Did you know that only 1-2% of the world has naturally red hair? How about that less than 1% of the world’s population has heterochromia, or two different colored eyes? Did you know that the odds of having identical twins is about 3 in 1,000?

I was raised in the foster system until I was 18. I am alive, never been to jail, in a very successful career, own a house, and I am a great mother, and in a very happy marriage.
Good on you. I went into care too, my prospects weren't great either, I feel i've done ok, better than expected. We rock.
As someone who has adopted out of the foster system in Louisiana, I can tell you that this is incredibly rare.
That is odd. The foster care system sucks and most of the so called caregivers are grifters doing it for money or to indoctrinate children to their religion/cult.
Yeah, the indoctrination thing is creepy. I wanted to adopt out of foster care, still had to go through the foster training. No problem, totally worth it. The number of people asking how soon they could take their fosters to all the church things was creepy. Like they were super focused on it. The other thing that weirded me out were all the 'what if they disrespect me' questions. I'm sitting there thinking if you can't handle the disrespect of a traumatized child, why are you here? It was like they couldn't wait to indoctrinate them and punish them into perfection. It was just horrible.

I'm 32 years out from my liver transplant and one of the rare few to have been successfully weaned off immunosuppressants.
Idk it's been 32 years since a liver transplant. If he was anything north of 30 when it happened he could easily look like this handsome gentleman.
Load More Replies...It's so good to hear,I worked with transplant services and you are an exceptional case well done for taking care of the gift you were given😊
It's states he is 32 years out, meaning 32 years ago he had the transplant. I had to read it a few times. But if this is a photo of OP he should be a model. Looking good

On a sour note, I have multiple sclerosis. On a sweet note, I'm one of the rare cases where daily treatments have seemed to almost make my brain lesions disapear in my scans now. They went from very large to barely there, and some have even completely gone away. I'll still always have the condition and will still always need to live life on the low and slow/chill so as not to bring on a relapse, but so far I count myself blessed given how things can be with this disease.
This is incredible. I have MS and COVID made it more aggressive and now I'm in a wheelchair. But smiling! I'm absolutely thrilled to hear this!
That is great news, congrats. My husband and I both have MS. I would love to know which DMT you are taking daily. I'm on Tysabri, and while I haven't had new lesions for 16 yrs, my existing lesions are still there.
I am being tested now for MS, I had an MRI a few months ago and had one lesion on my MRI and some irregularities on my EEG and I am getting worse. I had another EEG yesterday and another MRI next month. I am terrified of getting this diagnosis, but reading this and the comments gives me hope. I am a hobby photographer that primarily does nature as well as small sessions for people, and I am afraid that having MS and it progressing while hinder my ability to hike for that because, aside from my family, photography is the one thing that brings joy to my life.
MS since aged 20, still working full time as a surgeon, mum of 2, survived COVID. Don't worry too much

My blood is both O- and CMV- meaning I can donate universally to both adults and babies.
Me too! Only 2% of the population are in this category - it means our blood usually goes to the premature baby ward.
the % does vary by country though - so in the States it's around 6% and UK is about 7% (worked for the National Blood Service in the UK so I get a bit geeky about this)
Load More Replies...Here is the explanation what CMV negative means. https://www.redcrossblood.org/local-homepage/news/article/why-cmv-negative-blood-is-so-important.html Long story short: almost everybody had Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and very few didn't.
Not to long ago I casually asked what my blood type was while they were taking tests, a quick look at the records showed no results for the blood type at all...I was surprised.
I've had the same experience, and this is what I learned: blood typing is a whole separate test, and a standard blood panel doesn't include it.
Load More Replies...Apparently that make us ( I'm one and so is my daughter) either angels or aliens depending who you believe. Unfortunately I can't donate anymore due to illness but was a proud blood forefront age 18 to 45
I had O- blood but during childbirth my blood changed to O+. I still give blood but it no longer goes to the baby wards. My last donation went to an oncology unit <3
Me too, I've been told that the reason for this is I descend from angels or aliens just for giggles. I actually had a major incident and almost bled out and was told by one of the nurses I was given some of my own blood back as well as donations from 16 others who I will never be able to thank enough, I'm still here 26 years on due to your selfless acts. I haven't been able to donate since then myself but I always tell my story to encourage others to fonate!
I am O - (negative) and I have donated 100 times already and plan to keep on donating until the Canadian Blood Donation says I can not.
I'm a survivor of human trafficking. Roughly .5% of the population is currently trafficked.
I'm so sorry for the unspeakable pain and trauma this individual had to endure. I truly hope that they have found peace.
Guys, please tell your kids to be safe online, in my country that's how they get them: convincing children that their families don't understand / love them and to run away, that they will help them. Also tell your children: "If someone tells you to go with them and not tell anybody, they have no good intentions, no matter what they say"
dont forget b aware of ur surroundings. alot of girls dont even get spoken to. they r followed for hours or even days before they r just snatched up. mystery vehicles that r suddenly always around and sketchy ppl going exactly the way ur going and keep up with ur pace. watch out for those. also for adult women if u notice anything weird on ur car drive to a police station instead of going home. chances r thats someone marking ur car and it best to tell police where it happened. also if u go to police instead of home whoever tagged ur car cant follow u home. everyone even guys should look up videos on the many things ppl will do to mark ur car.

It's terrifying how this happens. You may not even know what's really going on until it's too late.
I am glad that you are free and safe. My apologies if I said the wrong thing.
I am a Black woman (product of two Black parents) and I have both green eyes and blonde hair. Those dormant massa genes show up all over me!
It took me a second to realize what "massa genes" meant... I'm sorry your ancestor went through that while also being enslaved. People suck often times when they think they have power over others.
Haywood, I think we should stop burning witches! And let people I agree with have free speech!
Load More Replies...There are blonde and fair-eye genes indigenous to Subsaharan Africa.
While her explanation is likely correct, it isn't the only explanation. In the 18th and 19th century in Hell's Kitchen NY, it actually was not unusual to find consensual relationships and common law marriage between blacks and whites, and there ARE other examples of blacks and whites consensually having children. So, unless they know for a fact that's where the green eyes and blond hair came from (and, I don't know, they might), then they might not want to assume.
I would say that's fare more rare than from a white slaveowner.
Load More Replies...it's AAVE (African American Vernacular English) for Master. Where white slave owners would forcibly impregnate their female slaves
Load More Replies...This is very prevalent in my family. On my mother's side, the original ancestry is Haitian but they ended up in Monaco, assimilated easily because they spoke French & were light eyed/fair-haired. I did not know the term "massa genes" until I studied our history. I'm biracial so most people assume my blonde hair/ grey eyes are solely my dad but I have a whole bunch of relatives on both sides of all colors who are light hair/ light eyed. Not sure where I got the freckles though 🤔
The slavery thing in you're ancestery sucks but I bet you're gorgeous though...
Only 1% of couples experience recurrent miscarriages (3 or more). We are in that 1%!
On a positive note, we had a baby last year.
My sister has a friend who is in that 1%. She and her husband had 7 miscarriages before eventually having 2 daughters
I have x7 babies who grew up in spirit/heaven, one stillborn at 28weeks in 1987 - might have survived with current neonatal care, and was his soul’s choice/path, as with my other six xx
Load More Replies...Me, too. Four pregnancies. One baby. I'm so sorry this happened to you, and I'm so glad you have your rainbow baby!
Congratulations that is really awesome for you to have a baby despite miscarriages
There was a case in Ireland recently where a couple had 23 miscarriages over a 19 year period, their 20 year old son now has a sibling. https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/she-is-our-little-miracle-cork-mother-gives-birth-to-baby-girl-after-23-miscarriages/a1024428513.html
Me too (5) never had any. Congratulations to you. Cherish this gift.
Similar, x7 babies didn’t have live births, from four natural pregnancies incl twin and triplet girls xx Was a youth worker, sports coach and teacher, so had children in my life but not my own or a partner’s. Acquired spinal injury at work prevented me being allowed to adopt or foster. Did you have children in your life, as relatives/nieces/ nephews etc? All the best xx
Load More Replies...After having one child my wife suffered through 4 miscarriages. It turned out that she has a genetic condition called balanced translocation which we learned about through genetic testing when she was able to have another child. The new boy has the same condition which means he and his new wife will have the same problem having kids. You might want to have your new baby tested for this condition.
My hair started going grey at 13. By the time I was 23 it was completely white.
This actually sounds quite cool, if it was making you feel bad. You look like a grandmaster from an anime, and you can just go 'The lecturer is over there. I'm the student', when people approach you.
I got a job at my university my freshman year over a girl in my class with premature greying. I’m pretty sure it was the gray/white hair, cuz I overheard the staff talking about it. Colored my approach to REALLY dressing up for interviews from then on. No class, mentor, parents, or anyone could have made me dress up back then. Outer appearances matter, and apparently ppl don’t like graying hair.
Load More Replies...I started turning grey in my early teens after a traumatic time at home. By the time I was 22, I was 100% silver. Dyed it for years and then made the fortuitous decision in Dec 2019 that I would never dye it again. Stuck with it through the pandemic and now wear my unusual hair as a survivor’s badge of honour.
I'd rather this than salt'n pepper hair forever that I really dont like 🙄 I would prefer all silver/titanium instead!
I'm jealous, I love dying my hair purple and it's miserable bc mine is really dark. Luckily, I'll probably start going grey at 18
I'm 76 and my hair is still brown except for a weird white fountain right at the top. I dye my hair purple, and it is a little extra 💜 work to do that. Wish it would hurry up and turn white, so I can go lavender without bleaching it out completely.
Load More Replies...Mine happened a little later - started going grey at 16, nearly completely white by late-30s. And it's hereditary in my family - my Mom started going grey at 16 and so did her Mom. We all have beautiful white hair just I color mine crazy colors all the time. Definitely makes it'd easier to color when you don't have to bleach!

I was in foster care and graduated law school. Foster children are statistically less represented then any race group or disability group in college, let alone law school.
I spent most of my childhood in foster care from 6 to 18 years old. My foster home was in the ghetto in Milwaukee (52306 area code). I earned a BA Degree and MDIV Degree...
I don‘t know how good or bad the system is in Germany (where I lice), but my coworker went through hell from the sounds of it (horrible parents, racist foster parents….) and he is studying to be a doctor now.
You have my sincere respect. I'm from Oakland, CA, where I thought I'd seen ghettos...until I went to Milwaukee to visit my husband's family. That's where I saw what a real ghetto looks like.
My brother moved to Milwaukee from CA (LA) and I agree!
Load More Replies...Well, that could be due to the fact that being a foster is neither a disability, sickness or race.
Being fostered isn't a race or a disability group, what amazing intelligence we produce out of America.......,.
Why are foster kids less represented? That doesn't make any sense to me. Sincerely a german
Disclaimer of not all foster families, but a lot of people who foster don't give the kids a good grounding in things they need to know for life. They are paid by the government to foster and the payments end when the child turns 18. Very frequently the child is then kicked out of their house with nowhere to go and not enough knowledge to make it on their own. Group homes also have dismal outcomes for the children they have. In all cases the education the child receives is typically very poor and frequently interrupted or disjointed by the child being moved from home to home
Load More Replies...I was in foster care and graduated medical school! I was there one day talking about my foster sister. They responded, "Did she break your mother's heart?" I was like - ??? if the OP has any form of alexa in their home then they have but not directly. u can get an alexa device at best buy, walmart watever store that sells that.
Load More Replies...I will not judge people for using Amazon, I simply am against online buying with exceptions. I work in retail, and when I worked at a huge store during covid, I would get order for 1 pair of socks or similar. I worry about what side effects that causes in our world. I also work in a mall in Minnesota, the one Mall Rats was filmed in. The malls are dying and they used to be part of the community. I actually had a customer tell me they haven't been to the mall in years. But due to bad air quality, she chose to go to the mall. That was a loaded statement.
I have 20/10 vision. Almost 50% better than 20/20 and in the top .05% of people. I actually have incredibly accurate night vision as well.
I had 20/10 vision in my youth and excellent night vision. I miss it!
Man I'm 37 and my glasses are so thick now I can no longer safely drive a car wearing them, has to be contacts or everything bends and they're still getting worse and even with lasik I would still need corrective lenses🤓
IDK what the statistics are for myopic vision greater than -12, but that would be me. I had PRK which greatly improved my vision. I got away with no glasses for a few years, but as you know, if you're myopic, your vision just keeps getting worse your whole life. Still really glad I did it.
Load More Replies...I had congenital cataracts and didn't find out about it until my 30s. I've already had cataract removal surgery. With that said, don't ever be afraid of cataract surgery if you need it. It caused me a bit of anxiety but it was the easiest thing I've ever done. Not even a little scary. It was actually relaxing. I felt like my eyes we're getting a soothing warm bath and I saw all these crazy looking lights.
IDK what his vision is exactly but I made my husband get his eyes checked because I go every year (nearsighted since youth) and he was better than 20/20, but now he is getting older and needs reading glasses and he gets so frustrated because he can't read stuff - he was used to having perfect vision so it's been really hard to adjust.
I was slimed on Nickelodeon when I was a kid. I have never met another person in real life who can say this.
at a kid who grew up watching Nickelodeon, this is like being a celebrety
My son, years ago, when he was 12, sat in the 3rd row at the kids choice awards and was completely covered in slime!
I called in to get someone slimed in the 90s. Maybe it was you!
I got brought up on a stage when I was about 4 years old at Universal studios nickelodeon! I don't remember exactly what it was we were doing some sort of nickelodeon tour or something and they asked for a volunteer and they actually picked me outta all the raised hands!!! I was so excited lol. They had me taste slime and gak, apple sauce and pudding lol. Was an amazing memory thanks for that!!!
My son was slimed as a kid! He was picked out of the audience and loved it
Nickelodeon had a special show/exhibit at Dollywood in pigeon forge, TN, USA about 20 years ago and i was chosen to go on stage to do a game and i was slimed at the end. Very cool experience.
I have prosopagnosia (faceblindness), a mild form. I think this is actually more common than people think, but some people don't know they have it. I didn't figure it out until I was like, 35. You just go through your life thinking you're a dumdum who's not paying attention, or not realizing that other people can recognize faces well.
I was also the first woman in the world to do my specific job.
I have the same and also struggle with names. I tend to memorise details (facial hair, accents or hairstyles) to get anywhere. Luckily, people are supportive.
Me too! I also forget what people look like if I haven't seen them in a long time. It's really embarrassing running into people I graduated high school with. I used to think that face blindness meant not having any ability to recognize faces, I was in my 30's when I found out it's not all or nothing, and that it is a spectrum.
Load More Replies...I didn't know this was a condition. I have trouble recognizing people out of context. Like, I will recognize that I should know them, but I can't place them. An example would be when I was shopping at Costco and a woman approached me. She looked very familiar. I knew that I somehow knew her, but I had no idea from where. As we're talking she mentions the kids and their upcoming soccer game and that's when it clicks. This is a woman I saw three times a week at soccer, and who I talked to regularly.. at soccer. I had only just seen her days before. But because we were not at soccer, I couldn't place her. I've also had some interesting encounters with a couple of celebrities because I didn't recognize them out of context. I live in a celeb heavy town and joke all the time that I probably see them every day and don't know it.
I found her reply on reddit: "A Tesla mobile technician. There were plenty of other lady techs working at service center before me, but I was the first on mobile service (house calls)."
Load More Replies...I´m an almost super-recognizer (top 5%, you have to be in the top 1%), but it´s not helpful when you have a shite memory for names. I can recognise people even with heavy prosthetics.
this is me! i work in law enforcement and can recognize and remember peoples faces, places, stuff and details about what i saw really well ... but ask me their name or the name of the street or the business..... meh. Maybe 50% chance
Load More Replies...Anyone who's got the opposite condition? Super recognizers here?
It’s a gift! My dad was a super recognizer. The most amazing time was when he —at 83 years old— successfully identified another elderly woman in a random McDonald’s as a childhood neighbor. My dad hadn’t seen her since they were both 10 years old living in a different city and a different state… 73 years earlier of course. The woman burst into tears when she realized who my dad was and that he had recognized her. (Meanwhile I’m 100% face blind)

I can bench 405lbs naturally with no support or spotter or same but 315 for 10.
Please don't downvote, I know it feels braggy but I'm so proud of this.
Edit to add, I weigh 200lbs.
No that I speak gym bro, but I think it means he can bench press twice his bodyweight, or do 10 repetitions of one and half times his bodyweight. I struggle to lift my own body, let alone any weights.
Load More Replies...Good for you! Please, brag away! This is an accomplishment you worked really hard for and people should celebrate you, not tear you down for being proud of an accomplishment.
405lbs is awesome and congrats for breaking the 400-barrier! When I was at my peak in my 20s, Ive "only" manage to top out at 375lbs (170kg) but the one I brag about is a 6 reps at 352lbs (160kg). I think I managed that one mostly because I misstook two weight plates so I thought I was lifting 330lbs and got angry because it felt heavier than usuall.
you have the right to be proud of this! theres a fine line between bragging and not bragging, but still, don't be afraid to be proud of yourself
These words are almost meaningless to me but upvote because that sounds like commitment.
I have a family member who was a 9/11 first responder. He is listed among the fallen, having developed an inoperable brain tumor secondary to exposure to the toxic materials.
I have mixed feelings about this one. I’m so grateful for the first responders, and I do cry for losses as well
This is a heart breaker. City and state officials knew there was tons of asbestos in those buildings. Rescue and demo workers should have been provided with better protective gear.

My brother’s friend from Marquette University, Daniel Song, was at work in one of the towers 😞
On election day (if you're in the US) remember which party it was that voted almost unanimously to cut off medical care and support for the brave people who were there when they were needed.
In reference to the young person who asked about this, I find it very sad that young people are not taught about 9/11. I'm from the Uk and I had to educate my younger sister about it (she is now almost 26) and I have also educated my own children about the September 11th attacks. This was an act of war a truly horrific day not just for Americans but for people worldwide who witnessed it in real-time on the news. I grew up to be quite cold but when I came home from work I was 17, I put on the tv and it was on every channel. I watched it and cried, I had no control over it, I was not hysterical or anything but it was involuntary, I just had tears come from no where. It was suddenly a very scary wake up call to the horror of what other humans are capable of. I can't imagine what loved ones of those who were lost must feel. This should not be lost in history. It should be taught in schools, we learned about the world wars, so why not this??
can someone explain this 9/11 thing? i quite literally live under a rock.
Honest question: how come you do not know about 9/11? Are you very young? The whole world knows about 9/11. My school was suspended that day. And we talked about it so much afterwards. (In Germany). At least the western world changed that day.
Load More Replies...Fun fact! I might not have been born if my mom thought it was gonna be fine going on the plane to 9/11, she almost went on it 😰
My dad was offered a position to be a medic on a swat team going to the twin towers.

I have Aphantasia, the inability to picture things in my mind.
This is much more common than we realize. Evidently, 3% of all people in the world have this.
Me too. I only learnt that people can really see things in their mind last year. Also some people really can stop thinking - I always failed that part of meditation.
I can't stop thinking either, it's exhausting sometimes.
Load More Replies...This feels similar to the poor people who don't hear a voice narrating their thoughts

Load More Replies...I fall in a strange area, I can't visualise while I'm awake but when I sleep I dream and I know I'm "seeing" everything. I actually discovered I had this 2 years ago from a Bored Panda post. Back then they estimated 8% of the population had this. Since then more people are learning about it and realising they have it. I have no enjoyment from books anymore, I had no idea people could see in their heads what they are reading.
I don't "see in my head" what I'm reading, but I still enjoy books.
Load More Replies...I may have this, or a mild version. I cannot picture things I have never seen. Hubby wants to move the couch to the other wall? I have no idea what it will look like, if it will fit, or what the heck we are going do with the stuff that is already there! Oh, put it where the couch was? Okay. I'll just have to wait to see what it looks like.
Interestingly, I’ve definitely got aphantasia but also very good spatial reasoning. So even though I can’t “see” what a couch will look like against a particular walk, I can usually tell at a glance if it’ll accurately fit there. I think like a lot of mental things it’s a bit of a spectrum ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Load More Replies...i know someone who has this and i cant imagine it! I can taste, feel , smell, see, and hear in my mind so i really cant imagine this
Same. All I have to do is think about a taste, touch, scent, sight, or sound and my brain causes me to re-experience the sensation. The only drawback I've ever noticed is that I daydream a lot. It helps a lot with creative endeavors.
Load More Replies...I know someone who has this. Frustrating to explain fantasy and cartoons, they cannot read books about things that are not real-life situations. But they are hyper-curious about how simple things work, like a sewing machine, or the way wheels rotate to move forward.
Don't feel too bad about this. Some people think in images. But that's not always fun either. For those not having your problem: try to imagine Donald Trump in a speedo....🤮

They are primary cancers, all new events. Probably different types of breast cancer (ductal carcinoma in situ, lobular, invasive ductal carcinoma).

I have the sleep habits of a newborn baby - my life is a series of naps, and I sleep when I sleep and I’m awake when I’m awake and it has no connection to day or night. It also means I’m always tired. I’m also bipolar so the amount of sleep I manage to get in a day is inconsistent.
EDIT: I just remembered another one. I have duck feet that are caused by femoral retroversion (the angle of my femur and hip bones is off, which means my legs are rotated further out than normal), which is a pretty rare cause for duck feet. It also causes very bad flexibility issues in my ankles and hips.
That's a terrible condition to have along with bipolar disorder. Irregular sleep is known for triggering manic episodes. (I learned this the hard way.)
I'm on 3 meds for bipolar and have to also take a special me to control night tremors. And if you've never experienced a night tremor, it makes your nightmares look like a happy place.
Load More Replies...Same here. End result is/was "Sleep Onset Insomnia". Did sleep studies, meds, CBT, blah, blah, nothing. Get this book if you have sleep issues: https://fast-asleep.com/. Humans don't have one CR, they have several. Each major body system has its own. And none of them are naturally 24 hours and they're not naturally in sync. Author discusses this and how you can address it w/o drugs. As long as I keep it up, I'm good. If I don't, it takes about 2-3 weeks to get things working again.
I too have no circadian rhythm but, no other health problems. I sleep when I'm tired, the problem is that I don't get tired very often. However, when I do sleep I sleep like the dead, nothing will wake me and I can easily sleep for 12 hours. It's a pain in the a**e.
Is this proven? How? Not being pugnacious, just wondering. I have a diagnosis of ME, but my circadian rhythm seems to bed all over the place and I wonder if there is a way to test. (I have low morning cortisol, no melatonin testing done.) My record “ME coma” is 96 hours, didn’t even surface for the bathroom.
Load More Replies...My wife had no real sleeping pattern. She was taking 400mg of amitriptyline (tranquilizer) a night, dropping Benadryl on top of it, and would still wake up 2 hours later.
Amitriptyline isn’t a tranquiliser. It’s a tricyclic antidepressant.
Load More Replies...That sounds super sucky. I'm pretty new here, do you upvote bad luck stories? Feels kinda wrong.
I upvote everything interesting. Also, please don't downvote opions as long as they are not insulting ect in any way. Thank you and welcome on board the panda ship!
Load More Replies...I have this. Irregular sleep wake plus sleep apnea. I can be awake for 24-30 hours… sleep for 5 hours. Then be awake for 11 hours then sleep for 6 hours. Makes it hella worse when pain from anklosing spondylitis, scoliosis, degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis keep me awake too. I am on disability now but when I was working… I had 3 alarms and still had someone wake me. Lived on caffeine pills at work. Always have been like this… even high school it was difficult adjusting my sleep correctly to sleep at night and be awake during the day. Even taking diphenhydramine and melatonin at night didn’t help me sleep at night. Now that I don’t go to work because of my disability…l let my body sleep whenever it wants to and stay awake when it wants to. I always thought I was just lazy or a deep sleeper but after three sleep studies…..I was diagnosed with an irregular sleep wake cycle. It really blows sometimes.
I'm slew footed. As a newborn until 2, I slept with my feet in shoes that were nailed to a wooden board in an attempt to straighten my feet. My feet went almost completely sideways. Because of this, my ankles turn in, I'm completely flat footed, hips turn slightly forward & my knees and ankles hit each other if my feet point forward. I had to do exercises for years - 200 each morning and night of going from standing regular to on my toes - to develop an arch in my feet. Later in life, I found out my degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis were possibly brought on by the way I stand and walk.
The duck feet are not that rare. Same here. Got me out of the draft (army) though
Lucky duck! Though I think OP was saying the *cause* of his duck feet was rare, not the condition itself.

Allergic to fermented alcohol (wine, beer, cider).
My Dad is allergic to alcohol, found out when he was in the hospital with meningitis. This was back in the '50s, and because his fever was so high, the doctor recommended an alcohol rubdown to try to reduce his temperature. Dad quickly started puffing up and having difficulty breathing, so they immediately washed it off, but the doctor told him if he hadn't already been in a hospital, he might not have made it to one. ( This was long before EpiPens were a thing. )
Had a former co-worker with this. He was in the military stationed overseas in an area where alcohol was strictly controlled. Everyone had a beer ration, including him. He said he made a ton of money selling his to fellow airmen.
I just don't like it so my travel buddy for conferences always gets my drink tickets

I am allergic to alcohol, but fine with vinegar and citrus fruit which contain high levels of tyramine.
Load More Replies...I've clinically died twice.
my friend shouldve died 10 times already. she ended up in a bunch of medical textbooks bc logically she shouldnt b alive. struck by lightning, brutal shark attack, hit by a car went flying 100 feet u name it it probably happened to her. 10 times however is how many times she has been pronounced legally dead. for obvious reasons i wont say her name since only ppl who kno r me, her family, my family and her doctors. i nicknamed her grim and her response was "i feel like a superhero now with a nickname like that." at least shes positive about it. its horrifying tho the first 4 times pronounced dead 5 to 30 min later we hear "wat happened". she wakes up like she just snapped out of a seizure or something. the 5th to 10th time we kinda just waited before reacting. we knew chances were shed ask wat happened and where she was. shes an extreme clutz so i worry about her alot. she hasnt had an incident since before covid so that a plus. i think in total tho shes had over 100 accidents that should have killed her throughout her 33 years alive. 1 of them i experienced with her but i did get less injured. we were snowboarding on a private mountain property her aunt owns and got caught in an avalanche. i got out with 2 broken arms, a broken leg and a couple of cracked ribs. my friend was like a rubber doll. most of her bones were broken. her spine was completely fine. her skull had a fracture, her arms and legs broken in multiple places, pretty much ever rib broken, hips fractured she was a mess. she had to get full body skeletal reconstruction. took her 3 years before she could walk again. it wouldve been 2 but she got restless and started zooming around in her wheelchair and forgot about the stair case and ended up going right down and face planting.
damn. even im not that clumsy lol.
Load More Replies...It’s not as cool as some people think. Same goes for being legally dead. Any time without oxygen messes with the mind. MRI says there’s nothing wrong, but the mind is not the brain or body. Not me, but an old friend who has since passed of something unrelated to the original.
Me too. Then I was put in a medically induced coma for ten days. One year anniversary coming up next month (July).
I’ve heard of a guy who died, won the lottery, died again, and then won the lottery again. Something like that, I don’t remember it well
theres a guy who survived the impossible did the lottery won then it happened again so he played the lottery again and won again. mayb thats the guy ur thinking of
Load More Replies...No, you haven't. You may have had no heart rhythm, but you're not clinically dead until the brain ceases to function, which takes some time, and after which there is no way back.
my friend begs to differ. she was legally dead 10 times. shes in medical textbooks bc she has gone completely brain dead and everything and then its like someone presses a reset button bc all 10 times she doesnt remember wat happened. she also survives situations that should kill a person. over 100 times. due to legal issues in the past i cant say her name or give u extremely detailed info about her personally but ive been friends with her my whole life and present for most of her accidents. she was harassassed quite a bit wen word got out about her. she was in the news etc but her parents sued all news sources and had the stories pulled. this was wen the internet wasnt really a thing yet. basically she has legal protection to protect her identity wen something happens to her.

I have retrograde cricopharyngeus dysfunction.
Meaning, I am physically unable to burp.
I would hate this. I was a celebrated, gifted belcher in university (am a petite female, it was both disgusting and hilarious)
Did you make bar bets with guys? I got a lot of free beer for out belching guys.
Load More Replies...So when they have gas, do they just suffer while it moves through the entire digestive tract? That sounds painful.
Jeez this must cause you all kinds of issues and dietary restriction??? Sounds miserable! Hope you can still fart
My dad has it and he takes medication that helps. And yes, he absolutely can fart. He's quite gifted at it. :)
Load More Replies...It actually causes excessive flatulence, since the built up gas has to go somewhere. Thankfully Botox injection helps 80-90% of patients, but has to be done under general anesthesia.
My dad takes medicine to help, but he does fart constantly. Actually my brother farts constantly too but he doesn't have the condition - he's just gross. :)
Load More Replies...My dad has this too. It's the weirdest thing! Especially because the rest of the family are champion burpers. :) It's hilarious to see him try - he opens his mouth and makes a "waaah" sound but nothing comes out. LOL! Dad takes something called Iberogast to help with it. His sister has the condition as well, so I guess it can run in families.
Genuine questions does it hurt when gas builds up? Do you feel like you need to burp you just can't? Or does the other end take care of everything? Sorry this is interesting to me 😆
My dad has it, and he takes medicine to help with the gas build up. And yes, he tries to burp but nothing comes out. It's kind of funny. :)
Load More Replies...I wonder if I have it? I never, ever burp, although I've tried(and comically failed). I've had friends explain how to "build it from your gut" or so they say....and still nothing even close. I don't understand how people drink stuff JUST to produce a burp? I don't get it..... I also get extremely painful bloating occasionally....I wonder....??
A buddy of mine has this, just had a procedure done to correct it. Only partially worked, so they're repeating it in a few months.
Reading the comments I had a picture in my mind of the release valve they stab into cows with bloat (people who watch Dr. Pol will know what I mean)

When I was 15, I got the measles - my county hadn't seen it in over 30 years. And yes, I had my MMR vax.
The comments are a very common misconception regarding Vaccines. Getting a Vaccine is not a guarantee against never getting the illness. It is a desired outcome but is not really the fully anticipated outcome. Rather a Vaccine is designed to increase your resistance to an illness so you don't die or suffer serious consequences. It is perfectly reasonable to still "get" the illness you are vaccinated against. What IS supposed to always happen is the illness is sufficiently muted that you don't notice or again suffer any consequences (like blindness which can happen with Measles).
Load More Replies...Vaccination doesn't prevent the disease, it just makes it less serious if you do contract it.
Always remember, if you’re going to use a thermometer rectally and orally, do the oral first !
At least YOU can get the MMR vaccine. Because of myelodysplasia, it would be like injecting a healthy person with live MMR germs.
I can shoot water out of the corner of my left eye.
My sister can blow bubbles out of both her eyes (obviously while submerged in water, not like she's she's blowing bubbles while just casually walking down the street.)
they would make it extra cool if she could do it walking down the street.
Load More Replies...I have read this multiple times and always had a genuine question- is it fun to squirt or annoying/irritating?
Load More Replies...My sister can do this out of both her eyes. She will cry in your direction if she is mad at you while crying so that she soaks you with her tears
I remember seeing someone do this with milk out of both eyes lol, pretty crazy. Closest I can do is "gleek". Not sure if that's a known term, or specific to where I grew up, but it's when you squirt saliva from the two ducts under your tongue (easiest to do when eating candy or something sour)
I survived a cardiac arrest.
Not funny. A cardiac arrest means your heart stops.

Me too! Dropped Dead in the company bathroom, if it were not for a file clerk who came in a few moments later and gave me CPR I would 100% be dead.....2 days later open heart surgery. BTW - at the time I was cycling about 100+ miles week....
My cousin was running a marathon type race (I forget exactly what it was) and he collapsed due to a massive heart attack and likely only survived because he was running near a cardiac nurse. He has had several more mini events since the big one and broke the record in our family for youngest to have a heart attack (my family genes in my mum's side f*****g suck so I'm praying my dad's side with his family's long a*s lifespan have taken over in me, I'm roughly a decade away from the "kick of" age for the issues that have occurred with my mum's cousins and family, little scary)
I had shingles while pregnant, which is very rare. Lucky for me, pregnancy turns down the intensity, I was able to avoid painkillers altogether, but still had open wounds on my back.
Shingles hurt. I'm 55 and have lost count of how many times I've had shingles. My go-to technique to manage them is to cover the blisters if possible, with those adhesive dressings that stay on for a week - stops clothing etc from rubbing & hurting.
Have you had the vaccine? I had an extremely mild case by my eye, years ago. I seem to have had everything before the vaccine...which I have now had.
Load More Replies...Yikes! An old friend of mine had it a few years ago, in her 30s. I'm planning to ask my GP if I can get the vaccine early; I have vague memories of chicken pox, and they're bad. I do NOT want shingles. Contrast with my mom, who refuses to get it. Someone told her they came down with it because of the shot, and she fixated on that. *sigh*
I'm sorry about your mum , it's probably that the person already had the virus when they got the vaccine. A dear friend of mine died two weeks ago, she had refused the vaccine, and after getting several infections one after the other, she got shingles and that caused organ shutdown
Load More Replies...I had shingles in my left eye when I was in my 30s. I didn't even know this was a thing. It happened after I had cataract surgery in that same eye. The medication for it was incredibly expensive. I took a pill and had to put a cream in my eye. The medications cost about $1,000, and yes, I'm in the USA.
Not to be that person, but how long ago was this? If you had cataract surgery in your 30's, the after care eye drops could have been the expensive medication. Cream isn't put into the eye, only eye drops and ointment. A steroid eye drop for shingles is around $54 without insurance and you can get the tablets for around $25-$30, also without insurance. I'm a pharmacy tech, that's why I'm asking. I want people who may have certain medical issues go and seek help, not fearful of not being to afford medications, only making their condition worse.
Load More Replies...Got shingles at 34. It was a nightmare, over a year later I still have nerve pain, I'm hoping it isn't permanent but very well may be. I've learned how to control my stress better now so I'm hoping I never get it again.
I got hives while pregnant with my second kiddo, It was NOT FUN! I fell asleep on my SIL's granny square bedspread and my hives took on the pattern! OMG it itched so bad!
Shingles is awful! I had it first as a little girl, this was before the vax, and I got the chicken pox. Then I got it last summer, I was 56. First I thought it was a spider bite, then poison ivy, but it just kept going down my face, shingles never occurred to me, then I showed a friend, he was like you have shingles! When they it burns, it burns so bad!!! And itches. It lasted all summer. So glad it is gone, but I do have scars on my face from it
I had shingles in my late twenties despite having chicken pox as a child. It was absolutely horrible and I still get an occasional shot of nerve pain.
You can only get shingles IF you have had chicken pox, or at least were exposed even if you did not break out.

I do too. Because of nerve damage in my right eye due to a badly detached retina 10 years ago
Not really a statistic, but I use my mouse backwards. Like facing the wrong way sorta thing. My mother taught me when I was young and I didn't realize it was wrong until like, middle school.

Load More Replies...That’s roughly a 0.5% probability (birthdays are not a uniform distribution). Not a very rare statistic.
I mean this is kinda related but my birthday is on April fools day. It was a scheduled C-section. On top of that, my birth certificate says the second somehow!
I was born on 19.08 and my brother together with our father were born on 20.8. Triple birthday!
I know that what you 'do' on New Years Eve can pop out 9 mos later - I was born on 9/30, so I 'know' what my folks did, and then my son was born on 10/1. Hard to deny the fun that was had to celebrate the new year. hehe
I'm an identical twin and me and my twinsister gave birth on the same day.
I have 4 to 5 forms of synesthesia and one of them only occurs in 1-4 % of the population
Ooh, that sounds cool! Could you elaborate for me? Can you, like, see sounds, or associate certain things with certain colours?
Load More Replies...I have cross-dominance, which is a 1% prevalence. Very commonly mistaken for ambidexterity, it is where you have different hand dominance for different tasks. I used to be ambidextrous in my writing but my primary school forced me to use one or the other because I was confusing the teachers. I now use a pen left handed but a mouse right handed. I use a fork right handed but chopsticks left handed. To go to the fun point, I use a longbow left handed and a sword right handed, so if I have to switch to sword I have to drop the bow because it's in my right hand =.=
I'm not sure what the difference is between the two is. I'm left-handed and right-footed. My left hand is for fine motor skills like writing, drawing, knitting, etc. My right hand/arm is for things requiring strength. And there are some things I can do with either hand, like ironing or stirring.

It can get annoying when the antics of the numbers and letters conflict with the real world. Google for a test to see where you are on the synesthesia spectrum.
I have a couple of things. The double row of eyelashes which isn’t that rare but saves me from mascara. And I metabolise medication supremely fast. Local anaesthetic is noticeably fast. As in my dentist has to readminister 3 or 4 times for one filling, my dermatologist 3 times for a mole removal. Most of my family (maternal) are the same. But it doesn’t work with weight. I wish!
One side of my body is dramatically smaller than the other. My right leg is about 2 inches shorter, my right arm is closer to 3 inches shorter, right down to my hands and feet. Weirdest thing is that no one noticed until I was nearly 40, (aside from the hands, and feet which I noticed) even though I have always had a strange walking gate and burned thru shoes like crazy.
