If you're a regular Bored Panda reader, you've probably seen a post or two that we did on the subreddit r/OddlySatisfying, a place where every perfectionist comes to remind themselves that there's still order in this world.
But today, let's try something else. Created back in December 2013, there's a subreddit with a name that differs by just a few letters yet has the complete opposite content. r/OddlyUnsatisfying and its 20.3K members are devoted to crooked lines, messed up patterns, and, as their introduction section says, all the other disgusting, annoying things that make your day inexplicably worse.
So continue scrolling to check your nerves and see how far down the list you can go!

the quest for the fourth bowl practically feels like a movie plot point.
As you probably can see, whether it's in architecture or someone's garden, asymmetry can feel really off.
In fact, we're so used to clean and orderly patterns that a quick scan of Instagram will reveal accounts dedicated entirely to symmetrical images.
These accounts range from Symmetry Breakfast, an Instagram account with 677,000 followers that posts images of matching breakfasts, to Geometry Club, an account with 33,000 followers that shares photos of buildings shot from the street up, two sides converging on the apex in what looks like the perfect triangle.

This photo makes me break out in a cold sweat. Is this a waiting area? So I know what I would do if I were sitting there. Seriously folks, this is like a car crash on the oncoming ban - you just can't stop staring.
And this is not something new. We've long been bathing in these aesthetic symmetrical delights.
In the 20th century, numerous abstract artists adopted it, from Sol LeWitt and Josef Albers in the US to Robyn Denny in the UK.
As did Aleksandr Rodchenko, some of whose photos of Moscow's buildings after the Russian revolution wouldn't look out of place on Geometry Club even now.

Load More Replies...I hate when people say, "triggers my ocd". If you really had ocd, you wouldn't make light of it.
It is NOT triggering your OCD. It is triggering your perfectionism. OCD is a debilitating disorder and should not be used to describe feeling annoyed if something isn't perfect. I live with OCD and it is no joke. I'm sick of this term being bandied about so flippantly.
yeah, but do you actually have ocd? if not, just stop using it like this.

If Sadness Was A Cookie
Ahh...but if it were from a bunch of cookies which were all PLAIN and cream filled, then it might think of itself as the bees knees of cookies because it was 'The Chosen One'. It's alllll about perspective 😊
My m-i-l became convinced chocolate was evil. She would cut down so much on the chips in chocolate chip cookies that some were just dough. (WHY make CC cookies?, you might ask. Good question.) We all ribbed her until she finally changed it up a bit and proudly declared that each cookie now had at least one chip. Sigh.
Oh Well
The biggest problem here is that you're holding it instead of smashing it on the floor.
Designs on ceramics like this are often a decal wrap (based on some making videos I've seen). Whoever lined it up - didn't.
The cup is not exactly cylindrical, so its surface is non-Euclidean; yet this is an Euclidean pattern, so it won't fit without distortion. Then again, it could be distorted without breaking.

According to the American scientist Alan Lightman, human brains actually strive to see things symmetrically.
"The reason must be partly psychological," he said. "Symmetry represents order, and we crave order in this strange universe we find ourselves in... [It] helps us make sense of the world around us."
And when the order is disturbed... It reminds us of chaos. The loss of control.

We even notice symmetry in people's faces. The dominant scientific explanation for the attractiveness of facial symmetry is sometimes called 'Evolutionary Advantage Theory.' If the grand choreography of developmental gene expression is perfectly executed, the result is perfect symmetry.
Therefore, anything less than perfect symmetry indicates some kind of dysfunction, however small.

There is a trend to try to make big box buildings not look like big boxes. In some places I think local code requires it. I think this is an attempt at that. Locally I've seen examples where it was fairly well done and others that were - not. I think this is a 'not'. Two other things you see in this building - making a section stick out farther and painting it a different color - are also things I see locally.
It has GOT to have something to do with the layout of the apartments or offices. Still incredibly off-putting :D

However, nothing in this world is perfect. And r/OddlyUnsatisfying is the perfect reminder of that. Maybe if we accept this fact, stuff like misplaced tiles won't bother us anymore? When you think about it, life would be easier that way. After all, there are plenty of more important things going on.

Pretty sure it's the railing... they were put on the wrong side so they were flipped upside down to fit. If the rails switched sides they would fit the right way up. :)

Does anyone know this one "problematic roll" of toilet paper? When one of the layers ends halfway down the perforation line and you have to painstakingly unravel that half, single-ply, useless sheet every time after tearing it off...?
I'm always amazed when packaging uses high strength glue (or blister wrap). Sorry, did you not mean for me to be using your product? I guess I will not be buying it again then. What really gets me, though, is when they glue parts of the packaging that would be individually recyclable or compostable together so that they are not.
You otta be a manufacturer of said packaging trying to achieve those results. We used to wonder if they were packing wild animals in them to make them adhere that tightly. For the love of God, it's light bulbs not a saw blade.

I know what you mean. However, I have noticed that many gazebos and parasols also look bluish, even though they were once originally purchased black. After unpacking, the sun will shine relentlessly on these and after a few weeks/months the black fabric turned into dirty blue. Is this probably the same here?

Load More Replies...Depends on how dye fast they are, and how many times they've been washed....
Same with socks. Start with a dozen pairs, a year later they're hardly matching as they lose colour in a different way.
Easily explained - some of the T-shirts have been through the wash more than others.
I used to work in a clothing screen print shop.... we saw this all the time.... places that produce shirts will take overage of colors and re dye them to make what they need.... for example make red shirts that they have too many of into black shirts..... there were times we had to go through thousands of shirts and separate them by tonal variation because certain inks wouldn't work on certain dye lots....
This Bother Me More Than It Should
That's allways the case (haha pun!) with every media collection. Cover designers are jerks sometimes. I think Scott the Woz made an entire video about that.
I used to be a manager at Gamestop, and if you got certain cases second-hand, they would look like this. It always bothered me, because the shorter, thinner ones are for normal blu-ray movies.

The Sizes Of The Spins And Text Placement Are All Different
OCD fan: please change the entire story so each volume matches in size. Is that what we are saying here? Just checking.🤔
Yes, but also no. Judge Dredd, with its short, serialized format, could easily have been split differently. Volumes 3, 4, and 5 could have been just 2 volumes without breaking some of the longer arcs. Or it could have been spread even longer, possibly. It's not until 12 that they get thinner due to becoming full color (controlling for cover price). But the placement of volume number and Dredd's helmet design (the spiky things) could have been uniformly placed, regardless. It's even worse on the US editions, which are all white with the title in black, except v3, which is the reverse. 14 volumes, 1 outlier. And then they quit making them, so to continue you have to import UK editions, which are as pictured here.
Load More Replies...Well the spine thickness is always going to be different, but the weird black spiky things didn't need to be different lengths
