Your home is your castle. But your castle doesn’t have to have chilly corridors, flickering torches, crumbling walls, and chain-clanking ghosts. It can be comfortable and cozy. It can look great and inviting. It can look, well, like a home.

However, interior design isn’t something that everyone’s great at. Sometimes, we need a bit of help. A tad of inspiration. And a splash of scrolling through Instagram. That’s where the Call It Design IG page comes in.

It’s an account with nearly 55k followers and it features some truly incredible examples of modern design decisions from around the world. From interior design and architecture to artistic pieces of furniture and flair, it’s a real treasure trove for anyone who wants to liven up their home. It could be improved... Make a railing attached to it, with the upper one being a horizontal bar when the stairs are up. With that bar you can lower them all to. Wished I could print images from head, easier than a vague incomplete description.

What makes modern interior design look good depends on whom you ask. There’s a lot of artistic choices involved and we all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So what might look incredibly stylish and minimalistic to one person might look bleak and dreary to someone else. Nonetheless, beauty isn’t completely subjective and there are certain things that make contemporary design look good.

According to San Francisco Design, modern designs are all about “emphasizing a few key pieces without overwhelming the space.”

    Less. Is. More.

    Keep. It. Simple.

    Don’t. Overdo. It.

The San Francisco Design team explains that modernism goes incredibly well with minimalism. So when you’re picking out furniture and other design pieces, try to focus on simplistic and functional things.

“Modern style incorporates bold and rigidly structured design in a captivating way. In your home, focus on bold, sharp edges to add the angular structures that are so characteristic of modern design,” they explain, suggesting that we also look at edges and angles and how they fit in with the entire space.

Meanwhile, when it comes to modern materials, you should aim for those that give off a clean and straightforward energy. Stainless steel, muted metal, and glass are materials that can modernize your home and make you look like a real interior design expert. And don’t forget about wood!

I would think that a ladder is better? Knowing how I was when I was younger I would slip down those small stairs after trying to run up them too fast and roll all the way down. Actually probably I wouldn’t even use them at all going down probably just jump onto my sleeping sibling in the lower bunk

I love sliding doors. they use less space since they can just be built to slide into the walls, and easier to use in my opinion. they were very common in Japan homes but not too much in anywhere else especially in my country.

I don't think the ridges need to be rounded since I have little (and see very little) problems with cleaning outer edges/corners. The grooves with their inner edges on the other hand, those I would make more rounded.

Sinks actually use to be build like this back in the 60's and 70's. My mom's house had something similar.

Not modern. Most sinks use to be made this way, then in the 60's and 70s it went away. My husband keeps looking for homes with original sink boards and counters from the 30's and 40's for this feature.

It's a fancy draining board, and looks less practical than the standard one in most UK homes.

This is art, not architecture. Look at those upper stairs, see there's no rail, see the edge of the stair has that slope. Now imagine accidentally stepping a little too close to that radius and tumbling over and onto the stairs below. Yep. A cool photo is the only thing these are good for.

Visually appealing, practical nightmare. Even a steady sober person would fall and break something if they put a foot wrong, nevermind a young, elderly, or disabled person. Coupled with the lack of handrails this is very pretty garbage. (Although that being said, I suddenly want to see what it would look like as a spiral staircase.)

I've seen photos of this before, and it's a virtuoso piece of design. It takes up very little space in the house, too. However precision bending the wood and installing it are so expensive that I suspect that this is the first and only time it will actually be built.

We stayed here in 2019! There was an Airbnb apartment on the second floor right under this rock. We flipped out when we arrived and realized how magical it was. Technically, it's not a rock but rather the underside of the cliff, which creates a shallow but lengthy cave. We loved Setenil de la Bodega, a town that is bustling with day visitors who make a 20-minute stop on guided bus tours. At night, the place is serene and atmospheric.

If you try something like this, be careful. Striping a piano down can be dangerous. Pianos have pieces that are under extreme tension because of the wires. Consult a piano repair person and tell them what you intend to do. Best if they did it.

Architecture has rules, no architect would place a bedroom right under some stranger's pool. This could be the bedroom private pool or something else, but most probably that pool has restricted access

This is terrible design. While it's cute, it's completely impractical... The brush goes into the toilet quite deep, so the top of the lid there will also get nasty, so defeats the point really...

I didn't even notice that. Depending on the depth of the toilet, you might not even be able to use it where it counts.

Looks like they use different species for each type of piece, so just memorization. The species selected for each type looks to have a somewhat relatable look to it, well maybe not the horse but it would be the "odd one out" then.

Both! Any kind of succulent or low maintenance plant has become super popular, especially in a lot of minimalist spaces because in general they're pretty contained- and hard to kill. As they showed up in a lot of design images (and Instagram images) they became even more popular and fashionable. They've really been having a moment for a while now. I myself am more of a lemon tree girl.

The water would get cold in a millisecond. Built in Japanese soaking tubs are better. They're deep enough to sit in with a tiny footprint, and since they're built in, you can insulate them so the water stays hot as long as you want it to.

So instead of "taking up" just the width of one story they take up that times the number of stories. Outside of looking nice I'm not sure what the benefit is compared to just "stacking" them on top of each other.

I'd prefer if the rebar was treated... visually interesting but not practical.

Now you to can experience bathing in the gutter in a subway station. Hepatitis and over-large Norway rats not included.

That seems like a really tiny bathtub, and there is just a singular lemon? Sure, a lemon bath, all fun and games until you get it in your eyes

It's a futon without the frame. NOT practical at all.

That needs an industrial polisher taking to it... I find the design too clunky to fit in a relatively small bathroom.
