So often miserable people want others to be miserable like them. The gun toting gun lobbyists of the US will never see that if the public don’t have guns they can’t shoot each other, themselves or family members, even by accident.

If, however, these pictures get to you now and make you want to click away, I'll argue to go even further, turn off your browser, put away your phone, and disconnect. After all, it's the weekend.

Sure, taking a walk outside without scrolling might seem dull. But you might be surprised where you can end up if you allow your mind to roam free. "Boredom is a symptom, not a condition. In other words, no one is born bored. It arises due to certain conditions," Manhattan-based psychotherapist, speaker, and author Sean Grover told Bored Panda.

"Underneath boredom is always frustration. When frustration is met with passivity, boredom is a natural outcome," Grover, who has 25 years of experience working with patients in group therapy in clinics, schools, and health centers, said.

The psychotherapist said that boredom is often close friends with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. And the best way to cure it is a counterintuitive one—surrender.

"Boredom can trigger enormous creativity when we tune in to the underlying frustration and come up with creative solutions," Grover highlighted. "Many inventions came out of tackling boredom and resolving it."

To illustrate this point, the psychotherapist provided a real-life example. "I work in therapy with a young man who was working from home during the pandemic. He became incredibly bored with his daily life. Through exploring his feelings in therapy, he decided to start playing the piano again."

"He began practicing, and later joined a jazz quartet."

"Now it is one of the most rewarding things in his life. He plays in clubs throughout Manhattan and invites his friends."

I'm sorry I have to admit when my friends were discussing a school shooting, I asked which one. Now when I hear shooting I just ask was it USA. If yes then it's another day, outside I'm interested a little more. It's a bad thing to say, but you have shootings literally every week in schools and I cannot keep up. My country had one shooting, one bullet was shot from hunting rifle. In the last 32years. How? And we also have teenage prisoners, and vandals, and murders but nothing compared to USA. Most of our killings are drinking gone wild and one dies. It's not perfect but guns are not allowed and police cannot shoot the criminal in the back of the body, cannot do fatal shootings. Why do you allow this? Also how come you allow insurance companies decide who gets to live, if you expect doctors to act under oath they gave. You literally make the doctors profession invalid when giving treatment decision to nonmedical persons in stuffy office looking to hit commission

As Grover pointed out, that whole thrilling journey started from unpacking boredom and coming up with a creative solution. Something that has become increasingly rare in our loud world.

With stimulation right at our fingertips, our tolerance for being bored has greatly diminished.

In fact, two-thirds of American adults routinely look at their phones even when they're not making a sound.

How Is This Possible

Vendruscolo Report

Another study concluded that boredom motivates people to seek out novelty. Our minds simply wander when we're bored, and we think of new things to try.

The goal, according to Grover, is to dig into the boredom and ask ourselves what is the message it's sending us. "Are you creatively stagnant? Are you lonely? Does your body need exercise? Are you engaged in enough stimulating activities? Are you trying new things?" the psychotherapist said there can be many.

I know some people will say that it’s better to give up creature comforts in the short term to make life better for yourself in the long term, and there is some truth to that. Don’t max out your credit cards or take vacations or buy cars you can’t afford—that’s common sense. But the idea that you have up something as simple as a Netflix subscription and a cup of coffee, and the occasional week off to feel human again, until your house is paid off and your retirement fund is overflowing is A) absurd, because Netflix is pretty damn cheap, and B) leads to a m i s e r a b l e 40 years to be capped off with a few comfortable years to spend on the porch wondering where your whole life went.

Perfectly true, however I would like to add: there is SOME value to the whole "cut the Starbucks and avocado toast" argument. While you certainly can't afford a house by cutting out these little luxuries, you CAN save enough for a vacation or some other bigger luxury. For example, say you get a $5 Starbucks drink 4 times a week: $20 a week times 52 weeks = $1040. With that money you could get on a bus or train and take a week-long budget vacation, or a luxurious 3-day-weekend. All paid for with your coffee money! Say you also spend $40 a month on take-out and $40 a month on subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify. $80 a month times 12 months = $960. $960 + $1040 = $2000. If you book your flight and hotel early and get good rates, you can fly somewhere for a real vacation. Cutting out little luxuries won't help with big purchases like a home, but it can allow you to have larger luxuries like vacations or skydiving lessons or whatever floats your boat.

My friend's sister has lived in the same flat for 20 years, paying the same rent and being the perfect tenant. The landlord is now kicking her out because he wants to charge triple the rent, which she can't afford as she retired recently. Her brother and best friend live on the same street but now she has to move. The landlord is a greedy a**e.

Or the landlord, after giving your sister a break for 20 years, can no longer afford to rent at the same price as their expenses are going up too (property taxes, utilities, etc) and they, too, are now 20 years older and may need more money. So why shouldn’t they try to get it if they can? Also, in 20 years time a property can need a lot of repair and that too can be very costly. Homeowners are living in the same world of inflation as renters.

The hopelessness is real. How do you 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' when you can't even afford the boots? You're working just to survive. Home ownership isn't even a dream, just having housing is almost out of reach. Poor quality, low nutrition, mass produced food becomes the only option because it's within budget. There really is no future anymore. When you get up everyday and just try to get through the day with no hope of it getting any better - that's the reality average young Americans are facing today. This is what used to be called 'poor'. Now, it's the American norm.

unfortunately we need to raise rent to cover costs that insurance won't when tenants cannot treat other's property with some respect. having to take a property off the market for 3 to 6 months because we have to repair it because as a landlord we had no legal rights to evict tenants who destroy property isn't cheap...and we're not all greedy. but do you want to rent a house with missing floorboards, walls, and have walls, floors, carpeting smeared in blood and fecal matter, or be a health hazard because they ran a humidifier 24/7 creating mold or had a meth lab in the kitchen? just some of the problems we greedy, selfish landords have had to deal with.

I think that whoever made that comparison misunderstood the point. Rich people don't wear brands with visible logo, that's true. Wearing a full-matching Adidas suit makes you look cheap, that's true. But the clothes rich people wear are extremely expensive, for they are tailored, fitting, and made with the best material.
