40 Times People Ordered Things Online But Received Something So Awful, They Just Had To Share (New Pics)
Shopping online is fun, easy, and thus, kinda addictive. Being one click away from the miscellaneous sea of goodies is surely a pleasant feeling, but look, we’re not kids anymore.
How many times have you told yourself to read the descriptions, to never underestimate the inkling of doubt if the items look too good to be true, and think before adding something to the basket? Because let’s be honest, that cool prom dress for $5 made you look like a herring under a fur coat and thank god, you got rid of that cursed pic ‘cause you wouldn’t make it through seeing it again.
But who wouldn’t like to learn from the mistakes of others? Bored Panda has compiled a list of hilarious online bargain fails, proving that sometimes we’re all better off in the mall. With loud music and way too bright lights that sizzle your eyes, we at least know what we sign up for. If this post wasn’t enough of a reality check, check out our previous posts on people who deeply regret their online purchases here, here, and here.

Be Sure To Always Check The Size When Ordering Treats
It's still going to give it a go lol, I've never known a dog to give 2 shits about how big something is in relation to itself!
You'd think being set for life the dog would look more excited. Perhaps its just trying to figure out where to start.
You should never EVER give your dog a bone that has been cooked. They splinter and can puncture their stomach, or an intestine. NEVER give your dogs a bone that has been cooked. Better yet, never give them ANY bones, unless they are those round beef marrow bones that are sliced to about one inch thick, and they have marrow on them. They are not cooked. I freeze them and give my beagle a treat-- it's frozen and cold and when it's hot outside, it's like a nutritious puppy popsicle, and it's perfectly safe.
You're right, but in this specific case, I don't think there's any way that dog will be able to get a bite off of that bone ;-)

We’ve all been there. Okay, I have. I promised myself not to step on the same rake twice but boy, those online deals just got me big time. But it doesn’t mean feeling disappointed after opening up your freshly delivered package is fine. And there are things to be done about it.
First, whatever you buy, always check the return policy on every website. Be sure you will be able to return the item if you’re not happy with it and unfortunately, not all online shops allow it.
The other tip is simply to buy from trustable websites. Make sure it has previous reviews, a nice customer service team, and contact numbers to talk to in case something goes against the plan.

Sometimes you really need to go to a professional bakery for requests like these. Many supermarkets do not have the resources for more "out of the box" decorating/baking requests. That's not to say that you can't get some delicious baked good from your local supermarket, but you cannot always expect you are going to get top-notch decorating.

I don't even understand how something was in the system for that long...did the retailer forget to send the item? Because a parcel being in UPS's system for a few months would just get returned to the sender...even if it was lost, surely they must sort through lost/missing parcels every year at some point. I don't even understand how a parcel missing for a decade could even happen...
I've read of staff taking home sacks of parcels instead of bothering to deliver them and then the packages being found out about years later - in one case after the person had died. Maybe it was something along those lines?
Load More Replies...At least she received it! In French, we say that "late is better than never"
Same in English! Except the expression is "Better late than never"
Load More Replies...I worked as a machine repair tech in a sorting facility years ago(subcontractor to USPS). The truth is that thousands of packages get lost every day. My facility handled US PASSPORTS...of which about 300 per month were lost in between machines and the wall, inside machines, thrown in the trash by lazy operators that didn't feel like sorting the last few boxes, etc. In this case here, the package was probably found when the sorting machine was repaired or swapped with a new one. Happens thousands of times a day all over the country.
That's an eye opener... sure it happens in the UK too.
Load More Replies...The water stains on the package suggest this one fell behind a desk, or got wedged into some nook a truck and wasn't discovered by UPS for a decade.
Does that mean that there's still hope for that VHS video cassette that I ordered in 1989?
I worked in my college post office, and we once received a letter, stamped -- note: happens often enough for them to make a stamp saying -- "found in presumed empty machinery." The letter was 40 years old.
Happened to me once but definitely not 10 years. I ordered a textbook online a mo th before classes started. Booked showed up at the end of the semester. I of course spent nearly $300 on it when I had to buy it directly at the bookstore on campus.
Likely behind a piece of parcel handling equipment. Perhaps some deep dark crevice of a vehicle, anything from an aircraft hold to a rail car.

What Could Go Wrong If I Order My Dress On Aliexpress
These kinds of dress pics have been circulating for years. If you didn't know that ordering a fancy dress on the cheap from China would show up looking like that, that's on you.
Is she had worn a nude colored full slip under the dress it possibly could be salvageable. Not at her wedding, mind you...lose the white boob pads.
With Aliexpress "you gets what you pays for", they have some great stuff, but the minute you start hunting for the same thing cheaper, beware. If you like cheap s**t it's great, for cheap, crappy s**t. Pay about what you would expect to pay locally and it's also great, good quality and even stuff you can't get locally. My wife is a dressmaker and several times she has had to remake crappy Chinese wedding dresses almost at the last minute, some have been so bad they were a lost cause, for example cloth cut to get the most out of the least cloth, meaning some panels were cut on the diagonal to the weave so the dress just hung like a misshapen sack.

We're Not Sure Where The Buyer Found This One, But Apparently, Dog Size Is The New X-Large
Infant XL, apparently. I ordered what looked like a really nice tailored shirt off Amazon without checking on the seller once. ONCE. I ordered it in a large, going by the seller’s size chart, even though I’m normally a medium. When it arrived, I couldn’t even get it on, it was so tiny like a child’s size large. Plus it was a totally different style and the quality of the cloth was awful. BTW, the seller was out of China. I now thoroughly vet any online vendor, and first go to a store to get the exact make, style name and number, and other identifying numbers, along with trying it on to check sizing, to be sure I’m getting what I ordered and that it will fit. I even sometimes find out it’s cheaper to buy it in the store than online nowadays. Seems brick and mortar stores are starting to catch on to why they were abandoned in favor of online shopping, and are trying to make themselves more attractive to shoppers.

if you make anything with pallets either wash it everyday for like three months or don't do it. they are absolutely LOADED with chemicals to prevent mold, rotting, among other things. hope u enjoyed my lil' PSA
It depends on what sort of pallets they are. Learn to read the markings branded or stamped into the side of the pallet. "DB" is untreated debarked wood. "HT" is heat treated. "KD" is kiln dried (which is excellent for making furniture as it tends to be quite stable). "DH" is dielectric heated (which has been microwaved to kill stuff). The only one you need to stay away from is "MB" which has been methyl bromide treated to kill pests that are resistant to heat treating.

My Mom Panic Bought Toilet Paper Off Amazon Back In March. Cost Twice As Much And Got Here Yesterday
Only twice as much? The rolls seem to have about a third of the thickness in paper around them, so that's about 1/8th of the leaves of your normal roll.
I take it they mean twice the number of rolls, not twice the "mass".
Load More Replies...Those look like what they call buttons in the toilet paper factory. They are the end cuts left over when a long parent roll is cut down into standard length rolls. these usually get recycled back into the fiber digester to to be made back into more toilet paper. I worked in a toilet paper factory for three years.
Especially when you can see the core is slightly longer than the paper on many and the way the edges are mangled, definitely looks like roll ends (buttons) of cheap, commercial rolls.
Load More Replies...As did we after not being able to get any for over a week. Was advertised as a guaranteed 3day delivery. Took 45 days.
And this is why Amazon is so careful to put warnings about shipping times on every ad, as well as telling you that some things won't be in stock for a month. The seller was ripping people off and you fell for it.
Panic buying screws over people who only take what they need, so it is poetic justice when panic buyers get screwed over.
I hate those who set up these scams to take advantage of people - especially during this pandemic.
The scammers, opportunists and profiteers made a mint off panic buyers... shameful.

Bought This “Gown” For A Ball And Was Super Excited That It Arrived On Time Because I Wasn’t Expecting It To
But apparently I’m one of the few people who didn’t realise the advertised photo was in fact a very expensive bridal gown.
I truly do not get people who get scammed by these dress sellers. If they're selling something that looks like it would ordinarily cost thousands of dollars for a few hundred dollars (or often even less), odds are you're not getting the product you think you are, because they likely stole the photo.
It’s an old saying, “If someone tries to sell you a gold watch for ten cents, they’re really trying to sell you a watch that’s not worth a dime”. In other words, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. They’d be better off shopping consignment websites—-they’ll pay more than $20, and will probably have to do some alterations, but they’ll at least have an item with some quality and value.

Close but no cigar. Maybe some alterations could save it? Also, your aunt’s proportions differ from the dress. I see the cups in the bodice. If your aunt pulled the dress down where it’s supposed to go, it would look more like the picture. However, she’d need to send it back for a different size.
It’s also a very difficult sort of dress to pull off, even if it looked exactly like the first picture. I don’t wear mermaid dresses because they make me look like a sausage.
Load More Replies...It's not going to the the same on a model as it will one you. I think this one is pretty close to the original.
What You Order vs. What You Get. Don’t Buy From Instagram Ads
Everyone wanting to buy one of these damn baby yodas. It's ridiculous. Save your money and your reputation.
I Should've Known Better Than To Order Free Socks From A Cereal Box
I think they look as good as they can as a woven product. The left picture is a computer drawing.... no fabric or threads visible.
Exactly what I was thinking. An image on fabric isn't going to look anything like it does on paper. Just as that same image will appear completely different on two different types of fabric.

Is cameltoe back in style? Why would you want to wear that hideous ensemble in the first place?
Another example of the "dumbing down" of the English language.
Load More Replies...To be honest, it does not look good on the model photo either. This is some style that is almost impossible to pull off. I would never buy it.
What Was Supposed To Be A Comfy Microfiber Fleece Blanket Came As A Photocopied Polyester Curtain. This Was A Purchase Directly From The Advertising Site Too
I actually purchased one of these giant tortilla blankets as a gag gift for my wife (she's Mexican) as revenge for the giant potato pillow gag gift she got me (I'm Irish), and I must say it looks exactly like what was pictured, looks exactly like a giant tortilla, and looks nothing like this atrocity. Also, great for making pug burritos...
'pug burritos'... LOL (can imagine that very clearly)
Load More Replies...The one on the left looks like a tortilla. The one on the right looks like it came from a crime scene.
Well, even the original looks like somebody used it when they ran out of tp...
Why would you want a blanket that looks like used toilet paper in the first place?
When I first saw the image on the left, I thought it was a flour tortilla.
Poo stained blanket vs Blood stained curtain. Persons that order this must be infected with covid. No taste.
top clinical tip- Covid 19 will infect you whether you have taste or not. Just ask Boris Johnson...erm I take that back...

I Ordered My Birthday Outfit And Wanted To Damn Cry Y’all. They Got Me. What I Ordered vs. What I Got
The model in the original has big boobs (oddly far apart) and curvy hips. The girl on the right has a much more slender figure. Did she expect the dress to come with bigger boobs and hips?
The model in the original has a lopsided boob job and has been photoshopped to remove half her waist and stretch her a*s.

Please don’t take offense at this, but you’re way slimmer (totally normal shaped—-without plastic surgery) than the model, so it won’t look the same on you. Very few of us look like the models, so have to expect the clothing to fit differently on us than in the pictures. You’re perfectly lovely just the way you are—-you have the slender shape so many of us covet and nearly kill ourselves to never attain. I guess we always want what we don’t have, so never appreciate what we do have.
Well said! She looks better and could always shorten the skirt.

Another Prom Bomb
Yeah rather than go and look let's buy the cheapest prom dress I can find from a seller in China, I mean, what could wrong?
A lot of people from low-income families tend to buy expensive dresses for events like prom online from low-cost sites like wish. It's sad but at the same time the reviews are always awful and the ratings barely crack above 2 Stars. I knew somebody whose parents bought their prom dress off an ad they saw on Facebook without their daughters knowledge only to receive an abomination like this.
Load More Replies...need some alterations, from good tailor can make it works as beautiful dress, not as bad as other purchases.
Like...the one the model was wearing was very obviously tailored. With that design, really, what were you expecting?

This is salvageable without too much effort. I think the bodice looks nice. Here's hoping you paid bottom dollar.
What's wrong with David's Bridal or shopping high-end stores online clearance racks? I have found some amazing dresses from Nords and NM for under $70 that I wore for NYE and special occasions. I got my wedding dress back in the day from Ross for $25. It takes work to sift through the sites to find bargains but you can't do any worse than these pictures.
If you took off the underskirt and took off 1-2 inches, It would be an amazing modern dance costume.
And dyed it pale yellow, blue, or green. Of course, you would need to add on a sleeveless leotard... Sorry, ballet class has done this to me!

When You Trust Aliexpress. What I Ordered vs. What I Got
I’ve seen worse. At least it’s a funny cousin rather than a dodgy uncle.
Protip for buying from potentially crappy sites - image search their product photo and find out if it's from somewhere else. The answer is usually "Yes, it is stolen".
I always read the reviews before I buy something online. Also the only clothes I ever order online are fundraiser tshirts I buy from animal sanctuaries I love and respect or causes I support. I'm rocking a brand new tshirt from the wild mustang sanctuary Skydog right now. I figure I need to be clothed and the animals need to eat. Might as well solve two problems at once right?
Just because there is a positive review does NOT mean that it was actually reviewed by someone who purchased the product. Read the "negative" reviews. ANYTHING you buy that is made in China will always NOT fit and will NEVER look like what you purchased. You will always get nothing but garbage. The best thing that you can say about anything you buy that is made in China is: "it ain't broke." I don't buy it if it is made in China. Japan is good, Taiwan is good, US is great, Germany is great, India is maybe, but not and Australia is good.

I've gotten craft supplies, jewelry, leggings, tights, some other clothes - all sorts of stuff which was inexpensive and as nice as anything in stores. These online retailers should be verifying the merchandise for one. Also, people don't need to ever go onto wish or AliExpress for anything. Can we all collectively stop buying s**t from shady sites? You see those prices? You notice how it seems ridiculously low compared to all the other similar items you have come across? You did not find a deal, you found a fake replication. Stop buying them and spare the environment from the inevitable addition of this s**t into our landfills.
Ok...read the description. 50% cases gone. Do not shop on sites that already appear fishy or from third-party sellerd on major sites that lack credential. 25% more gone. Never think you really made a unbelievable bargain, since it is never to good to be true. 20% gone. The remaing 5% cases on this series are true fraud.
No, that's still 50% scam. If it doesn't fit the description or picture, it's a scam. What you're saying is that you believe 95% of these are easily bypassed. I disagree. You have no idea how much some of these terrible dresses sell for.
Load More Replies...Okay, as someone who orders a LOT of stuff online, here are my tips; ALWAYS check the reviews. Positive, but NEGATIVE most of all. If the negatives are something you can live with, then go for it. Also, read more than one negative review, if possible. Always, ALWAYS check the listing carefully! Often times sellers will bury pictures of what the product actually looks like somewhere in the post, so they can say you got exactly what you paid for. MEASUREMENTS. Check them. I keep a sewing measuring tape nearby my computer, so I can double-check. Many times a listing will have a tiny version of the product as the default one selected, so they can appear cheaper than they actually are. If in doubt, REVERSE IMAGE SEARCH. Shady sellers are notorious for stealing images from other companies, crafters and other individuals. There's a very high chance it won't look the way you think it will, since they didn't actually create it.
Stop ordering c**p online and go to an actual shop whenever possible- this is not a new issue due to covid-19, this is something cheapskates should have figured out years ago...
Shopping for a sun hat to wear hiking on Amazon, I noticed that several changed their appearance greatly when you clicked on different color options. I took that as a sign the product they shipped might disappoint me. With many online purchases, especially from less-than-reputable vendors, the old adage comes to mind: "if it looks too good to be true, it is"
