I Asked Our Community What They Think Is Not Illegal But Should Be, 45 Responded
There are things that are considered wrong by a lot of people, however, one cannot do anything about them because they don't violate the law. Keeping that in mind, I asked the Bored Panda community to share some examples of what they think should be illegal but is not. Apparently, there are many things!
Here are the responses from our Pandas. What do you think should be illegal but is not? Let me know in the comments!

Children's beauty pageants - parading kids in lipstick and padded bikinis - is wrong.
I am seeing this in homeroom as my vice principal talks about our fundraiser. The chocalate isn't that bad, but it is "World's Finest" as the brand says.
Load More Replies...Sexualization of children and young teenagers in general is sick and disturbing
This should be higher up (right under gender reveal parties). Baby & Kid beauty pageants are just disgusting, and teach poor (lifelong) lessons about the right to consent.
Removing puppies' tails or ears for cosmetic purposes. One of the most stupid things ever done to an animal.
Wait....this is a Real thing? Why would anyone be so stupid to do that. OMG!
Load More Replies...I pet sit for a friend who just had to have her dog's (Weimaraner) tail docked BECAUSE of continual injury. The vet called it happy tail. The breed has an extremely long and fine tail. So when "Gary" would get excited (which was also a constant) he would wag furiously hitting it against cabinet corners, furniture etc. It was NOT her wish to have to do this because as an adult dog it would be more painful. She tried everything to get the tail healed up to & including wrapping the tail in pipe insulation. As soon as it healed....bam!! opened up and broke the poor guys tail. She hated doing it but the alternative is painful breaks, and blood which every time he injured it splattered blood "Gary DNA" all over. Like ALL OVER floor to ceiling. Now it's Happy Gary!
PS: Gary was brought to the Vet every single time he was injured. The procedure was Vet recommended. thumbnail_...01fff2.jpg
Fair enough, but we are talking about tail/ear removal for cosmetic purposes, done to puppies.
Load More Replies...I got my boxer at 11 weeks and found out that the pictures were always shot the same way because they docked his tail without permission.
Load More Replies...I agree. It should. And I thought it was illegal everywhere. In the Netherlands that's illegal. Unless of course its for medical reasons. You can get 3 years in jail and a fine up to 20.500 euro. That's about 25,000 dollars.
The Pink Tax and making pads, tampons, and other essential items ridiculously expensive. I recently had to pay 10 dollars for a pack of 24.
we need them. its not like having a period is a choice. its not like when its my time of the month I can just be like "ya know what? I'm not gonna bleed today. I'm super broke."
Yes. I did not ask for a yearly subscription to satan's waterfall
Load More Replies...Considering the way the USA is going women are now second class citizens to assault rifles and guns. The Supreme Court will be coming for contraceptives next. I’m so glad that I’m originally from a country, Scotland, that was the first to make menstrual product free of charge in ALL public places.
"The Supreme Court will be coming for contraceptives next." Strange, the supreme court came after abortions, and yet in many states they are still very legal. And the supreme court doesn't go after anything, they only respond to cases before them. "I’m so glad that I’m originally from a country, Scotland, that was the first to make menstrual product free of charge in ALL public places." They're not free of charge. Someone is paying for them, but since it's not you, you don't give a f**k. But let me tell you, YOU AREN'T OWED MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS ANY MORE THAN I AM OWED ATHLETES FOOT CREME AND TOILET PAPER.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry, but as a female who has this problem I agree. It's so stupid. I feel like people (guys) think that girls spend all their money on makeup and stuff we don't need specifically, but no. Most of it is for tampons and pads because they are so f**king expensive!
On another note. A number of UK shops have stopped calling the aisle in their shops, "feminine hygiene" and are now correctly calling them "period products aisle". Periods are not a hygiene issue.
Bleeding for whatever zone in the body is an hygiene issue. Blood carry bacteries and smells bad.

Politicians voting on their own pay raises.
That’s probably not a good idea… i cannot imagine the level of populism once common people would decide their pay. I think it should be tied to median salary somehow, so they would finally worked together to bump the number up.
Load More Replies...Politicians not having to read the laws they pass is far worse. Not to mention, exempting themselves from laws they pass - that's literally the definition of tyranny
In the USA? The last time that Congress (consisting of the US Senate in the House of Representatives) got a pay raise was 2009.
That’s true - however in other countries they have. Although, the US likes to overlook investment into personal business interests and politicians using constituent donated funds for their own personal use.
Load More Replies...I agree but the caveat to this is that it's a raise for the next term. They are possibly voting for someone else to make more. It is actually a constitutional amendment. I think though that no state representative should make more than the median income in their state. You want more money bring better paying jobs!
Not wearing my glasses, and for a second, I thought you said they should be paid by demons. Talk about an interesting mental picture....
Load More Replies...The American Health Care System. And anyone who makes a profit from it.
So just want to be clear, are you saying that if I invent a medical device, that I shouldn't be aloud to profit from it? Or, if I become a doctor, I shouldn't be paid for my services? Or, if I invest money in R&D and create a cure for a disease, that I shouldn't be able to make money from it? Is that what you mean? If that is what you mean, then what is the motivation for people to be innovative, studious, and risk their time and money to invent, become doctors, or cure disease?
Load More Replies...It's not a system, it's and industry. It's the capitalist assertion that health, too, is a commodity to be bought and sold, just like tissue paper.
I can't get my breathing medication because the government denied me. Oddly enough, they were fine with my getting a nebulizer (breathing machine), just not the medicine that goes into it. Without the medicine, it's useless.
Here in Brazil every treatment is free... cancer... covid .. AIDS... vaccines...
Either go universal or make employer paid insurance mandatory and put a percentage cap on health services/supplies/meds (base cost + percentage = total cost). Either would make health care in the US more affordable and in the long run cost less because of preventive care. I prefer to keep things simple, go universal and treat everyone for anything they need including mental health.
Employer paid insurance = money from the workers' pockets.
Load More Replies...My daughter got a fish hook stuck in her arm. I took her to the ER out of an abundance of caution. They wanted an x-ray even though it was not deep and in fleshy tissue. Even after my insurance somehow I got a bill for $2,349.00.
More like insurance being so f*****g expensive. We need healthcare. But it's because of insurance that prices are so high. That, and stupid f*****g college prices.
About time the US supported their population rather with wages and health care.
My mum, brother and niece all have type 1 diabetes and would die if they had to pay for the life long medication they needed to live at he cost the US charge!!!
Listening to music or videos on your phone in public without headphones!!
Just yesterday I walked past a lady walking a dog with a shitty tinny speaker blasting. What on earth makes these people think this is good or ok?
That literally hurts my ears. The high end on those piezo speakers is no joke. TSSS! TSSS! TSSS! TSSS! I can't imagine the dog was very happy about it either.

This very site does this. When on my phone a pop up in left corner now. Click the corner X to close and open click bait.
I've never seen that. I access BP by my cell only. Does that make a difference?
Load More Replies...Also, ads on phones where the X is so small it's impossible to hit without accidentally tapping the ad.
You know what’s worse? Ads that block out a big chunk of the text you’re reading, and when you close it, the text’s still blocked.
Talking to YOU bored panda. The audacity of posting this when your very own site is guilty of this faux pas.
Games that make the x in the ad impossibly tiny, and you have to click three different times to actually close the ad. If you don't hit it exactly, it opens Google play. Those games get immediately uninstalled, even if I love the game. Also, games that advertise game play that is absolutely nothing like what you actually get when you download.
I don't know how they do all of this...but the fake x needs to stop!
How about the ad on this very one? It won't let me scroll past this. Keeps throwing me back to 1 again. 2 days in a row now!
CEOs making billions of dollars while their employees work 2 or more jobs just to keep a roof over their family’s heads.
In France there was a candidate who wanted to cap the highest salary at 25x the lowest salary in the company. So if CEO wants to raise their own salary, they have to raise the lowest as well. Smart. He wasn't elected...
Load More Replies...Yup where I work many make below a livable wage with recent price hikes but our executives make stupid money every year. I work for a non-profit. They keep telling us that they cant afford to pay us what we are worth because we are a non profit while they buy vacation homes and take luxury vacations and BRAG about them to everyone.
It's so much worse when you see what they spend all that money on. Aside from a few paltry donations to charity to appease their (miniscule) conscience, they usually buy tasteless overpriced c**p. The irony!
Agree! Companies should have to pay back money that their employees take from social programs. It isn't the employees fault that they aren't paid a living wage nor is it the tax payers responsibility to cover those costs. Billion and millionaires should have to answer for what they are doing.
Companies should have to pay employees a percentage of their profits. That will prevent them from just raising the amount of their products to compensate. Because it will just cost them more. One of the biggest problems in this country is corporate greed.
I agree but to a point. Profit sharing is a common perk for startups to offer in exchange for a lower salary, which helps fledgling companies with their cashflow. The problem is when companies lien Tesla STILL pressure candidates into a wage well below market value in exchange for a profit share scheme (in their case share options) for a company well into its maturity (which means risk of decline). TLDR: agreed but a profit sharing system can still be mega abused.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Damn hypothyroidism!!!!!
Load More Replies...Am I too European to understand that American problem...? Seriously, you gotta get rid of your downright inhumane health care and meds system.
In civilized countries, these things are either affordable or free, because the state/taxes pay for it.
It actually is a problem that most Europeans don't have. Social health care pays for things like that here.
This is only really a problem in America (and maybe a very small few other countries) over here in the UK, you'd get it for free because of the medical condition, or in some other countries you're not paying hundreds for it anyway. Either way it's certainly awful for the people in this situation, and it should NOT be happening.
Stuff like that should be either free or insanely cheap. Worst case scenario, it should be based on how much your paycheck is. I absolutely hate that they make things so freaking expensive when people live or die based on whether they can get it.
My husband needed life saving shots during cancer treatment. 5 shots at $100 a piece plus dispensing fees and taxes. No shots means no chemo which means he dies (his cancer was 50/50). Not covered by our health care or extended health care. This is in Canada!
I'm on a particular antiseizure medication. When I started taking it, in the summer of '04, it was a relatively new drug, and even with my medical insurance (in the US), it was $300 USD/mo. I worked retail at the time; my parents had to pay for it because I couldn't afforrd it, yet I "earned too much" to be eligible for Medicaid. I changed jobs, and the medication that had been $300/mo was now $40 every three months. Once I went on US disability and got Medicare, that drug became free. I've since relocated to the UK, and even though I'm not yet a citizen and thus not on the NHS, *all* my medications now cost me around 200 pounds every 2-3 months.
In the U.S., advertising for pharmaceutical drugs. Your healthcare providers should be the ones suggesting what drugs may be beneficial to you, not a bunch of TV commercials.
It's bad enough that it gets advertised to the Doctors- at least they have the training to scrutinise
Load More Replies...Yes, that's why I specifically said "in the U.S.". I believe New Zealand is the only other country that allows pharmaceutical advertising. It should be illegal everywhere. It's just flat out inappropriate, in my opinion.
Load More Replies...The thing that gets me about medication ads is they NEVER tell you what the drug is for! "Ask your Dr if Cletamus is right for you!" Then you have little old ladies asking their Dr if a drug that treats prostate cancer is 'right for them'. Just TELL US what the drug is for ffs!
Why can't I just watch the flash without getting the same add for migraine meds 18 different times
When I was younger, I saw an ad for this medicine. I think it was an erectile dysfunction medicine, idk. Well, I asked my doctor as I was 5 or 6 and I think they just laughed. Funny story, I guess
Even without the commercials the doctors get kickbacks in the US for prescribing certain medications. These include, money, trips, cars, etc.
New Zealand is a weird middle ground on this. We have those ads, but we also have largely public healthcare, and at the end of the day the first thing most people want to know is whether we can get something that’s government-funded. I don’t really get why we have those ads tbh.
Bullying. Punishments are too light for both child and adult offenders.
Me too! It really sucks. And everyone just tells me to get over it
Load More Replies...yes!!! lived in california while my son was in school. he was being bullied by a wannabe gang during high school as he was a big and kind of intimidating looking teen and they were trying to recruit him. when he refused they ganged up on him. when he came home injured he begged me not to do anything but no can do! besides, i was an officer for the district attorney so i had access to law library as well as able to discuss with attorneys. discovered that i could use the stalking laws of the state to prosecute not only the kids but their parents. and, since the school did nothing when it was initially reported, i could also use it against the school district and individuals who had been aware of it and still did nothing. when i called the superintendent of the district and informed him of this it took less than two hours to get the little b*stards written up and transferred to alternative school as they had had many complaints but no action had been taken.
My mom got called because I DEFENDED myself from bullying, AFTER repeated telling the teachers, and they WITNESSED it. My mom asked why they didn't intercede. Teachers responded "kids need to work it out themselves". Well, when in a group of 5 against 1, that's a BRILLIANT idea.
Work place bullying needs to stop being tolerated. I’m a nurse and it’s amazing how vicious some nurses are to each other. I still support unions but they really do protect the lowest of the low. I had a coworker once who killed his girlfriend (another coworker) come to find out he had been abusing, stalking, and harassing women for 18 years. He was caught a few times and plead down to a misdemeanor. The union didn’t stop protecting him until he had been in jail for murdering his ex gf and stabbing her 5 yr old for 4 MONTHS.
Wholly agree on this one. Been the victim of bullying at school and in the workplace. My daughter also sees the same at school (and it's a good school, supposedly) but entitled kids are probably the worst bullies ever (see our government for a prime example of this)
Not everywhere. New Jersey has a very strict anti-bullying policy. Kids at my school were saying "You're bullying me" for no reason, as always, and my teacher told them to stop because she legally has to report it. Also, there is a bullying assembly about every month, where they have actual police talk to kids.
Saw an article the other day were a 12 year old boy committed suicide because he had been bullied so badly. His school and parents knew and left him in the same class with the bully.
Ya I remember at one school, we moved around a lot, & I told a teacher about a relentless bully. He told me daily I should die, I was ugly, disgusting ect. Horrible Horrible s**t. She said it wasn't that bad & that he probably had a crush on me.... He did not have a crush. I never could figure out why my very presence offended him so much. It only stopped after the first panic attack I had, in 6th grade, in the full cafeteria, sitting by myself. No one helped me then either, just stared. When I finally calmed down, I quietly finished my lunch & hid in the bathroom until the bell rang.
Gender Reveal Parties (or at least the ones that require explosives) It's so dumb and people are always getting hurt from these. Popping a balloon is one thing, but firing a cannon? Not okay.
Why is everyone so invested in someone's kid's genitals?! The best gender reveal party would involve popping a balloon that sprinkled biodegradable purple confetti, followed by "Yakkity Sax" blasting on speakers while a couple people in fairy wings skip around with signs that say "Gender is a social construct," "Kids are more than gender," and "Ask me about my personally signed copy of Judith Butler's Gender Trouble."
This comment is AMAZING! When I adopt I am going to do this. Thanks!
Load More Replies...I don't understand, what the point? In Denmark we don't have Gender reveal parties or babyshowers - We have a party when the child get's it's name and that's it - seames like something copanies has pushed so you have to spend more money

All pyrotechnics and fireworks should be banned around the world. They are horrible for the environment and animals !!
I don't think they should be banned entirely - they are enjoyable to watch at certain times. (Like in the UK, Guy Fawkes night and New Year, or in America, 4th July) but I definitely think they shouldn't be for sale to the general public. You should need some kind of license to purchase them, or only have professional displays available to attend.

No, genital reveal. Because genitals don't equal sex, either. Intersex people exist.
Load More Replies...Animal abuse.
The overwhelming majority of animal cruelty is legal. And even the few pathetic laws there are making it 'illegal' to be cruel to a select few species (ie. cats and dogs) are not enforced.
Load More Replies...In the Netherlands it’s illegal and enforced. There was a video lately of boys kicking a hedgehog and the police tried to do anything to identify the boys and search for them
Same for a recent Swan nest kill. Three boys chased the mother away and threw the eggs on the ground. They were arrested.
Load More Replies...It's already illegal but we need stiffer penalties. It should be a 2nd degree felony
It's not enforced where I live, and a lot of the animals in my neighborhood show signs of abuse. The owners don't even get fined.
I've tried to report it multiple times.
Load More Replies...Yes, and animal abuse laws should extend to require humane and ethical treatment of slaughter animals, too.
Absolutely is illegal were I'm from, but yes should be everywhere - including on farms!
Called the SPCA on a neighbor threatening cats in the complex. She got a written warning and they would have prosecuted. She left eventually. Why move into a pet-friendly complex if you hate cats?
unpaid internships
It's slave labour and why keep somebody on once the internship is over when you can hire somebody else for nothing. Also it discriminates against people who don't have parents to financially support them while carrying out an unpaid internship.
I'd actually be willing to work for free in order to gain the experience I need for a paying job, however I can never afford to do that because I need money to pay rent, bills, food, car, gas, etc while working the internship! It's a ridiculous system.
Load More Replies...I’m a clinical mental health counseling student in the middle of a mandatory unpaid internship to gain clinical experience. I don’t get paid, clients don’t get billed so that’s a win for them.
I chose an unpaid over a paid one. I want to to my internship for the intern semester at a lokal residential group for teenagers/adolescents. They don't have the money to pay me for it, so I chose to do it unpaid.
I've heard of companies where new management comes on board, and they decide to get rid of the "dead wood" by forcing older employees into early retirement. Why? Because it's cheaper to "hire" two unpaid interns fresh out of college than it is to continue paying the middle-aged employee 60K/yr. And somehow management is surprised when nobody wants to work for free.
I don't agree with this one. Historically all trades have had a period that was called apprenticeship. If you were a blacksmith, there were no blacksmith schools. You would have to spend years training your apprentice, and hope that they would be loyal and continue to work with you to expand. Internship has become abused. Then again, no one is locked into internship. The intern is seeking skills and exposure, which IS the payment. Modern interns really need to understand better what they are actually getting into before they do. And need to have an exit strategy if it does not pan out. Change goals quickly and be nimble. Young interns should probably be educated on how to goal set, stand up for themselves, and talk to others to assess how things are going. Internship rarely means you are going to age into the company you are working at.
Skills and exposure is not payment. And it does NOT pay the bills. Unpaid internship is slavery.
Load More Replies...Obama tried this but I don't think it stuck? The wage someone works for should be no one's business, especially the government! Historically they are disgustingly unable to fix prices because doing so is impossible without leading to harm against the most innocent of people.
What we really need is for parents and educators teaching value assessment and negotiation skills. As well as self worth If interns are so timid that that are being taken advantage of on mass, this days more about how we have defanged our civilization
Load More Replies...I’ve heard of people going through trainings for the job and getting money, but not coming because they only needed pocket money. That should be illegal.
An internship should come with tangible on the job training if gaining experience is supposedly the justification for making it low/unpaid.
The fashion industry is notorious for this. I have a bachelor's degree in fashion design and had to intern FOR FREE for over a year and a half before I found a paying job in my field... which paid $11 an hour and put me well below the poverty line in California. None of my classmates were able to find paid internships.
Employers not paying a living wage.
A minimum or living wage which is actually set a reasonable level.
Load More Replies...In the U.S., wages are regulated by law at the federal, state and local levels. It is my understanding that minimum wage was meant to be a starting point. It was never meant to be a "living" wage, nor was it intended to be enough to support a family. It set a base level starting pay, which made it easier for those entering or re-entering the work force to get jobs. Employees are not expected remain at this pay level for long. They get better at the job and get a raise, they use their experience to move on to higher-paying positions, they get promoted - any number of things - and get paid more. If someone is earning minimum wage long term, then something is wrong. The answer can't be to simply keep raising the minimum wage - that raises prices, closes family-run businesses and actually narrows the job market for the people the law was meant to help. Eventually it just makes more sense to hire only experienced workers. There must be another answer, but I don't know what it is.
Exactly this. Minimum wage is intended to keep employers from paying ridiculously low wages at $0.50 per hour due to having little to no experience. My 16 year old getting his first part-time job in high school does not need a "livable wage" to support himself or a family of four. Trying to support yourself or a family on minimum wage is another, complex issue that it was never intended or designed to address.
Load More Replies...Why do you think every job should pay a living wage? That's just ignorant and short sided
Not possible. That would mean that the obscenely rich would have to do with a little bit less. We can't have THAT!
Plus unpaid internships (which sadly are the norm in science nowadays) and short term interims. They don’t have sick leave, paid holidays or any kind of protection. You can be fired as they want. In Belgium interims are more and more common. The idea is ok (to find temp workers) but they aren’t well regulated. In the company where I worked most workers were interims (which is not the idea) and we all had daily contracts. So if you don’t go to work due to illness or anything you simply don’t get paid.
I don’t get why an employer wouldn’t want to invest money back into their workers. This creates more motivated and happy employees and that means better work. A person with more responsibility should get paid more, and the upkeep has its cost as well. But just because you are an owner doesn’t mean you need to take every single profit after. Give some of it back to your employees - it’s an investment!
Instead they are thinking of ways to reduce employee costs.. hoping for the invention of AI robots to be expedited

I've come across it in several shops, it just struck.me as paradoxical.

See, I agree, but mostly because that type of plastic isn't recyclable and I think it's ridiculous
Totally non biodegradable. Also, have injured myself more than once by trying to muscle said packaging open!
I wish that I still had the picture of the pile of plastic and cardboard trash that was left over after opening up my new set of hand tools. I had started a new job, alarm/access installation technician, and needed everything from basic tools to electronic test equipment. The trash filled a large black trash bag. Ridiculous.
For-profit health insurance companies. Another one: for-profit news organizations. I'm tired of "news" being more about evoking a visceral emotional response to get more clicks and money as opposed to thoughtfully laying out facts and reality (appealing to the intellect).
I recently found out that New Zealand’s main health insurance company is nonprofit. Ideally we wouldn’t need private health insurance at all (don’t get me starting on the underfunding of our public healthcare system) but the fact that Southern Cross aren’t trying to profit off us helps.
I think for profit health insurance can work as long as there is a non-profit alternative, or even a non-profit base.
Insurance companies play on our fears, and we buy into that. If we want quality news, and quality education, we need to pay quality people. Don't like capitalism? Move to China.
I'm tired of the news reporting non facts and fear mongering. It's disgusting and ridiculous. Honest factual news would be nice.
True - you hardly ever hear GOOD news. Just doom and gloom. Did you know that the world murder rate is down and the world literacy rate up? Do you know about the amazing advances in science like quantum computing? What about all the things people are doing to deal with pollution, environmental degradation, social injustice and all kinds of solutions to social inequalities? You'll never hear that on the mainstream news. You should ask yourselves - why is that?
Bullfighting
I'm Spanish, and I agree 3000%. Not only bullfighting, but all "feasts" based on pestering and/or torturing animals. In Spain there are hundreds! :(

Load More Replies...Not being paid equally because you're not male. Like, how has this not been written into law!
Indeed. Everyone knows it's still happening, but governments aren't changing it, except Iceland. I think they've made it law for all genders to be paid equally.
Not sure what this means? In the UK people have to be paid equally for doing the same job, and also for doing jobs that are comparable.
This is already illegal. If this happens to you talk to a lawyer.
Not being male and being underpaid, try being disabled and being grossly underpaid.
Considering how this country is going, I think the government would prefer women to have no rights. They just want us knocked up and barefoot in the kitchen. They don't give a c**p about paying people equally.
Or (possibly) the corporate wealth that owns the government doesn't want it.

How dare you denigrate Spam®. It's the 5th major food group!
Load More Replies...It's irritating, but I've never understood the idea of why it should be illegal. I'm more worried about all of the paper junk mail I get in my box that I have to physically recycle than files I can click and delete. Maybe it's just me?
I have noticed that I am getting less paper junkmail since businesses switched to electronic spam. I don't read any of it, and have vowed never to buy anything advertised that way.
Load More Replies...While we’re at it, all the spam robocalls and texts from the car warranty people. I hate those soo much. I’ve gotten eight on the worst day. Completely unacceptable
"Opt out" should be illegal, ads should be "opt in" only. No company should ever be allowed to invade your privacy without permission, whether phone calls, email, or whatever. Unaddressed junk mail and commercials in the media are annoying enough. And when I say only allow "opt in" buying from a company DOES NOT give ghem permission to send spam. I've done chargebacks on companies that can't grasp this.
Littering. Whoever gets caught dumping their trash somewhere where it doesn't belong (beach, ocean, streets, parks) should pay a fine or face legal proceedings.
Where I live technically you do have to pay a fine, but it isnt ever inforced.
Littering is illegal. Might only be fine but just as illegal as speeding.
It is technically illegal almost everywhere... Penalty and inforcement depends on the country, though. In Singapore, you can be jailed for it...
Idk it's not illegal where I live. Its not allowed but it's not illegal.

Not at all. It's a matter of getting caught, and sadly most people who litter know they won't be.
Load More Replies...Generally there is a penalty for littering, but it's really hard to enforce unless the litter includes, like, mail with the person's address on it.
I think that child marriage (marriage below 18) should be illegal with NO exceptions. It creates so much trouble for the kids, yet so many states still have many loopholes. Only a few have a strict ban. NO parental consent, NO exceptions, and KEEP it that way. Sometimes it is used to keep a rapist out of jail because the child is pregnant. There was actually a case, by the way, where a girl's father or mother had her married because her boyfriend got her pregnant while drunk. She only consented because she loved him, and she was happy to be a mother. Sadly, the child miscarried during the wedding, but her folks never got punished for this. Instead, they went to a different state to get consent from a judge. Man, life is wrong!
I swear, if someone married me to the same person who raped me and got me pregnant, I'd kill the rapist and then myself
Parental consent is a weird stipulation, because it seems to expect that the child is ASKING for the marriage, when the actual risk is parents forcing minors into marriage.
Sadly a lot of those kinds of marriages are done under the religious umbrella I think. I’m thinking of the Mormons here. At least certain sects.
I’m probably going to get downvoted for this, but I’ve heard of Muslims having to marry in a religious circle or whoever the hell the father says. I’m not saying all Muslims are like this, but I mainly heard about Muslims, not Mormons. I think some Christian denominations such as Quaker will do that too. I may be wrong, but I’m using what I know to make a guess…
Load More Replies...My mother allowed (pressured/forced actually)me to get married at 16 in 2008 because I was pregnant. It didn't work out how she wanted tho bc in my state, it emancipated me and we were able to attain an abortion without any kind of interference or permission. It got me out of my abusive home tho and I moved too New York at 17 to attend college. The guy I married was supportive of all this as he had also been forced and we lived as best friends for five years and were able to get the benefits of married housing through Syracuse University, gets grants and scholarships because of being married and obtain our degrees. We then went our separate ways and are now both married to the spouses we were supposed to really be with and have the families we were really supposed to have. It worked out for us but only bc we DIDNT have a child, if we had the future would've been much harder and much more bleak. Sixteen year olds have no ability or maturity to understand marriage
I got pregnant at 16 and I'm happy to say we just celearned our 48th anniversary.
Did you notice that this one received a lot fewer upvotes? It's not usually male children that are married off.
Lobbying.
Lobbying is the practice of informing legislators of the effects of their vote. It's one of those things which is always bad when the other side does it.
This is illegal in the UK. Our former Prime Minister is in trouble for lobbying.
Illegal in Canada too. Even for judges. You can’t accept a gift of any kind if you work for the government because it can be seen as a bribe. No cash, no vacations, no letting someone borrow your cottage. Nothing.
Load More Replies...Oh you mean, non-monetary corruption? Cause thats what Lobbying essentially is.
Chewing gum and then sticking it on things which are not in a bin should be banished.
Came out of a store, the other day, to find a huge wad of bright blue chewing gum stuck onto my front bumper! I mean, wtf kind of person does that? Luckily it was raining and it just slid off when nudged with the toe of a shoe but STILL! UGH!
Not to shoot you down, but chewing gum actually helps me concentrate more and work faster.
I think she means just sticking it on things, not the actual gum.
Load More Replies...I used to work as a server. Once, I asked a person if he was done with his plate. He said yes. When I grabbed it, my pinky went right into his used chewing gum, which was stuck on the underside of the plate. After like,a lifetime of gross things, this still stands out as top 10 grossest.
No gum, period. Bubble poppers and open mouth chewers are as annoying as idiots playing music off their cellphones.
Birds and squirrels eat gum that people spit out and suffocate. For them it's like inhaling a balloon and because it's sticky they can't spit it out.
The gay panic defense (in some states is banned, most not though). Basically, it’s legal for someone to MURDER a gay person if they claim that they had an “uncontrollable reaction” to seeing a gay person. Yeah. I believe the men who murdered Matthew Shephard tried to use this defense. Should definitely be banned.
yes yes yes 100% (or make it so whoever uses this has to be put into a mental health facility because, if they supposedly have 'uncontrollable reactions' to gay people they need to be put into a place where they wont be a danger to society)
What if I have an uncontrollable reaction to seeing a straight person? XD

This hurts my soul and it makes me hate the US so much.
Overloaded sugar in drinks and snacks.
They don't need that much sweetening but it's even worse when the sugar is replaced with sucralose, saccharin, aspartame or asesulfame-K. I like some tanginess.
High fructose corn syrup makes me swell and it causes obesity. If you ingest HFCS, it causes you to crave tons of junk food.
Load More Replies...Yeah! Even worse when artificial stuff is used! Did you know that aspartame is actually known to be a rather strong neurotoxin and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING about it???
I generally like Japanese candies more than those from North America. They typically use less sugar and are less overly sweet. And chocolate from the US uses way too much sugar because it's cheaper than using actual chocolate. There should be a law that says that each type of chocolate can only have a certain percentage of sugar in it before it can no longer be called chocolate.
First off the so called sugar is actually high fructose corn syrup. Sweeter and cheaper than real sugar.
The FDA should not control both the quality of our food and the medications used to treat the result of unhealthy diets.
Culvers Lemon Ice summer drink has 100 grams of sugar in a large serving. Diabetes in a cup.
Kissing babies that are not your own!
Wait- eww people do that?? I mean I kiss my baby cousin but she’s my cousin!
While we're at it, randomly touching people that are pregnant and rubbing their belly.
In what universe is it acceptable to walk up to a pregnant woman and touch/pat/rub her belly? I'm surprised that the homicide rate hasn't gone up as a result.

Was just in a bar and a drunk man (during Covid mind you!) not only missed my babe on the mouth but stumbled by later to ask if we could take off the baby's socks so he could kiss his feet! Total stranger wearing a Speedo. In a restaurant!
Do you think a bar during Covid is a place to go...let alone bring a baby??

(and hearing people like him eructing their words of hatred and their lies make my ears bleed on a daily basis)
It’s true. And I wish his party would remember that. If someone has a differing opinion they get punished. That’s not right. There are a few Dems who do not vote party lines and get c**p. We all need to be willing to try and see someone else’s perspective with our ears open. The only problem is our leaders need to help be examples of that ( from both sides of the aisle).

Smoking right at the entrance / exit of a building. I always have to cross a "smoke screen" when I exit the train station or want to enter a hospital. Some hospitals have taken action to create a "smoke area" away from their doors and I think it should be so for every public facility.
In the UK you have to be a minimum of 6ft away from an entryway or exit.
In California it's 20 feet from doors and open windows (public space only).
Load More Replies...Making smoking area is great. There are smokers, give them space where they can smoke and where they can toss away cigarette butts safely. You will have no smoke screen in front of the building, you will have cleaner ground and you will not have a bunch or random people standing there and looking miserable.
In an episode of the IT Crowd the company kept moving the smoking area farther away from the building until the smokers had to walk miles just to smoke. Can we do that for real please?
We have it extended around hospitals now, I think they doubled the distance, but you still have to walk past them to get inside.
Load More Replies...In Quebec it is 9 meters away (around 25ft) of any entrance door or window, to be legal we would have to smoke In the middle of the streets and, because of that, all the ashtrays have been taking out (cause they were near entrance) but didn't put new one in the middle of the streets so the result is butch everywhere and more hate against the smoker, in the end the gouv. Should delimitate smoker zones, but they just keep adding to the "you cannot smoke there" list instead so the problem is never solved and no one is happy (ps: we do not smoke in the middle of the street, that would be dumb, but that is pretty much what the law is asking)
A 6 foot restriction is a joke. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, people, including children, are often walking through a cloud of smoke to get to the smoke free environment. I live in a bungalow apartment and if the guy next door lights up a cigarette outside his door, which is about 12 feet from my window, the smoke gets sucked right into my place so I have to close the window. I do it quietly though, because he is a nice guy and I don't actually want to make him feel bad when he is right outside his own door, in the only covered area he has. I had somebody come over though and ask if someone had been smoking in my place. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Common sense dictates that if it is by a window or door, it is going to travel indoors with air current from the people passing through it. Smokers need to use commen sense. So yeah, I don't agree that it is better than nothing, it IS nothing.
If I have to walk past someone that is smoking near an entrance to a public building I will hold my nose and close my mouth and look the smoker directly in the eye so they will know that I am not willing to breathe their second hand smoke, gross! This is smoke coming out of another persons body.
In most of the US you are supposed to be a minimum of 25' away from a door.
Fireworks. They upset my dog.
I think a lot of people would be mad about that because they are a fun tradition for some people. I used to love fireworks, but now I am scared of them because they are dangerous and I don't like loud noise anymore.
Agree. Fun traditions may have to be given up, because the world is changing and we need to move on and invent new ways to party and save the earth.
Load More Replies...I would like to add... Private fireworks in sururban areas. Still not a fan of big city celebrations, but still so much better to have a proper controlled show at one place, then 20 idiots using firecrackers in suburbs.
Agree 💯. Personally, I don't find looking at explosives that entertaining. I did not enjoy the sound or the feeling of ash falling me even as a child. They are horrible for the environment and a large portion of the US is suffering from unprecedented drought. So, uncontrolled explosions are probably not smart. However, I would gladly shut up about the above if fireworks were being set off by pyrotechnicians in a government sanctioned area. It feels like people are using fireworks as their own personal rebellion. But why rebel against your neighbors? They're probably in the same boat as you or at least in the same sea lol. Idk, I can't help but see it as having no respect for the community. It's a selfish act with little return.
Load More Replies...ABSOLUTELY !!!! They are HORRIBLE for the Environment and for animals (and a lot of children for that matter)
Controlled fireworks displays are ok I think. I know if you live close to the area where the display is, it will upset pets. But you know the exact time they will start and shows usually don’t last forever. You can prepare for it.People just shooting stuff in their backyards shouldn’t be happening. Especially in a city\populated area. There is too much of a chance something can go wrong, and the random noise at random times is an issue. We have a ban, but it certainly was not enforced this year.
I live in northern California, where we've had massive wildfires for the past 3 years. I used to enjoy fireworks, but not any more. They just look like so much extra - and completely unnecessary - risk.
I agree that they can be annoying, but making them illegal can cause a lot or controversy as many people find them to be a fun tradition.
I'd be ok with designated hours/places for fireworks. Makes it easier to contain any damage, but can still have fun.
Doing things to a child because the parent consented. From kissing to ear piercings to stealing. Especially if the child is old enough to tell you if you can or can't.
I was just about to say that. People get very rightfully angry when they hear about genital mutilation happening to a little girl because of a culture we think is wrong or outdated. However these same people won't bat an eye when they ask a doctor to do it to their son because of something a book from thousands of years ago said to.
Load More Replies...Like baptism. My cousin is going to baptise his son soon. The kid is 4 months old and he obviously cannot consent to this. But in Spain it is basically impossible to apostate later on in life. I cannot be more disappointed on my cousin.
child baptism is an abomination, coming from a christian. baptism is necessary, but only if you want it. and are old enough to consent to it. totally agree.
Load More Replies...Ear piercing. Not a reason in the world to do that to an infant. Once the kid's old enough to actually say, "Mommy, I want my ears pierced!" then great, but I hate seeing a screaming infant in their mother's lap while the mother and the piercer are chuckling. "Aww, poor thing--but she'll get over it, and she'll thank me later!" How do you know that?!
Yepp. I was on the other end for a while, my job a few years ago required us to pierce ears. I hated doing toddlers' ears! I was good at keeping them calm, and good at the piercing itself, but the parents drove me crazy! Why the heck would you want your child's head to be held fast to force a possible injury on them? Why would you lie so much to them? WE didn't allow things like that. If it was obvious that the child didn't want the piercing or wasn't able to hold still properly, we didn't EVEN try. BUT there were so many parents being completely unreasonable, saying "oh, I'll just press her head onto my shoulder so she can't move" - NO, you won't, that's infringement of her rights, and you don't know how strong a child's neck is until you try sh*t like that! "Oh, I told her it doesn't hurt, why doesn't she want to do the second ear now? Children don't feel it when you pierce their ears, right?" - You absolute d*mbf*ck, of course they feel pain!... Parents can be horrible sometimes.
Load More Replies...I understand what you are trying to say, but this is tricky. If a child needs life saving surgery, parental consent is gonna be what they use to do the surgery not what the child says.
But that's different, it's necessary, that is exemption.

Every comment here against circumcision is someone who has no idea what they are talking about. I was circumcised as a baby and am 100% happy my parents did it when i would have no memory of it. My brother was born premature and was too at risk to have the procedure. This idea of you just have to have good hygiene is BS. His underskin areas were constantly raw and painful as a child and into his youth - biggest culprits being urine and sweat. He had to keep it lubricated in Vaseline to prevent it. Kids do not have good hygiene habits, period. Even as an adult, being uncircumcised is a daily chore. I'm grateful to not have to deal with this chore. Being circumcised is the equivalent of never having to shave or brush your teeth. You know, hygeine chores. The claims about loss of sensation are BS. The idea that it can cause infection... maybe true in rare circumstances, but uncircumcised is absolutely at infection risk daily. Plus, parents can monitor for infection easier on a baby.
yep, my family has a rule that your ears can’t be pierced until ur ten. i’m 13, and still haven’t gotten them! probably because i’m scared of needles, haha. i will eventually get a septum piercing tho!
Gerrymandering by sitting politicians
There is a way to determine the districts that would eliminate it. Need to make it an amendment.
Nothing like that would make it as an amendment. The state legislatures, those that benefit the most from gerrymandering, would need to ratify such an amendment.
Load More Replies...Well the current radical Supreme Court of the US has given the green light to extreme gerrymandering to assure that districts continue to result in minority rule at a state and federal level. For those non-US readers, research gerrymandering as well as the Electoral College if you wonder why our country has gone off the deep end. (Popular vote doesn't apply to electing the president- Hillary got 3 million more votes than Trump in 2016). We are a broken country. The "Great Experiment" is over. It failed.

Spreading anti-vax information to any public platform
Any mention of vaccines on Facebook in Australia now gets a link to the real information by the government/health system, regardless if it's about a covid one
Ah yes because the fact checkers on Facebook are always accurate
Load More Replies...Yes! There is a lot of prof that the vaccine is safe, and my family got it and they were all okay, I am going to get in in about a month and I am excited, so if there are any anti-vaxers reading, THE VACCINE IS SAFE GET IT!
According to the CDC, it's not safe for everyone. It's so great though that there's so many people who won't hear anything different and attempt to convince others of that.
Load More Replies...Clarence Thomas of the SCOTUS is spreading the "aborted babies being used for covid vaccine lies" right now.
Dude… not all people who don’t do vaccines are nutballs. Our family is accepting and logical, we believe in science and love and BLM. We don’t believe “Bud light is my vacseen”, we don’t act like redneck idiots, in fact we do the opposite. We don’t think they turn you homosexual. There are simply too many negative possibilities and not many that are positive. There are some perfectly logical scientists and parents who had lovely, healthy children until they got vaccines and things started happening. Plenty of doctors confirmed that the cause of death was because they had a reaction to the vaccine. There are just a LOT of chemicals that can undermine your immune responses in there and we just don’t take them. And you know what? We are WAY healthier that any family I’ve ever MET. We did get the COVID shot, because that’s actually necessary, but we just don’t bother with minor things. We eat very well. We eat fruit, veggies, we get lots of vitamins and minerals. We get protein. We got it.
Bro this one I'm so tired of hearing. 😭 Yeah, some vaccines are good, but a lot of people can't take any or certain ones because of mental or physical health conditions. They do more harm than good sometimes. It's why you hear parents say "Vaccines cause autism." NO. THEY DON'T. IT JUST MAKES WHAT IS ALREADY THERE WORSE. Like genuinely, people who don't have any type of autism or ADHD like me and my family and friends will NEVER f*****g understand. All vaccines aren't 100% good for every single f*****g person and I'm so TIRED of this harmful stereotype!
As much as I agree that feeding misleading or false information to large groups of people who know more about the Kardashian family than their own elected public officials is bad, I also feel that taking away anyone's right to free speech is wrong. Maybe a solution would be to steer away from attempting to sensor media and more toward effective and thoughtful media interpretation techniques. Just because a person doesn't share my views or opinions in no way makes them "wrong".
Showing school children in programs as being sexually attractive.
Reminds me of a perfume from the 1970s called Love's Baby Soft. Their full-page ad on the backs of magazines offered (yes, that's the right word) a girl of no more than 12 wearing makeup - complete with sticky red lips - looking into the camera, cuddling a teddy bear.
I think I saw that or one like it saying "Because innocent is more sexy than you think." Ewww 🤢🤮

Many people aren't that thoughtful. That's the reason why when older women are portrayed in media as young, society treats women over the age of 30 as ancient. Including people like doctors, who should definitely know better. But media distorts reality and a lot of people really buy into that.
Load More Replies...True, but we already get much older stars playing high schoolers, which you could say is just as bad, because they set unrealistic standards for looks/sexuality.
That's why we get the older stars though. It's perfectly fine to have two twenty-somethings banging in a movie, but once you have actual teenagers doing it it becomes a lot less legal.

Having a system of government that transfers wealth upwards.
Regulation is the means by which the wealthy and powerful use government to protect their market share. The notion of a "well-regulated free market" is oxymoronic. As information technology expands, economies are increasingly able to be controlled not by regulation, but by informed choices. So Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Disney, GM, Exxon, etc., urgently convince people that they need more regulation. Absent governmental controls (like 100-year copyrights, frivolous patents, etc.), wealth and power will obey the law of entropy.
Amen, Daniel. Facebook is pushing for new regulations on the internet. They wouldn't do this if the regs would HURT them. I would be willing to bet that the bulk of the regulations they seek - if not all of them - relate to limiting their liability for their actions online and making questionable uses of data permissible.

The electoral college
I mean, simply stating here, it’s controversial bc while it does give other small cities and states better recognition, it also was enacted bc America was founded by rich white men who did not want the poor white men “interfering”with the government. So if it was created to keep “uneducated” opinions from tainting the presidential vote, is it really still necessary in a society full of much more educated people than there were in the 18th century? Guess it really kind of depends on knowledge extents and educated opinions.
You have no idea what you are talking/writing about. BTW, one of the reasons for the electoral college was so that towns would not dominate less populated areas. You know, towns, where the rich white males lived.
Load More Replies...I've been saying that for years. If it wasn't for the electoral college a certain moron never would have tormented us for 4 years.
No republican has won the popular vote in over 50 years. The electoral college is asinine and backwards. When it comes to president the winner should be who got the most votes. Canada has people spread out everywhere too but we don’t have s**t like this.
Load More Replies...But if you go by majority certain highly populated areas would out vote a lot of the country. It's like how the rest of us in Illinois pay for the highly populated Chicago area. There's no simple answer here. But I don't like that state delegates could potentially go against popular vote in there state if they choose.
Thankfully, it is (mostly) illegal for delegates to go against the actual people votes, but I think it has happened.
Load More Replies...Agree! So many things should just be a by the numbers vote now. We honestly don't need politicians to speak for us with technology the way it is.
So you don't think minorities, and this is minority of opinion, should have a voice? It is designed to make sure that mob rule doesn't happen. It gives people who don't agree with the majority the right to be heard. If we didn't have it we would have "might makes right" style politics. That led to such wonderful people as Hitler and Stalen getting into power. The people who want mob rule try to claim it was designed to keep white rich men in power. It wasn't. But keep believing whatever they tell you on t.v. shows.
It was enacted because without it, every national vote would be decided by three states - New York, California, Texas.
I don’t like the all or nothing aspect of it. If a state has 15 electoral votes, and candidate A receives slightly more popular votes than candidate B, they get all 15 votes.

The 2 party system
British. It's worse here, because the left and center behave like it's not a two party system and the right take advantage. I've been looking at Germany's elections: Thier system encourages moderate parties to form alliances. The UK and US systems encourage big parties to include extremists.
New Zealand does the same thing as Germany - it’s how Jacinda originally got elected, actually. And based on how the other coalition acted in March/April 2020, there are a sizeable number of people who are alive because people demanded MMP in the 80s and early 90s.

Good luck against that m1 Abrams or f35.

Load More Replies...I am actually confused about this ambiguous phrase - are you using catcalling as a verb, or as a gerund? The gerund would make it mean "women who catcall", which I don't think is what you meant. But it can be read either way. Isn't the English language wonderful?
While I'm thrilled ( legitimately ) at your understanding of the English language, I'm assuming it is being used as a verb

There are songs in honour of how much Mondays are abhorred. We should listen to them
But then Tuesday would be the new Monday and we would all hate Tuesday.

Germany’s age of sexual consent laws: The age of sexual consent in Germany is 14, and it means that a 65 year old man can fully legitimately and legally have sex with a 14 year old girl. How on earth can that be????
Look it up, the age of consent is 14, but there are exceptions like it is illegal to engage in sexual activity with a person under 18 "by taking advantage of an exploitative situation"[37]). This is specified by Sections 176 (Sexual abuse of children), 180 (Promotion of sex of minors) and 182 (Sexual abuse of youths) of the Penal Code. Most countries set the age of consent between 14 and 16, there's only like Cyprus , Ireland and Turkey where it's 17 or 18.
Load More Replies...Sounds crazy, but is true. However, coercion is forbidden. So, a 14 year old is allowed to have sex with anybody in their own age group and above - which keeps parents out of jail, which is nice. If they have sex under any form of duress, you go to jail. If they are both consenting 13 year olds, it’s against the law.
How about a 65 year old woman and 14 year old boy? Why does it always have to be a dirty old man? Cougars do exist you know. Unlike unicorns and safe spaces
They do exist yes. And it's equally nasty and disgraceful. But it happens way more often with the older man - young girl combo and that is what this is about. Women are not saints and no one said that but if we keep on with "what about"-ism we go nowhere.
Load More Replies...that's not true. 14 year olds are allowed to have sex with other teenagers in Germany. also we have better sex ed than the USA, resulting in less teen pregnancy. and the ability to actually consent
also in italy is 14 (raised to 16 if they've an ascent/descent relation like teacher student)
Banning people getting upset about age of consent laws in counties they do not live in. "Eewww its xx young here." Well guess what, in other places you have to be married to legally have sex and they think YOU are disgusting.
That is not how it works. It just means teenagers can have sex with each other legally if they want to. It's not illegal to have sex when one party is 16 and the other one 19, if no kind of drug is involved, for example. You need to dig deeper in German laws to understand them, this one is quite complicated.
Cigarettes
No need to prohibit anything, actually - just raise the prices to absurd levels! People will stop smoking by their own will.
Load More Replies...Everything causes something. Where do you draw the line? Let people make their own choices. I'm all for banning indoor smoking and where it might bother others, but beyond that live and let live.
Load More Replies...Disagree fully. I should be able to pick my poison. I honestly say let drugs be legal. I don't think it's good for society. But I think the amount and the cleanliness would save lives. There wouldn't be the need for meth houses exploding, or sharing needles between heroin addicts. In the end people will do what they want. But lives could be saved that way.
I think not adding s**t to them would be more what I would say. Tobacco, the straight up leaf, actually isn't that bad for you when it's smoked. It's all the toxic, disgusting additives that cigarette companies use that make it dangerous for everyone, especially those getting the secondhand s**t.
Governments prohibit the use of healing ancestral drugs but not the use of tobacco, which is proven to cause cancer and heart disease. It makes no sense, apart from the fact that they collect high tax on tobacco.
The answer to that is to ban LESS, not more. Tobacco is/was used in rituals and rites as well.
Load More Replies...I'm against banning them as such, but I could certainly make a case for banning: smoking in a park, smoking on a balcony when you have upstairs neighbours, blowing cigarette smoke right in the face of a person walking next to/behind you, and of course throwing cigarette butts everywhere (with special mention to throwing them out the window, often on the sills of your downstairs neighbours).
Female circumcision. Still practiced in many countries. One of the « reasons » for it is the logic that a woman who can’t experience sexual pleasure is less likely to stray. Let that sink in and then google it. I think if I get descriptive this won’t be posted.
cops killing people and death sentences like "killing is bad so lets kill the person who killed people"
I personally believe that a person who committed one crime should be given a second chance. But some people are irredeemable . A person who has raped and killed 3 infants should never set foot on the streets again. (To out an example). Since keeping people locked for life is cruel and expensive I don’t see why death penalty shouldn’t be an option for them. Maybe it could be a choice for the inmate to never be free again or to die. (I would chose the second)
I'm liking that idea, if they have a life sentence give them the option for assisted suicide. Mandatory weekly or biweekly counseling for 6mn-1yr before they qualify.
Load More Replies...I am against the death penalty for one reason: you cannot guarantee that the person who was convicted was actually guilty. Too many "oopsies." It is bad enough going to prison for a crime you did not commit, but at least you are alive. Finding out someone who was executed was not actually guilty does nothing for the wrongly convicted person.

Impossible for years, suddenly it was done in two weeks (before you had to take the paper to your work or send it by post, no email). We saw a lot of compassion and people were helping each other. Then there was 2021, when people started attacking each other for masks. Interesting thing, first reports of "masks do not work" and "masks can suffocate you" were from media connected to Russian troll farms.

Yeah, going to the parents if these spoiled kids does absolutely nothing!!! I've tried with a few of the mean girls, their parents teach them to be bullies. There is a girl in my daughters class that has been sent to the principal over ten times this year alone for her bullying ways. She's been suspended in and out of school and her parents do absolutely nothing. It's easy for people who don't have to deal with their child being picked on to have suggestions, but until you have to wipe the tears of your child for them getting bullied you really don't deserve a say

(i.e. a "new" model car comes out every year, but meaningful changes for that model only happen every ~5+ years, maybe ~3 years for cars)
agree to a point. By your logic, any improvements or technological advancement is prohibited. Talking as a member of a development member who is heavily hindered by old customers on how to do improvements for our product in the future.
On the flipside though, I have a 12 year old car, a 4 year old phone, etc. because I can't afford to replace these things every year or two. Why should I have something I paid for not work as it did when I bought it for a time period that suits me, especially in the case of electronics which are not made obsolete by their own potential lifespan but by software updates designed to MAKE them obsolete?

Of course yours was necessary. The fact is it is usually never the individuals choice. It is made for them by their parents. Which is wrong if there is no reason for it. Hygiene reasons is not a valid reason coz it can be cleaned. If you weren't meant to have a foreskin then you wouldn't be born with one. It's not some kind of mutation that needs to be removed unless deemed medically necessary.

Ironically, in countries with circumcision the rate of cervical cancer in women is much lower. [Scientific American and Lancet]
That's not entirely true. Circumcision has been declining over the years especially in many western countries like the UK, New Zealand and Australia where circumcision is approx less than 20% and the rates of cervical cancer has also declined. The countries with the highest rates of cervical cancer are third world countries where access to clean water is hard to get, pap smears and the HPV vaccine are not readily accessible. You need to look at the statistics as a whole and look at other factors. I did read the lancet article and even that seemed to focus more on men and women in third world countries. It's ironic that the places with the highest rates of cervical cancer are also countries with some of the highest rates of circumcision.

In Australia you have to pay for circumcision unless medically necessary. It's also not really bought up by drs or midwives as an option. The parents are the ones that ask about it.

I always suck at this stuff because I don't think in a "standard" way
This thing came to my country when I was in high school, and the transition felt awful. Even the teachers were frustrated, when we argued that other options could be correct, and they'd say: "You're right, but you need to learn to think like the people who will grade those according to the key". Thankfully that wasn't a thing in uni, where we could again get points for properly arguing our cases.
Derogatory terms like the n-word and f slur
If you mean c**t then that could get awkward coz in Aus and NZ it's a term of endearment
Load More Replies...This is a very slippery slope, guys. Someone for the first time takes umbrage at some everyday word, and boom. It becomes an illegal word. Freedom of speech, anyone? Polite people don't want to upset other people, so they avoid hurtful language, but laws? Bad idea, really bad idea.
This is not my first language, it’s very hard to develop a feeling for the gradual difference in offensiveness of slurs and derogatory terms. I err on the side of caution, but I sometimes wonder if the people who have to face REAL systemic oppression (cf Russia / Belarus / China / Myanmar / etc.etc.) appreciate such efforts. I am old, ugly and fat. I am a woman, I am poor. All of this has been subject of contempt and derision before and will likely continue to be so. However, since there is no political or systemic oppression of me, I have ignored any and all such verbal aggression - couldn’t we focus on real political issues more? Sometimes I wonder if we’re being kept busy discussing our sensitivities while we’re being robbed of a future for our grandchildren.
I copied this comment from vicious_cycle: I agree, but also if it was illegal, it would be stripping away words that people are trying to reclaim. For example, the n-word. When my ancestors were brought over to America in ships, they were called that derogatory word. Now, I as a black person can use it as a way to reclaim my past and heritage.

There are rules (where I live at least) that teachers cannot cross when teaching sex ed (ie, they can't give their own opinion or avoid topics they don't want to cover) whereas there are many parents (as evidenced by the number of kids that don't get told anything except say no, or link it to their religion etc) who chose not to inform all. The entire body of Patent and Copyright law should be thrown out in the Comuputer Age. It now serves stockholders, not creative people, and keeps them from collaborating. Rather than supporting an army of lawyers, we could track the contributors to successful works of all kinds, and recognize them with enough money to continue their work from general revenue.

Depending on the party (not talking about Trump per se). Some parties should not be legal. For example where I live (Belgium) there is a party that is openly xenophobic and racist (Vlaams belang). That should not be legal.

Gas-powered leaf blowers. The engines are filthy, producing hundreds of times more pollution than a car engine. They're dangerously loud to the user and those nearby, but are even annoyingly loud from hundreds of feet away. And most morons who use them always use the highest setting, blasting dirt and pollen a hundred feet around and two stories into the air. Using them to move large amounts of wet leaves in the fall makes some sense, but they’re more often used to blow dirt around, scouring the top soil off the ground, destroying insect and small animal habitat, or just raising a giant dust cloud in an urban environment.
It should be illegal for a governor/state legislature/mayor to reverse a proposition voted in by their constituents.
Political correctness. We have specific words to describe things for the purposes of accuracy. Sometimes the truth hurts. Abandoning accuracy simply for the purposes of sparing someone's feelings is in essence sacrificing the truth for emotion...it is feeding delusion. There has not been a more destructive social force in human interaction than this.
I completely agree. BP is unfortunately a hive of extreme political correctness, so don't expect to be popular around here.
True. I'm amazed at some of the comments. For people who claim to be all inclusive, the hatred spouted at anyone with even a hint of a conservative view is appalling sometimes.

Free speech. It isn't pleasant but most of us do it. What annoys me the most is somebody reporting back to the victim what gossip is being said and it's the one doing the reporting back who is usually the instigator of the gossip or they have claimed that the third party was talking bad about the victim.
Spending more than two months for political campaigns in the U.S.
Allowing children to overeat when you know for a fact that they are already battling health complications due their diet or weight.
Playing music or watching a video on your phone, in public, sans headphones.
Disability scooter owners should have to pass some kind of test to drive on public roads.
Most disability scooters are not street legal. If they are on the street they are in violation of the law. Disability scooter user here.
Definitely. And some are using it as a form of transport when they can easily walk to a bus stop and beyond.
It’s not up to you to judge who can and cannot “simply” walk to a bus stop.

Flying buffalo are endangered and people need to stop hunting them for their wings
touching your phone even with a single finger while driving. safety first!
In my country, it is. You get a ticket and a "clip" on your license. 3 times, and you lose the license.
Same in my country, but you also get a fine. Only allowed hands free and probationary drivers not even allowed that.

Mustard juce
There are a couple things that confuse me in this comment section but I think they can be solved by politely asking what is “mustard juce” (juice?).
Mustard juice is the watery stuff that comes out of the bottle when it isn't shaken first (sometimes even when you shake it a lot). Nasty stuff, especially when you unknowingly spray it onto your hotdog and either have to deal with a soggy mustard bun or get a new one

The front door frame should be altered so their front door is a swing door that only shut when locked and so can't be slammed. And only have plastic concertina doors inside their home. Or who have loud TV or music on late at night when they could use headphones. The same ones who have blaring music out of wide open windows when it's warm and then swig cheap beer all day as they are thirsty when they could be drinking tea, water or juice.
Landlords and council noise departments who don't deal with people like that.
Influencers....as it seems to make so many of them feel they are entitled to 'free' and the people that follow them don't seem to have their own thoughts any more.
The take away from this is that so many things are legal in the USA that are illegal and actively enforced in the U.K. and Europe.
Here's one for you: Websites reusing stories from over a year ago, adding one or two new things, and presenting it as an entirely new article.
BoredPanda why are you continually recycling and reposting articles from over a year ago? What in the world is happening to this site anymore from the censorship to the constant reposting? You have actual employees who are trained as writers, why in the world aren’t you using them?! I’m sick of lazy reposts and these constant “am I the a*****e” articles? What happened to all the art and fun articles on this site? Do the writers even write anymore?
Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what. No matter where. Or who, or who you are with, or where you are going or... or where you've been... ever. For any reason, whatsoever.
