What would Christmas be without the beloved and highly ornate Evergreen tree? Without it, where would Santa leave his presents? Keeping your Christmas decorations safe and sound until the gifts come is an easy task if you live in a pet-less household, but if you're an owner to an evil cat named Mr. Mittens or a funny dog named Scruffy, it might become a mission impossible.
From your point of view, the Christmas tree is almost sacred - you've spent at least a couple of hours searching for the perfect ornaments, then a couple more decorating it and a couple more admiring the final result. I hung glow in the dark planets from my ceiling. Saturn was Ember’s favorite, because she could reach it from the edge of the loft bed. Eventually I had to move Saturn because I was afraid she would chew through the string.

Very pretty, but if the ornaments moved it the slightest, my 12 Tonkinese, who can jump 3-4 feet in the air, would all be jumping like popcorn and it sadly would not last. And the string/wires worry me, not safe round my bunch.

My tree is just lights directly attached to the wall. Takes up zero space and the kitty doesn't try to climb it like he would this on that looks like a comfy carpet on the wall.

Mine does.. or did. Her name was Nala, my fluffy blonde cat. She loved to eat my rubberbands. And it unfortunately ended up killing her. We didn’t know at first, but She kept on puking, so we took her to the vet, and lo behold, she had 22 rubberbands stuck in her stomach. So she got a $2000 surgery done on her. Not even 6 months later, only a month after fully recovering, she began puking again. So we took her her to the vet again. She had eaten 2 more rubber bands and thus wasn’t able to ingest anything. We had to put her down this time. The surgery would’ve costed too much, and there was a chance her stomach could rip open from doing the surgery again. That last night with her was hard. She had even hidden herself away the following morning, as though knowing what was to come the next morning. My tears probably gave it away. Point is, never let your cat get their sticky paws on your rubberbands.

It's actually made like that. The tracks have "arms" attached to them that then clip into a "donut" that you wrap around and bolt into the tree. I've had it for a few years, I can't remember where I got it.

Our cats love to hide sleep inside the tree collar under our faux Christmas tree. We don’t use anything that breaks like glass ornaments. We use wide ribbons and secure the ornaments to the tree so that there’s no choking hazard. It’s really no different than childproofing your home. FCE116A2-3...4-jpeg.jpg

Aww thank you <3 I bought the fabric (with a print of a real tree) at IKEA (about two years ago, but they still sold it last year here in Austria), sewed it to secure the wood slats, used safety pins (backside) to secure real ornaments and added real fairy lights.

We had 8 mos old kittens one year at Christmas. Bottom 6 inches of tree didn't have ornaments. Finally had to tie the top of tree to both ends of the window curtain rod. We gave up and let them climb. Was an artificial tree so no water was spilled. Couldn't have real trees as allergic to smell.

Did not work for us, with a puppy and a kitten. We didn't even get too the point of adding lights and ornaments...they managed to dismantle the tree (it was artificial). I did enjoy watching them tho.

If you look at the foot of the tree with the wedge shaped leg, you will see there is a pretty narrow tube or you can zoom in on your monitor and you will see that your HOPE came true because that tree is definitely fake! Merry Ha-Ha

My cats don't really care about the tree, guess I'm lucky :P Did find an ornament or 2 whacked out of the tree last year. And this year one cat was very interested in the new plastic snowflakes for about 5 min :P I even got bird and butterfly ornaments and they don't even look at them.

My cats didn't care for the christmas tree. I found one of my cats 1 time on the branch, he was scolded and it never happened again for 17 years. The only thing we could not put out was "lameta" - thin metail foil cut into long shreds, popular in Poland instead of chains. The cats considered it as grass-type of food, which could have ended in tragedy as it could cut their insides. But we knew better, never put it up while kitties were living. So all in all I consider myself lucky - my pets weren't asshats and I could have a wonderful huge christmas tree :)
