A Koi Pond Mousse Cake For Fatherās Day. Everything On The Cake Is Edible
I love this!! Can you make one out of clay and polyurethane so I could look at it forever??
it looks beautiful, but with all that jelly it must taste horrible
Craftsmanship is amazing, but I couldn't force my self to eat it, it looks plastic and unappetizing.
Visually attractive but equally looks revolting. I would not want to eat that.
Due To Depression At The Time I Never Posted One Of My Most Beautiful Loaves I've Ever Baked: Pumpkin
Wheat a minute...I see what you did there. At yeast, I think I did.
Load More Replies...Oh, man! Why can't I bake a bread like that? The designs on my bread, somehow, comes out distorted.
This isn;t perfect, but it's good enough. Wonder how they got the shape though.
Load More Replies...That loaf of bread is a work of art. Very well done. Be proud of yourself, you'll be fine.
If the photos, for some reason, aren't enough and you still need more proof that the way a chef plates and presents their food has a big impact on the guest's experience, consider this experiment from Oxford psychologist, Professor Charles Spence.
Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky's 'Painting Number 201', the Franco-Columbian chef and fellow co-author of the study Charles Michel designed a salad resembling the abstract artwork.
This Peacock Cake And Cupcakes
I would want to preserve this, not eat it! Itās way too beautiful! š
I Made An Apple Tart For Christmas And Wanted People To See It
That's amazing! All the time that took, wow. I bet it tastes as awesome as it looks.
I think we're looking at the results after baking. The fruit looks as if it were applied after the tart had cooled.

Cranberry tart? I've never heard of this before. I need to try!
"A number of chefs now are realising that they are being judged by how their foods photograph – be it in the fancy cookbooks [or], more often than not, when diners Instagram their friends," Professor Spence explained.
Thirty men and thirty women were each presented with one of three salads containing identical ingredients, arranged either to resemble the Kandinsky painting, a regular tossed salad, or a "neat" formation where each component was spaced away from the others.

Christmas Cake I Made For A Holiday Baking Competition At My Office
Which likely didn't quite offset time and materials...
Load More Replies...Unless OP was up against a bunch of other pastry chefs in the "office" I'd say they won. That is very well executed and festive.
Gawd! If OP didn't win, there must've been some really stiff competition for that bake off! That's amazing!!
You shouldn't be working in an office you should be presenting your own fecking baking show love
Seated alone at a table mimicking a restaurant setting, and unaware that other versions of the salad were on offer, each participant was given two questionnaires asking them to rate various aspects of the meal on a scale of 1 to 10, both before and after digging in.

I don't think that's the point but I thought the same thing lol! I was like, beautiful š! Wait š¤Ø...
Load More Replies...I try not to immediately label something as "pretentious" because I am a chef and do appreciate food as art but that's right on the line of unnecessary and over the top. Cool thing to execute, but I'd never want to work somewhere where I had to do that.
My First Striped Cake. Pineapple Cake With Elderflower Buttercream
Such talent! I tried, but I couldnāt always get colors in cream to stay nice and neat.
Before the participants of the study sampled their plateful, the Kandinsky-inspired dish was rated higher for complexity, artistic presentation and general liking. Participants were prepared to pay twice as much for the meal as for either the regular or "neat arrangements."
After finishing off their portion, participants also rated the Kandinsky-esque salad higher for "tastiness," despite it receiving similar ratings to the other salads for the four basic components of taste: salty, bitter, sweet, and sour.

Sushi Thatās Almost Too Perfect To Eat
Donkeywheel is sort of correct actually. Sushi is a rice dish, the word sushi describes the vinegar and sugar seasoned rice that's used. It's a common misconception sushi means raw fish, that'd be sashimi. I say sort of correct however, because outside tradition, I don't think there are strict definitions of what counts as sushi. In the west, people usually mean a cold nigirizushi or nori makizushi kind of food. But it's also good to know there is a tradition behind sushi that's based on the seasoning of the rice.

I Made A Strawberry Vanilla Crepe Cake For My Mom
for the crĆŖpes : mix together 250g of flour T45 (in France. I do not know if this purity classification for flour exists in other countries), 3 eggs, half a liter of semi-skimmed milk, 2 packets of vanilla sugar (about 20g), 100g of butter and a pinch of salt. let it rest 1 hour. make your crĆŖpes, let cool, then put a crĆŖpe, spread a spoon of jam or fruit mousse of your choice, a crĆŖpe, a spoon of whipped cream, a crĆŖpe, etc :) abd use a veeeeery sharp knife if you don't wanna crush everything :D

Of course, teasing apart exactly which aspect of the salads' presentation affected how much participants were willing to pay for a dish, and their perception of its "tastiness," is a tricky endeavor.
But the authors of the study suggest that the perceived effort involved in preparing the plate and its aesthetic appeal could be among the factors influencing participants.
My Wife's First Attempt At A Charcuterie Board. How'd She Do?
It's a work of art. Yet another I'd hate to have to destroy by eating it. Alas, someone has to do it. I'll take another one for the team so nobody else has to endure the pain.
I believe it might be either some sort of soft cheese and that's the rind on it, or maybe it's a regular cheese and that's the waxy coating.
Load More Replies...How did she do? Your wife, ESPECIALLY for her first time, nailed. More than nailed it. That is a level of art and perfection unmatched by many, and she is an artist. Congratulate her please.

I Made These Little Cheeseburger Macarons Filled With Homemade Chocolate Ganache
Bored panda actually censors "c**p"? Really?
Load More Replies...WOW, these are going to be confusing! The eyes look at them, and signal the tongue and stomach to prepare for 'I Can Has Cheezburger'-like taste sensations. The nose tries to interrupt, "Wait a minute, let's not get hasty, something isn't right here..." But by then, the teeth have taken a huge bite, and the tongue goes "WHAT ON EARTH? This isn't right - but it's GOOD!!!"
My Cake I Just Popped Out Of The Cake Tin Did Not Break At All. Feels Good
don't think that has ever happened for me, well done, that is true perfection
To put it simply, expectations were raised [with the Kandinsky-eque salad] and that led to the willingness to spend more and to an increased experience during consumption. The presentation of a dish can excite us and make us more present during the course.

Perfectly Assembled Sprinkles
It causes me physical pain to even imagine making it.
Load More Replies...Imagining the pain of placing those small sprinkles in such a shape gives me finger cramp and shaking hands just thinking about it!
Tweezers are your friend in this instance. And a toothpick to adjust position. ~~~ I can absolutely see this as 'oh, I'm gonna arrange the sprinkles on my toast while I'm eating my eggs' or summat & 3 hours later... the entire jar of sprinkles dumped onto a pan to sort out the broken ones, trip to the craft cabinet for tweezers, 15m spent contemplating the perfect plate to put it on, 5 harrowing minutes transferring the bread to said plate hoping you won't disturb the pattern, & 2 housemates coming by & saying 'What the hell are you doing? Ooookaaay...' while the 3rd housemate sits down & sorts out the sprinkles by length & roundness for you. ~~~ Edit: I was curious, it's a cookie that's an art piece. The same artist did a bowl of rice where all the grains are lined up & it looks very weird. Made my brain uncomfortable, while this makes my brain happy.
