40 Genius People Who Found A Way To Protect Their Christmas Trees From Asshole Cats And Dogs
What would Christmas be without the beloved and highly ornate Evergreen tree? Without it, where would Santa leave his presents? Keeping your Christmas decorations safe and sound until the gifts come is an easy task if you live in a pet-less household, but if you're an owner to an evil cat named Mr. Mittens or a funny dog named Scruffy, it might become a mission impossible.
From your point of view, the Christmas tree is almost sacred - you've spent at least a couple of hours searching for the perfect ornaments, then a couple more decorating it and a couple more admiring the final result. From your pets point of view, you've just set up a fantastic scratching post, high-jump training area or a snack bar, depending on the given critters taste. Anyways, what follows next is a destroyed tree lying on the floor with broken Christmas tree decorations all over the place with a culprit of it all being the funny cat, revenging on you naming him Mr. Mittens. The good news is that with simple hacks shown in the pictures below, it's no longer necessary for you to choose between having a pet OR having a fabulous Christmas tree.
Now go ahead and check our collection of ideas on cat-proof Christmas trees!

I agree with Amanda Panda...no punishment is bad enough to out-do the joy of destruction!!
That’s a cat being a cat. Don’t get a tree or or put a cat tree next to it. Or play with your cat so he won’t have the energy to climb it.

Load More Replies...I hung glow in the dark planets from my ceiling. Saturn was Ember’s favorite, because she could reach it from the edge of the loft bed. Eventually I had to move Saturn because I was afraid she would chew through the string.
Load More Replies...this is actually quite stunning and if I had high ceilings I would steal this idea!
Very pretty, but if the ornaments moved it the slightest, my 12 Tonkinese, who can jump 3-4 feet in the air, would all be jumping like popcorn and it sadly would not last. And the string/wires worry me, not safe round my bunch.
I love how you angled them as a tree too, pretty while it lasted...

I think this is a really good apartment tree idea. I'm going to do this. Beats a tiny tree on a table.
My tree is just lights directly attached to the wall. Takes up zero space and the kitty doesn't try to climb it like he would this on that looks like a comfy carpet on the wall.

Our Dog Proof Tree
The bows and how glowy and white the tree is makes me think it is some kind of alien gate, and the tree is a very important alien, visiting earth in time of christmas. I don!t know. But I love this image in my head.
My Buddy Decided To Cat-Proof His Xmas Tree
How do they do that upside down tree thing. That's impressive. Now put the presents under I dare you.
They can put the presents on the roof, if it has to be at the base of the tree. Technically putting them on the floor can be counted as under the tree

Are you going to hang the presents from the ceiling too? My cats used to always eat the ribbon off of them. lol
A Cat Proof Christmas Tree
At first glance, i thought that middle thing was a cat paw reaching up, and started to laugh, then immediately realized it wasn't, and felt disappointed. Such a vast array of emotions in such a short time.
but what is it really?! :D is that a cactus with a wool hat on it?!

Instead Of Putting Your Cat In The Cage Put The Tree In The Cage
Please make sure the white plastic kitty bed has several holes drilled out on the back for air. One of these types of beds fell over and suffocated two cats. :(

Mine does.. or did. Her name was Nala, my fluffy blonde cat. She loved to eat my rubberbands. And it unfortunately ended up killing her. We didn’t know at first, but She kept on puking, so we took her to the vet, and lo behold, she had 22 rubberbands stuck in her stomach. So she got a $2000 surgery done on her. Not even 6 months later, only a month after fully recovering, she began puking again. So we took her her to the vet again. She had eaten 2 more rubber bands and thus wasn’t able to ingest anything. We had to put her down this time. The surgery would’ve costed too much, and there was a chance her stomach could rip open from doing the surgery again. That last night with her was hard. She had even hidden herself away the following morning, as though knowing what was to come the next morning. My tears probably gave it away. Point is, never let your cat get their sticky paws on your rubberbands.
The Cat Still Managed To Climb The Tree
It's actually made like that. The tracks have "arms" attached to them that then clip into a "donut" that you wrap around and bolt into the tree. I've had it for a few years, I can't remember where I got it.

Our cats love to hide sleep inside the tree collar under our faux Christmas tree. We don’t use anything that breaks like glass ornaments. We use wide ribbons and secure the ornaments to the tree so that there’s no choking hazard. It’s really no different than childproofing your home. FCE116A2-3...4-jpeg.jpg

Is this a real tree or a fake one? This is like my dream tree and if it's faux, I'd LOVE to know where you got it. Thanks!
Aww thank you <3 I bought the fabric (with a print of a real tree) at IKEA (about two years ago, but they still sold it last year here in Austria), sewed it to secure the wood slats, used safety pins (backside) to secure real ornaments and added real fairy lights.
Load More Replies...Wow, that´s pretty amazing. Did you try to hang few lights on the tree too? I think that would look nice too. I will definitly try this, thank you for sharing :)
Our Cat Proof Christmas Tree! We Decided To Buy A Smaller One And Put It On Top Of The Kitchen Fridge
Ugh, i wish i could zoom to see what they are watching on that laptop!
that would SO not work for us: our cats are on the fridge and cabinets all the time!
My old cat used to sleep on top of the fridge.....you may want to rethink that one. :)
My aunt's cat was always on top of the fridge. Warm high and hidden. He lived up there.
No Ornaments Til Christmas Eve, Unless You Count 5 Lil Kittens In The Tree! 😮 Lol
We had 8 mos old kittens one year at Christmas. Bottom 6 inches of tree didn't have ornaments. Finally had to tie the top of tree to both ends of the window curtain rod. We gave up and let them climb. Was an artificial tree so no water was spilled. Couldn't have real trees as allergic to smell.
Cat Proof, Dog Proof, Toddler Proof. Because I Have All 3.
Our cats would jump that and sleep under the tree (they are lazy, but like the shine I think)
you can let them all in on Christmas, then go out and have some eggnog
Works For Me 😂
Thought the same thing! Specially worried about the globe O__O
Load More Replies...Did not work for us, with a puppy and a kitten. We didn't even get too the point of adding lights and ornaments...they managed to dismantle the tree (it was artificial). I did enjoy watching them tho.
funny, i'm worried about water stains on the cabinet! haha... i hope its a fake
If you look at the foot of the tree with the wedge shaped leg, you will see there is a pretty narrow tube or you can zoom in on your monitor and you will see that your HOPE came true because that tree is definitely fake! Merry Ha-Ha
Load More Replies...My cats don't really care about the tree, guess I'm lucky :P Did find an ornament or 2 whacked out of the tree last year. And this year one cat was very interested in the new plastic snowflakes for about 5 min :P I even got bird and butterfly ornaments and they don't even look at them.
Same here. He likes to lay under it tho. With the previous cat I tied the tree to a bookshelf after the third time of putting it back up.
Load More Replies...My cats didn't care for the christmas tree. I found one of my cats 1 time on the branch, he was scolded and it never happened again for 17 years. The only thing we could not put out was "lameta" - thin metail foil cut into long shreds, popular in Poland instead of chains. The cats considered it as grass-type of food, which could have ended in tragedy as it could cut their insides. But we knew better, never put it up while kitties were living. So all in all I consider myself lucky - my pets weren't asshats and I could have a wonderful huge christmas tree :)
yes they are... parents jus ruined theirs christmas... they want to eat ornaments and push the tree like every year... but still, they are really cute <3 love pets
Load More Replies...I think they just want to know what's going on, it's not every day these poor baby's see lights of all color and a tree right in the middle of their house so please cut them some slack ok be nice an loving them PS stop with the name calling.
The animals are not a-holes; thinking they shouldn't want to play with shiny, exciting things that only show up once a year is a-hole thinking...
There are no "a*****e" cats and dogs and xmas trees are silly. Don't have one -enjoy your pet instead.
