Photographer Captures People And Their Bedrooms To Show Their Different Ways Of Living (30 New Pics)
Interview With ArtistThe bedroom is probably the most personal and intimate space where one can be the truest version of oneself. It is a place to relax from the outside world, the spot where we start and end the day. Maybe that's why it's also so intriguing to have a glimpse of other people's bedrooms. It's like getting to know their real personalities in a way.
Being interested and passionate about "poetic resonance of ordinary subjects", photographer Barbara Peacock travels the USA to take intimate and anthropological pictures of average Americans in their bedrooms. These photographs are part of a project called "American Bedroom" that shows the many different living conditions and lifestyles that make up the American experience. After taking a look at these candid photographs, we invite you to check out Barbara's older photos that we previously shared here.

"My life has been dramatic! My three children are wonderful. My life couldn’t be better."
Overland Park, Kansas
It's wonderful that she enjoyed her life, I hope a lot of us can say the same when the time comes.
I think it's how she's been photographed. She may be, I don't know. But the photograph emphasizes things we associate with sadness & loneliness - her age & frailty, the curve of her body on the bed with its rucked covers & lining, the low light with, in the 2nd photo, a sunbeam that arcs away from her. But the room & bed are clean, she's dressed in the 1st photo, she's got slip-on shoes by the bed, and in the 2nd photo, she's got some sort of roller or hair-clip on. It looks to me like she's cared for, at the very least, and still cares about herself & her surroundings. The piano is open, too, maybe she still plays.
Load More Replies...Having a piano and not a TV next to you at 97 is certainly something to achieve.
I thought I was the only one with a PIANO in my bedroom. ..and NO TV!
Load More Replies...I believe it was Mark Twain who said, "do not complain about growing old. It is a privilege denied to many." You & he were right that we really should try to appreciate every day we're 6 feet above ground 🙂
Load More Replies...How come getting is such a hard thing? Why can't we just age gracefully and one day just not wake up because of old age? Almost like a lightbulb, suddenly not working anymore.
just a few impactful possessions. i think that's one of the keys to a long, happy life.
Absolutely beautiful I could only pray to have half of the love this woman felt
only a few impactful possessions and a lifetime of purpose. that's the key.
Barbara shared with Bored Panda that the idea of photographing people in their rooms was born in 2016: "I woke up early one morning and looked out my bedroom window to look at my garden. When I turned around I saw my husband wrapped up in blankets, bathed in beautiful golden light with his snore mask on. I had to chuckle at the dichotomy of beauty and humor. Then I thought about how I would complete the scene. It was then I realized that what we have on our side tables and around the room tells a distinct and personal story."
The photographer began to think about taking pictures of people in their bedrooms across the whole country. Most of Barbara's friends said that it was a very interesting concept. She started by photographing a few friends and some interesting people she met.

"My bed is my time machine. I’m a traveler in my dreams."

Weird to read a post online seeing people from all over then stumble one from the town you're from.
I had the same exact thought! Well, I grew up in Springvale.

"Everything is gone. My mom keeps saying: "keep the faith Faith.""
South Oroville, California
This isn't "third world". Her family was one of many that lost their homes to the horrible fires in California. This picture was taken at a makeshift refugee camp set up shortly after they lost their home. They were placed in a Red Cross shelter by that night.
Load More Replies...In the U.S we have more empty homes than homeless people. It's shameful.
This was a girl and her family seeking refuge from the 2018 Paradise Fire in which the entire town of Paradise burned to the ground. South Oroville is south of Paradise.
This is terrible...and not what America is portrayed as in the media (land of dreams)...keep the faith Faith...and when you think it's failing...keep the faith and it'll work out, we're all rooting for you!
DennyS America is most certainly not portrayed as the “land of dreams” by the media. Wake up. America is besmirched by the media most of all. Those who hold the American Dream as a goal are those who have fought hard to be and stay here legally and know what true adversity and lack of freedom get and individual. Nothing. This child’s plight is the result of a fires A horrific result, to be certain…heartbreaking. Yet clearly not about right v. left or capitalism v. socialism. No country gives more domestically or internationally in times of crisis to those in need than America to the world be it in private sector donations, material goods, volunteerism or outreach. Do not condemn this country simply because you have the right to speak freely about our nation. I pray for this child, her family and community, but remind all of us that strength comes from challenges not material comforts.Help is coming Faith..

Lol. Well first off it's Oroville not oreville like you spelled it with your big brain.
Load More Replies...They were displaced because of the wildfires. Fires don't just happen in the US.
Load More Replies...Not third world. Beautiful part of world. Ravaged by wild fires. Many not just lost their homes but their lives, family and friends. My hometown.
It was not that easy to find people who would be willing to open their bedroom doors and be completely honest and vulnerable. Yet, to Barbara's surprise, there are plenty who would.
"When I plan a trip to a place in the US, I make an announcement on Facebook and Instagram. Many folks will reach out and say they are willing, or they have a friend, relative or neighbor. From there the contacts grow. Also, I place ads on Craigslist and I print up cards with info about the project and my contact info. I leave these cards around during my travels. I also make it a point to go to smaller towns so I can visit local diners and small shops where everyone knows everyone."
Barbara photographs everyone who wants to be in the project. That’s her rule. "You just never know how it will turn out and I meet the most interesting and diverting people. Some make me laugh and others tug at my heart and soul for days."

"We felt the weight of responsibility for our children for decades. Now we are on our own. Our empty nest has reawakened the joy of freedom we had as youths."
Madrid, New Mexico
Beautiful, but bittersweet for me. I'm 57 with a 34-year-old autistic son who will never leave the nest. I reminisce about the freedom of my youth, but I'll never see it again.
I'm sorry that you have this struggle. When my mom had cancer (she passed within a year) my parents decided that assisted living was best for my brother. He now has his own home with 24-7 staff and a good relationship with family. It wasn't just that my dad wouldn't be able to handle it (he actually waited about 4 yrs after my mom died) but my brother deserves to have a life of his own too. I hope you have support.

"Burning the tatter tots, cleaning up messes and getting the kids to school late is just part of life. Blending this big family is the hardest thing I have ever been a part of but the love and support has become the greatest gift and teacher, not just for me but for all of us."
Denver, Colorado.
as i lie here in my now empty king-sized bed i can't help but smoke at the memories of being piled upin this bed a decade ago with my little ones. Enjoying the grandkids that are starting to show up now and i can't wait to have enough of them to be able to pile up again and watch Frosty while drinking hot chocolate!!!
We got curious about how the photographer manages to make people feel comfortable in front of her camera and expose their personal and intimate lives. Barbara shared that she chats with her subjects for a bit before they start. "I'm friendly and not very intimidating so it's usually easy to build a rapport. I make sure they know it is collaboration and it is their portrait as much as it is mine. I never make anyone do anything they don’t want. If my subjects are naked it is because they want to be. For many people, it is a high point in their life to show, in the most honest way possible, who they are. To take off any artifice and reveal their true nature is truly fascinating and often people just come alive."
Dale, Age 48
"I never wanted to be a girl, I just wanted to be a cowboy with red lipstick. Now, far away from Texas and all the religious repression of my youth, I feel powerful and finally free."

Load More Replies...I'm in Texas and though I've never had Dale's feelings i feel that Texas needs to find a way to accept more people. It can still be a very repressive state.
Good for you, dude. What a shame that people can only truly be free to be themselves when they've left behind their oppressive hometowns 😔 No one should be forced to conceal who they truly are.

"It is in my life-threatening health that I have come into myself. I have already done more living than I ever imagined, way more than I was ever promised. The days when I feel the most pain can easily be filled with laughter and joy because my pleasures have been earned."
The photographer told us that her subjects get very excited when they see their photos in print:
"One transgender gentleman had just finished transitioning and the photograph was empowering for him and his community. When I told him it had been printed in a German magazine he was so proud and excited – I had to track down copies for him and have them shipped over. It was heartwarming. One of the most prominent photos of the 'Jessica' series has been printed in just about every country. The image of her is almost iconic - someone called her youth culture American Goddess. Also, a friend and her young family were one of my first photos of her and every time it is published she is still so excited and we try to get copies."
Lula, Age 97
"I like people, all people. If you are good, I will know."
Sartartia, Mississippi
And if you’re not good, watch out for her shoe! I had a G’ma like Lula. They’re awesome, but don’t get on their bad side, they’ll let you know it! 😉
I bet when you meet her in person her spirit fills the whole room with goodness. That is why she knows goodness in others if it's present.✌️❤️🥰🌍
I wish I had you beside me to tell me where I was right and wrong... My Mom did that but I lost her. Then, I lost myself.

"It’s dangerous here, we need to protect the girls. We have basic dreams, a home with running water and electricity. But, mostly a safe place for the girls to grow up." (Father)
Navajo Reservation, Kayenta, AZ
I don’t know if BP Peeps know, but being a female, Native American on a reservation in America is literally one of the most deadly places to be. Native women are being abducted at an astonishing rate. Literally thousands of young native women are missing. It is absolutely soul crushing.
Also there aren't any actual statistics. Absolutely horrendous.
Load More Replies...The Indigenous American population are THE most ignored and underrepresented Humans in the United States. The living situations on many "Reservations" are Absolutely Deplorable. Domestic violence, drug/alcohol abuse are rampant, disappearances too common. We've faced the BLM Movement & as a person with Native American Ancestry I say times Up to face THIS issue. Do I think it will happen? Probably not...it's too big a shame...what can you say about taking an entire country from its inhabitants? The former President used the term "Pocahontas" and people protested for a nanosecond, has he used the vile N word people would still be trying to hold him accountable. It's time for a BLMAL - Brown Lives Matter A LOT Movement. ✌
I agree, except that BLM and #MeToo have done little for Black FEMALES. BLM is mostly about Black males and white women stole #MeToo. So, if you're hoping for a joint BLM collaboration- it won't help Native American anymore than it helps Black females. It will just be a SHOW of support.
Load More Replies...Why can we be so cruel to each other. Why hurt each other, why make other feel unsafe. I don't know...I loose hope for us as a species every day.
Historically, Native tribes have not fared well when they tried to take on or resist the US government. As far as I know, only the Seminoles were successful.
Load More Replies...This is appalling, Land of the Free? only free if you have lots and lots of money, not if you are Native to country or just damn poor. and you Americans go on about British behaviour 100's of year ago? At least we have learnt and not continuing and hiding it, disgusting.
As if there are no poor, no abused, no sexually assaulted in England??
Load More Replies...This is very sad. I myself if had to live her would get birth control and not bring children into such a unsafe environment. Even though most the world is unsafe now a day greed is killing the planet and the human race. We don't deserve this planet
Hire much would you give her? A months worth? A year? Five years? Health care facilities are few & far between. Besides she's home w2 kids from what i assume is a past partner, I doubt bc is her biggest problem right now
Load More Replies...As far as rape, murder, abduction, sex trafficking, and domestic violence....it's #1 Native American females #2 African American females It's tough when your men and boys of color get so wrapped up in their own victimhood that they feel entitled to abuse and brutalize. But white men also still abuse and sexually exploit these groups (with people pretending it never happens anymore). But mostly white men don't care about these two groups of women the way they do white, Asian, and fairer, moderately ethnic looking Hispanic women.- especially white men in law enforcement, government and the court system.
We have been conditioned to believe that one gender and race is supreme. Time to change the narrative.
Load More Replies...We (European descended folk like myself) really screwed over the natives. We took there land, killed them, and what we didn’t kill or take from them we dumped on the worst land we could find and let them starve.
Ah yes, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the only known government entity practicing out and out slavery as a benefit for the slaves.
Run by Natives for Natives! Worked for the BIA for 6 years and everyone in charge was Native!
Load More Replies...I pray they stay safe along w anyone other females on the reservations.. I don't understand what's happening w that & where they're all being taken to but it's absolutely devastating that nothing is being done.. we don't even have a missing persons database for indigenous women.
This project has been going on for 6 years already. It's a very long period that might make it hard for people to keep being inspired. However, for Barbara, it's not like that. "Every time a door opens for me with a new subject I am completely overpowered by the newness, mystery and vulnerability of the scene. There is an aura that hangs in the air the whole time I am shooting. This is a person's life and story to be told and it is a high honor to be the one to tell it so I take it very seriously. Photography is the art form I have chosen and I am always invigorated and reborn over and over by it."

"After 27 years together and 4 years of marriage, our closeness has elevated to a point that being together is a total of one, as in one plus one equals one."
This photo is just wrong, a TRAVESTY. Who the heck wears glasses to bed?!
Finally a bedroom which doesn't make me cringe! All other pictures are so cluttered with mess. Then I keep looking at this picture and it seems staged. Still, good for the happy couple! 27 years is great! Hopefully many more to come!
Staged? Unlike all the others in the set? They agreed to be photographed!
Load More Replies...Lol Jonathan! My wife falls asleep almost every night with her glasses on. Sometimes I am still awake and I take them off and set them on the night stand. Sometimes, she wakes up in the morning and reaches for them on the night stand and then realizes they are still on her face. Then we both have a little chuckle. Great way for two old gals to start the day!
i just can't with this photo. Glasses in bed??? what kind of weird satanic pact allows you to sleep in glasses?!? Awesome bed and lots of love in the room, though. other than the weird glasses thing is pretty cool.
Former ballerina (I'm guessing) still beautiful surrounding herself with beauty. Lots of upvotes.
@Denny Cwiek, Why "former"? It might not be her profession anymore, but it appears as though she probably still has the chops to do it for her own enjoyment (& probably teaches as well). But I totally agree she is beautiful & powerful.
The photographer added that the project is almost complete now – it has been 6 years since she took the first photograph and she is currently looking for a publisher for the book.
"It is also my hope to have American Bedroom in museum shows that would travel across the country. That would be the most incredible way to honor all these extraordinary American stories."

She'll give up being nice when she meets all the abusive toxic men out there.
Load More Replies...I feel some of this photography does the opposite to convey the spirit of what's going on (unless I'm missing something) I studied this image, the room is a happy little girls room, fun, the caption shows her joy. The mood of the image looks like a charity ad for child neglect or something. No offence, just took me off gaurd
Good girl. Don't let anyone tell you that you're "too nice". That's happened to me but at 71 being a nice person has (and is) giving me a good life.
Sad midwestern training for girls. Be nice. Don’t get mad. Always be happy. So young and already conditioned to fulfill societal expectations of girls.
Can't a little girl just enjoy being a little girl. So what if she wants to always be happy. I have a daughter who is just like you! She was not always this way she used to be like the little girl Crazy times.

"With the world moving ever so fast, these apples of my eye remind me to slow down, see the beauty in all things. They are the light."
Agreed! The picture would have been perfect sans the chickens
Load More Replies...The lighting... Initially, I thought it was being provided by nature but then it seemed to be emanating from the girls. I finally settled on it being a combination of both nature and nurture (and a skilled photographer/right place right time) that makes this so ethereally surreal.
Gorgeous! But why are the chickens inside? I love my chickens, but that would open up a whole mess to come inside.

Camille: "People have this idea that dreams are for the young, but my biggest dreams have only begun to come true now, in my third decade. It’s as though I finally gave myself permission to chase everything unabashedly, from what I believe family looks like to the sounds I want to share with the world. The world is opening up to me more every day."
Ashley: "If you told me 5 years ago that I would be a touring musician, married to my amazing and beautiful wife, and living happily in Portland, I would have cried tears of happiness. Never give up the fight for your version of happiness in this life. You won’t know the treasures that lie ahead until you’re there living them. With our powers combined, we can do anything."
I needed this. I am 33 heading to 34 and I feel like I've missed everything and everyone around me got the express ticket while I was left at the station.
In what f****d up world is 31 not young ?? Like your not even done half your life yet
I think a lot of women just heard this "You need to have kids in your 20s or you are to old to have healthy kids"-BS a few times to often and now automatically think something like that: "Damn, I'm 30 now and am to old. " "To old for what?" "For having kids." "Do you even want kids?" "No..." "Then to old for what?" *surprised Pikachu face*

"Hold on tight. Hold on to one another. Show those you love how much you love them. If you think of someone, send them a note, let them know. There is no yesterday, no tomorrow, just today."
Detroit, Michigan
I read these and think...how lucky these people are that have a home. It's Christmas time of year and so many years as a child without a place to sleep...it's America, it's polarizing many children without a pillow, a bed, a home. Our elderly also suffer greatly without homes, money for medications. Be aware and take responsibility for each other. We need to be a community, not individuals making a future on the failures of others. I have a bedroom today because of things that are not good. People took advantage of me so that I may sleep in a bed. So, be kind, be a community that doesn't strip a person of their dignity.
I am so very sorry that happened to you, I hope that you are okay now. I completely understand what it's like not having a place to call home, or even somewhere safe enough to lay down long enough to sleep, and you see all the people going about their normal lives and you want to cry because they don't understand how lucky they are to have something as simple as a bed, or a couch to lay on. I am truly sorry that people have hurt you, but I want you to know that it does get better, there are good people in the world. I am sending you love and good wishes and know that there is help out there, don't be afraid to ask for, and accept it

"Life is good. Paradise will rise from the ashes and I will be part of that."
Paradise, California
Heartbreaking, no doubt a victim of the Paradise fires. Called the Camp Creek fire, started November 2018, took 86 lives. Considered to be one of the deadliest and worst natural (I have issues with it being called natural) disasters in California history, and one of the most expensive. Caused by the local electric companies faulty electric line (the utility had been cutting corners on servicing their equipment and tree maintenance all over the State resulting in fire after fire). Many people including myself think the CEOs ought to be jailed for murder. I was privy to photos of the destruction, and it was life altering just to see the photos. I hope these victims see some fair restitution soon, it’s been waaaaay too long to continue to live homeless as a direct result of negligence from a utility company
Thank you for providing background info on some of these posts.
Load More Replies...After the actual hellscape she's seen, it probably does to her.
Load More Replies...Amazing photojournalism project. I loved it. The photos and the stories. Life is a strange story.
I'm a camp fire survivor and I still live in the area. 3 years later people are still waiting for relief so they can rebuild. In the meantime many are still living in trailers or are still homeless. I have no faith but I am optimistic about the future of Paradise. It will never be the same cute little town it was but I don't think it will stay as it is now.
The ceo should be jailed for sure and hope people sue, and don't forget pets or wildlife that may have been killed due to these peoples greed. They need to be punished for there crimes for there selfish, greedy ways
As a NorCal resident and former CalFire Dispatcher who also lives in a mountain community the Camp Fire shook me to my core. Paradise has several roads going out of town, we have one, little to no cell service & a high geriatric population, thousands living off the highway that will be doomed should the Fire be blocking Highway 44...and it WILL happen, there hasn't been a major Vegetation Fire here in over 60 years. And for Mazer...the reason they called it a "Natural Disaster" was due to the 70mph winds. I saw in real time the first report of this Conflagration on the CHP website, I knew what the winds were on Highway 70 at the time & thought omfg...they can't stop it, I was honestly surprised there weren't more fatalities. As to the utility company...they now shut our power off for days denying many people access to their wells to get water should there be a fire, my former neighbors house burned to the ground this summer because he had no water & had it been windy, no Shingletown.
I met a fellow artist that was from Paradise. She lost EVERYTHING, all of her paintings and supplies but more sadly she lost her doggy that she loved dearly! Not seen her since that first and only meeting but she was kind and had fire in her belly still (older woman) so I hope she found a new path here on the peninsula or maybe she's back keeping Jeanine company!

"My bedroom is a trailer. I sleep here with my puppy, only not when it’s too hot."
Slab City, California
Heartbreaking. Slab City for those who do not know, is on the outskirts of the desert southwest. It’s hell on earth. I only wish the best basics for everyone.
They have no electricity or running water and the temps reach over 100°F for months. This is awful.
Load More Replies...This is so sad. I hate seeing this, in a world of so much excess and abandon...why must we have our own living like this...truly a reflection of our so called "society".
Moving photographs, though. Nothing sweeter than seeing a child cuddle with their puppy. I wish her and her family only the very best that life has to offer.
I don't know how to name a place more ominously than Slab City. Maybe, just maybe, Raccoon City.
Nope I'm moving to raccoon city immediately if I find it
Load More Replies...I hear you Kasey. I can't take being hot. Once you're down to naked, that's it. When we are cold we can add lots of clothes, blankets, what have you.
She looks exhausted. I can somewhat imagine what she going through as I’ve lived in a camper for about 2 years before according to some people in the comments there no electricity or running water and it’s insanely hot there!! We always had a generator and we eventually got water! But if she had to live like that then my heart goes out to her. The exhaustion is understood.
yes! it's not an easy life even for adults. i wouldn't put my kid in this situation if i have a choice.
Load More Replies...If you’re all quite done making snap judgements about my country a cursory internet search will reveal that Slab City is an intentionally off the grid location for people who want to live an alternate lifestyle. They are not there because of poverty but by their own choice. Check out pictures of the place on google earth. You’ll see what I mean
Children don't have a choice. It's fine ( read acceptable ) if an adult has made the choice to live there, but to subject a child to such temperatures is just plain cruel.

"Since I left traditional society I have never been happier. I just live one day at a time and don’t worry about punching a time clock 9-5."
It's amazing to see someone at peace and truly happy. Sad that people can't simply appreciate that, they instead patronize and act as if their way of life is the only way. Like our purpose in life is to work a 9-5 job. I admire your way of life and feel truly sorry to those who feel they have to serve the man rather than fulfill their own happiness. I'd hate to be herded like sheep, obviously others enjoy it. Cool thing about the human race is we have the right to be individual. Not everyone is a follower 😉
I jus wanted to see one black couple in bed… in love. Just one.
Did you see the family??? 5 kids & 2 parents all piled into bed together? And yes, black. Also, at least 1 couple on here was mixed, (meaning one person was black) I wasn’t really keep track TBH. It’s obvious that photographer is white tho. She’s going to advertise, & attract similar people even if she believes she’s making an effort not to. If you want real representation, (and not token crap,) you generally have to have someone from your own community provide it. TBF, there were others families of color in here as well. But, you’re right in pointing out the under representation. I’m part Hispanic, (Tho to look at me, I’m every recessive gene that floated thru that side of the family.) I’m also an amateur photographer, and really focused on the composition of the photos. (The lighting in particular,) in most cases. The individuals were somewhat secondary to the rooms & focus itself. (But that’s me being artsy on a Friday night. So maybe not the best example.)
Load More Replies...All these pics are awesome. But this one really makes me want to learn more about the subject, Andrew. So cool. Looks like a tree house!
I wonder what he does for food. If he hunts and gathers, or grows his own.
I left society and it's norms behind in 2011 and never looked back.
It depends on what country he lives in but, if it's the US, he's going to have to start putting in years at work in order to collect Social Security in his old age.
There will be no social security available for his generation, it's not even going to be available for my own Gen X. his generation and my generation are paying the social security for people who are collecting it now, that's how it works, there is no social security savings account, I'm afraid.

Janie: "Despite being raised by the same parents our upbringing was vastly different and she had it a lot harder. I wish I could have changed things but I’ve always looked up to her courage and perseverance. I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world. She is my best friend."
I love this. Reminds me of when my sister and I lived together, before either of us had kids. We used to be this close...
I have a very strained relationship with my sister, to put it mildly and this is really really uplifting and hopeful. We’re a little older than these gals but it’s very inspiring to see how much they really are happy and love each other. I would really love to have that with my younger sister as well. Maybe. Hopefully.
This makes me so happy. I always tell my daughters, “you are the best friends, you’ll each have. You’ll piss each other off & fight, but you’ll always come back to each other because you’re sisters. In the end, that makes you family AND friends.” My girls are in their teen years and they are just now getting to be friends again. (There we’re BFFs as toddlers. Then life/school happened. It’s been a little rough for a while. But I’m glad I was right.) I always wished for a sister. I’m so glad my girls have this in each other. This picture radiates what I hope for my girls.
Sisterly love. Hold on to that as much as possible. I lost my sister in August, Id do anything to have one of those moments with her again.

"I have lived in the Carnival all my life and I have loved it. I wouldn’t change a thing except that I’m going blind making it difficult to bring up my 13-year-old daughter."
Gibsonton, Florida
He is a man wanting and willing to bring up his daughter. He has my respect. Age shouldn't matter.
If you're not familiar with Gibsonton, Florida, it's became a kind of winter or off-season haven for circus and sideshow performers. Loved the X-Files ep set there (but filmed in Vancouver, natch), "Humbug", with Jim Rose (of Circus fame) as Dr. Blockhead and The Enigma as The Conundrum (my favourite XF credit ever). How old was Mick Jagger the last time he got a woman pregnant? Pretty old, I think.
And pretty much a pedophile in his younger days, as was so strangely accepted back then. Gross.

There are lots of things he can try to alleviate this, like checking for cataracts ocular eye pressure tests to treat glaucoma, basic eye tests to be fitted for progressive lenses, etc. My grandfather in his 70ies developed double vision in one eye, something that is correctable with lenses but he didn't know that and made him depressed and unable to read books..
Not fair that women have to go thru menopause and men can still knock it out!
He may be 86 but he's doing his best to cate for a young daughter as his own health is starting to fail him. He's trying, regardless of his age and that's more than most younger, dead beat types do during their offsprings entire life.
So what, he still failed her by having her at his age

The evidence is in, will the jury see? Or will they take my life from me?"
Texas
Maybe she killed the s*** that put her through all that and gone to trial. Now awaiting the verdict. "Or will they take my life from me",meaning prison or the death penalty which I think Texas still carries out. Case files on the bed perhaps? Just thinking out loud here. I hope justice prevails.
I wish there was a way to read some of the back stories to these photos.
Any woman who kills a man because he raped her should be given a f****** medal.
Wow. My heart felt so much empathy while my eyes filled with tears. Whoever u are. U are not alone. "We" the many of us who had lived through having this world take bits and pieces of us for their pleasure. While trying hard to break us. All awhile hoping to force us to never see our worth. For us to never see the beauty that God created from within us. Many of us who live with regret, misery. While knowing that yesterday can never be lived again. Only this second, this very moment is a guarantee. For U, the person reading this to the person who is sure scroll pass this. Whatever doubt. Whatever darkness that covers your heart, mind, soul, and body. I ask that U cast it away! For even a dot of light will make the darkness disappear. Never forget that! Do not allow demons and devils to make U forget U were created by greatness! U are perfect! There is no other U! U have purpose! U are a BLESSING, a MIRACLE! Now look in the mirror and smile. Life is good even when it's bad! Hugs! ;)

It is tough. It's tougher when you are older, set in your rigid ways. Young people can build their lives together. Older people need to work extra hard to mesh their established lives, compromise on what you thought was really the right way to do things. You both really need to want it because it is so easy to just give up and stay living alone.
I LOVE living alone. It took me a long time, and several relationships, to realize it's okay to love my own company most of all.

However, I have slept like a baby ever since and I believe my good health and disposition are the result of getting such good sleep every night!

Tarah, its hard, it really is. It took me 6 months and two different styles of masks. Its a therapy? So in order to get the benefit you need to keep at it. The biggest thing to remember is that sleep apnea and please dont' take my word for it, I am not a doctor, however over time your heart becomes enlarged and that leads to heart disease. He looks comfy sleeping on the porch, prob no A/C. Many communities are good & bad. I've been to Guadalupe, Arizona, nestled right in PHX, & there are a lot of pro's & cons about it. It's mainly Mexican folk & has a great cultural, homey feel to it. I used to go to the little stores to buy ingredients for MX dishes, & maybe some fun things like handmade pinatas. Many great families that are happy being around each other. It is poor, therefore lacking opportunity & the typical things that occur w lack of $.

Pensacola, Florida
I admire that you accept the chances of a professional career being small. I wish more young people could accept that their passion for athletics can just be a hobby. Too many coaches and parents force the idea that they can be a professional if they 'just worked harder at it." I knew a number of people in high school who were "all football, all the time" and devoted themselves fully to it at the expense of academics and the rest of their lives. I don't think any of them even made it onto college teams.
Yep...get a real job to supply yourself and keep your passion as a way to reward yourself whenever you want

Often I think how if I hadn’t spent so many years away from it, I’d be experiencing success as an artist not playing catch up.
Even if you can't go professional, you can always keep dance in your life - and sometimes that is important! You can teach, find an amateur troupe or just dance!

Wow that's.....rude. A lot of people have pets prior to ending up as "the poor" and choose not to just throw their pets away, especially if kids are involved. Plus we have no idea if they are even impoverished, this could easily have been caused by a disaster like many of the other photos here and they are just trying to get back on their feet. It is totally normal and okay to be anxious about the future and not be sure of what you want. I can relate with that and *especially* with the fear of becoming trapped in your hometown. If the past few years have shown us anything, it’s that the future is never certain. I think a part of getting older is becoming more comfortable with that fact and being okay with not knowing what your future will hold. Remember that wherever you are in your life, you’re not alone. ❤️
