I raised an abandon raccoon from about 10 days old. She was an awesome pet. She insisted on sleeping in the same bed (would crawl under the blankets for a while, then sleep on the pillow on top of my head). She litter box trained herself in about 5 days. She would ride my shoulders while I vacuumed, and went to the store on a leash sometimes. She loved grapes and hunting for herring in the bathtub. Like a cross between a cat and a monkey, she was adorable and smart!

Just have to say, because I was an epidemiologist at a health department in an area with a surprising amount of people with pet raccoons. Raccoons are TERRIBLE pets. They WILL get into anything they want. They are very good problem solved, so even if you try really hard to do something to keep them out, they'll most likely figure it out. Also, they go wherever they want, which means getting outside, wandering around, and coming back. They are one of the more common vectors of rabies, especially transmitting it to people who have them as pets. They will have it, and can pass it to you before showing symptoms. I'd they ever bite you, it's recommended to get treated immediately, just in case, because if you do contract rabies, once you start showing symptoms, it is too late and nothing else can be done for you. I had to deal with a person who had a pet raccoon that they took too bars and stuff in the area. The raccoon appeared to have contracted rabies, due to behavioral changes, but the only way to truly know is an autopsy of the animal. This resulting in many people, even just some individuals out at bars, having to go through rabies treatment as a precaution, and we never found out if we managed to protect everyone because the "owner" wasn't very cooperative, and actually "hid" the raccoon until it died, because of it had rabies, she wanted it to die with people out knew. She also didn't know everyone who had contact, and was not able to provide, with certainty, everyone who may have been bitten, which means she may have caused the death of one or more people because she wanted to have a raccoon. Btw, rabies is a TERRIBLE way to die. As your brain is destroyed, you get more and more confused, scared, and angry, until eventually, your body starts shutting down. PLEASE DO NOT try to have a raccoon as a pet. This has been a PSA.

Rabies shot dude. Even raccoons can get them. Dont spread false truth fears. They don't automatically get rabies. They would have to get bit by something with rabies which means rabies would need to be prevalent in your area. Also the raccoon wouldn't spread it to just anyone it would only be to those he bit. Raccoons are not evil vectors. I hope your paranoia doesn't make people start killing them on sight out of fear.

This store is negligent in allowing this. This is a store that sells food. I wonder what the Health Department has to say about this. I recently saw a boa constrictor around someone's neck in a Walmart produce department in Michigan. Yes, I reported it to the customer service desk. I don't know what, if anything was done about it. Meanwhile, the photos themselves have to meet a certain standard of quality, too. The mod team asks its members to only share sightings that are unique and interesting.

Of course, weirdness might be a tad subjective, but you can get a sense of what’s expected of you when you browse the sub.

On top of that, all of the sightings have to be done in public. The members of the community also have to keep all of their discussions civil and respect one another if they want to continue being a part of r/peopleofwalmart.

Reuters recently reported that Walmart is changing how its hourly starting wage structure works for entry-level store employees. This is done in order to reduce costs in a slowing job market.

What this essentially means is that store workers, including cashiers, personal shoppers, stockers, self-checkout helpers, and associates manning departments such as sporting goods or electronics will all receive the same hourly starting wages that are paid at the store.

Reuters notes that Walmart pays its employees different starting wages depending on where the store is based. “For example, workers in the Northeast start at higher rates compared to the Midwest,” the news agency notes. Hatfield said that the new wage structure will not change Walmart’s minimum hourly wage, which currently stands at $14. Nor, the spokesperson said, will this result in pay cuts for existing employees.
