To find out more about the community behind the r/Prematurecelebration subreddit, Bored Panda reached out to one of its moderators, u/N8theGr8, who was happy to share some insights.
The mod told us that the subreddit was created by u/potato88, who’s now a suspended user, back in 2013. Some time ago, though, the subreddit had no moderators, so the admins gave it to the current mod team, u/N8theGr8 said.
But since the subreddit revolves around a “kind of niche topic,” it’s not as active as it could be. “But we have half a million subscribers and it stays relatively active,” they added. Right now, the subreddit has 525k members in total and their community is still growing.

When asked about the whole concept of premature celebration that the subreddit as all about, the moderator explained that it “just means celebrating some kind of win or victory before you really should.”
“Like a guy who runs a race and then slows down right at the end to do a victory jump and throw his arms in the air, only to be passed by the 2nd-place guy who then wins the race. Or 'Dewey Defeats Truman' newspaper held up by President Truman.”

I really wish there had been some explanation on the sports ones. Not all of us are in the USA and following US sports competitions.
I just saw rollerblading and Toronto Blue Jays. I don’t know where rollerblading is popular, but I would be surprised to learn that Toronto is in the USA🤷

I don't follow sports and I'm not in the US but most of these were self explanatory to me...
For the stadium inside that got canceled because of the roof, it's baseball and it gets cancelled easily because of weather. Even if it's super mild weather. So they were hyping up their stadium because of the roof it couldn't get cancelled for rain or snow. And then the roof got damaged which would be super dangerous for fans and players. Sorry my wording and punctuation are way off. im very tired
For the football ones, the main gist is that the fans had their ego hyped up, and got tattoos or celebrated wins early before the game actually ended. Like the patriots are known for their winning streak (That was the main team people had tattoos of too) and they ended up losing on of the major games.
Just like the World Cup leg tattoo. I don't follow World Cup, but I'm betting England did not win in 2018.
Sooo many people breaking the law and telling the world how "smart" they are. Sigh......
