30 Times Premature Celebrators Ended Up Embarrassing Themselves In Public (New Pics)
InterviewPlease, for the love of God, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Please, please, PLEASE! …oh, well, see, now you’ve done it—you counted ‘em. We hope you’re proud.
You may or may not believe in things like Fate and Karma, but you can’t deny that the Universe has a sly sense of humor. It likes irony. And it loves bringing arrogant people down a peg or two, as well as proving folks wrong just for the heck of it. Usually, in an overly-dramatic fashion.
The r/Prematurecelebration online community documents epic examples of people celebrating things prematurely, only to fail or be wrong. In a very public manner, no less. Scroll down for the most embarrassing cases and remember to upvote the posts that you enjoyed, dear Pandas. Bored Panda also got in touch with the friendly moderator team running the whole online community. They were kind enough to answer our questions.

Nope. I am a nurse and my brother is a respiratory therapist and we encountered this same scenario every day at work. We always reminded them why they were there in the first place and it could have been prevented any time they would try to get sympathy or play the poor me card.

exactly, people misunderstand though. the vaccine does not completely stop you from getting it, but in 99.9% of cases it WILL lessen the effects and thus make it far, far less lethal.

...and not too long after that, he called Rosa Parks a plant... The man needs professional help.
He could have used better words to express himself instead of saying that she was a "plant." But he could have been referring to Claudette Colvin and how she was originally the first to take a stand but it was decided that she was not a good representative for the movement. Rosa Parks was in fact selected because she was an outstanding citizen and it was planned for her to do that on the bus that day

We were curious as to what has changed since our last article about the online community.
"We have been working towards being more receptive and open-minded about the definition of premature celebration, as to be less bogged down by obvious examples of the genre," they told us.
The Newspapers Were Hoping
This reminds me of when I was in grade school and we saw our first computer. Our principal told us that we could learn it if we wanted to, but they aren't very useful, and he could never see how a regular person would be using one in their daily life. Edited to add: This was in 1979 in a small, rural farming and mining town.

A "Victorious" Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain Returns From Germany And Declares "Peace For Our Time" After Hitler Agrees Not To Invade Any More Territories In Europe, 1938
Just remember this when anyone wants to negotiate with Putin or other dictators.
And this is why I think any "dialogue with Putin" over Ukraine is a waste of time.
“You had a choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor. and you will have war.” —Winston Churchill to Neville Chamberlain.
And history has shown that it gave the UK 'more time' to rearm and build up a war chest. If we had gone to war in '38, we would have lost. Full stop. End it.
And we'd have lost alone. The rest of the Empire made it pretty clear they wouldn't go to war in Europe over this issue. Chamberlain was probably remembering 1914 when it took the whole summer to get the Empire on side. At the same ce ctime a bitter debate occurred in parliament whether to honour the promise to protect Belgium by mobilising. The 'war' side won out and the result was a rapid, but poorly managed mobilisation of the then small expeditionary force. When that force came in to contact with the Germans in some early battles it was a close run thing- the complete collapse of the British army was not out of the question. Yes, it all worked out in the end, but Chamberlain knew if he bodged this now, he might not be so lucky as the country was in 1914 and the result this time could have been genuinely devastating for Britain.
Load More Replies...Unlike many of the others, this one is a little unfair. The question of whether appeasement was the wrong course of action is still debatable. The situation was much more complex than later historians (led by Churchill himself) led people to believe. Put aside the merits of his actions and there's also a political angle to consider- Chamberlain needed to demonstrate to a country and a continent on the brink of catastrophe the supposed confidence he had in his settlement. Put simply- even if he didn't believe his deal would secure a lasting peace, he still NEEDED to tell everyone that.
Unlike others on this post who simply got it wrong through sheer stupidity, Chamberlain was NOT the idiot history has tried to make him out to be. He was a very shrewd politician.

Greatest Tweet Of All Time
Just to clarify the sheer extent of the unethical lying from the Chinese government. This post is dated 14th Jan 2020. In early 2020 the Chinese government was already well aware of the method of transmission and the dangers of the virus. Dr. Li Wenliang was one of the doctors trying to sort out the "Mysterious epidemics" that was ravaging Wuhan since November 2019. In December, he linked the illness to a variant of the SARS flu, and correctly identified it as a coronavirus with potential airborne human-to-human spread. The Chinese government took action and admonished him, threatening him with prosecution and forcing him to retract his statements. Li Wenliang kept on working on the epidemic, until on 8th January he contracted the disease. On 12th Jan -before this tweet- he was hospitalized, and at that point all the data available pointed to H2H contagion being not only possible but extremely easy and fast. Dr. Li died a few weeks later.
Chinese government admitted the virus transmission methods and dangers only in April, after it had been already confirmed by independent western research.
Load More Replies...What is even more is they knew this was a lie when they said it. China had known for months is had human to human tranmission from when the first cases came, and WHO knew in December already. I get the CCP lying but the WHO lied, and is responsible for a lot of deaths. And people wonder why medical orgs have lost the public trust
WHO at the time had few options other than base their conclusions on the only available research, that was provided by Chinese government. There was a joint US-Chinese lab -in Wuhan, even!- specialized in respiratory diseases and pandemic monitoring that could have provided better and more reliable in-field research, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development under the PREDICT initiative. Too bad its funding was shut down by the Trump administration in September 2019, among other critical programs (like AIDS containment, family planning, famine and disease prevention etc)
Load More Replies...This shouldn’t be on this list. It was a status report, not a victory declaration.
It also clearly says “preliminary” investigations…
Load More Replies...And yet the WHO declared it a pandemic some weeks later. The proptocol for pandemics was activated and in the UK (and elsewhere) medical schools closed (as did nursing schools) and 'nearly qualified' (no, not newly) were put to work on the wards as 'acting doctors, or 'acting nurses.
The UK did very little to stop transmission in early days though. There was a plane load of citizens from Wuhan who were placed in quarantine, but after that we just gave up at the border. I came back from living in Japan on 20th March 2020, via Singapore. Singapore had everyone getting temperature checked, hand sanitiser everywhere etc. If your temp was high you were taken off to quarantine. At Heathrow there were no masks, no checks, just a guy with leaflets saying if you have a cough, please stay home. Pathetic. We are an island and could have done much better.

Possibly The Biggest Premature Celebration Of All Time?
Oh how they were wrong. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand STARTED the First World War.
It actually started the first world war which caused the Treaty of Versailles to be written which contributed to the start of World War Two. So .... Um...... Jazz hands! * Awkwardly looking around at the writers of this story.* I'll leave.
The Archiduke is dead and Chamberlain got an agreement with Hitler. Europe is safe for the whole 20th Century.
This author was an idiot. And honestly, even if Franz Ferdinand hadn't been killed, there would have been a war eventually. His assassination was just the immediate powderkeg, but the actual causes were a lot bigger and deeper than that. WWI was basically inevitable.

She was elected on a technicality, lacking an actual majority since there were too many absentees in the election vote. Her administration proposed a fiscal budget, who was rejected and instead the opposition's budget was voted, once again due to absentees on the government party's side. The winning coalition split, and she resigned to avoid being in charge of a government without political support and bound to a budget written by the extreme right wing opposition. She was reelected a few days after by a narrow margin, only two votes. Her tenure was quite uneventful, with just some minor controversies sprinkled in. She was replaced last October, in favor of a right-wing coalition despite winning the popular vote by a 10% margin.
This post itself is premature. She was re-elected a couple days later. The first order of business after her first election was a budget. The one passed caused the green party part of her coalition to remove itself from the coalition. She resigned saying the coalition no longer had legitimacy since it no longer was the majority. This is a tradition in Swedish governance. A new coalition was formed and she was re-elected. She continued as Prime Minister until Oct of this year (full term) until a new national election resulted in a new coalition led by the Moderate Party.
Created all the way back in mid-June of 2013, the ‘Premature Celebration’ sub has since grown to house nearly 710k members. The last time that Bored Panda wrote about the subreddit, it had 525k members.

Why Worry, We're On An Unsinkable Ship
We don't need the appropriate number of life boats because they'll never ever be needed! We'll just put up a few for show
Honestly, (all things being exactly the same other than the number of lifeboats) more lifeboats probably wouldn't have made that much of a difference. The real issue was time. They didn't even manage to successfully launch all the lifeboats they had aboard. In the final plunge, collapsible B ended up being washed away and left overturned in the water. About 20-30 people were able to climb on top of the overturned lifeboat, but several of them died during the night Jack-style, holding onto the edge.

At 2.20 AM The Titanic was already on the bottom, and the paper in the morning titled that it was "under tow" "in bad shape" with a "crumpled bow", and "all passenger taken off safely bt 3.30 o'clock"
This is one thing the Titanic film got really quite wrong. Smith was fully aware of the ship's damage and indeed knew what damage she could sustain and where. Think about it- ships don't go sailing around with the chief designer of the company that built it on board "just in case". Put together the evidence from the inquiries and Smith almost certainly knew the ship was going to sink BEFORE Andrews made his own inspection of the ship. The film's 'conference' scene almost certainly didn't happen, or didn't happen like it was depicted. None of the surviving officers mention it (or Andrews) in their memoirs either.
Load More Replies...There was a lot of conflicting information going about from other ships in the Atlantic, from passengers on Carpathia, from the press eager to get the scoop, and even from amateur radio enthusiasts. There is still a debate around whether Franklin actually knew the ship had been lost when he made his comments. He later claimed he was only certain he knew when the captain of the Olympic (Titanic's sister ship and therefore the company's most definitive voice on the matter) messaged him that he was certain the reports the ship had sank with great loss of life were true. Ismay, the company's director was (notoriously) a survivor on the Carpathia, but was probably suffering a total mental break down (there's a record in another message of him being heavily medicated by Carpathia's surgeon). He only messaged the company to confirm, first hand, that the ship had sunk the following day. Personally, I think Franklin didn't know- why take the risk to claim otherwise??

Members of the sub have to abide by a few rules. One of the main ones is to keep the content focused on premature celebrations. That is the point of the entire community after all. So you’ve got to show some sort of evidence that the person in question has been celebrating before it was appropriate to do so.
What’s more, redditors ought to avoid reposting the “top 50 of all time or the current hot 25.” In other words, try to keep the content fresh! Do a bit of research on what’s already been posted, don’t just share random screenshots and photos randomly. And, of course, be a kind and decent person: “No namecalling, direct personal attacks, or bigotry.”

Redditor u/N8theGr8 noted that the entire point of the sub revolved the idea of people “ celebrating some kind of win or victory before you really should.”
They gave a couple of examples: “Like a guy who runs a race and then slows down right at the end to do a victory jump and throw his arms in the air, only to be passed by the 2nd-place guy who then wins the race. Or the 'Dewey Defeats Truman' newspaper held up by President Truman.”

A very common take on the subject, but no. Nokia phones were far from "Indestructible", outside of the meme. The famed brick-like 3310 (a brick both in sturdiness and performance) was on par with the handsets of the same generation from Motorola and Ericsson. Those phones were thick hard plastics, bulky electronics and modular designs. We think of Nokia as sturdy handsets because they stuck with their early 2000's lineup well into the end of the decade, while Apple and others were coming to the market with the early smartphones. At the time, very few people felt the need for a smartphone, so they stuck with their brick-phones despite limited performances, boasting the only real advantages they had over the new trend, economy and sturdiness. Thus, the meme was born.

The Cleveland Guardians With A $66 Million Payroll Just Won The Division Over The White Sox With Their $197 Million Payroll. This Tweet At The Beginning Of The Season Didn't Age Well!
The picture is a still of the last shot of the Fresh Prince of Bel-air. Kind of appropriate to reflect that those with the money disappeared and left the poor nephew of the family standing alone.

Crazy Kwarteng, the shortest termed Chancellor of the Exchequer, as he will forever be remembered. The idiot cost a lot of people a lot of money.
On the other hand his "champagne dinner" mates made a sh*t load...

It's incomprehensible to me that republicans still exist after their policies nearly destroyed this country, but then look at who supports them. However, it's refreshing to find out that we aren't the only country with idiots.

They certainly handled it better than the UK. Our prime minister missed 5 meetings to discuss and then took the 'wait and see' approach and waited far too long to go into lockdown by which time it was too late. It then came to light nearly two years later that while the country was in lockdown and not allowed to visit dying relatives or go to funerals, our government were having parties and laughing at us. They have still yet to make any sort of apology about this. Now the NHS is on strike because they are being denied a living wage and are buckling under the pressure and the government are gaslighting them and telling the public its the nurses that are messing up the NHS. I recommend watching Jonathon Pie's video about the current strikes in the UK. Hits the nail on the head.
I Think This Belongs Here
