Museums are so much fun, it’s ridiculous that it’s not against the law. We absolutely love walking (remember, no running!) down the corridors of art galleries, as well as science and history museums. But while we’re absorbing all of that knowledge and human genius, we also remember to have a spot of fun. This article is all about that.
Our team here at Bored Panda has curated this list of those glorious moments when people had tons of fun at museums. Have a scroll and stroll down our digital gallery and remember to touch the art as much as you’d like. Oh, and if you have a favorite museum, why not let us know all about it in the comments? For instance, we’re huge fans of the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

This Art Completes Me
Even though we’re major fans of museums, we also understand that not everyone is. Hopefully, this list will change your mind. Some people find museums intimidating. Boring. Even snooty. But that’s far from the case in our experience.
Good museums make art, history, and science approachable and enjoyable. There’s nothing to be gained by turning someone away. And there’s everything to gain by sparking joy and curiosity in someone’s heart. In short, learning is a lot of fun. But teaching? There’s something even more magical there.

One way to spread awareness and interest in art and history is through memes on social media. One successful example of this is the ‘Classical Damn’ Instagram account. Bored Panda recently spoke to the founder of the project who found a lot of success when they mixed classical paintings with modern captions.
In short, the memes made classical art very relatable because they touched on topics that we all care about. From relationships and coronavirus to politics and religion.

"Even though the paintings are hundreds of years old, their expressions and captions make it seem they are one of us," they told Bored Panda.
"In my opinion, art and art history can be made more accessible by increasing public access to art spaces. Instagram has done a tremendous job in this by providing a platform to artists, content creators, and curators," the creator of 'Classical Damn' said.

"More and more people have started appreciating art after seeing them on their feeds and then trying to learn more about their backgrounds. Technology has made its interpretation and access inclusive. The future is going to be an exciting period for art and I'm looking forward to it,” they shared their thoughts.
However, former art gallery director Shelby Bercume from Florida disagrees that art and history aren’t approachable. She sees art as an intrinsic part of our daily lives.

"Art is not snooty and complicated. Art is in literally everything we do, it makes the world go round. It is how we market, it’s what we decorate our homes with, heck it is what we decorate ourselves with," she shared her opinion with Bored Panda.
"You literally cannot turn around without seeing some form of art, in architecture, logos, billboards, television, everything. And that came from somewhere," she said that, from her perspective, the idea that art is unapproachable is archaic.

"Everything is cyclical. We develop new styles that hold qualities of the old while still addressing and innovating in the now. So do I think there will be an exact regurgitation of the older movements? No. But I do think we can see common themes from what once was," Shelby mused about whether or not we’ll see a renaissance of classical art.
"I don’t think I could pick one movement that would be my favorite, but I am very fond of the Rococo movement. I love the frivolousness and whimsey of it. It was idealistic and excessive and a bit of an absurd expression of a carefree lifestyle," the art history expert told Bored Panda.

"It definitely shows the disconnect of the French aristocracy from the plights of the common people, but for me, in this day and age, it serves as an idealistic escape into whimsy and a carefree land of nonsense. It just makes me giggle."
Shelby believes that we can appreciate art without delving too deeply. There isn’t always something “to get” when it comes to art.

"If you don’t care for one style of art, there are plenty others to choose from. I have never really understood why there is such a block. Art is what you make of it, if you don’t like 'x,' move on to 'y.' And if you really want to understand something, do your research and dive into it. Figure out what the beginnings were. What is the artist trying to say? Are they trying to say anything? Is it for aesthetics? Are you supposed to interpret it or are you looking too far into it? You don’t have to understand everything to like it, and you don’t have to like everything to appreciate it. If you can’t get past disliking a particular movement, you can find another one."

Omg don't even get me started on phony art people. You could take a s**t in the corner and at least 10 people will go "oh my stars, what a beautiful piece, the hardness of the poop reflects how tense and stressed the author is and, the singular fly buzzing around the excrement reveals the loneliness of the author, oh my the colour is magnificent, it's the brownest brown my artsy-fartsy eyes have ever witnesses. Oh and the redness-yellowness of that u-rine (yes, they pronounce it like this) means... well it reminds me I should see a doctor, dem kidneys are a-strugglin' youknowhatImean ahahah Francine cancel my 3-oclock caviar tasting mhm, thanks darling." 🤢
C.Wade you have been granted passage to the next world in your quest to be great...this is amazing.
Load More Replies...Hah hah, I originally started off as a art history major back in Uni and just never understood the false and over-the-top pretentiousness of some art critic and art historians. I was very good at bullshitting so I adored making silly comments at art museums and pretending I knew what I was talking about. "Ah yes, the gentle brushstrokes reflects the subject's innocence and youth. Yet, the barren tree in the corner is symbolic of their gradual journey toward a tumultuous adulthood--see how the strokes become harsher." Seriously, sometimes a tree is just a freaking well-painted tree.
Then you go to each painting making this exact comment, even if there's no tree.

Should have brought some white tape. But seriously, I have seen a lot of great modern/abstract art and some small amount of total BS. I dislike both the "modern art is bad art" blanket statement crowd and the "if it's art it must be good" crowd. Just like things you like and don't like things you don't like. If something is obviously meaningful, that's great, and if it's not meaningful in a way you connect with then find something that is.
I'm with you. I've seen a lot of powerful art that I'm sure a lot of people would call stupid. Doris Salcedo's chair installations have always really stuck with me. But that doesn't mean everything labeled as art can't be scrutinized. I wish people actually tried to understand and put a little more thought into than just "My kid can do that." People simply don't get how revolutionary different movements like abstraction and Dadaism were when they emerged, but context and connection matter so much in the art world.
Load More Replies...10 or so years ago I was in Leeds during the time of the Turner art prize. My daughter who was 3 at the time stumbled upon an installation art piece that was strewn across the floor and includes a chair. She carefully moved the floor bit and sat herself down. Load More Replies...When I was in art school and others were stressed on assignments, I’d reassure them as a joke and say just pull some fruit or some random s**t out of your bag, throw it across the room and make a frantic monologue about how it relates to modern society and it’s constraints 😂 it’s art school what are they gonna do
This just about sums it up for me..... Loved to have heard some of the comments about it.
My husband and I were visiting a modern art museum in Berlin when one of the very large rooms had only a pedestal in the center and a lifelike sculpture of a man facing one corner at the far end. I asked my husband to stand in the opposite corner so I could get a picture of them both. As I was getting ready to take the picture people started entering the room, so I was waiting for them to leave so I could take the picture but people started gathering around looking at him - im not sure what they were thinking, but I was laughing so hard, and after awhile my husband turned around to find out what was taking me so long to take the picture and was startled to see about 6 people staring at him intently.
My brother and me once got the same effect with staring into the distance and pointing in a Canadian national park. It was quite a crowd.
Drama class at college, we did that, pointing at 'something' in the sky. Great fun.

Load More Replies...I took a photography class one time (chem head) and the assignment was a series of 3: I shot an antique Bentley Rolls Royce grill, a Lexus motor, and the sweep of a 1954 Jaguar XE chassis. The teacher asked “What do these mean to you?” I said, I’ve always loved precision machinery and I really like the contrast between the different textures and colors of the metals. I got a “B” with the suggestion to find something more interesting than “shiny car parts” The art kid took 3 photos of a pile of streetlights on the ground, waiting to be installed, I imagine. “This represents LOVE”, he said. “This is attraction, this is seduction, this is completion.” (gag) He got an “A”.
Went to a showing of an artist's work, and one of the items hanging on the wall was the rag he used to clean his brushes.
That's perfectly fitting. My husband is a security guard at an art museum, I showed him this and he said that is how a lot of people who go to the museum act.
So it was the other visitors that made a spectacle of themselves, right?

Back when I was in college, my boyfriend and I went to the Morris Museum in New Jersey. For some reason, he decided to dress up as the 10th Doctor (David Tennent) and walked around the automaton exhibit continuously using his Sonic Screwdriver. It was NOT Halloween.
Love these (except for the people putting stuff in art galleries, not a big fan of "gotchas")
why? They're making art. If art isn't about social commentary, then what is it?
