Picky eaters, adorable cuddlers, and rule followers or breakers... you may think we’re talking humans, but no. This post is entirely dedicated to our beloved four-legged friends who, just like their two-legged hoomans, have their own personalities, tastes and dislikes.
And quirks too! Believe it or not, some of them are so bizarre, no wonder their owners are met with eyerolls and have to prove they’re not lying. “What quirk does your pet (past or present) do that nobody believes when you tell them?” asked DMLorance on Ask Reddit, and received tons of entertaining stories.

One of my cats legitimately sleeps in my bed. Head on my pillow, under the blanket, held to my chest like an actual baby. He will spend all night like this and get mad if I stop cuddling him at any point. We sleep with our noses almost touching, and I know when he boops my nose with his that he wants me to cuddle him tighter. It's bizarre but adorable.

Every night at around 10 pm, my childhood dog would tell me it's time to go to bed. I could be in the living room watching TV and she would sit at the doorway and make little 'boofs' until I eventually got up and followed her to bed. This happened every night from my high school years until the day she passed at 15 years old. I miss that old sassy girl.
My Dolly does the same thing. Every night at 9:00, she lets me know it’s time for me to climb into bed so she can lay on me and go to sleep. She’s currently snoozing on my lap and softly snoring.

My cat is litter trained, but at some point he figured out the purpose of the toilet and decided to use it. It was just the two of us at the time, so I was confused by the tiny turds in my toilet until I actually caught him squatting on the seat and hanging his furry little butt over the bowl. It was pretty freaking impressive, honestly.

I'll just be laying around and yell for my cat when I haven't seen her in a while, "Mildred! Come give me a kiss!" She will always come running into the room and jump on me, she will turn her head to the side and I'll kiss her cheek, then I turn my head to the side and she quickly pushes her nose into my cheek, she will jump back down and go back about her way after. It's the sweetest, but I dont bother telling anyone, though. I don't need to be perceived as the crazy cat lady anymore than I already seem, lol.
According to Julia, it is always crucial to differentiate whether the behavior you observe is a unique little quirk or a worrying symptom. “Such dog behaviors as walking in circles before laying down or cat kneading are just two examples of ancestral oddities. These behaviors are not necessarily abnormal, but they are still interesting to observe.”
She added that while each pet's behavior is unique, some of the most common reasons for unusual pet behaviors include boredom, anxiety, and lack of exercise.
My father's dog designs elaborate alarm systems with his toys. At night before bed he arranges toys that squeak inside of doorways and at the top and bottom of stairs. If you move the toys he politely waits until you aren't looking and then places the toy back. They don't just end up in a spot they are placed there. It also seems that the toys are chosen for each location based on ease of squeak and volume. The loudest toys are inside the door of the bedroom.
One final note on placement. If the door swings inward the toy is placed outside of the door's arc. If it swings outward it's right in the middle.

We have a very unique dog that seems to have internalized a set of rules. He is friendly with our 3 cats however if he observes them doing something that we(the humans) have corrected them for previously he will then take on the responsibility for future occurrences by sitting beside the misbehaving cat and barking at them until they stop.
When my cat is on the table or on the kitchen counter, my dog barks at her. I don't know if she's saying "mom said you're not allowed to do that" or "if I'm not allowed to do that, you aren't either", but there's definitely some big sister disciplining going on.
Whenever I do push-ups, my dog crawls under me and pushes up off the floor against my torso, trying to help me up.

When asked whether every pet has distinctive character features, Julia said that there is no universal answer to this question, as the character traits of pets can be influenced by a variety of factors, including breed, environment, and owner. “However, some generalizations can be made,” she added.
“For example, certain breeds of dogs may be more prone to aggression or excitability than others, while cats that are used to being around people are likely to be more social than those that are not. Additionally, the way a pet is raised can also play a role in shaping its personality. For example, a dog that is routinely praised and rewarded for good behavior is likely to be more obedient and well-behaved than one that is not.”
I had a kitty who once accidentally got a static electric shock touching her nose to the edge of my metal flat files. For the rest of her long life, she would touch her nose to the corners of things; doorways, furniture, etc looking for more. When she did get shocked again she’d paw at the object and bite in its general direction. I used to “charge her up” in winter by roughing up her fur so she could play her strange game some more. I got my dog Snoopy when I was 10 years and ever since he was a puppy he had this weird love for lettuce. He would go absolutely nuts for it and so whenever I had a sandwich or a burger I would give him some of my lettuce.
Over the years it became a ritual that whenever I prepared any food that involved lettuce for myself, I would grab extra lettuce for him so I could toss it to him as I ate.
He passed away almost 5 years ago after nearly 17 years together, but I still find myself grabbing that bit of extra lettuce for him. It's kind of funny that his little quirk has still stuck with me for all these years and I honestly never want it to go it away, because it's a little way I remember him.
Mine is that our cat that passed away last year use to play hide and seek with my husband Curtis. Curtis would hide and our cat Buster would run around everywhere until he found him. He would even try to sneak up on him. If he was hiding on the other side of our TV console, Buster would crawl under the console just so he could jump out and “scare” him. If ever Curtis hid so well that Buster couldn’t find him, my husband would jump from his hiding spot and say boo. This would make Buster pout that he had not found him on his own and he would go sit on the couch staring at my husband with a “You son of a bitch” face. Buster even got to where he would hide while playing the game. Cats are hard to find sometimes anyway without one intentionally playing hide and seek and playing with the dedication that Buster would play with. We would both look for him until we gave up and sat on the couch. He would then stroll out a few minutes later with a smug smile on his face.
“A pet can potentially develop a weird behavioral quirk in their adulthood, but it's also possible for this behavior to develop at any other point in the pet's life,” the spokesperson at Online Vet explained. “It could be anything from a sudden fear of loud noises to a newfound obsession with chasing shadows. In other animals, you could observe more aggressive behavior, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, or being more fearful of people and other animals.”
However, if you are concerned that your pet is developing a new, previously unseen behavior, please consult with a veterinarian to rule out any underlying medical issues. While it is often just a weird behavioral quirk, sometimes it’s also a sign of some more serious problem.
My rabbit feigned illness to get attention.
There were so many times throughout her life that my pet rabbit would pretend to be dying that I'd stay home from work or trips, shower her with love and treats, etc. that my boyfriend began to notice a pattern: She was "deathly ill" each time we'd start packing for a weekend away. Not eating, lethargic, refused her favorite treats, when I shook the bag when normally she'd come running, etc. I'm panicking and stop packing, getting ready to call the vet when my boyfriend pointed out, "she always does this. Just leave the room for a bit"
So I left the room and nervously kept getting ready when I hear a shuffle from her cage. She sprinted to her food dish where I dumped the treats and ate them in 2 seconds, sprinted over to her fresh pile of hay and started shoveling that into her mouth. I called out her name from the door frame and she greeted me with a thump of her foot while still eating.
Another time, once the "oh you're leaving? I'm sick" trick wasn't working anymore, I noticed she wasn't hopping at all. She... walked, with her back legs. She walked across her whole play pen, walked into the litter box, walked out, then settled awkwardly in her bed. I tried picking her up and she was just dead weight. I panicked because here was my 6 year old rabbit with a dislocated hip or something so I shook her treat bag because that's all I thought of doing and she sprinted normally over to me, stood up on her back legs with her front legs in the air, bright eyed and bushy tailed waiting for those sweet, sweet dried peas and carrots.
She actually just passed away last weekend at the age of 9 1/2. She suddenly stopped eating and it took half a day of me syringe feeding her for my now fiance to actually believe something was seriously wrong. It's the reason I always allowed myself to believe her tricks because there'd come a day when it wasn't a trick. Unfortunately she was just old, and even syringe feeding wasn't enough to keep her going. Rest in peace you little trickster. I sometimes think you were more dog than a rabbit
I had a dog that did this. At one point I began to realize that his upset tummy coincided with my baking schedule. Felling sorry for him, I'd give him something gentle and home made like Graham crackers. This went on his whole life, but I never let on I knew.
With my old cat, who died a year or 2 ago, we had a game.
We called it Gun.
The game involved shooting him, in the face, at point-blank range, with a NERF gun. Now this on the surface sounds cruel... but he loved this game. If I cocked that NERF gun he would literally come running from anywhere in the house. He'd then hunker down directly in front of me... bracing for impact. Then he would give a short meow. I (And others who played with him) specifically waited for the meow. That was his "go" signal. And we'd let fly, aiming directly at his nose, usually from around 3 feet away.
Sometimes he would then bound after the dart, sometimes even fetching it. Sometimes he would hunker down again and meow, asking for more. If you were willing, he would play this game for as long as you'd keep playing... although I usually stopped after unloading all 6 rounds.
In the end we buried him with a NERF dart.
Bet he's happy playing with the NERF dart at the Rainbow Bridge with all the other critters!
My old cat Star could tell when I was suicidal and would lay on my chest and go limp so if I tried to move her, she wouldn't be able to be moved without making me feel worse. She would purr and purr while giving me kisses until the moment passed.
I miss her more than anything.
My 9month old kitten will treat me like a playmate and not like a regular cuddly person. She will wait around corners to jump out and play. She will run at me sideways all POOFED up to initiate a chase. High fives with no treats and sitting when asked to do so.

My dog demands I read to him. Whenever I'm sitting reading something he'll come over, put his head on pages, and paw at me until I start reading to him.
My dad had a male cat years ago. He was an indoor/outdoor cat and one day when he did not return home for the night, my dad went to look for him and found him injured somewhere after what looked like a dog bite. So he got bandages and stitches on his leg and had to stay indoors because he was injured. Then he gradually healed and had a limp on the injured leg so my dad didn't let him outdoors fearing he might be attacked again. The vet said the limp should go away soon. But it didn't. My dad believed the cat was faking the limp, so one day he watched him from the corner of the kitchen door as the cat walked perfectly without a limp when nobody was around. He just did not want to go outdoors because he feared dogs now.
My cat is extremely territorial. My new boyfriend didn't believe me until while we were making out on my couch, my big ol' main coon went behind him and when he went to look to see what my cat was doing, my cat sucker-punched my boyfriend on the face three times with his paw, ran away to my kitchen, started opening and slamming shut the lower kitchen cupboards, and then ran to his litter box to take a massive s**t.
He also would get in between us in bed, put his back to me, stretch all four legs out and slowly put his claws into my boyfriends back and then retract them again. When my boyfriend told him to stop and turned over to go back to sleep, five minutes later my cat did the same thing with all four of his paws, but would only put *1* claw into his back.
They are bffs now because my boyfriend is a morning person and I am not, which is something very useful to my cat.
My childhood cat burglarized our neighbors. We found swimsuits, sporting equipment, and even one time caught him dragging a kids backpack through the kitty door. What happened to the kid, I wonder.

My childhood dog had a weak rear right leg, so anytime he wanted to hike his leg on something off to the left he would just do a handstand rather than try to support his weight in the bad leg.
But wait... there's more. When he started getting older we brought home a puppy who absolutely idolized his big brother. Within about a month he had worked his way up to also doing handstands when he peed, but for this dog it was EVERY SINGLE TIME. I guess he thought that was just how you were supposed to do it.

My husband is a roofer and our first dog would climb the ladder and sit beside him. Almost caused 3 cars to crash and a runner to jump in a ditched when she barked at him we've had great dogs since but she was special.
There was one in a nearby town who did this but only when there were parades in town the owner would open a window and out he'd pop!
My birb likes to sit in my cupped hand (like really gets floofy/smushed up and comfortable in it like it's his couch) and make this face (◕ᴗ◕✿) while I give him scritches.
He bites my hand when I stop, so this has to happen until he falls asleep or something. When he is ready to poop (birbs poop every half hour or so) he walks out of my cupped hand and onto my leg, staring at me bobbing his head up and down so I could bring him to his cage. If I'm spaced out watching TV, he will walk to the edge of my foot and poop off the side. He's so polite like that.
My bird says "Good night" when she's ready for bed. If you don't turn out her light and leave, she'll keep saying it and start growling.
She usually says it in the evening, but she'll "good night" me out of the room in the afternoon if she wants a nap.
I have a cat that plays fetch with his stuffed animals.
He also gets annoyed when I don't throw the stuffed animal far enough, and loves to chase it down the stairs into the basement.
I have a Pomeranian who is a total introvert. She's super laid back and chill and that kind of throws people off anyway. No matter where I live she claims some space in the house as her "bedroom" and goes there to be alone.
One time it was a cabinet in my kitchen. She claimed one of the lower unused cabinets and took soft stuff and snacks and toys in there and could open the cabinet all by herself. She would chill in there for hours.
Currently it's the corner of the sectional against the wall, she has all her favorite things under there and my other dog NEVER goes under there. It's her private space.
One of mine can hear a jingle from a commercial from the other side of the house and come running because he knows that jingle for that commercial means dogs will be on TV.

I had a toy poodle mix named Yoda who would meow like a cat if I said "Yoda go meow". It started as me saying it as a joke to him here and there and one day he actually started doing it. He was a good boy.

My old collie used to yell at us if we didn’t come home from school on time. Like if we went to a friends or the walk home took too long, he would howl at you for the rest of the night and there was no getting out of it with him.
He was also afraid of ice cream bucket handles.

My dog refuses to drink from a bowl. We took him to the vet because he was sick, turns out he was dehydrated. My dog always has water next to his food, but wasnt drinking it. We changed his bowl to a normal dish, the ones we use to eat soup. Now he drinks from it, if u change it back to a normal dog's bowl, he will stop drinking water and get sick. Nobody knows why.
Our boxer who passed away used to howl along to billy Joel “piano man”. as soon as she heard the pino riff at the beginning she would perk up and start signing. She taught our current boxer who was a puppy when she had cancer and he has since taught our other dogs. It’s so nice to hear them sing because they all wouldn’t have learned if it weren’t for our first dog. She used to sing along to Adele as a puppy as well. Miss that dog so much.

My cat likes to take baths with me. Every night, whether it’s a shower or bath, she comes right in. Baths are her favorite though.
Well, every day when I get home my cat is usually right at the door to greet me. Every time I come in I go, “Helloo!” in a kinda high pitched voice to her, along with belly scritches and pets. She’s quite a vocal kitty to begin with, but now every morning around 3-5 a.m. she walks around going “HELLOOOO” in all these strange pitches. If you lock her out of a room you’re in, she’ll sometimes stand at the door and go “helloooo” in a sadder tone. At first it was TERRIFYING but man. She’ll get the zoomies sometimes and screech hello all over the house for no reason, she just loves talking I guess. I thought I was a dog person but I seem to have a special place in my heart for cats now too!
My cat puts me to bed sometimes when I stay up past 11pm during the week. It’s like she KNOWS “you have work tomorrow dummy”. She harasses me until I get up and follow her to the bedroom.

My dog get super wound up if you make a small "pppt" like farting noise from your mouth. She legit breaks if you make this noise and starts running laps in the house and diving into you lap and begging to be pet, it's very strange. My other dog needs to look you right in the face when you come home, she will jump up and want her paws held just so she can get really close to your face then gets down and goes and does her own thing. She also hugs you if you're sitting on the ground which makes my heart weak
"Pppt". My cat didn't even look up 😃 but if I sing or even hum she thinks I'm trying to communicate and comes dashing over. Animals pick weird things to get excited about, but gah it's sooo cute!!

I had a parrot who would only whistle, but sometimes he would straight up compose songs. Nothing amazing, mostly splicing together bits of tunes he liked, but still songs that did not exist.
Fun fact: if you want your bird to talk, don't get it a mirror. Spend lots of time with it, making eye contact and repeating words often. A mirror will take loneliness away, and that's why it won't talk, because it's communicating with the other bird in the mirror, and not you.
My cat who has since passed could always tell when I was super upset. As a teenager, if I was crying she would lay next to me and gently rub my arm, hand or cheek with the end of her tail. When I stopped crying she would stop "petting" me. I miss her every day
Found a roach in the tub and screamed. The cat came running in meowing, jumped into the tub, snapped that roach up and ran off. She bit its head off then carried on being a loaf elsewhere. Not a soul believes me and she's never done it again.
Our cat, Zeke, shouts. Not a loud meow, not a screech; he just walks around the house yelling at us until we ask what the hell he wants. The first time our new neighbors heard him through the window they actually came over to ask WTF was going on. when i closed the door on my cat's foot by accident once, she screamed "ow" and sounded so much like a human that my parents thought it was me.
A long time ago we had a cat who potty trained himself. The cat was outside most of the time, so no cat litter box. He peed and pooped in my toddlers small toilet. It still had to be cleaned tho. But still, I consider it cool.
And now we have a snake who likes to wrap himself around my laptop whenever he is out and the laptop is around.
I have a cat that knows how to turn a lamp on and off. It's one of those twist knob lamps. He grabs it in his teeth and turns it.

One time, when I was decorating my room for christmas, I also had my rats out of their cage, since they need to move around every now and then. When it was time to get them back in the cage, however, Scabbers was nowhere to be found, that is, until I saw him having gone into one of the decorative stockings I had hung from my bookcase. This was something he continuously did every christmas, and when he died, it was kinda sad to see the very ratless stocking hanging from the bookcase.
I have a husky, he can be so dramatic, adorable and quite the character. A few months ago when I was making dinner, he would be close by just in case if I dropped any ingredients.
Well, instead I called to him, gave him a piece of beef trimming and said "I love you." In return he said "awoohoo!" which sounds alot like "I love you!" I said it again and he said it back again!!

My old cat hated a particular singer. I’d watch music awards shows a lot, and she loved to watch with me. But she’d get up, glare at me, and leave the room when that person was performing. She liked the shows in general though. Whenever commercials came on I’d get a look that clearly said, “What did you do to it, human? Put the music back.”
My cat takes every sherpa blanket we get. She doesn't care about any other blankets, only the sherpa ones, and she will lay on them and not leave for literally an entire day and just purr her little heart out.

Sometimes he will also just grab his toy and fling it super high up into the air and keep tossing it around. He also likes watching tv when it is on. He usually finds a comfy spot and then settles in to watch it.
My other cat is a big fan of shoulder rides and will jump on your shoulders if he wants a ride if you are bending down to put on shoes or something. He can also open doors that have a handle and occasionally doorknobs if he is persistent enough.
My dog gives attitude and talks back. If you're telling him to do something he doesn't want to do he'll do it reluctantly and groan. Like if I tell him to get out of the kitchen, he'll slowly move out of the kitchen and lay down, hard, and groan. If you tell him not to give you that attitude he'll huff and sigh. If you try to move him and he doesn't want to move he'll purposely put all his weight down and will make sounds like groaning. He's a very verbal boy.
My cat loves eating French fries but people usually don’t believe me until they see her scarf a few down like they’re the tastiest thing ever placed on this earth.
I got one who we swear is so old he has dementia and will eat pizza, meatballs, of course string cheese, buns of any kind, im tryna think of the weirdest, but he will sit on the couch and meow for ANY food he never tried. If you ignore he will put front paws on the table and headbutt you in the shoulder then sit back down.. He didnt trust me that he wasnt gonna like the spicy popeyes chicken sandwich though... I picked a piece from the middle, chewed a little and tried to suck as much spice away. He touched it with his tongue, DASHED to the corner of the couch and looked at me like "You sonuva bitch" Then came back asking for more.. it was a NO..... I used to have one when i was in grade school that would drink my milk as I ate my cereal.
Cats can have such weird food flexes. Melon, tomato, cucumber, chocolate (yeah I know that's not good for them, but she was a thief), cheese, green olives...
I used to rinse olives to get them less salty before giving to the cats. Who loved them.

One of our cats loves frozen blueberries, every time we get them out to make smoothies or whatever she is right there waiting for her share. She also enjoys apples, only Macintoshes though. I was making a crisp with empires a few weeks ago and she came in asking for some, not believing me when I told her it wasn’t the kind she liked so I have her a little piece. Whenever I come home, my dog will bring me a gift. The gift typically consists of shoes, but if there are no shoes around for her to pick up, she will grab pretty much anything she can. The best items so far being an entire yam, and a full case of beer.
We call that, "Comes baring Gifts" My Baby Boy Kaylib (Caleb) did that every time Anyone he loved walked in our house. It Was only to the lucky chosen few that he selected to do this with. I was one of those no matter if I just walked out to get the mail or coming home from work, every time, my Niece was the other one that got it no matter what, my ex was only when he was gone for longer periods of time. He also gummed you and walked you around the house. Meaning he would gently put his mouth around your arm, hardly any pressure at all, and just walk you around as if he was showing you around to see thing's.
We have a cat that will laugh at our dog when he goes into his crate for the night. The cat will actually sit on a chair right in front of the dog and stare at him and laugh. He's a jerk.

I had boxer that would walk herself. When we would get about a block away from the house, she would start jumping, barking, and turning circles. She would then grab the leash from you and carry it home. She would walk ahead a couple houses, then stop and look back to make sure I was still there, then continue on home. Boxers are the best dogs.
A few years ago I had a cat that instead of bringing me dead animals (he probably noticed that I was not very happy when I saw them) went under a specific fig tree of my neighbor and placed them in front of the door. My SO was angry because every morning ,when leaving the house, he stepped on a fig and did not understand how they got on the mat
My new cat, Ja'far, i don't think he knows how to meow. He either screams, sounds like a record skipping, or sounds like dial-up. And he loves to talk a lot, and i have only heard something close to a meow once in my life with him.
My cat likes to play tag. I start chasing, she hides behind a chair and jumps out. I act surprised to make her happy.
All 3 do this actually, the second I pull into my driveway my cats hop onto the hood of the car and step onto the side mirrors and start scratching at the windows. If I don't open the door fast enough for them, they'll climb onto the top of the car and hop onto my head when I do try to get out.
I have a cat that was rescued after it came in on a ship to my mom’s manufacturing plant. It is terrified of anyone other than those living in the house. The moment she hears a car in the drive way she will run and hide either under the bed or somewhere upstairs for hours on end(no food, water, or bathroom breaks). My brother for the last 4 years believed she didn’t exist and that we were finding a cat online and posting it/ photoshopping her with us.
She's slowed down a bit in her old age, but for most of her life she ran towards loud noises. Plates fall out of the cabinet? She ran right in there to get in the middle of it. Drop a heavy piece of furniture on a tile floor? "Hey guys! What's going on?"
I always said it was a good thing she's an inside cat, otherwise she'd run towards the first car she heard on the road going, "Oh hey, what's this!?"
My cat gets super hyper after taking a dump. She will do a few laps around the house... stop meow really loudly... then scratch her post.
My betta fish used to rub on my fingers like he was scratching his back when I put them in the water. I was only 3 or 4 so they just thought I was forcibly petting the fish, but we were buds

My cat has a really ridiculous meow. It deep and guttural. Sometimes it sounds like he's trying to say something. Most people who hear for the first time are like "WTF!?"
Also, he likes to eat plastic. I have to hang the shower curtain over the showerhead because he'll chew on it. 6-pack rings, ziploc bags, zip ties, shower curtains. I have to hide anything plastic away from him. He tried to eat one of my guitar picks one time. Thankfully I caught him before he swallowed it. He got it caught on the roof of his mouth. I heard him making an awful noise in the middle of the night that woke me up and I managed to get it out of his mouth.
My cats both liked string and stringy things like tinsel. There is no skippy place to run to, when you see shiny tinsel hanging out of your cat's butt! The other one, inly ate string or yarn. One time, i was coming home through the garage door and she got excited, ran to the door to meet me, but forgot she had a tea bag string, tag still on, hanging from her mouth! I have never seen anything cuter! She didn't have many teeth by then so eating a string was harder, and made it easier to catch her and pull it out of her mouth! Both have passed snd lived 19 years each! Good lives and well loved by us!!
I used to be able to ask my girl Luna where Daddy was and she would look right at my husband. He said it was a coincidence but I've asked her where he was when he wasn't in the room and she'd look out the doorway, like, "I dunno, he's out there, I guess."
When I was married and I didn't want to let my dog out, I would tell him to "go ask dad" and he would find my husband and annoy him until he let him out. Absolutely knew 100% who "dad" was. We are divorcing now and I won't let that cheating a$$hat have visitation.
He hates plastic of any kind. I don't know why but if he ever sees a plastic bag on the ground he'll start barking at it and herd my family to come pick it up. I'm both confused and impressed by it. I've tried to tell people about it and they don't believe that my dog would lead me to a piece of trash so I can pick it up. They just don't think he's smart enough to care about some litter in his house
My dog hates it with a passion when you pop bubble wrap. He is a rescue, he will run over tear it from tour hands and hide it!
My dog doesn't like having her picture taken. As soon as she sees a phone or camera poised for a snap, she skulks away and hides. She is asleep in most of the pictures of her I've managed to take, though even when napping she seems to have a preternatural sense of when a picture is being taken and wakes up at the last second, resulting in a lot of blurry shots of her jumping up and running away.
I know it's because she doesn't like the flash (she also hates flashlights and fire) but she does it no matter what now, even though I never turn the flash on anymore. But no one ever believes it until they see it.

My dachshund likes to be held like a baby would. Another dog knew how to roll the window down in my old car and I had to use the baby lock.

His favorite toy is also Q tips. I keep them in a mason jar and he learned the sound of the jar opening and now power runs to the bathroom whenever I open it.

My cat licks his chair. So we have this old chair that has like a cloth/velvety kinda material on the back that you lean against that he has claimed as his own. Every now and then I’ll hear a noise and when I look over he’s literally just sitting there, paws up on the back of the chair just licking it.

Would've just left the door open for him to come in but he also liked to pee on clothes -_- and it is a bitch to get cat pee out of clothes.
My rabbit loved to sit in her food dish. We got her when she was just a few weeks old, so she fit perfectly in her little bowl. She'd get comfy on the pile of pellets, and stick her head between her feet to pick up a mouthful. Eventually she'd fall asleep like a brown fuzzy pom-pom on top of her food bowl.
When she got older, I'd buy discounted boxes of mixed greens meant for salads. She'd hop right in the box and much away without a care in the world.
My beta fish Sharkbait Bubbles MCgee when he sees me gets excited because he knows its food time and will put his face to the glass and I kiss him through the glass. He will also get bored and will fill up with air then let it out slowly and sink to the bottom over and over again. His favorit spot is in the top left corner of his 12 gallon tank were whenever I walk by we will do "Kissies" or boops.
My last dog was a massive, 90 lbs Chow Shepherd mix that behaved more like a cat then a dog. She hunted birds in our yard, but rather than catch them with her mouth, I would watch her leap up and squash them with her massive frame.
It was majestic, like watching a blue whale breech. Just a big fluffy dog suddenly jumps and body slams a pigeon to death.
Then she would bring me the dead bird as an offering.
This whole thread made me so happy! Not just for the adorable quirks, but also for knowing how much each pet is loved, considering how these owners noticed/nurtured their pet's quirks. My cat Fern used to love to eat goldfish (the snack) and potato chips. My cat Florio only licked ears. He’d sit on your chest and wash your ears for hours. My current cat Hannah will sit and scream until she’s put on top of the refrigerator. And Sammy...is Sammy. He never meows, only ‘maas’; he charges around the house like a runaway bowling ball; he legitimately pulls faces and sulks if he isn’t being paid attention to...
My cat Misty loves tuna. When we're making tuna salad as soon as she smells the tuna, she comes running from any part of the house starts meowing non stop and her tail is shaking like an addict going through withdrawal until she gets the tuna. I love my baby girl

My husband bought 23 chicks last spring & hand raised them. While they were little, he kept them in a heated crate inside our house & held them each day. They are now full grown & live outside. Every morning I let them out of their pen to free roam our yard & property. Every single morning there is one hen that will come to back door & when I open it she will come inside. She walks through the kitchen, straight into living room & goes straight to my husband in his chair. She will sit with him for about half hour then starts clucking to tell him she wants back outside. Its so funny to see & I've got multiple pics & videos of her doing this. Chickens are very intelligent.
My mum had chicks that she hand raised and when they were older they also adopted another hen because it was a friend's but it was lonely. Later, they moved to a hobby farm and the two younger chickens were killed (by either a fox or and eagle). That just left the one chicken and she got lonely again, so she started coming inside to spend time with my mum during the day. Now they have more chickens again and Bertha was happy to return to staying outside during the day.

My golden doodle, Buttercup, loves to gently pick up frogs or slugs and bring them inside, where she releases them to hop around. She's now teaching the new puppy how to do it too!
Golden doodle is also afraid of UPS boxes... When she sees them she freezes!

He'll carry them around, and at least once a day come down the stairs howling somehow with one in his mouth and then drop it at our feet. He tell him he's a good boy to bring us gifts. We had a house with a brown carpet in the living room. Our long haired Chihuahua, Cricket, would go to my Dad every morning and sit at the entrance to the kitchen while he made his breakfast. He would pull out 3 dog treats, hand her the first one, and she'd sit with it in her mouth until he looked away. Then she'd sneak into the living room and scratch at the carpet under the coffee table like she was digging a hole, carefully set the treat down, then push her nose on the ground like she was burying it. She'd trot back to the kitchen ready for the next one, repeat it...then eat the last one. She saved the others to eat while my Dad was gone at work. I miss her.
we have a feral stray we took in and we have to keep her separated from our other cat b/c our other cat is very aggressive with her(both female.) We lock the other cat up in the master bedroom and den several times a day and let the feral have the run of the house. She goes crazy meowing before Jeopardy comes on so she can come out and sit with us for it.
I know this is far from unique, but the obsession that some dogs develop for chocolate is amazing. I had a dog who was almost poisoned to death by eating some, and it somehow turned him into an addict. If somebody dropped a piece and picked it up, he would lick that spot for a long, long time. My neighbor had some chocolate syrup drip into a glass base of their table, and their dog chewed through the glass to get to it. I think that a dog's obsession with something that is very bad for it is probably a metaphor for something people do, but I'll leave you to guess what I'm thinking about.
Does that mean my dog’s obsession with the garage door opener is going to be bad for him?

Our bunny loves watching footbal on TV. When he thinks it is time to watch, he jumps on a cofee table, looks at you and when you don't pay attention, he tries to jump to the place, where we hide remote controll. And when you switch a TV on, he jumps happily and he is able to watch / sleep whole match.
I had a cat that loved nursing on earlobes. She would crawl up your chest, hang out on your neck/shoulder while you're reclining and treat it just like a momma with the dough-kneading paws and all. Another one would nurse on stuffed animals that were similar color to her. Another cat loved getting shots more than anything in the world. She had INCREDIBLY thick skin that was so hard to get the needle through, but the harder you press, the louder she would purr. By the time you got the needle in, she was fast asleep from her 'massage'. We also had a cockatiel that would clean your teeth. Lie down or recline and he'll hike up your chest and expect you to open wide, then stick his head in and start flossing. My current cat once went undercover to investigate a group of deer. Her perfect disguise: tucked her tail between her legs, walked out to the group and strolled around with legs extended, poking her head down into the grass while slowly moving closer.
My very old grandma lived with our family. She was so frail we all held our breathes when she tottered around, half expecting her to fall over at any time. We also had a cat whose favourite game was to piss off grandma. The cat would hide behind the kitchen door and as grandma tottered past the cat would reach out one paw with one claw extended and just snag grandma's stocking. Grandma had so little strength, and no momentum she would just have to stand there anchored to the spot by the cat. We sort of though it was hilarious, but eventually we'd interfere and the cat would stroll off with a very self-satisfied smirk.
That made me laugh!! Poor Grandma. Cats can be such arseholes and yet, we absolutely love them for it!

My Baby Boy Kaylib, 95lb all muscle Rotti, Doberman, Shepherd mix who was the sweetest, loving, loyal dog that looked and barked extremely intimidatingly but was so far from intimidating, was so shy about taking a crap that he would either back his Butt up into the brush or bush and if we we on a walk he would get his body as close to a bush or brush, swing his back leg up and swing his butt into them to take a crap. Was difficult to fish it out if it was someone's property but I always did. And he would have his head over my shoulder investigating while I did.
We have 2 cats and a dog. If we don't close the bathroom door all three would come in. One cat will sit on the sink and stare at you, the other will jump in your lap, the dog will stare at you until you poop and then try to investigate what just happened while you are still sitting there. When that happens the cat in your lap will bitch slap the dog away. As soon as you reach for the paper the lap cat leaves. We now have a bidet toilet seat in the master and the lap cat insists on trying to reach for the water stream with her paw. It's literally a morning poop comedy show every day.
My cat loved to be vacuumed. If you were vaccuming he would lie in the way and meow loudly. If you didnt vacuum him, he would then gently swipe your leg and then lie in the way again. During being vacuumed, he would roll over when he was ready for his other side to be done
All these You-Tubers whose dogs "sing" by howling or whining should know that my dog learned how to bark... ON KEY. He always barked when the doorbells chimed, and got "good boys," and he eventually learned that sometimes, the doorbells would resonate with his bark. So... he learned to bark at the same pitch as the doorbells so they would chime in resonance with his bark!!!
"Singing" by howling or whining is usually because it hurts their ears and they want to drown it out. Sounds like yours is actually harmonizing, that's pawsome 👏😻👍

If we get more specific like "go get your rope/ball/kong" he'll bring that toy over to play. My cat refuses water from the bowl. Will only drink from the bathroom faucet. And will cry until you turn it on. He also likes to sit on my shoulders like a parrot. Our old cat (indoor/outdoor) figured out where in the house we usually were & used to knock on the window to come in.
My cat loves me to smack his backside. It's more over his hip really, but every time he gets snuggles (which is pretty much all the time) he insists on it. He used to like to be smacked pretty hard and would lean into it, if you stopped suddenly, he would fall over. He still insists on it, but being 14.5 years old, I don't do it very hard anymore. As a bonus, the last time I got a tattoo, the shop had a cat that loved to be spun on the stools artists sat on.

Load More Replies... I could write a book on all the cute quirky things my border collie does. She's crazy smart, so she's a great manipulator. She does all the usual tricks, of course: play dead, shake hands, speak etc. etc. but she also sneezes on command/for treats. She definitely understands when we talk to her. When she wants something, and you aren't sure what, we just ask: "what do you want?" And she'll look at it, i.e. the door to go out, the food if she's hungry, the bed if she wants up (she's getting old, so she needs help up. (Yes, we let her on the bed, she's special, lol) and she'll tell you exactly which way she would rather be walking. She'll silently groan that sounds like a dramatic, vocal sigh if she wants something and you aren't paying attention. Oh, there's so much more.
And another, about our bundle of happy hyperness, Ellie the Whoodle. (Wheaton Terrier/poodle cross) She loves going after balls in our backyard but will purposely push the ball under the gate to the front yard so she can’t reach it. She’ll then look at us piteously through the window and bark softly — imploring us to come outside and help this poor little doggie. She’s very patient, but if this doesn’t work she’ll move to tactic #2, which is bouncing super high in front of our window. I swear Whoodles are part kangaroo!
Our neighbour Sharon, several houses away, had a generally bonkers Siamese cat who stole clothes. I was wondering where all our socks were going. I mean, orphaned socks are a normal part of the laundry gig, but this was crazy. I finally found out that kitty was nonchalantly coming into our back door and bringing the socks home as presents for Sharon. Kind of like mice or birds, but I guess this kitty was vegan.😄 The cat then moved up to stealing clothes and leaving them in random places, such as up on my next door neighbour’s ladder. I finally caught her in the act, and she was slowly stalking the sock! She also liked to sleep under (parked!) cars, but lived a long life because we all loved her and checked under our cars. Miss her.
We had a cat that could tell time. When my husband was working, she would wake him up every morning. On weekends and after we retired, she would wake him up at that same time. He would point to the clock and say, "One hour." In one hour, she would wake him up again. She eventually figured out that he didn't want t hat wake-up call and stopped doing it.
ok i have a lot. my old cat loved asparagus and peas and said "mushroom." my current cat says "hello/hewwo" and LOVES my fuzzy blanket. she once screamed like a person and my parents thought it was ME
Ooh, I have the perfect story. So we got a retired herding dog about 6 months ago (cattle herding, he’s had his fair share of injuries but then got hit by a car and can’t run as much anymore, so medical retirement). He is literally OBSESSED with the garage door opener. Like, I’m not kidding. He will bodyslam the screen door to get to the garage when you run it, then sprint in circles jumping and barking at the ceiling. And he can jump pretty high, this breed is supposed to be able to jump over cows, so at first we thought he was going for the safety switch pull string thingy, but apparently not. But even if you don’t run the door, he’ll just sit out in the garage staring at the ceiling for hours on end. We don’t even have to worry about him running away while it’s open, he will not move. It’s the funniest thing, but seems like not very good health-wise. I think our dog is addicted to the garage ceiling. It’s weird.
Oh, and also both of our cats like to eat the chicken feed off the ground. I don’t know why, they’re predators, not chickens. But we’re just glad they’re not eating the chickens. Although our boy cat likes to sit near the chicken coop birdwatching (we say he thinks they’re his “harem”), which is a little odd. The dog is the weirdest though, in addition to the garage door thing he also really, really likes cooked veggies. Like will jump up to try to eat them out of the bowl when we take food scraps to the chickens. There’s a few types he doesn’t like (leafy greens and asparagus are a couple), but squash and cauliflower are like his favorite foods. Particularly cauliflower. We thought it was because they were cooked with meat, but he loves them even when they were on a separate pan. He doesn’t like toys at all though unless they have food in them, so that’s another weird thing. Although working dogs usually don’t. He hasn’t quite figured out this whole “retirement” thing.

I love these! I had a Manx named Joe. He had my 3 kids on a very strict shower/bedtime routine. Every night at 7 on the dot he would pick one child and meow while leading them to the bathroom. As soon as that child was done he would go to the next. Once showers were done he'd get them each in bed and give them a snuggle and then hang out with me until my bedtime. He had to sleep crushed up against my face with his paw around the back of my neck. I can't tell you how many times I woke up with his lips on mine! He crossed the rainbow bridge in August of 2020 at 20 years old and I'm still having trouble sleeping without him. He was 8 when I had my first child and I was so worried he would be jealous, but he was beyond patient and loving (and bossy, lol). Our cat Oliver claimed 3 teddy bears as his own and we find them in random places. Whenever a child has been in trouble or someone has had a bad day, we find a bear in the middle of that person's bed. I can't imagine not having animals!
Current cat HATES tuna with a passion but has been busted for stealing:5 bowls of mac&cheese,ribs,several slices of meatloaf,steak,chicken alfredo,socks, my unmentionables, my necklace ,my training clicker ,and at one point a fish food container.
My boi is fussy about cleanliness. When I rub my face on his silky-soft fur (those dives on his belly especially) he patiently bears with me and then he washes the spot thoroughly. Every time! He looks mildly disgusted but he'll let me do it again. Until one of us gives up. Guess who does.
Fun extra one: One of my cats drinks water by dipping his paws into the water bowl and licking his paws. The other cat loves being hit on the side.
I had a cat that loved to fly. Once I nearly fell over when he got in my way and I was so mad I picked him up to throw him "somewhere..." I saw my loft bed in the next room, so I hurled him into the next room up to the bed. He ran back down the ladder, tail straight up., and wanted to be thrown again. Every day after that until he passed, I had to throw him 4 or 5 times a day... across the room and up onto the loft bed
Meanwhile, my grandma picked up my cat from the outdoor table and tossed her off the second story deck… she was fine, fortunately.

My cat was a foster who adopted me but when we got her she was sick , and we had another cat so, we quarantined her in the bathroom. When I went to visit with her, she'd sit on my lap on the bowl. Now every time I'm in bathroom she's either on my lap or, hops on the bowl to be brushed. Every. Time. Even at 2am.
We had a little black cat that loved to play the gauntlet game. I'd run down the hall and duck inside one of the rooms. She'd run to the start of the hall and crouch there for a moment waggling her bottom while trying to see where I'd pop out. Then she'd dash down the hall and try to get under the bed in the last bedroom without me tagging her. She seemed to love the surprise whenever I jumped out; then I'd chase her into the bedroom and try to reach her under the bed. After I thumped my hand near her a few times, she'd dash back into the living room and the game would start over. Miss that little puss!
When my puppy first died of eating a toad I will come back.Home and call poppy and spencer and only one dog comes running to me I remember still expecting to look out side while I’m eating my dinner and see the deck and than see the dogs eating dinner or sleeping but only one dog is there. My other dog that didn’t die is 8 years next year on saint Patrick’s day and it took him ages to go back to a bit of his usual self he wouldn’t eat or really move when I show him a picture of her he wines and I cry and we bring cuddle we miss her and when I was on the point on not believe it in Santa I put a letter in the mail box asking for her to come back. The next day it was gone and I went to tell my mum and she took me into her room and said she is sorry she took the letter she didn’t want me to get upset and a year later when I realised she isn’t coming back I knew Santa wasn’t real I was only 11 nearly 12. We go to the beach she loved on the first of December the day she died and she died 3 days before her birthday I miss her so much
My cat always makes sure I get home safe. When I go out (by bike or public transportation) and am on my way home she will meet me and come inside with me. When I am safely in she wants to be let back outside. Now that my son is old enough to go out she does the same with him.
One of ours, Poppy, is a total nightmare. So now the oldest Salem, has started correcting her behavior. Now he does this to the other 3 as well. If I yell at them more than once to quit it, Salem runs out of nowhere and whoops their ass. Now if only Rayna would stop sucking on fingers and Niko would stop chirping like a freaking bird next to my ear at 4am. Cats are strange sometimes.
My Zoe (my avatar) is my honey. First, my younger cousins found her all alone in the woods. She was a really tiny kitten, I think a runt left by momma. I'm thankful every day they found her. She's my love. Anyway .. 1. She growls like a dog 2. She likes to play in water 3. She loves her belly rubbed. She'll jump up on the bed, rub one side along me while I scratch her other side & then she'll lift her leg so I put my arm between her legs & scratch her belly. She rubs her head into me & loves kisses at the same time 4. Literally within seconds of me thinking of her in my head, she comes to me 5. There is a specific chair that, no matter where it is, she'll stop underneath it & lift her back legs up & down before either sitting under it or continuing through it 6. My cat, Tybalt, will sit in one of the dinning chairs and will stare you down until you grab a nearby spray bottle filled with water and give him a few squirts. He absolutely loves it and will make little trilling noises. He lacks off all the water and will jump back into the chair, staring until you do it again. He has plenty of fresh water available to him. He just prefers to get it this way at every meal.
I’m pretty sure my dog thinks he’s a cat. He chases shadows, reflections, etc. He also thinks he only weighs about 10 pounds when in reality he weighs almost 100. He’s also really weird when it comes to drinking water. He loves drinking from the hose, and from watering cans, but he won’t drink water from his bowls unless it’s fresh water and he watched you put it in. :)
There are water fountains for pets, our cats love theirs.

So when we got serious and I would stay at her place, in the morning, sit down at the kitchen table for coffee/breakfast, he started to jump up in my lap, I would pet him. Well, it got to the point where it I didn't let him in my lap in the morning, he would cop an attitude. He would jump on the table top and try to climb down into my lap or climb over from the chair next to me, or sit there and scream his head off. My wife and her daughter were completely amazed by this. And I'm not a cat person. Rest in peace my little buddy, miss you!!!
We had two rescue bunnies that someone dumped in our neighborhood. We called them Flip and Flop. Flip was white and would jump up in the air and flip over. Flop was black and had a floppy ear. They were both male. They played tag in the back yard. Run around and tag the others rear end then take off. They took turns. Flop would play with wooden cars like a little kid. Grab them with his teeth and push them around the floor. We kept them in separate cages at night and when we were away. They would make weird eep noises at each other then.
I had a pet raccoon who loved to ride around the mouse on my shoulders. This was about thirty years ago, when I still smoked cigarettes. He would reach down into my shirt pocket, steal a cigarette and then run and hide under the couch. When I moved a couple of years later, I found he had taken something like 50 or 60 cigarettes, and had them stacked under the couch. Sadly, I had to take him back to the farm where I got him because I was terrified about the local regulations - raccoons are considered exotic animals in many towns and cities. Primarily because the standard canine rabies vaccine will kill raccoons. At least that's what my veterinarian told me.

My cat Misty loves tuna. When we're making tuna salad as soon as she smells the tuna, she comes running from any part of the house starts meowing non stop and her tail is shaking like an addict going through withdrawal until she gets the tuna. I love my baby girl

Load More Replies... My husband bought 23 chicks last spring & hand raised them. While they were little, he kept them in a heated crate inside our house & held them each day. They are now full grown & live outside. Every morning I let them out of their pen to free roam our yard & property. Every single morning there is one hen that will come to back door & when I open it she will come inside. She walks through the kitchen, straight into living room & goes straight to my husband in his chair. She will sit with him for about half hour then starts clucking to tell him she wants back outside. Its so funny to see & I've got multiple pics & videos of her doing this. Chickens are very intelligent.
My mum had chicks that she hand raised and when they were older they also adopted another hen because it was a friend's but it was lonely. Later, they moved to a hobby farm and the two younger chickens were killed (by either a fox or and eagle). That just left the one chicken and she got lonely again, so she started coming inside to spend time with my mum during the day. Now they have more chickens again and Bertha was happy to return to staying outside during the day.

We had a house with a brown carpet in the living room. Our long haired Chihuahua, Cricket, would go to my Dad every morning and sit at the entrance to the kitchen while he made his breakfast. He would pull out 3 dog treats, hand her the first one, and she'd sit with it in her mouth until he looked away. Then she'd sneak into the living room and scratch at the carpet under the coffee table like she was digging a hole, carefully set the treat down, then push her nose on the ground like she was burying it. She'd trot back to the kitchen ready for the next one, repeat it...then eat the last one. She saved the others to eat while my Dad was gone at work. I miss her.
we have a feral stray we took in and we have to keep her separated from our other cat b/c our other cat is very aggressive with her(both female.) We lock the other cat up in the master bedroom and den several times a day and let the feral have the run of the house. She goes crazy meowing before Jeopardy comes on so she can come out and sit with us for it.
I know this is far from unique, but the obsession that some dogs develop for chocolate is amazing. I had a dog who was almost poisoned to death by eating some, and it somehow turned him into an addict. If somebody dropped a piece and picked it up, he would lick that spot for a long, long time. My neighbor had some chocolate syrup drip into a glass base of their table, and their dog chewed through the glass to get to it. I think that a dog's obsession with something that is very bad for it is probably a metaphor for something people do, but I'll leave you to guess what I'm thinking about.

When he thinks it is time to watch, he jumps on a cofee table, looks at you and when you don't pay attention, he tries to jump to the place, where we hide remote controll. And when you switch a TV on, he jumps happily and he is able to watch / sleep whole match.
I had a cat that loved nursing on earlobes. She would crawl up your chest, hang out on your neck/shoulder while you're reclining and treat it just like a momma with the dough-kneading paws and all. Another one would nurse on stuffed animals that were similar color to her. Another cat loved getting shots more than anything in the world. She had INCREDIBLY thick skin that was so hard to get the needle through, but the harder you press, the louder she would purr. By the time you got the needle in, she was fast asleep from her 'massage'. We also had a cockatiel that would clean your teeth. Lie down or recline and he'll hike up your chest and expect you to open wide, then stick his head in and start flossing. My current cat once went undercover to investigate a group of deer. Her perfect disguise: tucked her tail between her legs, walked out to the group and strolled around with legs extended, poking her head down into the grass while slowly moving closer.
My very old grandma lived with our family. She was so frail we all held our breathes when she tottered around, half expecting her to fall over at any time. We also had a cat whose favourite game was to piss off grandma. The cat would hide behind the kitchen door and as grandma tottered past the cat would reach out one paw with one claw extended and just snag grandma's stocking. Grandma had so little strength, and no momentum she would just have to stand there anchored to the spot by the cat. We sort of though it was hilarious, but eventually we'd interfere and the cat would stroll off with a very self-satisfied smirk.
That made me laugh!! Poor Grandma. Cats can be such arseholes and yet, we absolutely love them for it!

My Baby Boy Kaylib, 95lb all muscle Rotti, Doberman, Shepherd mix who was the sweetest, loving, loyal dog that looked and barked extremely intimidatingly but was so far from intimidating, was so shy about taking a crap that he would either back his Butt up into the brush or bush and if we we on a walk he would get his body as close to a bush or brush, swing his back leg up and swing his butt into them to take a crap. Was difficult to fish it out if it was someone's property but I always did. And he would have his head over my shoulder investigating while I did.
We have 2 cats and a dog. If we don't close the bathroom door all three would come in. One cat will sit on the sink and stare at you, the other will jump in your lap, the dog will stare at you until you poop and then try to investigate what just happened while you are still sitting there. When that happens the cat in your lap will bitch slap the dog away. As soon as you reach for the paper the lap cat leaves. We now have a bidet toilet seat in the master and the lap cat insists on trying to reach for the water stream with her paw. It's literally a morning poop comedy show every day.
My cat loved to be vacuumed. If you were vaccuming he would lie in the way and meow loudly. If you didnt vacuum him, he would then gently swipe your leg and then lie in the way again. During being vacuumed, he would roll over when he was ready for his other side to be done
All these You-Tubers whose dogs "sing" by howling or whining should know that my dog learned how to bark... ON KEY. He always barked when the doorbells chimed, and got "good boys," and he eventually learned that sometimes, the doorbells would resonate with his bark. So... he learned to bark at the same pitch as the doorbells so they would chime in resonance with his bark!!!
"Singing" by howling or whining is usually because it hurts their ears and they want to drown it out. Sounds like yours is actually harmonizing, that's pawsome 👏😻👍

If we get more specific like "go get your rope/ball/kong" he'll bring that toy over to play. My cat refuses water from the bowl. Will only drink from the bathroom faucet. And will cry until you turn it on. He also likes to sit on my shoulders like a parrot. Our old cat (indoor/outdoor) figured out where in the house we usually were & used to knock on the window to come in.
My cat loves me to smack his backside. It's more over his hip really, but every time he gets snuggles (which is pretty much all the time) he insists on it. He used to like to be smacked pretty hard and would lean into it, if you stopped suddenly, he would fall over. He still insists on it, but being 14.5 years old, I don't do it very hard anymore. As a bonus, the last time I got a tattoo, the shop had a cat that loved to be spun on the stools artists sat on.

Load More Replies... I could write a book on all the cute quirky things my border collie does. She's crazy smart, so she's a great manipulator. She does all the usual tricks, of course: play dead, shake hands, speak etc. etc. but she also sneezes on command/for treats. She definitely understands when we talk to her. When she wants something, and you aren't sure what, we just ask: "what do you want?" And she'll look at it, i.e. the door to go out, the food if she's hungry, the bed if she wants up (she's getting old, so she needs help up. (Yes, we let her on the bed, she's special, lol) and she'll tell you exactly which way she would rather be walking. She'll silently groan that sounds like a dramatic, vocal sigh if she wants something and you aren't paying attention. Oh, there's so much more.
And another, about our bundle of happy hyperness, Ellie the Whoodle. (Wheaton Terrier/poodle cross) She loves going after balls in our backyard but will purposely push the ball under the gate to the front yard so she can’t reach it. She’ll then look at us piteously through the window and bark softly — imploring us to come outside and help this poor little doggie. She’s very patient, but if this doesn’t work she’ll move to tactic #2, which is bouncing super high in front of our window. I swear Whoodles are part kangaroo!
Our neighbour Sharon, several houses away, had a generally bonkers Siamese cat who stole clothes. I was wondering where all our socks were going. I mean, orphaned socks are a normal part of the laundry gig, but this was crazy. I finally found out that kitty was nonchalantly coming into our back door and bringing the socks home as presents for Sharon. Kind of like mice or birds, but I guess this kitty was vegan.😄 The cat then moved up to stealing clothes and leaving them in random places, such as up on my next door neighbour’s ladder. I finally caught her in the act, and she was slowly stalking the sock! She also liked to sleep under (parked!) cars, but lived a long life because we all loved her and checked under our cars. Miss her.
We had a cat that could tell time. When my husband was working, she would wake him up every morning. On weekends and after we retired, she would wake him up at that same time. He would point to the clock and say, "One hour." In one hour, she would wake him up again. She eventually figured out that he didn't want t hat wake-up call and stopped doing it.

Ooh, I have the perfect story. So we got a retired herding dog about 6 months ago (cattle herding, he’s had his fair share of injuries but then got hit by a car and can’t run as much anymore, so medical retirement). He is literally OBSESSED with the garage door opener. Like, I’m not kidding. He will bodyslam the screen door to get to the garage when you run it, then sprint in circles jumping and barking at the ceiling. And he can jump pretty high, this breed is supposed to be able to jump over cows, so at first we thought he was going for the safety switch pull string thingy, but apparently not. But even if you don’t run the door, he’ll just sit out in the garage staring at the ceiling for hours on end. We don’t even have to worry about him running away while it’s open, he will not move. It’s the funniest thing, but seems like not very good health-wise. I think our dog is addicted to the garage ceiling. It’s weird.
Oh, and also both of our cats like to eat the chicken feed off the ground. I don’t know why, they’re predators, not chickens. But we’re just glad they’re not eating the chickens. Although our boy cat likes to sit near the chicken coop birdwatching (we say he thinks they’re his “harem”), which is a little odd. The dog is the weirdest though, in addition to the garage door thing he also really, really likes cooked veggies. Like will jump up to try to eat them out of the bowl when we take food scraps to the chickens. There’s a few types he doesn’t like (leafy greens and asparagus are a couple), but squash and cauliflower are like his favorite foods. Particularly cauliflower. We thought it was because they were cooked with meat, but he loves them even when they were on a separate pan. He doesn’t like toys at all though unless they have food in them, so that’s another weird thing. Although working dogs usually don’t. He hasn’t quite figured out this whole “retirement” thing.
Load More Replies... I love these! I had a Manx named Joe. He had my 3 kids on a very strict shower/bedtime routine. Every night at 7 on the dot he would pick one child and meow while leading them to the bathroom. As soon as that child was done he would go to the next. Once showers were done he'd get them each in bed and give them a snuggle and then hang out with me until my bedtime. He had to sleep crushed up against my face with his paw around the back of my neck. I can't tell you how many times I woke up with his lips on mine! He crossed the rainbow bridge in August of 2020 at 20 years old and I'm still having trouble sleeping without him. He was 8 when I had my first child and I was so worried he would be jealous, but he was beyond patient and loving (and bossy, lol). Our cat Oliver claimed 3 teddy bears as his own and we find them in random places. Whenever a child has been in trouble or someone has had a bad day, we find a bear in the middle of that person's bed. I can't imagine not having animals!
Current cat HATES tuna with a passion but has been busted for stealing:5 bowls of mac&cheese,ribs,several slices of meatloaf,steak,chicken alfredo,socks, my unmentionables, my necklace ,my training clicker ,and at one point a fish food container.
My boi is fussy about cleanliness. When I rub my face on his silky-soft fur (those dives on his belly especially) he patiently bears with me and then he washes the spot thoroughly. Every time! He looks mildly disgusted but he'll let me do it again. Until one of us gives up. Guess who does.

I had a cat that loved to fly. Once I nearly fell over when he got in my way and I was so mad I picked him up to throw him "somewhere..." I saw my loft bed in the next room, so I hurled him into the next room up to the bed. He ran back down the ladder, tail straight up., and wanted to be thrown again. Every day after that until he passed, I had to throw him 4 or 5 times a day... across the room and up onto the loft bed
Meanwhile, my grandma picked up my cat from the outdoor table and tossed her off the second story deck… she was fine, fortunately.

We had a little black cat that loved to play the gauntlet game. I'd run down the hall and duck inside one of the rooms. She'd run to the start of the hall and crouch there for a moment waggling her bottom while trying to see where I'd pop out. Then she'd dash down the hall and try to get under the bed in the last bedroom without me tagging her. She seemed to love the surprise whenever I jumped out; then I'd chase her into the bedroom and try to reach her under the bed. After I thumped my hand near her a few times, she'd dash back into the living room and the game would start over. Miss that little puss!
When my puppy first died of eating a toad I will come back.Home and call poppy and spencer and only one dog comes running to me I remember still expecting to look out side while I’m eating my dinner and see the deck and than see the dogs eating dinner or sleeping but only one dog is there. My other dog that didn’t die is 8 years next year on saint Patrick’s day and it took him ages to go back to a bit of his usual self he wouldn’t eat or really move when I show him a picture of her he wines and I cry and we bring cuddle we miss her and when I was on the point on not believe it in Santa I put a letter in the mail box asking for her to come back. The next day it was gone and I went to tell my mum and she took me into her room and said she is sorry she took the letter she didn’t want me to get upset and a year later when I realised she isn’t coming back I knew Santa wasn’t real I was only 11 nearly 12. We go to the beach she loved on the first of December the day she died and she died 3 days before her birthday I miss her so much
My cat always makes sure I get home safe. When I go out (by bike or public transportation) and am on my way home she will meet me and come inside with me. When I am safely in she wants to be let back outside. Now that my son is old enough to go out she does the same with him.
One of ours, Poppy, is a total nightmare. So now the oldest Salem, has started correcting her behavior. Now he does this to the other 3 as well. If I yell at them more than once to quit it, Salem runs out of nowhere and whoops their ass.
