There are arguably as many beautiful creatures in the world as there are creepy ones. But since they’re not as pleasant to look at, the latter might not appear on your news feed as often as puppies or kittens do.

Well, today we want to shed light on the underdogs, the eyesores, the fascinating yet at the same time disgusting creations of Mother Nature. If you think you’re brave enough to see them, scroll down to find an entire list of some of the most bizarre-looking creatures out there. But if you are squeamish about spiders, weird aquatic beings, and reptiles, among other similar things, you might want to check out some dog memes instead.

Here at Bored Panda we were curious to learn more about all sorts of weird-looking beings, so we got in touch with the evolutionary biologist and Professor at the Department of Biology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Robert Montgomerie, who was kind enough to answer a few of our questions. If you’re curious, too, scroll down to see what the professor had to say about them.

You can actually see where the water line had been, and for long enough to leave that permanent mark.

Those are my favorites too, we have them around here and some get a lot bigger than u would so I love it when I finally get to see one it the fall when they are full grown. Especially when my cat b3ings on home (always alive) and it is standing at its full height with its wings open and my cat not knowing what to make of it. So I of course take it back put side and deposit it as hugging in the trees as i can.

There are several species of and crabs that live in some forests. Those big red crabs that are seen in a yearly mass migration have to lay their eggs in the ocean and then travel back to the forest and about a month later thousands upon thousands of tiny little replicas walk out of the ocean and in to the forest.

We have a ménage a trois of daddy long legs that keep coming back to our mailbox, no matter how many times we evict them (gently, by sweeping them up with a stick, then putting the stick on the ground), they keep coming back. Always quickly and always three, so I swear it’s the same ones.

U don't mess with a tokay gecko, they are aggressive and like to bite, but for some odd reason they are sold as pets in many stores that carry reptiles

I guess the reason is that they're "cool" like many wild animals kept as pets in general plus their ability to walk vertical glass walls.

Not horrific, and I say that as someone who has been clipped by crab claws that actually drew blood, and a lot of it. Stepped on a crab when I was 9, and the claw sliced that bit of web between my big toe and the toe next to it. Sliced all the way through it, like a pair of sharp scissors. Hurt like hell, but healed up just fine, and crazy fast for some reason (maybe because I was 9?).

I think it’s hilarious how scared of buffalo the average person is. But then they see buffalo burgers on the menu and their mouth waters. I also think it’s hilarious how scared of alligators the average person is. But then they see that particular pair of alligator oxfords they’ve always wanted and their mouth waters. There is nothing wrong with exercising caution around a creature who can potentially harm you. We know lobsters could use their claws, but they’d have to clip us at an artery, or on the airhose of our diving cylinder (if we’re down too deep to hold our breath long enough to swim up to the surface) to kill us. Spiders are another story entirely, unless you really know your species, you could be encountering one who’s harmless, or not. Wise to err on the side of caution.

Oh I just saw something like this in a Florida couples home after hurricane Ian. The independent insurance adjuster said they need over 200k in repairs including a new roof. The desk adjuster illegally changed it, per companies instruction, to 15k, after the deductible they got 9,000 and two years later they still have not been able to afford a roof and now have molds like this growing inside the house. It was a coordinated effort of several insurance companies to defraud victims of hurricane Ian.

I'm Pretty Sure I Came Across The Scene Of A Crime This Afternoon

I'm Pretty Sure I Came Across The Scene Of A Crime This Afternoon

The smaller spider looks like a widow to me. At first, I thought it was a black widow, but it has more of a brown color, and I don't recognize the red stripe. Plus, its web is in an exposed location above a window on the outside of our house. What is it?

The bigger one (the victim, I think) is curled up, not moving, and partially wrapped in webbing. I thought it might be a tarantula, but I'm not sure. It has really fuzzy legs and body.
