of a much more reasonable design. This screams, "I had money but wasn't sure WTH I wanted"
White-white-white. To me that show’s absolutely zero personality and just looks like an elegant hospital.
WTF? It's not even a real photo. This is clearly an artists impression....
I love how even the lighting is carefully designed to play with the architecture!
Ahhh, there's nothing quite like getting up in the morning, stepping outside and involuntarily going for a swim.
Gets that feel of ocean bungalow without the danger of being washed away during the next storm. (Until there’s a mudslide…)
Uh, not *just* to look at the neighbors. You have to give the neighbors an opportunity to look in and be jealous of what you have, too
Load More Replies...I think this would have looked nicer with a triptych Palladian window.
looks like something out of Star Wars in more of a human way if that makes sense
Same. I totally want to have a tiny house some day!
Load More Replies...Okay, fine. I’ll come live in the cool mushroom house, you twisted my arm.
Really, just cut it out. No one wants to hear from you anymore!
Load More Replies...These places with the huge windows make me cringe to think of the cooling bill in the summer
And the heating bill in the winter. Yes, deserts get cold at night.
Load More Replies...Something about these pictures where you look out the window at nothing but woods or desert or whatever make me so uncomfortable... they're beautiful, but I just don't think I could live there.
Hopefully there’s a pump in the pool that can we down the roof during fire season.
If I had that kind of money I'd have a foam system. Though the pool could still be a good source of the water part of that equation.
Load More Replies...This is so cool, but I think storms would feel scarier in a house like this. Did I say scarier? I meant more epic. (Okay, I meant both.)
I mean to be fair, the water features are in pretty precarious spots if you're not watching your step, and the brutalist concrete patio with a random uncentered hot tub(?) in the middle doesn't look particularly nice. Great view though.
Load More Replies...Wouldn't surprise me if this was built on the wall of a hill/mountain and this being the only possible view.
Load More Replies...Locally we call this sort of thing a McMansion. A fancy house built in a tract (or small plot of land) that is trying to be a rich people home but they didn't quite have the money for a rich people home. (Though I'm sure this place cost a lot more than my place)
McMansion is specifically a slang term that describes a large, often opulent or ostentatious, mass-produced house. The name carries a somewhat critical connotation because McMansions lack architectural uniqueness, class, or style. This house isn't that.
Load More Replies...The proportions are rather overwhelming. Having the different elements at different heights would be more welcoming and homey.
This one is probably quite nice from the inside. Appears to be right on beach so that rooftop patio likely has a wonderful view. The open part of the second floor appears to have a track so I'm guessing it has a large window/slider wall that closes in the bad weather - and still gives a wonderful view to sit and have a cup of tea. Actually, I'm realizing the bottom opens/closes as well. Must get some wonderful breezes in warm weather with everything opened up.
This looks like a 'let's use up all the odd bits of stuff we have leftover' project.
Big windows, uncomfortable furniture, big panels in the back where they will post the flight times, nothing to do except wonder if there is an overpriced vending machine down the hall. Yeah, very much an airport waiting area vibe.
Load More Replies...It's a top-secret government base for an off-books clandestine research and ops division! Can't you tell from how unobtrusive it is?
Load More Replies...they appear to be growing pine trees on their patio. And they are overcrowded even if they were not in a patio planter box.
They'll thin them out by getting a Christmas tree every year from there... And eventually they'll just replant them all 😋
Load More Replies...Google image tells me - Damero Building / Francisco Cadau Oficina de Arquitectura - APARTMENTS, RESIDENTIAL • CAMPANA, ARGENTINA - so "homes" of a sort but not a house.
Load More Replies...Again, I question whether this is a home? It's beautiful, however, I seriously doubt that is a home.
I'm a little confused here, help me out. Where did the idea that these are 'homes' come from? That's not mentioned in the headline. Just 'stunning architecture built by humans'. I mean, you're not wrong - this certainly seems to be an apartment building, and several of the others are likely built for other purposes. But I didn't see 'homes' as part of the criteria for inclusion.
Load More Replies...David are you drunk? Seems like you're just sh!t-posting at this point,
Load More Replies...I was wrong before. THIS is the ugliest building I've ever seen. Surely there won't be one worse than this.
LOL Disregard the last sentence. I didn't know it was the last one until I scrolled.
Load More Replies...Nope, the vast majority of these leave me cold. I do like big windows to let in plenty light, but NOT glass walls. The only one I actually liked was the one that was apparently a LOTR film set! 😀
Yes. Too much glass, not enough privacy, no feeling of warmth or coziness, and I shudder to think about the heating and cooling costs.
Load More Replies...The civic ones are great, the private residence ones just remind me that I’m living in a new Gilded Age.
not so much stunning achitecture but the usual rich people homes. Very few exceptionally great designs.
Too many entries are just blocks of pale concrete with loads of windows. When you've seen one, you've seen them all.
