I Challenged Myself To Paint One Painting A Day For 100 Days With Gouache – A Medium I’ve Never Used Before (30 Pics)
In February, I moved back to my hometown and started sketching with ink, because I was in between jobs, and then COVID-19 hit. I thought it would be good for me to do a 100 days challenge to keep a daily structure.
Although I really like ink, I've always wanted to learn more about colors and paint. So I decided to give it a go with gouache, a medium I had never used before.
Now, I'm halfway down the 100 days challenge! I'm in love with gouache. It is such a versatile and forgiving medium. The vibrant colors make me very happy.
For the first 50 days, I used many reference photos (credit is on my Instagram) and for the next 50 days, I'm going to use my own photos or my imagination.
It is a tough challenge, but also a great learning experience. I really hope you enjoy my paintings and that those colors make your day a little brighter!

I love the views of wire and industry- it makes me think of some of the setting shots in anime I like :)
It is also one of my favourite themes to paint! Thank you :)

You can take everyday items you see and you make it a price of art (literally)
This reminded me of the trees near my family’s cabin in the mountains
Around 2 hours. Sometimes only 30 min, sometimes 3 hours.
Load More Replies...Please post the ones you paint with your imagination. I shall be waiting. Great work.
All these paintings reminds me of my childhood when I would let my creativity flow through my paintings and drawings. Those were the days. Sometimes I wonder where did that part of me go, why I don't paint and draw anymore? Thank you so much Thomathis for these beautiful paintings. It makes me feel different emotions of joy, nostalgia as well as a feeling of loss.
Start making art again. I know it's there !!
Load More Replies...Do you use rulers or are that talented that you simply do it with symmetry? Ugh, this is why I could never draw, it's requires so much patience and if it's not symmetric then what's the point?
Actually, if you see the individual lines, they aren't straight... It's the whole composition that makes it look good! You don't have to draw extremely perfect lines to draw anything... In fact, some sort of differences makes it look better even

This book is a precious treaure! Each one has your effort, talent and memories. Worth so much more than what the concept of money can ever buy.
Yes, cacti flowers are something special!
Load More Replies...Thanks! At the moment I don't, but maybe later on!
Load More Replies...Gouache is as opaque as acrylics but also has watercolour properties. Thank you for your compliment!
Load More Replies...These are terrific. Gouache is definitely your medium. Love the light effects, the bold color in the shadows, and the prosaic subject matter (crosswalk, power lines, cup of coffee). I paint some, and these are the images I see in my mind but don't (yet) have the skill to render. I hope you will come back and show the next 50!
Very kind of you! It has really helped focusing on bigger areas first and details later. Plus gouache is a very forgiving medium! I will definitely make another post when I've finished the project!
Load More Replies...How do you define the colours like that? Even in dark backgrounds, the colours are so beautifully defined. You should make atleast one tutorial. You are awesome!
I love how some are super simple and some are complex. These are amazing, captured the simplest things I love it.
These are the most intresting I've seen in a long time! You make bits and pieces of life exitig for us!
Thank you Katrine! This comment made me happy!
Load More Replies...Enjoyed these especially the ones that glow. I was going to ask what Gouache was but decided to Google it to avoid embarrassing myself. Oops.
Thank you! Nothing to be embarrassed about. It's like acrylics and watercolour combined!
Load More Replies...Thank you! Still a few days left haha!
