Iām Convinced To Learn Fencing
Signs are an unavoidable part of our lives. We need them to get from one place to another when driving in the car, to advertise events and information, to learn the daily specials at our favorite restaurant, to know whether to push or pull a door to avoid making a fool of ourselves and to know if our car will get towed for parking in that spot that looks suspiciously available. Signs are all around us. And while most of them look similar to one another, sometimes they are made by great designers who ensure that they stand out and get their point across in the most effective way.
To learn more about the importance of great signage, we reached out to Tim Harrelson, CEO of the South Carolina based company The Sign Chef. “Between the physical world and the online world, the competition for attention is at an all time high,” Tim told Bored Panda. “Simultaneously, attention spans seem to be at an all time low. Our senses are constantly being bombarded! Moving forward, organizations need to be strategic in how the content is displayed on their signs.”

We also asked Tim how the process of designing signs works for him and his company. “Most graphic designers start with the size of the sign - then the lettering & graphics are added. Think backwards," he explained. "A more strategic approach can be taken by having the design reverse engineered for maximum impact. This design strategy starts with the viewing distance. How far away does your target audience need to be able to read the sign?”
“Once the distance is measured, a Letter Sizing Calculator can be used to scientifically determine the very best letter sizes,” Tim continued. “As an example, what is the best letter size if the viewing distance is 110 feet? When you type 110 feet into the calculator, you’ll instantly see 22 inches is recommended for maximum impact - easy.”
I Adopted 2 Miles Of The Pacific Coast Highway Last Year. Iāve Gone Out Almost Every Day And Iāve Picked Up Over 100 Bags Worth Of Trash
Today my adoption signs were finally installed
Good work... we all need to first stop throwing thrash anywhere and everywhere... and stop to collect & clean.
Our motorcycle group adopted a highway in western New York state. It's a fun and helpful thing to do together.
This has been a topic in an "lustiges Taschenbuch" (simliar to Donald duck pocket books) , where the people of the City got parts of it, because duckburg had no money and there where Waste and dort all over the City. When the people got their parts they cared for it (like vakuuming the sidewalk xD) and the City became totally clean
Very admirable. But, don't you already taxes for these spaces to be kept clean?
Suburban design is such a ponzi scheme that it's not actually possible to collect enough taxes to pay for basic repairs and maintenance on roads or adjacent infrastructure, so there's definitely not money lying around to pick up after disgusting litterbugs. The only thing paying for repairs and maintenance on existing infrastructure is taxes collected from new construction (hence why it's a ponzi scheme) and occasional infrastructure bills that only serve to bail out our ongoing failure that is the American suburban experiment.
Load More Replies...As someone from CA and who adores my beloved coastline, I thank you for your service.
I am so impressed with the task to have taken on & are accomplishing! Bravo! My family farm in the mid Willamette Valley of Oregon has less than a quarter mile dividing the farm in two, of US Hwy 20. 5 miles south to one town 8 north to another . The TRASH IS TERRIBLE, adds up to tons annually. These days the country work release inmate do the cleaning & I am oh so thankful! You are a saving grace!
To require individuals to personally correct the failures of the collective is to support further failures of the collective. Taken to its logical extreme, this results in a society where the general welfare is left to the discretion of individuals, leaving government no function other than corruption..
I'm just hoping OP is seeing a reduction in the volume as he removes the waste that's may have been there years, so he can continue to see the improvement and it doesn't get as bad between each litter pick.
I adopted a two mile stretch of hiway and challenged an entire graduating class at the local school to match my efforts. By the time it was done I had completed my side of the road alone and was coming back down theirs. By the time the trash bags were tallied I had 3 and 1/2 as many times the bags as an entire group of High school students and won a bet. The bet was that if they had more bags than me I buy them lunch. If I win they buy mine. An unfair bet from the start but I was trying to get them to see what a problem littering is. I had tried to make an impact and lasting impression on their lives. Plus I got a Steak Finger basket and a Blizzard to boot!
They go through a process of "adopting" a section of road/highway, which is a formal process involving submitting paperwork. This means they pledge to pick up trash on that stretch of road, and eventually thet get a sign Installed to make their community service official.
Load More Replies...More people should do this. I've seen official groups and businesses represented but never individuals. **Volunteer Goals!!**
what does that say about the litterbugs ? He cleans it up and the next day there's more.
I know this little, winding highway . . . . .thank you for doing this . . . .bless you
Well done you but what a sad and sorry indictment of many people in the US today.
Thank you for doing this and I am sad that people have caused this to be necessary
Can you put the garbage that puts out the trash, in the trash as well?
You're awesome! Others can learn to at least pick up after themselves. Thank you, it does matter.šš
Itās sad that a lot of our humanitarian work are done through volunteers and children
They put up your sign but didn't repair the smashed side rail or the smash light pole. And from the amount of discoloration of the wood, looks like that all happened awhile ago.
Not that you should have to. What kind of heathens throw trash out of a car? Jerks.
Load More Replies...Wow! I'm really impressed with what a tremendous task you have taken on & are accomplishing. Our family farm in the mid Willamette Valley of Oregon has USHwy 20 cutting our family farm in two, less than a quarter mile of Hwy 5 miles from one town 8 from another & the TRASH IS TERRIBLE. & literally produces tons. CD ukhbi One time I was standing, waiting to cross for my mail & a guy tossed his leftover burger out & I ended up with catsup & pickles & lettuce on my legs. I don't believe the guy even saw me or intended to hit me, just a casual act of easy disposal!
Gad....that's a lot of trash....I guess people love to litter on your 2 miles??
So sad that people have to do this to keep the country free of trash.
So awesome, in so many ways! I'll be sure to visit the Jacob section of the road. Love this!

BP, why make the list so long, we all know you are going to cut this down to around 50. Make THREE lists and post on different weeks. Some of the higher number ones are probably pretty amazing, but in a few hours they won't be visible
I really like that idea, also there are probably only a handful who go down the entire list and vote, this the last entries have less of a chance of being in top 30.
