There are things that are considered wrong by a lot of people, however, one cannot do anything about them because they don't violate the law. Keeping that in mind, I asked the Bored Panda community to share some examples of what they think should be illegal but is not. Apparently, there are many things!

Here are the responses from our Pandas. What do you think should be illegal but is not? Let me know in the comments!

I pet sit for a friend who just had to have her dog's (Weimaraner) tail docked BECAUSE of continual injury. The vet called it happy tail. The breed has an extremely long and fine tail. So when "Gary" would get excited (which was also a constant) he would wag furiously hitting it against cabinet corners, furniture etc. It was NOT her wish to have to do this because as an adult dog it would be more painful. She tried everything to get the tail healed up to & including wrapping the tail in pipe insulation. As soon as it healed....bam!! opened up and broke the poor guys tail. She hated doing it but the alternative is painful breaks, and blood which every time he injured it splattered blood "Gary DNA" all over. Like ALL OVER floor to ceiling. Now it's Happy Gary! PS: Gary was brought to the Vet every single time he was injured. The procedure was Vet recommended. thumbnail_...01fff2.jpg thumbnail_IMG_2624-60b7bde01fff2.jpg

Considering the way the USA is going women are now second class citizens to assault rifles and guns. The Supreme Court will be coming for contraceptives next. "The Supreme Court will be coming for contraceptives next." Strange, the supreme court came after abortions, and yet in many states they are still very legal. And the supreme court doesn't go after anything, they only respond to cases before them. "I’m so glad that I’m originally from a country, Scotland, that was the first to make menstrual product free of charge in ALL public places." They're not free of charge. Someone is paying for them, but since it's not you, you don't give a f**k. But let me tell you, YOU AREN'T OWED MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS ANY MORE THAN I AM OWED ATHLETES FOOT CREME AND TOILET PAPER.

I think though that no state representative should make more than the median income in their state. You want more money bring better paying jobs!

So just want to be clear, are you saying that if I invent a medical device, that I shouldn't be aloud to profit from it? Or, if I become a doctor, I shouldn't be paid for my services? Or, if I invest money in R&D and create a cure for a disease, that I shouldn't be able to make money from it? Is that what you mean? If that is what you mean, then what is the motivation for people to be innovative, studious, and risk their time and money to invent, become doctors, or cure disease?

Either go universal or make employer paid insurance mandatory and put a percentage cap on health services/supplies/meds (base cost + percentage = total cost). Either would make health care in the US more affordable and in the long run cost less because of preventive care. I prefer to keep things simple, go universal and treat everyone for anything they need including mental health.

Games that make the x in the ad impossibly tiny, and you have to click three different times to actually close the ad. If you don't hit it exactly, it opens Google play. Those games get immediately uninstalled, even if I love the game. Also, games that advertise game play that is absolutely nothing like what you actually get when you download.

Agree! Companies should have to pay back money that their employees take from social programs. It isn't the employees fault that they aren't paid a living wage nor is it the tax payers responsibility to cover those costs. Billion and millionaires should have to answer for what they are doing.

Companies should have to pay employees a percentage of their profits. That will prevent them from just raising the amount of their products to compensate. Because it will just cost them more. One of the biggest problems in this country is corporate greed.

I agree but to a point. Profit sharing is a common perk for startups to offer in exchange for a lower salary, which helps fledgling companies with their cashflow. The problem is when companies lien Tesla STILL pressure candidates into a wage well below market value in exchange for a profit share scheme (in their case share options) for a company well into its maturity (which means risk of decline). TLDR: agreed but a profit sharing system can still be mega abused.

This is only really a problem in America (and maybe a very small few other countries) over here in the UK, you'd get it for free because of the medical condition, or in some other countries you're not paying hundreds for it anyway. Either way it's certainly awful for the people in this situation, and it should NOT be happening.

Stuff like that should be either free or insanely cheap. Worst case scenario, it should be based on how much your paycheck is. I absolutely hate that they make things so freaking expensive when people live or die based on whether they can get it.

My husband needed life saving shots during cancer treatment. 5 shots at $100 a piece plus dispensing fees and taxes. No shots means no chemo which means he dies (his cancer was 50/50). Not covered by our health care or extended health care. This is in Canada!

I'm on a particular antiseizure medication. When I started taking it, in the summer of '04, it was a relatively new drug, and even with my medical insurance (in the US), it was $300 USD/mo. I worked retail at the time; my parents had to pay for it because I couldn't afforrd it, yet I "earned too much" to be eligible for Medicaid. I changed jobs, and the medication that had been $300/mo was now $40 every three months. Once I went on US disability and got Medicare, that drug became free. I've since relocated to the UK, and even though I'm not yet a citizen and thus not on the NHS, *all* my medications now cost me around 200 pounds every 2-3 months.

The thing that gets me about medication ads is they NEVER tell you what the drug is for! "Ask your Dr if Cletamus is right for you!" Then you have little old ladies asking their Dr if a drug that treats prostate cancer is 'right for them'. Just TELL US what the drug is for ffs!

yes!!! lived in california while my son was in school. he was being bullied by a wannabe gang during high school as he was a big and kind of intimidating looking teen and they were trying to recruit him. when he refused they ganged up on him. when he came home injured he begged me not to do anything but no can do! besides, i was an officer for the district attorney so i had access to law library as well as able to discuss with attorneys. discovered that i could use the stalking laws of the state to prosecute not only the kids but their parents. and, since the school did nothing when it was initially reported, i could also use it against the school district and individuals who had been aware of it and still did nothing. when i called the superintendent of the district and informed him of this it took less than two hours to get the little b*stards written up and transferred to alternative school as they had had many complaints but no action had been taken.

My mom got called because I DEFENDED myself from bullying, AFTER repeated telling the teachers, and they WITNESSED it. My mom asked why they didn't intercede. Teachers responded "kids need to work it out themselves". Well, when in a group of 5 against 1, that's a BRILLIANT idea.

Work place bullying needs to stop being tolerated. I’m a nurse and it’s amazing how vicious some nurses are to each other. I still support unions but they really do protect the lowest of the low. I had a coworker once who killed his girlfriend (another coworker) come to find out he had been abusing, stalking, and harassing women for 18 years. He was caught a few times and plead down to a misdemeanor. The union didn’t stop protecting him until he had been in jail for murdering his ex gf and stabbing her 5 yr old for 4 MONTHS.

Not everywhere. New Jersey has a very strict anti-bullying policy. Kids at my school were saying "You're bullying me" for no reason, as always, and my teacher told them to stop because she legally has to report it. Also, there is a bullying assembly about every month, where they have actual police talk to kids.

Ya I remember at one school, we moved around a lot, & I told a teacher about a relentless bully. He told me daily I should die, I was ugly, disgusting ect. Horrible Horrible s**t. She said it wasn't that bad & that he probably had a crush on me.... He did not have a crush. I never could figure out why my very presence offended him so much. It only stopped after the first panic attack I had, in 6th grade, in the full cafeteria, sitting by myself. No one helped me then either, just stared. When I finally calmed down, I quietly finished my lunch & hid in the bathroom until the bell rang.

Why is everyone so invested in someone's kid's genitals?! The best gender reveal party would involve popping a balloon that sprinkled biodegradable purple confetti, followed by "Yakkity Sax" blasting on speakers while a couple people in fairy wings skip around with signs that say "Gender is a social construct," "Kids are more than gender," and "Ask me about my personally signed copy of Judith Butler's Gender Trouble."

I don't think they should be banned entirely - they are enjoyable to watch at certain times. (Like in the UK, Guy Fawkes night and New Year, or in America, 4th July) but I definitely think they shouldn't be for sale to the general public. You should need some kind of license to purchase them, or only have professional displays available to attend.

I've heard of companies where new management comes on board, and they decide to get rid of the "dead wood" by forcing older employees into early retirement. Why? Because it's cheaper to "hire" two unpaid interns fresh out of college than it is to continue paying the middle-aged employee 60K/yr. And somehow management is surprised when nobody wants to work for free.

We don’t have those in Australia, if you work you get paid as a trainee for a few months then you go onto basic wage. Apprentices work 3 days a week & go to T.A.F.E 2 days . Apprentice wages increase every year until they get their trade licence/ certificate.

    Vicki Schwarz

I don't agree with this one. Historically all trades have had a period that was called apprenticeship. If you were a blacksmith, there were no blacksmith schools. You would have to spend years training your apprentice, and hope that they would be loyal and continue to work with you to expand. Internship has become abused. Then again, no one is locked into internship. The intern is seeking skills and exposure, which IS the payment. Modern interns really need to understand better what they are actually getting into before they do. And need to have an exit strategy if it does not pan out. Change goals quickly and be nimble. Young interns should probably be educated on how to goal set, stand up for themselves, and talk to others to assess how things are going. Internship rarely means you are going to age into the company you are working at.

In the U.S., wages are regulated by law at the federal, state and local levels. It is my understanding that minimum wage was meant to be a starting point. It was never meant to be a "living" wage, nor was it intended to be enough to support a family. It set a base level starting pay, which made it easier for those entering or re-entering the work force to get jobs. Employees are not expected remain at this pay level for long. They get better at the job and get a raise, they use their experience to move on to higher-paying positions, they get promoted - any number of things - and get paid more. If someone is earning minimum wage long term, then something is wrong. The answer can't be to simply keep raising the minimum wage - that raises prices, closes family-run businesses and actually narrows the job market for the people the law was meant to help. Eventually it just makes more sense to hire only experienced workers. There must be another answer, but I don't know what it is.

Exactly this. Minimum wage is intended to keep employers from paying ridiculously low wages at $0.50 per hour due to having little to no experience. My 16 year old getting his first part-time job in high school does not need a "livable wage" to support himself or a family of four. Trying to support yourself or a family on minimum wage is another, complex issue that it was never intended or designed to address.

Plus unpaid internships (which sadly are the norm in science nowadays) and short term interims. They don’t have sick leave, paid holidays or any kind of protection. You can be fired as they want. In Belgium interims are more and more common. The idea is ok (to find temp workers) but they aren’t well regulated. In the company where I worked most workers were interims (which is not the idea) and we all had daily contracts. So if you don’t go to work due to illness or anything you simply don’t get paid.

I don’t get why an employer wouldn’t want to invest money back into their workers. This creates more motivated and happy employees and that means better work. A person with more responsibility should get paid more, and the upkeep has its cost as well. But just because you are an owner doesn’t mean you need to take every single profit after. Give some of it back to your employees - it’s an investment!

It's insane that employers want people to spend all their time working for them, in exchange for too little money to live on. The Great Resignation will hopefully change that, so people can afford to work again.

Do you know about the amazing advances in science like quantum computing? What about all the things people are doing to deal with pollution, environmental degradation, social injustice and all kinds of solutions to social inequalities? You'll never hear that on the mainstream news. You should ask yourselves - why is that?

"Opt out" should be illegal, ads should be "opt in" only. No company should ever be allowed to invade your privacy without permission, whether phone calls, email, or whatever. Unaddressed junk mail and commercials in the media are annoying enough. And when I say only allow "opt in" buying from a company DOES NOT give ghem permission to send spam. I've done chargebacks on companies that can't grasp this.

I think that child marriage (marriage below 18) should be illegal with NO exceptions. It creates so much trouble for the kids, yet so many states still have many loopholes. Only a few have a strict ban. NO parental consent, NO exceptions, and KEEP it that way. Sometimes it is used to keep a rapist out of jail because the child is pregnant. There was actually a case, by the way, where a girl's father or mother had her married because her boyfriend got her pregnant while drunk. She only consented because she loved him, and she was happy to be a mother. Sadly, the child miscarried during the wedding, but her folks never got punished for this. Instead, they went to a different state to get consent from a judge. Man, life is wrong!

My mother allowed (pressured/forced actually)me to get married at 16 in 2008 because I was pregnant. It didn't work out how she wanted tho bc in my state, it emancipated me and we were able to attain an abortion without any kind of interference or permission. It got me out of my abusive home tho and I moved too New York at 17 to attend college. The guy I married was supportive of all this as he had also been forced and we lived as best friends for five years and were able to get the benefits of married housing through Syracuse University, gets grants and scholarships because of being married and obtain our degrees. We then went our separate ways and are now both married to the spouses we were supposed to really be with and have the families we were really supposed to have. It worked out for us but only bc we DIDNT have a child, if we had the future would've been much harder and much more bleak. Sixteen year olds have no ability or maturity to understand marriage

I used to work as a server. Once, I asked a person if he was done with his plate. He said yes. When I grabbed it, my pinky went right into his used chewing gum, which was stuck on the underside of the plate. After like,a lifetime of gross things, this still stands out as top 10 grossest.

The gay panic defense (in some states is banned, most not though). Basically, it’s legal for someone to MURDER a gay person if they claim that they had an “uncontrollable reaction” to seeing a gay person. Yeah. I believe the men who murdered Matthew Shephard tried to use this defense. Should definitely be banned.

I generally like Japanese candies more than those from North America. They typically use less sugar and are less overly sweet. And chocolate from the US uses way too much sugar because it's cheaper than using actual chocolate. There should be a law that says that each type of chocolate can only have a certain percentage of sugar in it before it can no longer be called chocolate.

Freedom of speach must be a reality for everybody, And a benvolant dictatorship, "for the greater good", is a dictatorship still. That's what muting/banning him/them would create. It’s true. And I wish his party would remember that. If someone has a differing opinion they get punished. That’s not right. There are a few Dems who do not vote party lines and get c**p. We all need to be willing to try and see someone else’s perspective with our ears open. The only problem is our leaders need to help be examples of that ( from both sides of the aisle).

Smoking right at the entrance / exit of a building. I always have to cross a "smoke screen" when I exit the train station or want to enter a hospital. Some hospitals have taken action to create a "smoke area" away from their doors and I think it should be so for every public facility.

Making smoking area is great. There are smokers, give them space where they can smoke and where they can toss away cigarette butts safely. You will have no smoke screen in front of the building, you will have cleaner ground and you will not have a bunch or random people standing there and looking miserable.

In Quebec it is 9 meters away (around 25ft) of any entrance door or window, to be legal we would have to smoke In the middle of the streets and, because of that, all the ashtrays have been taking out (cause they were near entrance) but didn't put new one in the middle of the streets so the result is butch everywhere and more hate against the smoker, in the end the gouv. Should delimitate smoker zones, but they just keep adding to the "you cannot smoke there" list instead so the problem is never solved and no one is happy (ps: we do not smoke in the middle of the street, that would be dumb, but that is pretty much what the law is asking)

A 6 foot restriction is a joke. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, people, including children, are often walking through a cloud of smoke to get to the smoke free environment. I live in a bungalow apartment and if the guy next door lights up a cigarette outside his door, which is about 12 feet from my window, the smoke gets sucked right into my place so I have to close the window. I do it quietly though, because he is a nice guy and I don't actually want to make him feel bad when he is right outside his own door, in the only covered area he has. I had somebody come over though and ask if someone had been smoking in my place. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Common sense dictates that if it is by a window or door, it is going to travel indoors with air current from the people passing through it. Smokers need to use commen sense. So yeah, I don't agree that it is better than nothing, it IS nothing.

If I have to walk past someone that is smoking near an entrance to a public building I will hold my nose and close my mouth and look the smoker directly in the eye so they will know that I am not willing to breathe their second hand smoke, gross! This is smoke coming out of another persons body.

Agree 💯. Personally, I don't find looking at explosives that entertaining. I did not enjoy the sound or the feeling of ash falling me even as a child. They are horrible for the environment and a large portion of the US is suffering from unprecedented drought. So, uncontrolled explosions are probably not smart. However, I would gladly shut up about the above if fireworks were being set off by pyrotechnicians in a government sanctioned area. It feels like people are using fireworks as their own personal rebellion. But why rebel against your neighbors? They're probably in the same boat as you or at least in the same sea lol. Idk, I can't help but see it as having no respect for the community. It's a selfish act with little return.

Controlled fireworks displays are ok I think. I know if you live close to the area where the display is, it will upset pets. But you know the exact time they will start and shows usually don’t last forever. You can prepare for it.People just shooting stuff in their backyards shouldn’t be happening. Especially in a city\populated area. There is too much of a chance something can go wrong, and the random noise at random times is an issue. We have a ban, but it certainly was not enforced this year.

I was just about to say that. People get very rightfully angry when they hear about genital mutilation happening to a little girl because of a culture we think is wrong or outdated. However these same people won't bat an eye when they ask a doctor to do it to their son because of something a book from thousands of years ago said to.

Like baptism. My cousin is going to baptise his son soon. The kid is 4 months old and he obviously cannot consent to this. But in Spain it is basically impossible to apostate later on in life. I cannot be more disappointed on my cousin.

child baptism is an abomination, coming from a christian. baptism is necessary, but only if you want it. and are old enough to consent to it. totally agree.

Ear piercing. Not a reason in the world to do that to an infant. Once the kid's old enough to actually say, "Mommy, I want my ears pierced!" then great, but I hate seeing a screaming infant in their mother's lap while the mother and the piercer are chuckling. "Aww, poor thing--but she'll get over it, and she'll thank me later!" How do you know that?!

Yepp. I was on the other end for a while, my job a few years ago required us to pierce ears. I hated doing toddlers' ears! I was good at keeping them calm, and good at the piercing itself, but the parents drove me crazy! Why the heck would you want your child's head to be held fast to force a possible injury on them? Why would you lie so much to them? WE didn't allow things like that. If it was obvious that the child didn't want the piercing or wasn't able to hold still properly, we didn't EVEN try. BUT there were so many parents being completely unreasonable, saying "oh, I'll just press her head onto my shoulder so she can't move" - NO, you won't, that's infringement of her rights, and you don't know how strong a child's neck is until you try sh*t like that! "Oh, I told her it doesn't hurt, why doesn't she want to do the second ear now? Children don't feel it when you pierce their ears, right?" - You absolute d*mbf*ck, of course they feel pain!... Parents can be horrible sometimes.

The point of parental consent is to prevent a child from doing something irreversible which might harm them. What is lacking is the concept of also having the child consent to these things as well.

Every comment here against circumcision is someone who has no idea what they are talking about. I was circumcised as a baby and am 100% happy my parents did it when i would have no memory of it. My brother was born premature and was too at risk to have the procedure. This idea of you just have to have good hygiene is BS. His underskin areas were constantly raw and painful as a child and into his youth - biggest culprits being urine and sweat. He had to keep it lubricated in Vaseline to prevent it. Kids do not have good hygiene habits, period. Even as an adult, being uncircumcised is a daily chore. I'm grateful to not have to deal with this chore. Being circumcised is the equivalent of never having to shave or brush your teeth. You know, hygeine chores. The claims about loss of sensation are BS. The idea that it can cause infection... maybe true in rare circumstances, but uncircumcised is absolutely at infection risk daily. Plus, parents can monitor for infection easier on a baby.

Well the current radical Supreme Court of the US has given the green light to extreme gerrymandering to assure that districts continue to result in minority rule at a state and federal level. For those non-US readers, research gerrymandering as well as the Electoral College if you wonder why our country has gone off the deep end. (Popular vote doesn't apply to electing the president- Hillary got 3 million more votes than Trump in 2016). We are a broken country. The "Great Experiment" is over. It failed.

Dude… not all people who don’t do vaccines are nutballs. Our family is accepting and logical, we believe in science and love and BLM. We don’t believe “Bud light is my vacseen”, we don’t act like redneck idiots, in fact we do the opposite. We don’t think they turn you homosexual. There are simply too many negative possibilities and not many that are positive. There are some perfectly logical scientists and parents who had lovely, healthy children until they got vaccines and things started happening. Plenty of doctors confirmed that the cause of death was because they had a reaction to the vaccine. There are just a LOT of chemicals that can undermine your immune responses in there and we just don’t take them. And you know what? We are WAY healthier that any family I’ve ever MET. We did get the COVID shot, because that’s actually necessary, but we just don’t bother with minor things. We eat very well. We eat fruit, veggies, we get lots of vitamins and minerals. We get protein. We got it.

Bro this one I'm so tired of hearing. 😭 Yeah, some vaccines are good, but a lot of people can't take any or certain ones because of mental or physical health conditions. They do more harm than good sometimes. It's why you hear parents say "Vaccines cause autism." NO. THEY DON'T. IT JUST MAKES WHAT IS ALREADY THERE WORSE. Like genuinely, people who don't have any type of autism or ADHD like me and my family and friends will NEVER f*****g understand. All vaccines aren't 100% good for every single f*****g person and I'm so TIRED of this harmful stereotype!

Regulation is the means by which the wealthy and powerful use government to protect their market share. The notion of a "well-regulated free market" is oxymoronic. As information technology expands, economies are increasingly able to be controlled not by regulation, but by informed choices. So Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Disney, GM, Exxon, etc., urgently convince people that they need more regulation. Absent governmental controls (like 100-year copyrights, frivolous patents, etc.), wealth and power will obey the law of entropy.

Amen, Daniel. Facebook is pushing for new regulations on the internet. They wouldn't do this if the regs would HURT them. I would be willing to bet that the bulk of the regulations they seek - if not all of them - relate to limiting their liability for their actions online and making questionable uses of data permissible.

I mean, simply stating here, it’s controversial bc while it does give other small cities and states better recognition, it also was enacted bc America was founded by rich white men who did not want the poor white men “interfering”with the government. So if it was created to keep “uneducated” opinions from tainting the presidential vote, is it really still necessary in a society full of much more educated people than there were in the 18th century? Guess it really kind of depends on knowledge extents and educated opinions.

There's no simple answer here. But I don't like that state delegates could potentially go against popular vote in there state if they choose.

So you don't think minorities, and this is minority of opinion, should have a voice? It is designed to make sure that mob rule doesn't happen. It gives people who don't agree with the majority the right to be heard. If we didn't have it we would have "might makes right" style politics. That led to such wonderful people as Hitler and Stalen getting into power. The people who want mob rule try to claim it was designed to keep white rich men in power. It wasn't. British. It's worse here, because the left and center behave like it's not a two party system and the right take advantage. I've been looking at Germany's elections: Thier system encourages moderate parties to form alliances. The UK and US systems encourage big parties to include extremists.

New Zealand does the same thing as Germany - it’s how Jacinda originally got elected, actually. And based on how the other coalition acted in March/April 2020, there are a sizeable number of people who are alive because people demanded MMP in the 80s and early 90s.

And Jackson said we should tear up the constitution every 19 years because children shouldn't be beholden to the rules and laws of their forefathers. I mean, the second amendment was literally created when guns took like 5 minutes to reload, and was meant to defend against a government who also had guns that took 5 minutes to reload. Good luck against that m1 Abrams or f35.

I am actually confused about this ambiguous phrase - are you using catcalling as a verb, or as a gerund? The gerund would make it mean "women who catcall", which I don't think is what you meant. But it can be read either way. Isn't the English language wonderful?

Germany’s age of sexual consent laws: The age of sexual consent in Germany is 14, and it means that a 65 year old man can fully legitimately and legally have sex with a 14 year old girl. How on earth can that be????

    Nadine Bamberger

Look it up, the age of consent is 14, but there are exceptions like it is illegal to engage in sexual activity with a person under 18 "by taking advantage of an exploitative situation"[37]). This is specified by Sections 176 (Sexual abuse of children), 180 (Promotion of sex of minors) and 182 (Sexual abuse of youths) of the Penal Code. Most countries set the age of consent between 14 and 16, there's only like Cyprus , Ireland and Turkey where it's 17 or 18.

Sounds crazy, but is true. However, coercion is forbidden. So, a 14 year old is allowed to have sex with anybody in their own age group and above - which keeps parents out of jail, which is nice. If they have sex under any form of duress, you go to jail. If they are both consenting 13 year olds, it’s against the law.

That is not how it works. It just means teenagers can have sex with each other legally if they want to. It's not illegal to have sex when one party is 16 and the other one 19, if no kind of drug is involved, for example. You need to dig deeper in German laws to understand them, this one is quite complicated.

Disagree fully. I should be able to pick my poison. I honestly say let drugs be legal. I don't think it's good for society. But I think the amount and the cleanliness would save lives. There wouldn't be the need for meth houses exploding, or sharing needles between heroin addicts. In the end people will do what they want. But lives could be saved that way.

At the very least, they should force them to take out all the added chemicals and literal poison they put in cigarettes to make them more addictive. There would be fewer health problems, and fewer people would react to the second-hand smoke.

I'm against banning them as such, but I could certainly make a case for banning: smoking in a park, smoking on a balcony when you have upstairs neighbours, blowing cigarette smoke right in the face of a person walking next to/behind you, and of course throwing cigarette butts everywhere (with special mention to throwing them out the window, often on the sills of your downstairs neighbours).

Female circumcision. Still practiced in many countries. One of the « reasons » for it is the logic that a woman who can’t experience sexual pleasure is less likely to stray. Let that sink in and then google it. I think if I get descriptive this won’t be posted.

I personally believe that a person who committed one crime should be given a second chance. But some people are irredeemable . A person who has raped and killed 3 infants should never set foot on the streets again. (To out an example). Since keeping people locked for life is cruel and expensive I don’t see why death penalty shouldn’t be an option for them. Maybe it could be a choice for the inmate to never be free again or to die. (I would chose the second)

I am against the death penalty for one reason: you cannot guarantee that the person who was convicted was actually guilty. Too many "oopsies." It is bad enough going to prison for a crime you did not commit, but at least you are alive. Finding out someone who was executed was not actually guilty does nothing for the wrongly convicted person.

That was awesome year. I was asking for homeoffice for four years, suddenly it was possible. I wanted my doctor to send sicknotes to employer. Impossible for years, suddenly it was done in two weeks (before you had to take the paper to your work or send it by post, no email). We saw a lot of compassion and people were helping each other. Then there was 2021, when people started attacking each other for masks. Interesting thing, first reports of "masks do not work" and "masks can suffocate you" were from media connected to Russian troll farms.

Not everyone can be vaccinated, that is why it's so important for everyone who is able to be vaccinated. It is a social responsibility to protect those that are vulnerable like the immune compromised, babies too young to be vaccinated and people with allergies to certain vaccines, just to name a few. Plus not everyone has easy access to vaccines.

Bullying by kids!!! Their parents should also be held accountable. So many are informed about their child’s actions and don’t care to do anything about it! Examples should be made of the bullies so it deters other children from acting the same way!

Yeah, going to the parents if these spoiled kids does absolutely nothing!!! I've tried with a few of the mean girls, their parents teach them to be bullies. There is a girl in my daughters class that has been sent to the principal over ten times this year alone for her bullying ways. She's been suspended in and out of school and her parents do absolutely nothing. It's easy for people who don't have to deal with their child being picked on to have suggestions, but until you have to wipe the tears of your child for them getting bullied you really don't deserve a say

Three things that generate a lot of waste: 1) Designed obsolescence (i.e. the old model and parts don't work because we made an unnecessary change to the new model, Ex: iPhone requires special accessories that only work with iPhone plug....and then new iPhone has a new plug so you have to buy new accessories); 2) Inability for the consumer to repair what the manufacturer CAN repair (i.e. we won't sell you the small parts that are broken, you have to buy a whole new assembly, even though we make the assembly from the small parts that you need., Ex: you can't buy a replacement battery for your phone, you have to buy a new phone); 3) Unnecessary new models that drive consumerism without actually benefitting the consumer. (i.e. a "new" model car comes out every year, but meaningful changes for that model only happen every ~5+ years, maybe ~3 years for cars)

Why should I have something I paid for not work as it did when I bought it for a time period that suits me, especially in the case of electronics which are not made obsolete by their own potential lifespan but by software updates designed to MAKE them obsolete?

Of course yours was necessary. The fact is it is usually never the individuals choice. It is made for them by their parents. Which is wrong if there is no reason for it. Hygiene reasons is not a valid reason coz it can be cleaned. If you weren't meant to have a foreskin then you wouldn't be born with one. It's not some kind of mutation that needs to be removed unless deemed medically necessary.

    Community Member
4 years ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

That's not entirely true. Circumcision has been declining over the years especially in many western countries like the UK, New Zealand and Australia where circumcision is approx less than 20% and the rates of cervical cancer has also declined. The countries with the highest rates of cervical cancer are third world countries where access to clean water is hard to get, pap smears and the HPV vaccine are not readily accessible. You need to look at the statistics as a whole and look at other factors. I did read the lancet article and even that seemed to focus more on men and women in third world countries. It's ironic that the places with the highest rates of cervical cancer are also countries with some of the highest rates of circumcision.

This is one of those things where it's not the concept itself that is wrong but rather the implementation. Standardized testing itself is not bad, and to a certain degree needed to make sure We (as in population at large) have a common knowledge base. This thing came to my country when I was in high school, and the transition felt awful. Even the teachers were frustrated, when we argued that other options could be correct, and they'd say: "You're right, but you need to learn to think like the people who will grade those according to the key". Thankfully that wasn't a thing in uni, where we could again get points for properly arguing our cases.

This is not my first language, it’s very hard to develop a feeling for the gradual difference in offensiveness of slurs and derogatory terms. I err on the side of caution, but I sometimes wonder if the people who have to face REAL systemic oppression (cf Russia / Belarus / China / Myanmar / etc.etc.) appreciate such efforts. I am old, ugly and fat. I am a woman, I am poor. All of this has been subject of contempt and derision before and will likely continue to be so. However, since there is no political or systemic oppression of me, I have ignored any and all such verbal aggression - couldn’t we focus on real political issues more? Sometimes I wonder if we’re being kept busy discussing our sensitivities while we’re being robbed of a future for our grandchildren.

I copied this comment from vicious_cycle: I agree, but also if it was illegal, it would be stripping away words that people are trying to reclaim. For example, the n-word. When my ancestors were brought over to America in ships, they were called that derogatory word. Now, I as a black person can use it as a way to reclaim my past and heritage.

I disagree. Granted n word has restrictions around it. Otherwise leave it be. Why not going for modern 'words'like bae or tots amazeballs instead. Much more offensive to the ears 😉

These words only have power because people get upset. Not "hearing them" because they are "forbidden" doesn't change anything, it doesn't change the speaker and it does not protect the person who would have heard them.

But my younger brother and his friend were TORTURING THEM, with me watching... like dumping them around, putting things in to see what would happen.. And then my dad says, "Hey, please stop nobody likes to see them tortured." Do they listen? Nope. "I love animals!" I think I'm going to go cry now.

Are teachers really any more likely than parents to twist it to their agenda. There are rules (where I live at least) that teachers cannot cross when teaching sex ed (ie, they can't give their own opinion or avoid topics they don't want to cover) whereas there are many parents (as evidenced by the number of kids that don't get told anything except say no, or link it to their religion etc) who chose not to inform all. At least teachers are taught what to cover and should all be saying the same thing.

The biggest issue is that you can't see into the future. Just because you can afford a child now doesn't mean you always can. Like job loss, family separation, unexpected medical bills or therapies for possible disabled child. That doesn't take into account the people who fall pregnant unplanned. It's not black and white.

If you ban people from being bigots, they're still gonna do it in private anyway. The entire body of Patent and Copyright law should be thrown out in the Comuputer Age. It now serves stockholders, not creative people, and keeps them from collaborating. Rather than supporting an army of lawyers, we could track the contributors to successful works of all kinds, and recognize them with enough money to continue their work from general revenue.

Patent and copyright laws are necessary and important, but 1. patents shouldn't be this expensive and complicated 2. authorities should finally understand that the internet is international and stop banning contents for people from other countries 3. artists should learn to distinguish between theft of ideas and spreading their art. e.g. somebody who interoduces your ancient music to newer generations and generates new buyers of your albums should not be punished, but thanked.

Depending on the party (not talking about Trump per se). Some parties should not be legal. For example where I live (Belgium) there is a party that is openly xenophobic and racist (Vlaams belang). That should not be legal.

Gas-powered leaf blowers. The engines are filthy, producing hundreds of times more pollution than a car engine. They're dangerously loud to the user and those nearby, but are even annoyingly loud from hundreds of feet away. And most morons who use them always use the highest setting, blasting dirt and pollen a hundred feet around and two stories into the air. Using them to move large amounts of wet leaves in the fall makes some sense, but they’re more often used to blow dirt around, scouring the top soil off the ground, destroying insect and small animal habitat, or just raising a giant dust cloud in an urban environment.

I would extend the ban: 2-stroke engine powered weed whackers and hedge trimmers are as annoying as leaf blowers.

Political correctness. We have specific words to describe things for the purposes of accuracy. Sometimes the truth hurts. Abandoning accuracy simply for the purposes of sparing someone's feelings is in essence sacrificing the truth for emotion...it is feeding delusion. There has not been a more destructive social force in human interaction than this.

True. I'm amazed at some of the comments. For people who claim to be all inclusive, the hatred spouted at anyone with even a hint of a conservative view is appalling sometimes.

Free speech. It isn't pleasant but most of us do it. What annoys me the most is somebody reporting back to the victim what gossip is being said and it's the one doing the reporting back who is usually the instigator of the gossip or they have claimed that the third party was talking bad about the victim.

They should remain legal but there should be a three year limit on any one of them. Big Brother had run its course by year 5. When you watch a drama that is up to ten episodes per series there is usually a limit on the number of series to 3, 4 or 5.

Mustard juice is the watery stuff that comes out of the bottle when it isn't shaken first (sometimes even when you shake it a lot). Nasty stuff, especially when you unknowingly spray it onto your hotdog and either have to deal with a soggy mustard bun or get a new one

Neighbours who constantly slam doors deliberately to make a noise as they think the street is too quiet. The front door frame should be altered so their front door is a swing door that only shut when locked and so can't be slammed. And only have plastic concertina doors inside their home. Or who have loud TV or music on late at night when they could use headphones. The same ones who have blaring music out of wide open windows when it's warm and then swig cheap beer all day as they are thirsty when they could be drinking tea, water or juice.
