This online community (which also calls itself the 'Gallery of Inexplicable Stupidity') unites over 6.4 million members, and they're constantly sharing the dumbest statements and actions they've witnessed both online and in real life.

Also, carrying and quoting the atheism book that they don't really understand because it's all written in metaphors and the atheism guidelines discourages thinking and learning, but they will explain the atheism texts to you nonetheless because the atheism guide person explained it to them in the most profitable way.

I don't live in the middle of no where in Australia. Not in a major city, yes, but not out in Woop Woop. I know quite a few kids who do have gun licenses and go shooting on a regular basis. Even my school will issue student ids early for primary kids who need them to get their licenses. But I'm pretty sure that the last mass shooting was in 1996? My parents didn't even know each other back then. Yes, we are not perfect. Far from it. There is still some gun violence. But most of it's gang related, so I'm pretty sure that we are doing something right?

No point in arguing with someone who can't even be bothered to read the part of the 2nd amendment of the constitution that states ' A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.' As far as I can see, the USA, with the World's largest militia - apart from China - the right to bear arms to be extended to private citizens should be bloody well and truly consigned to the dustbin of history !!!

In other words, no one is born bored. It arises due to certain conditions," Manhattan-based psychotherapist, speaker, and author Sean Grover told Bored Panda.

Yes! Circulating the money keeps the whole economy alive and in the long run inflation down. A few people just hoarding it means the whole system runs out of fuel if there isn't more fuel introduced.

This is such an ignorant comment. It has been proven over and over that giving money to poor people means it will be put back into the economy very quickly. Giving money to rich people means it will be stored, quite possibly in an off-shore tax haven.

People keep saying US "is becoming 3rd world". I'm from Cambodia. It's run by a known, literal mass murdering dictator who's been in office even before he was ousted in 1993; he walked right back into his office. Hun Sen was "former" Khmer Rouge. Buddhism is enshrined into the constitution. Abortion is Very Much Bad™. Yet, folks can have legal, safe abortions before 12 weeks. After 12 weeks abortions will be performed if it was rape, continuing with the pregnancy will irrevocably harm or kill the carrier & if the fetus will be born severely handicapped. US is NOT 3rd world. It's worse. Also, most Cons/Repubs wouldn't recognize a real Communist if they invited the entire political party to the neighborhood barbecue fundraiser in honor of the local food bank.🙄😒

How many teens I knew in school l. ‘Nature and Nurture,’ the evidence of that yes, our core nature is present at birth and nurture determines the possibilities, ( eg. supportive, stable home environment, counselling. I think it's Arthur C Clarke who is quoted as saying "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Swap out the word "technology" for "science" and that's where we are today. We've grown used to things just working and not affecting us, so people think it doesn't matter and take it for granted without understanding anything that goes into it.

TKAM has been moving on and off the banned books lists for decades. My kids read it (2016, 2017) and were better off for doing so. They asked me poignant questions that we discussed frankly. Intentionally thought-provoking. I loved it and so did my kids.

At a major medical center/med school in New York City, it was announced that the phrase "pregnant women" would no longer be accepted. There are only two allowed terms: pregnant persons, or birthers. This because in a couple of cases, transgender people in possession of a uterus (one each, I'd suppose) were able to carry pregnancies to term. Oh, and the only acceptable plural for person is persons, not people. Power point presentations have to be submitted 1-2 weeks in advance to be "vetted for offensive content" - no such thing as academic integrity any more.

"Homosexual" behaviour is far more widespread than people (largely detached from and ignorant of the natural world) know. Which makes claims of such activity as "unnatural" rather pitiful if not hilarious.

It's very very likely. Because it's well known that lions are fully capable to understand not just the concept of gender but also to identify such genders in humans. "Simba, take a look: that human has short hair therefore he's a male. Funny species those humans; the male has short hair while it's pretty logical that it's the female who's got short hair among us lions. Well, I don't judge them, live and let live. I say!".

What??? It's been well documented for decades that many, many species of animals show homosexual behaviours, including lions. I bought a book about in the '90s. The only difference between humans and animals, as stated in my book, seemed to be that other animals would switch between the two and they didn't tend to only have homosexual sex.

Unfortunately true. Remember the chain gangs? One can only hope that this modern version at least involves some degree of choice by the convict and some recompense, but it's a very slippery slope.

Depends on the states laws. Recent law passed out here was to change state constitution to make it a choice. Granted that choice was "go do it, or sit in a cell for most of that time period" but it's technically a choice.

The convicts are 'paid' but aren't entitled to minimum wage. They get 12cents per hour to 40cents per hour. The prison makes an enormous profit on their labour, and charges the state for their care. States turn around and lease prisoners or buy products of prison industry for lower costs. This is slavery. This is why the US has the highest rate of incarceration in the world, and no interest in rehabilitating and preventing recidivisim. Enslaving poor people is profitable.

Slavery has been outlawed....with the exception of prisoners. Because that's what prison is, when you f*ck up so severely that you're no longer permitted to make your own choices. Where to sleep, whom to share your space with, when and what to eat, when you get to go outside, when you get to have the lights on and yes, when you have to work. It's a punishment, a debt to society. None of that means to say that the prison industrial complex isn't severely f*cked up in the US, the number of drug related and non-violent offenders is staggering, and stupid. But that doesn't mean i'm going to shed a tear for the child k.illers, r*pests, serial k*llers and career criminals who are being forced to do something positive.

It’s mostly the non-violent offenders who have committed the same crimes as their not-imprisoned, white peers who are used for this work. Think of the security concerns if a child murderer or serial killer were sent for farm labor.

I called this long ago. I predict that eventually, the injustice system will start offering young inner city kids (read: black) who were convicted of minor crimes their choice of prison or going out to Nebraska to "work on a farm and learn a trade." The slave masters will always find their slaves.

As someone who works in the prison system in the US, I have to say, its far from slavery. They have a roof over their head, 3+ meals a day, mandatory breaks, and they are paid depending on job and skill level. Also, theyre aloud to grieve anything they dont find fair, and more often than not, they get their way. Its also voluntary. you dont get put on "work crews" just becasue. You have to apply to be put on a list, and even then, you may not get the job. Its repaying a debt to society. Its the LEAST they can do.

I have spent a total of six days of my 36 years on earth in the county jail. Im very against the prison industrial complex, and this very much looks and feels like slavery. That being said, if I had been stuck there for a long time, I would have been trying to get on this crew or any other work crew. Just sitting in your cell bored is awful. There is a reason some people are arguing that solitary confinement is cruel and unusual punishment. This is a tough issue.

I don't know who downvoted you for your perspective but it's a good insight that being in a cell bored is a different kind of terrible than working. Humans aren't meant to be idle so individuals may prefer the work to sitting bored. Just because we all hate the US for-profit prison system is no reason to downvote someone with thoughts on how prisoners may feel dealing with the system that we currently have, even though we can all agree it's a f'd up system

To illustrate this point, the psychotherapist provided a real-life example. "I work in therapy with a young man who was working from home during the pandemic. He became incredibly bored with his daily life. Through exploring his feelings in therapy, he decided to start playing the piano again."

"He began practicing, and later joined a jazz quartet."

"Now it is one of the most rewarding things in his life. He plays in clubs throughout Manhattan and invites his friends."

I'm sorry I have to admit when my friends were discussing a school shooting, I asked which one. Now when I hear shooting I just ask was it USA. If yes then it's another day, outside I'm interested a little more. It's a bad thing to say, but you have shootings literally every week in schools and I cannot keep up. My country had one shooting, one bullet was shot from hunting rifle. In the last 32years. How? And we also have teenage prisoners, and vandals, and murders but nothing compared to USA. Most of our killings are drinking gone wild and one dies. It's not perfect but guns are not allowed and police cannot shoot the criminal in the back of the body, cannot do fatal shootings. Why do you allow this? Also how come you allow insurance companies decide who gets to live, if you expect doctors to act under oath they gave. You literally make the doctors profession invalid when giving treatment decision to nonmedical persons in stuffy office looking to hit commission

It's not the amendment that's the problem really. It's the NRA (gun lobby group) that pays all the politicians to vote against any common sense gun regulation. The vast majority of Americans support gun regulation reform. We need campaign finance reform and term limits.

In Texas, we’ve been asked to conserve electricity as to not overwhelm the energy grid. Obviously we shouldn’t *have to* but it’s either conserve energy or risk massive blackouts that last for days, like we just went through last year during that deadly winter storm that killed hundreds of people. I was honestly shocked to read on multiple forums, people that just refuse to. They set their ac’s as low as they want bc we’re in a heat wave, yet none realize we’d be SO screwed if our power went out in the middle of this heat wave. This individualism mentality is going to kill us all.

And Adam White, Socialism is a central part of the welfare state that is in practice in many western countries, like Germany. It's not Socialism that's bad, but the autocratic component of the systems.

No, it's just being acknowledged that kids are depressed these days. And mental health is coming to the forefront. Before, we'd lock them away or punish them for their problems. Also, there are more people and social media now, so of course the statistics are going to be higher.

Y'all really need to stop calling anyone you don't like/disagree with a Nazi. It really undermines what Nazis actually were and what they did, like kill and torture people. These days someone will get called a Nazi for being a conservative. It's ridiculous.

Valid argument, especially concernig the term "grammar nazi" for me. Then again, in this particular instance, they might have actually meant people who are using Nsdap-tactics for crowd-approval and others who openly say and do racist things, like calling immigrants "hordes" and pillaging rapists, or openly saying that white people are superior. You know, things one would not be unreasonable to call them nazis for. Might not be completely correct. And tha has nothing to do with simple disagreement. Simply.being a d**k doesn't make anyone a nazi. It is a trend, though, that covert (and not-so-covert) ostrication of certain groups based on their heritage are used as the reason for all bad things. Not US-secifoc, btw.

You had a minute and a half of commercial to book it. You had to stand as close to your destination as possible while still being able to see the tv, and then sprint. The absolute joy of getting back in time is a feeling I will never be able to replicate.

The way our house was set up, you could come running down the hall and hurdle the couch to get to your spot. My dad and I both broke toes...multiple times because we hit a foot on the way over. Teachers have the most important job in society, ensuring that our children don't grow up to be ignorant, entitled useless little brats, which often means correcting the failures and picking up a whole lot of slack from $hitty parents. They spend 6 years (or more) getting their masters, they work 12 hour days, minimum, spend their own meager salaries providing classroom materials for lessons and many take on extra duties (like coaching) or second jobs just to be able to continue paying for your child to have a better education. But it's rare to see anyone advocating that teachers be paid more, while you can't look escape the constant roar of everyone demanding better wages for retail and fast food workers. I'm not sure, but it seems like those two things are somehow related.

Ahh but if the children are educated and not kept ignorant they might see through all the bs of the government claims of "We're the most free, most bestest nation in the world and nothing needs to change." So the Actual job the government wants public schools to do is create obedient little robots that don't question anything. How else do you explain things like "standardized tests" "teach only the curicculum exactly as it is" "here is your 6 hours of homework I'm required to add onto your 8 hour school day" etc. Note, none of that is on teachers but it is what many are required to do to keep their jobs.

Afterward, each group was directed to come up with good excuses for tardiness. The bored group bested their counterparts on both the number and creativity of ideas, as evaluated by objective outside judges.

Although both languages are distinctly different, they do share some similarities. I had a collegue once who was fluent in German, English, Italian, French and Spanish (and quite fond of switching between them), who, as the need arose, managed to get herself a grip of basic Portuguese in a few hours. She said that while it was totally different when it came to pronounciation and word endings, a spanish native speaker could understand it just fine (not necessarily the other way round, though).

Sadly, even in countries where is it customary to learn a second language starting at 8 years old (English for us), when you speak it in public, (older) natives get often annoyed. The amount of times I heard "Slovak in Slovakia!" whilst chatting to a friend from abroad or on the phone with one is ridiculous. Thankfully, that mindset is not present in the post-Velvet Divorce (1993) generations. At least not too much.

Another study concluded that boredom motivates people to seek out novelty. Our minds simply wander when we're bored, and we think of new things to try.

The goal, according to Grover, is to dig into the boredom and ask ourselves what is the message it's sending us. "Are you creatively stagnant? Are you lonely? Does your body need exercise? Are you engaged in enough stimulating activities? Are you trying new things?" the psychotherapist said there can be many.

I know some people will say that it’s better to give up creature comforts in the short term to make life better for yourself in the long term, and there is some truth to that. Don’t max out your credit cards or take vacations or buy cars you can’t afford—that’s common sense. But the idea that you have up something as simple as a Netflix subscription and a cup of coffee, and the occasional week off to feel human again, until your house is paid off and your retirement fund is overflowing is A) absurd, because Netflix is pretty damn cheap, and B) leads to a m i s e r a b l e 40 years to be capped off with a few comfortable years to spend on the porch wondering where your whole life went.

Perfectly true, however I would like to add: there is SOME value to the whole "cut the Starbucks and avocado toast" argument. While you certainly can't afford a house by cutting out these little luxuries, you CAN save enough for a vacation or some other bigger luxury. For example, say you get a $5 Starbucks drink 4 times a week: $20 a week times 52 weeks = $1040. With that money you could get on a bus or train and take a week-long budget vacation, or a luxurious 3-day-weekend. All paid for with your coffee money! Say you also spend $40 a month on take-out and $40 a month on subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify. $80 a month times 12 months = $960. $960 + $1040 = $2000. If you book your flight and hotel early and get good rates, you can fly somewhere for a real vacation. Cutting out little luxuries won't help with big purchases like a home, but it can allow you to have larger luxuries like vacations or skydiving lessons or whatever floats your boat.

My friend's sister has lived in the same flat for 20 years, paying the same rent and being the perfect tenant. The landlord is now kicking her out because he wants to charge triple the rent, which she can't afford as she retired recently. Her brother and best friend live on the same street but now she has to move. The landlord is a greedy a**e.

Or the landlord, after giving your sister a break for 20 years, can no longer afford to rent at the same price as their expenses are going up too (property taxes, utilities, etc) and they, too, are now 20 years older and may need more money. So why shouldn’t they try to get it if they can? Also, in 20 years time a property can need a lot of repair and that too can be very costly. Homeowners are living in the same world of inflation as renters.

The hopelessness is real. How do you 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' when you can't even afford the boots? You're working just to survive. Home ownership isn't even a dream, just having housing is almost out of reach. Poor quality, low nutrition, mass produced food becomes the only option because it's within budget. There really is no future anymore. When you get up everyday and just try to get through the day with no hope of it getting any better - that's the reality average young Americans are facing today. This is what used to be called 'poor'. Now, it's the American norm.

unfortunately we need to raise rent to cover costs that insurance won't when tenants cannot treat other's property with some respect. having to take a property off the market for 3 to 6 months because we have to repair it because as a landlord we had no legal rights to evict tenants who destroy property isn't cheap...and we're not all greedy. but do you want to rent a house with missing floorboards, walls, and have walls, floors, carpeting smeared in blood and fecal matter, or be a health hazard because they ran a humidifier 24/7 creating mold or had a meth lab in the kitchen? just some of the problems we greedy, selfish landords have had to deal with.

It's a funny prank, but I don't think you can blame the station. This segment is probably mostly unidentifiable locations and they take the sender's word for it. It's fluff, not actual news that ought to be rigorously fact-checked.

I can't get my head around America, we had a school shooting in the UK, with 16 children dead that's what it took to completely change our laws forever. In America 12 children die every day to gun violence. School shootings this year alone are at 95 incidences, with 40 deaths and 76 injuries.

What really messes with my head is that America would sooner educate primary school children on how to run/duck/hide from a shooter through routine drills, than actually fix the problem. Do any of them realise how f****d up this looks to the rest of the planet?

What gets me about this on top of how messed up it is is that the people shooting up schools are the students, the ones who've been through all the drills so they know exactly what kind of response the kids have been taught. There's so much wrong with trying to teach kids how to avoid being shot, expecting teachers to suddenly become defense experts and put their life on the line for kids they aren't even paid enough to teach let alone die for. These drills are completely pointless and not dealing at all with the situation. But, you know, folk act sad and send thoughts and prayers so that fixes everything....

There was one school shooting. British people, including gun owners, were *horrified*. The gun laws were tightened up because that is what people wanted, and gun owners that had now outlawed guns gave them up in gun amnesties because they thought five year old children being shot in the face was worse than not having a gun (any way, there are still options for hobbies, sports, farmers, hunting etc, it's just tightly regulated)

This! When we, Americans, say stupid s**t like, "I use it for hunting/sporting." The firearms that are being used are made to do one thing, kill people. This BS about sport shooting, makes me want to vomit. No one needs an AR15, or its like. Not a civilian, not even the police. Now this is when someone will say, what about the military? Well, according to gun nuts, the AR15 is not a military style weapon (assault riffle). It just looks and operates like one.

I was 14 the last time the UK had a school shooting (1996) but I was 40 the last time the US had one, I think that there's something amiss if the country with the highest gun ownership per capita (that's how many in every 100 for the people who do not understand Latin or call Mathematics, which is a plural word, Math i.e. a singular word) has so many who think that it's OK to take said guns to their local schools and Kill the children who go there to learn. How can the second biggest global economy have such a fascination with such a deadly weapon. Yes, I have handled and shot a gun but I wouldn't want to own one, the chances of someone trying to steal it would be too great. I live in the UK by the way and my late Uncle had a shotgun license so my brothers and I were taught how to use our Grandfather's shotgun when we were younger (before the school shooting) that gun always remained in it's gun locker when not in use and the rounds for it were in a safe in a completely different place

This left out the most infuriating part. The reason the woman assumed that the economist was a threat wasn't just because he was writing something she didn't understand. He has curly dark hair and olive skin, so she assumed that he was a Middle Eastern man writing something in a foreign script, which she decided was scary and dangerous.

I always add this advice when I see bear spray mentioned: If you’re in bear country keep your bear spray in easy reach - a spot that you can draw it from quickly with one hand, like at your waist pack or side pocket of your backpack. Test to make sure you can access it quickly. If you have to dig it out from your pack or a zippered/latched compartment there might not be enough time

Actually, just read that a salesman in a store that sold camping equipment sold quite a lot of stuff to a woman who was going camping with her family. He recommended that she buy bear spray as well, and she took his advice. She came back into the store from the parking lot to ask how long before they got to the campsite should she spray it on her kids.(!) The salesman quickly explained, and included the explanation every time he sold bear spray thereafter.

This is capitalism at work. Try to see just how few resources you can get away with and still make a profit. If they could get customers to cook their own burgers and still pay a profitable price, they'd fire that one person.

A train is a vehicle with two or more "carriages" attached to a locomotive (or powered vehicle if on the road) in this instance there are at least 4 vehicles per train. You get road trains in Australia where single lorry (truck) tractor units haul several trailers of goods over long distances and require less people to operate them (usually 2 or 3) which have been very successful. These are more like rail free trams though, I'd guess each part of the unit is powered, either by electric motors or small IC engines.

Not strictly US. It's a holdover from when women were chattels. Also most of Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Only started to go away with the suffrage movement. I'm sure that someone will be happy to correct me if I'm wrong.

You could probably get an office cleaning business going for $999, assuming you already have a personal vehicle that you could use. (Sanitaire commercial vacuum $128.87, good quality cotton string mop and wringer bucket $112.55, big fuzzy dust mop $51.99, angle broom $16.63, push broom $43.61, janitor-quality rolly trash can $111.51, the thing that hangs on the trash can that you put your supplies in $38.47, and that still leaves $503 for consumables, PPE and advertising).

Don't even need that. If you do domestic cleaning, it is perfectly acceptable to use the client's cleaning materials and appliances. About the only thing you really need to pay for is insurance. Accounts should be simple enough that you can do them yourself.

A new business that could eventually turn at least a minimum wage profit for you would cost more than $1,000. And what's the time frame for the $100 of groceries? A day? A week? Also, I've never spent $100 on dinner and drinks. Even $50 is too much. I also can't afford the tools and supplies to learn the skills that would be fun or useful to me and could definitely not learn them in two hours. What universe is this guy living in?

Looks like we need regular people to handle this...since they are the ones actually stopping gunmen lately. All the police know how to shoot are unarmed black people.

They don't. There was a coordinated smear campaign against them by the farming industry when they were getting close to convincing the government to pass anti-factory farming laws. And now people believe it. I'm not saying PETA is perfect, but it's not abusing animals.

When PeTA started up, they were a movement that could be respected. They were actually trying to better the treatment we put animals through. They, unfortunately, have devolved to little more than a borderline domestic terrorisit organisation...they think that showing grade school kids films that would give adults nightmares is "educational." Stupid part is that every single instance they show has been proven to be up to 3 decades old. Add in the fact that up to 85% of all animals "rescued" are put down so they don't have to spend money to care for them...

Why do people let this guy talk? He should have a handler, or a seeing-eye dog, but for talking , that barks whenever he's going to say something dumb, which is all the time, so every time Elon speaks it would just be barking. Far more pleasant and intelligent.

I don't see the problem with this. I agree, a public platform like social media should be unbiased about what people can post. But Elon is an individual person, he obviously has his own opinion. These are separate things.

I think that whoever made that comparison misunderstood the point. Rich people don't wear brands with visible logo, that's true. Wearing a full-matching Adidas suit makes you look cheap, that's true. But the clothes rich people wear are extremely expensive, for they are tailored, fitting, and made with the best material.

They can dust the top of the fridge without needing a stepladder. If dressing up as giraffe for Halloween, they can be the front part of the disguise. Also very handy for reaching items when grocery shopping. Don't have to bend down as far to give them a BJ. Can get cats out of trees (except maybe not sequoias). Can trim hedges. I'm sure folks can think of many more uses for a tall boyfriend.

Are you a younger teenager who enjoys classical music, Tolstoy, and gardening? Great! I hope you have a great time! Are you 30+ and watch anime, play video games, and read young adult fiction? Excellent! Drop me some recommendations! Are you of any age ever and enjoy things you like? YOU RULE!

There's nothing wrong with both hobbies. It's when you make fun of someone's harmless hobby that makes you wrong. Really wrong.

So gross! But in Sweden there's actually lots of vabbing. 😆 Here it means to be home from work to take care of a sick child (while still being paid...). VAB stands for "Vård av barn" (Care of [sick] child).

I think out of all of these and most posts like this lately this made me pretty sad. Education is so important and essential and for this country to supposedly be the Greatest in the world makes it worse and makes me embarrassed to live here half of the time. Pay Teachers the wage's they deserve, fund school programs, give free lunches. Teachers are treated like c**p enough as it is not only by some students but mostly the parents. All they did was want to help educate these kid's and help them and they are not being paid enough and are treated horribly. So sad man
