I Found This Victorian Terracotta Tiles Underneath Layers And Layers Of Wood And Linoleum. It Was Such A Pain To Get There, But So Worth It
... It's a lovely floor that should be kept and cherished... But it is REALLY bugging me that the centre design... Is not in the centre...
No, Bored Panda, you feel wrong. Stop with the darned BP-recommends spam.
Looks like the floor of an old public toilet to me. But to each their own i guess.
And I thought it was bad when lovely wood floors are covered by carpeting - this is amazing!
I Developed A 120-Year-Old Photo Found In A Time Capsule
Someone in my family told me about a possible time capsule in our old house. After investigation, I found a box dating from around 1900 and the belongings of a little girl judging by the objects found inside.
As long as cameras have existed so has the human desire for cute cat pics
We are the most photogenic animals. We also have the cutest butts. *shoves hers into the nearest soft can-opener's face to prove it*

Uncovered This Beauty - We're Still Finding As Much History As We Can. We Have Found That This Pub Of Mine Was Built In At Least 1835 As A House, Before It Became A Pub In The 1870s
The tile work is perfection! I love the pop of color from the blue tile
I have this, in the kitchen and hall. But the floor gets so extremely cold in winter and swallows up all warmth, that I will cover them carefully, with insulation and wood. Plus it needs a lot of maintenence, the tiles get loose over time.
We had this in our primary school until they covered it up with lino in the 90s.
Load More Replies...You definitely have a good chance of finding cool, interesting, and even valuable things hidden in any property. The larger and older it is and the more prominent the former owner, the better your chances. However, it’s no guarantee that any and every old house is going to have a hidden treasure hoard.
Luck, as well as your curiosity and patience, all play a huge role here!
I Was Doing Some Painting And Carpet Removal In Our 1920s Dutch Colonial When We Realized These Stained Glass Windows Were Underneath The Wood Paneling
Insulation. So they preserved them, they didn't destroy them and placed bricks, but covered them. And then forgot to pass on the information. (editing typos)
Load More Replies...They will leak heat like nobody's business. Get some secondary double glazing over them before the winter. It won't be obtrusive
But…there it light coming in from the other side. Didn’t you notice them from the outside?
Had you never wondered when you saw them on the outside of the house?
I Found Louisa May Alcott's First Editions In The Century Home I Acquired. Rare Book Lottery Won
Little Men (sequel to Little Women) is my favorite book of all time. I discovered it as a kid and have been reading it ever since. Funny enough I can NOT get through the sequel (Jo's Boys) to save my life. I've been trying for decades and I just can't finish it. Sorry Louisa, it's not one of your better works. ;)
I. Am. So. Freaking. JEALOUS!!!! That's the best lottery you could ever win.
Discovered Original Tin Ceiling In Our 1920s Foursquare
Most of these coverings have a decent reason. Cleaning, maintenance and heating costs. They were painted white to look like an ornamented masonry ceiling.
Tbh, I've never seen a pressed tin ceiling that wasn't painted. They're still quite stunning.
Load More Replies...I have an 1890s foursquare I'm now thinking of smashing my celings with a hammer
If you happen to have bought an older property and you’re a fan of antique hunting, you should take the time to go through the entire home, from the lowest creaky floorboard to the highest shingle.
The most obvious places where you’ll find valuable things are the basement as well as the attic. It makes sense because these rooms are usually meant for storage.
I Was Sorting Though Some Old Bricks That Was Left Over From Our 1890s Townhouse, And Came Across This
We can't. We only have one fur coat.
Load More Replies...Considering there are inky kitty paw prints on medieval manuscripts, I can't say this surprises me. But it does delight me. 💗
It was a common practice to have a cat or small dog walk across things like bricks or clay tiles to make sure they'd set enough to be fired.

I Found A 130-Year-Old Recipe Book While Cleaning Out My Grandma's House
Grandma was from the UK, and it contains handwritten recipes. I'm struggling to read most of them, but they get more plain in the times during the world wars.
There are similar posts on Reddit Old Recipes - r/Old_Recipes
Load More Replies...How are you struggling to read most of them? Do people not learn script any more?
Lee, everybody’s handwriting differs. Sometimes I am a sloppy writer and can’t even read my own handwriting sometimes. :)
Load More Replies..."10 new-laid eggs" -> 1) Build chicken coup. 2) Find 10 females chickens. 3) Wait for eggs. 4) Figure out what Lultanas and heel are. 5) Make cake.
It's "sultanas" and "peel." Also back in the day you used to be able to specify what kind of eggs you wanted at the shop. New laid eggs are good for baking but older eggs are better for hard boiling.
Load More Replies...And the butter (fresh) - as opposed to the mouldy old butter at the back of the pantry, I suppose! 😁
Load More Replies...Please think about publishing that - I would happily shove my money at you for a copy!
Hoping you will be sharing the original recipes. I read cursive and write in both cursive as well as Gregg and Pitman. I also love keeping to a recipe.
guess you were born 2000 something - English is foreign language to me and I can read this with no problem - granny had nice handwriting
Meanwhile, you should also patiently go through every cupboard, drawer, and trunk within the house. You never know what unexpectedly impressive knick-knacks you’ll stumble across.
Even if you don’t find something that’s going to wow the crowds at Sotheby’s or Christie’s, you can get to know the house’s history much better. Photographs, ornaments, and journals can tell you a lot about the people who used to live there, what they did, and what happened to them.
Medical Chest I Found In My Grandfather's Attic. I Think It's From Japanese Showa Period

Load More Replies...I moved into a 1910 house 2 1/2 years ago, and I love the radiators! I love to warm my jacket on them in winter, hats, gloves. It also helps dry out wet outer clothes, too!
My college had radiators in the older dorm buildings. So 3 out of 4 years there I was awoken at 3am every night during the winter with what sounded like someone banging a hammer on metal. :) They were burning hot too so you had to be careful not to accidentally touch them. One year the radiator was behind my desk and I stupidly burned my foot more than once. And no, we couldn't adjust them - they were controlled by a central area we didn't have access to. Which often led to having our window open when it was freezing outside because the rooms got so hot.
Brilliant! it could be used for shoes and gloves in cold weather too. I love radiant heat.
We Found This Beautiful Old Cast Iron Furnace Vent, Original To Our 1897 Farm House
*drops in a mousie toy and two plastic springs* HALP!
In the meantime, think outside the box, too. The furniture inside the property may be incredibly valuable due to its age, make, and materials. You might have a potential gold mine right under your nose.
Especially if the fixtures are still in a good enough state. And if you can bear to part with them, you could potentially have enough money for a proper renovation or some other project.
We Found This Tunnel In The Basement Of Our Rowhouse. The House Was Built Between 1850-1874
It's located in southeast Pennsylvania. Directly above the tunnel is a public sidewalk and street. If you continued down the tunnel, you would be under a cemetery established circa 1750. The house is rumored to have been part of the Underground Railroad, and the realtor alleges the tunnel is connected.
That wouldn't bother me at all. I grew up within walking distance of the cemetery where my grandfather is buried. What I'd be worried about is flooding and the tunnel possibly collapsing.
Load More Replies...I would also wager it was used during the Prohibition Era to smuggle liquor.
Finding A home that was apart of the underground railroad is a treasure!
Emancipation Proclamation = 1861. Wouldn't 1850 - 1875 be too late for The Underground Railroad (just curious).
But it wasn't the emancipation proclamation that freed the slaves, it was the 13th amendment to the constitution. The civil war ended in 1865, so this is the proper time frame for the underground railroad.
Load More Replies...1850 wasn’t too late. And it sounds like the perfect slave smuggling tunnel. Slaves go through the tunnel and pop out of the cemetery at night.
I Found This In The Yard Of My Old House In Agra, India
Update: My father sent a few samples to the Archaeological Survey of India in Agra, as suggested by many, so thank you. Those of you who said they are Terracotta figures, you were correct. They are Portuguese Terracotta figures from the 3rd to 4th century. I can't believe I thought these figurines were nothing of value and considered throwing them away.
It would be the 16th century when part of India was part of the Portuguese empire.
There was a trade route linking China, SEA, India, Arabs and Europe even before Roman's era. These figurines must have come that way.
Load More Replies...A Woman From Edinburgh Discovered A 135-Year-Old Note Buried Under The Floorboards Of Her House
The Victorian time capsule was found in the exact place in the floorboards where it had been left on October 6, 1887. The Victorian-era note reads: "James Richie and John Grieve laid this floor, but they did not drink the whisky. October 6, 1887. Whoever finds this bottle may think our dust is blowing along the road."
That's incredible! I love the thought of workmen leaving a note hidden behind.
All I ever found was a steel coke can and a couple of obscene movies. They would have just been xxx rated, but we’re explicitly racial.
Load More Replies...There’s also a decent chance that there may be some lucrative items or jaw-dropping architectural features hidden beneath the carpets and floorboards, as well as within the walls. Though you’ll probably only uncover those if you’re knee-deep in renovating the entire place.

I Found My Great-Great-Grandfather's 1899 Certificate Of U.S. Citizenship, In Which He Renounced His Allegiance To The Emperor Of Austria
My grandfather was in the South Pacific during WW2 and I have an embroidered piece given to him by the people of one of the tiny islands in the area.
I found Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia identity cards that belonged to my grandparents.
I have my maternal grandmother's birth certificate. It dates back to late 19th century. My mother was born in 1924.
Apparently, I Slept 10 Feet Away From A 1910 Singer Sewing Machine My Entire Life Without Knowing It
My family inherited our 1920-built home from a family friend whose father built it, and when she passed away, we also got everything inside it. That was over 30 years ago, and we found lots of treasures over the years. My mom recently, dug in the eaves and found this 1910 Singer sewing machine with a cabinet. It was closed, so she always thought it was just an old table until she opened it last week. It needs a new lightbulb, and the pulley belt disintegrated, but other than that, it appears to be in good shape. For now, it's going to be a nice showpiece in my home, but one day I'll replace the parts. I just can't believe it took us 30 years to find it.
Apparently there was a time when lots of effort was being put into machines being beautiful.
Mom had one much like this (which she used regularly), but hers was newer and electrically driven. The sewing machine can retract into the table so that it can be closed up to present a flat lid. The machine is hinged at the rear. You tilt it back, then lift the wooden flap at the front to provide clearance. Then you bring the machine forward on its hinges and swing it down into the cavity in the stand. Close the front flap, then close the hinged lid (on the left of the stand/table, which supports the material while you're sewing), and you have a tidy, flat-topped end table sort of thing. Judging by the comment about a light bulb, this one also seems to be electric, but that might be only the work light. It's obviously older than Mom's, and I don't see a housing on the back for a drive motor.
My grandmother had a sewing machine very similar. Sibling took it as I already have a sewing machine.
Not to mention that the house itself, if it’s truly a historical and architectural marvel, can be incredibly valuable if you keep it as it currently is, without changing its unique details. In that case, it’s more an investment than a place that you might live full-time.
However, you'll have to put in the effort to maintain the property to preserve its legacy and significance.
According to 'Antiquing for Dummies,’ you can tell whether a particular item is valuable by remembering the acronym RADAR. It stands for rarity, aesthetics, desirability, authenticity, and really great condition. So, an item that is very rare, looks pleasing to the eye, and appeals to a lot of people thanks to current trends is worth a lot. If it’s confirmed to be authentic and has also been maintained well, this only makes its value go up.
I Was Cleaning Out My Dad's Old House Today And Stumbled Upon His Amazing Spider-Man Collection. He Has Every Issue From #15 To #700
More to the point, archival grade bags that don't outgas or become sticky, and acid-free or even slightly alkaline boards or paper, because comic paper is acid based and degrades.
Load More Replies...Your Dad has a fortune of collectible comics there. Bag em' , tag em' and go online to get current pricing and then make a smart decision. In the very early 1970s, I sold all my #1 issues of Daredevil, Fantastic Four and other Marvel comics for the then hugh amount of $200 to a savvy comic book collector and I thought I was the Donald Trump of the comic book world. I, to this day am still kicking myself after seeing the unbelievable rise in the value of something I originally paid 10, 12, 15 cents off the spinning comic book rack at my corner drug store.
Rick from Påwn Stars: "The cover price says ten cents. I need to make a profit. Best I can offer is five cents."
I don't like being that guy and immediately think about monetizing a find like that (especially considering the sentimental value), that being said, my first thought was "that's gotta be worth more than the house itself", which of course depends on the condition of the comics as well as the house, but you know what I mean. Any comic book nerds here who can confirm or deny that with some certainty?
A guy in my hometown passed away and his family found first edition Batman and Superman comic books in his collection. Inheritance money right there. This guy should seriously get an appraisal on those.
I Found Some Coins In A House I Recently Bought In Alexandria, Egypt
"They belong in a museum!" Sorry, couldn't resist the Indiana Jones reference. 🤭 These are beautiful.
Oohhh.. so jealous! My grandfather was born in Alexandria so I am feeling a special connection to anything coming from there. And... these are super cool!
While Replacing A Wall In My Basement, I Found A 100-Year-Old Marriage Certificate
That’s beautiful! I’d be torn between wanting to frame it and finding their descendants to give it to them.
The day the husband a wife received this, they probably thought they'd have forever to be together.
Why is it that old documents marking such occasions were always so beautiful and now they're so ordinary??
you could contact the Photo Angel on FB or go on Ancestry and return it to family members of origin. It may mean the world to the family it belongs to.
On the flip side, if an antique is all scratched up, full of dings, chips, and cracks, its value drops.
Other things that detract from the overall worth of an item or a piece of furniture are if they’re discolored, have missing parts, or if they’ve been repaired unprofessionally. It’s nice that someone took the time to maintain an item. However, the reality is that if it’s done poorly, it really won’t help if you plan on reselling it.
I Found These Stacked In A Secret Drawer Left In My 1885 House
Confederate States of America... sadly, we are still fighting that war with the loonies.
My 3rd grade teacher had a Confederate $100 bill in her wallet. It had been torn in half. Her grandfather found it after the war ended.
They could just be replicas. I had a bunch of these I bought from one of those gumball machines for a quarter when I was little.
The House I Grew Up In Was Being Torn Down, So I Went Up Into The Attic And Found This Between The Rafters. Label Reads: "Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1765"
Have that checked. Even in poor condition they can fetch eye watering numbers.
According to the comments, this post is seemingly fake (copied from an eBay listing) and the violin is also unlikely a real Stradivarius.
And decided to share your big news with the rest of the world right here...on BP...
Load More Replies...If it is as labeled, it is worth a pretty penny, have a true professional evaluate, and don't sell it until you have double checked. Now to be the stick in the mud, many violin makers put that and similar stickers in their violins, maybe to indicate the type of violin. Even if that is the case it still may be a valuable violin, old violins can be worth quite a bit.
I Found This Lamp In The Old House During Renovation
Should any of you find yourself in Winter Park Florida (not far from WDW) there's this place. " Tiffany collection at the Morse Museum Welcome to the Morse Museum The Morse Museum houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), including the artist and designer’s jewelry, pottery, paintings, art glass, leaded-glass lamps and windows; his chapel interior from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago; and art and architectural objects from his Long Island country estate, Laurelton Hall. "
The Lion and Unicorn Auction House stresses that valuable antiques are made from high-quality materials. It can be as simple as determining that an item’s been furnished with gold or silver instead of cheaper metals, for instance, brass or bronze.
It’s also essential to determine whether any jewels used to decorate an item are real or if they’re simply made from glass, which is far less expensive. Something that initially looks impressive might fool the untrained eye.
Fireplace Lottery?
I decided to take a sneak peek behind a wall that covered up one of the fireplaces on our first floor, hoping to find an exposed brick. I Didn't find it, but we came across something else. Our House was built around 1898, and we wonder if this is original to the house. I will remove the entire wall tomorrow to see what else I'm working with. I'm hoping to restore this thing to its glory.
If anyone wants to see the fully uncovered pic: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Ffireplace-lottery-v0-dhlpkk7vzamb1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D3024%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Df900159010ef75bd09e9fb2019f4f9a2cfcc992a
My 1906 house has a chimney originally built with four fireplaces. The living room fireplace was completely modernized. The dining room has the original green ceramic tile like this, now painted over. The office has a fireplace with brown ceramic tile in all its original glory, and the bedroom has a closet built over the fireplace. Lift up the vinyl on the closet floor, and you can see the damaged pink/blue/white ceramic tiles that I plan to repair someday.

If the antique is a very notable and sought-after brand or made by a reputable manufacturer, then you’ve hit the jackpot. However, unless you’ve got lots of experience buying and selling antiques, you’ll probably need to have your haul evaluated by a professional (or two!).

Serpentine, I think. Maybe jade, but serpentine is often called jade. It survived in great condition, but they (serpentine/jade) are reasonably hard for wearing. Not that hard to scratch/wear down the finish. Take it to a jeweler, and see. Lovely. Looks like it might have marcasite (sp) which is basically carved pyrite. You don’t find real marcasite nowadays.

Real Treasure
I was in the middle of a bathroom renovation in my house and found a handwritten x-marked spot on the map. It led me into the attic, and at a certain spot under the insulation, I found a little treasure chest. One of the cool things about it was this.

Found These In Our 107-Year-Old House. Here's Some Of My Favorites
My parents buy old pictures like this and hang them in their house. It's a Victorian and they decorated it completely with antiques from the time period. Still it's weird when people ask who's pic that is hanging in a room and the answer is "some random stranger". LOL
If you very carefully look on the back there may be identifying info.
It's someone's Rogues Gallery! Reminds me of our family's, full of antique photographs just like these.
Any name with the pictures? Look into the history of the house and see if you can find any living relatives of these pictures.
My family photos also include several of their "prized" farm animals, team of mules, etc. rather than actual people photos. Priorities. . .!

Load More Replies...Yup, it's called superstition ....... Load of rubbish. Get them valued and if you don't want them, sell the damn things !!!
Load More Replies...As someone descended from gypsies, I have to say I've never felt offense at the word. I've never heard family refer to it as a bad or insulting word. It's more ridiculous that someone who has no connection to any gypsies is "correcting" the rest of the world. Even in the family genealogy books, we are "gypsy". - The only differences are where the different families originally came from. It reminds me of wealthy Caucasian girls at a local school here deciding "Braves", (Native American) being the school mascot was insulting to to the Natives. The only problem was the local Native American tribe LOVED that they were represented, and wanted the name to stay. The rich girl's fathers were lawyers. The rich girls won. 🙄 - THAT is insulting.
I know a few of the symbols, the eyes are a very old style of Mali double evil eyes, really old symbol. The horse in the left is power and endurance, it looks predominantly catholic, our family had a history with the catholic romani side etc. I think the arm is blood and family but I can’t remember if I’m confusing it with another symbol
I would take this to a local historical society and find out if it's museum quality.
It’s amazing how similar these images are to Mexican milagros. Identical really!

Found These In The Basement Of An Old House. Apparently, The Bottom Two Are Kris Daggers From Indonesia. The Top One May Technically Be As Well
The Kris is an old weapon with lots of history and legend. I found out that the previous owner of the house served in Indonesia during WW2. The blades were taken from there. I'm trying to find out how old these are and their exact origins.
The top one is Keris Sipukal or straight bladed keris. The middle one has 5 luk (curves) and the last one has 9 luk (curves). The numbers of luk represent the status of its owner.
The kris, or more accurately keris, were the common blades used by the Malays of the Malay Archipelago consisting of Java, Sumatera, Malaysia, Pattani (Southern Thailand), Mindanao (southern Philippines), Temasek (Singapore) & the Malays of Borneo. They were both actual weapons & ceremonial. The longer ones with more luk (curves) are usually reserved for high nobility while the shorter ones were actual weapons. Today, only the royals of the Malay world wears them as part of their official royal attires. They are still prized by the Malays since there aren't many keris makers left today. Some ancient ones dating back to the Melaka Sultanate or older survived in private hands & some are even used in rituals.
1935 Kilgore Cap Gun With Original Box And Caps That I Found In The Attic Of A 1920-Year-Old House
My brother and I didn't have a gun, so we spent countless hours of our childhood scraping these with rocks from the driveway to hear the pops.
We used a hammer. I still remember the scent those gave off when you hit them

my mother got me one of these.... one of the neighbors had a kid visiting... kid beat me with a stick Broke 3 of my fingers and took it... never got it back, i was like 5 years old

Definitely Liverpool. Should be in a museum.
Load More Replies...The architect is Frederick Gibberd, a brilliant visionary in modernist design. I used to live in one of his buildings, Pullman Court in Streatham Hill, London. Probably considered throw away so folks used them as insulation. Happens a lot.
They are all amazing , but the one of the Liverpool Metropliton Cathedral is my favourite. My grandad was part of the team that made the crown and put it up there
The drawings are absolutely inspirational. But people on the upper left drawing! I need a close up!
Found This Under The Floor Of Our Entryway
I'm tearing up the floor of our entryway to insulate and level. Typically, folks would throw their trash under the floor when things broke, but I was lucky to find a whole plate. Our 1700s home used to be an inn and tavern, a post office, a train depot, horse and carriage storage, and a market.
According to ThePotteries.org, Anthony Shaw moved his factory to Burslem in 1857. This plate was probably made before 1882, because one of his sons joined the business in 1882 and the branding became Anthony Shaw & Son.
One of my favorite shows is, You Live in What? So many cool things people have converted to homes.

Found This Old Well Inside A 1700s Renovation I'm Working On In Chester
looks to me like they've already covered it in glass! it's really stunning, but I can imagine I'd be paranoid of that at night. I already don't like looking out the window at night, but down a well?? can't imagine I'd enjoy that lol
Load More Replies...It looks as if they knew this well was here, considering the perfectly cut round hole in the middle of the kitchen floor. This is a neat feature to have in your house, but not for me. I'm also always curious as to why someone would build over an old well anyway? Look dear, we are going to build our home, not next to the old well, but so it's right in the middle of the kitchen, wouldn't that be nice?
I mean… Having access to a well without having to leave the house would be pretty convenient.

I Found A Couple Pounds Of Razor Blades In My Wall. Apparently Old Medicine Cabinets Have A Disposal Slot
Hell, we don't consider what's going to happen in a hundred years now, either.
Load More Replies...My house was built in 1986 and the medicine cabinet still has one of those use razor disposal slots.
I had a slot for razor blades in a medicine cabinet in an old apt., and used it all the time. Who cared where they went: they weren't exposed, no one could get hurt by them. Anyone renovating would be knocking out walls; a bunch of old razor blades would just be part of the rubble.
Eek I found the same thing while replacing a medicine cabinet. Was hoping to find something cooler than 100 years of used razor blades, ew.
Me too. But my luck I'd find the "bill will", and the bones of who willed me their bills!
Load More Replies...I spent my early years in an old Sears and Roebuck farmhouse. The medicine cabinet had the slot for old razor blades like that. It had a number of old features, like the cloth covered wiring on ceramic insulators (fortunately left behind after the wiring was modernized) cast iron floor vents, etc. The house has long since been demolished, wish I could have gone through it with what I know now before they did so!
I was fortunate when I was rehabbing a house that there weren't too many blades to clean up.

Layers And Layers Of Wallpaper Found In My Kitchen (1900s)
As a PLM asbestos scientist, I can say that they're beautiful, but I hope you ripped them down safely!
I took our 1883 tenement house down to the original plaster. I found 10 different wallpaper patterns and the original plaster was dark brown with stencils on it.
I remember having at three of these papers on our kitchen wall when I was a child

My Dad Owns A 200-Year-Old House, And Just Found An Old Bible In The Attic
Update: It was made in 1802, and I think there was a "King James" sign in it.
I assume it means King James version, which was one of the first, or maybe the first, English translation. There are more modern translations, but that one is still in use.
Load More Replies...After Grandpa died, Grandma downsized and moved into town. I was looking through the books the morning of the auction, and found the (German) family Bible. I showed my mom, but she told me to put it back. I couldn't even read it! There was a lot going on, and I don't think she realized what it was. I took the Bible home (I still lived with my parents) and put it in the dining room, next to the encyclopedias. Fast forward thirty years. Mom's gotten seriously into genealogy. My cousin is the oldest male in the family to have had children. For Christmas, Mom is giving everyone a copy of the genealogy she wrote out, that went back a few hundred years. She also wants to formally present my cousin with the family Bible, but she can't find it, and Grandma has no idea where it went. It never occurred to Mom to ask me. Why would I know? She mentioned it a few weeks before Christmas, and said that the Bible was missing. I said, "It's in your dining room, next to the encyclopedias." 😁
You should see if there's any family info in there such as births, deaths, and marriages. Invaluable info for genealogists!
This looks very brittle. This shot be handled with gloves and a temperature controlled room
I wonder if that was the family Bible and if there are any genealogy tidbits in there

We Discovered A Hidden Cistern Door In The Laundry Room Floors Of Our Home, Built In 1912
We found a hidden trap door in our laundry room when replacing the flooring. The covering was at least 80 years old. When Ripping Out My Ceiling's Drywall, I Found A Report Card From 1957. A Kid Must Have Hid Up There. Someone Failed The 8th Grade
Notice there are no 'F' grades? Grades used to be A, B, C, D, E but people confused 'E' for Excellent so 'E' was changed to 'F' for failing.
Well, this kid flunked American History and Science, and was on the borderline to flunking Language, Math, Band, and Mechanical Drawing. They started out OK, then there’s a steady decline in the third and fourth quarters, with a small temporary upward bump for Social Studies and other classes in the first half of the third quarter. That’s often an indicator of some change in the home life or social life that has badly affected the kid. Poor kid. Wonder what happened to them that winter and spring that precipitated the decline. Running with a bad crowd? Death of a parent or sibling? New stepparent they don’t like? Abuse? Injury? Disease? Who knows. Hope they rallied over the summer (though they probably had to take the two flunked courses over in Summer School), and did better the next year.
I am not sure about the 50s, but in California in the 70s, we used "E" in elementary school. (Grades K-6) E=excellent, S=satisfactory, U=unsatisfactory.

A Tarot Card Found In The Wall Of My 120-Year-Old Apartment Building
This is a tarot by artist Luigi Scapini. I have this same deck, bought it about 1990 or near to, brand new. The whole deck is gorgeous imo. I have no idea when he painted the originals but there are cards depicting his wife, baby and him included and the dress style is 1940s through to 70s onwards imo for his wife's frock. Ah, just looked it up, first edition published 1988. He would have worked for years on it though, he was born 1946. So likely 1970s, early 80s artwork.
I'd venture a guess as to why it was there. It represents strife, a contest or battle, or discord. May have been placed there as a protection against or promotion of strife.

I Found These Behind My 123-Year-Old Fireplace
My sister recently found a bunch of files under her bathroom floorboards related to a major bond scandal in 1922. The man who owned these files was convicted and sentenced to six years in the Kingston Pen. His daughter lived in the house. The files are from when the crime was committed and she’s trying to figure out if they are evidence he hid. She also found the side of a decorative wine crate from 1922 that she is going to clean up and hang on a wall.
All of which begs the question, why don't people clear up properly when they move out?
Reminds me of the time my mum bought a cottage/house (still in the city where we live) and found a travel trunk in the attic. We had no association with the house she'd bought, but the travel trunk belonged to her father, my grandfather. He was one of the first skydiving instructors in our country and met grandma when she made her jump in the 40s.
I walked in an old carpet sweeper when I was doing some remodeling in our previous house. Give someone something to wonder about.
My mum has loads of reel to reel voice recordings in her attic, probably recorded at Hogmanay parties when everyone had to do a turn, sing, tell a story etc. Also boxes and boxes of photo slides, literally thousands. That'll be a project.
