Beauty is subjective. No one can decide what is beautiful or not. It's all in the eyes of the beholder. However, we're pretty sure that these photos will be beautiful and inspiring to most people.
The Sienna International Photo Awards are back on Bored Panda and they have announced their winners for 2021. From thousands upon thousands of submissions, they picked the best ones. The photos are not only pretty to look at, many of them grab you by the feels and do not let go. This year there's a Covid-19-themed section and let's just say it's pretty heart-wrenching.

"This little boy’s father Munzir lost his right leg when a bomb was dropped as he walked through a bazaar in Idlib, Syria. His son Mustafa was born without lower or upper limbs due to tetra-amelia, a congenital disorder caused by the medications his mother Zeynep had to take after being sickened by nerve gas released during the war in Syria. Mustafa will need special electronic prostheses in the future which, unfortunately, are not yet available in Turkey."

This is heartbreaking. War does not discriminate in the victims it claims. I hope that this father and his little boy are able to get prostheses in the future. Despite what happened to the both of them, the photo still radiates love.

When I was little, my family called them "lightning bugs," and we loved them! My younger sisters and I used to dance around the garden, watching them fly and sparkle. Thanks for this beautiful photo.

There is so much going on in this picture; the aggrieved elephant, the shocking adverse camber on the roughly constructed road, and note the pollution coming from the exhaust of that vehicle. I spent a week in Sri Lanka many years back and was producing black snot on tap within days. Most vehicles use untreated diesel. Not healthy for the animals or humans. I also went on a trip to Yala but it was extremely respectful of the animals; then, at least. From the nature of the roads now though I think these trips are probably a lot more frequent and consequently intrusive to the animals. When we knew elephants were near we all had to remain still and silent until they had passed. Sri Lanka also had (still has?) a well managed elephant orphanage.

Every single one of them had their own winner as well as the overall winner of the whole contest, who was Mehmet Aslan.

There was a man who was convinced elephants destroyed trees and were harmful to the environment. He concluded this after watching a herd tear through some trees like they were mowing a lawn. He decided to do an experiment to prove his theory, he fenced off a huge area, keeping elephants out. The plants withered and died, he was shocked but realized how important key species are to an ecosystem, much like the lessons of Yellowstone National Park and wolves and that of Aldo Leopold.

Many plants can only reproduce after new growth is allowed; large herbivores and their environment have evolved to depend on each other, and when you extirpate that species, the entire ecosystem suffers!!! So few people understand this...

Captive breeding of endangered species can play an important role in repopulating wild habitats, but it can also be a convenient label to hide behind, much like “green,” “renewable," or “sustainable.” In this case, though there was no doubt that the staff cared deeply for their wards, the feeling nevertheless was that the pandas were economic assets. There were no plans to prepare any of the captive-born pandas for release - all animals were being habituated to humans and used as attractions for paying visitors. To me, this image represents the juxtaposition between the intentions we express and the reality on the ground: a wild animal kept in a cage in the name of conservation."

During the dry season when rain is scarce, mammals and birds alike begin nesting. This winter when three inches of rain fell over two days, it flooded a nest of raccoons forcing the mother to rescue her babies and relocate them. Photographed with a custom camera trap.

So very many of these photographs look digitally edited. They should write a disclaimer that most of this is not purely photography. It's very disappointing for me to see. I appreciate the photos on here that aren't digitally edited much more than the ones that are. The real craftsmanship is appreciated much more than the magic clicks of a mouse.

I'm not sure what you mean by "digitally edited". All RAW photos have to be "post processed" in software to look like the original image seen by the eye, while jpeg images are enhanced within the camera to look like the original by AI algorithms. It is true that some people creatively digitally edit an image to look very different than the original but all digital images needs some digital editing either within the camera or without.
