When it comes to trivia, you most likely won't benefit from knowing why James Michael Tyler got to play Gunther the barista in Friends or why a super-rich Swedish man bought a chunk of the Amazon rainforest. But on the off-chance that your local pub quiz master decides to ask about these things, better come prepared!
And an excellent place to do so is at "Mind Blowing Facts." It's a shame such an invention had to take. Women aren't safe anywhere including their houses.
Especially in their houses since most attacks are happening from people we know rather than strangers
Load More Replies...Source? /edit: thanks for the replies. What an absolute bummer that the concept didn't work out, it was brilliant!
Load More Replies...it doesn't exist, but there is alternatives https://metro.co.uk/2022/01/07/stay-close-can-you-buy-nail-varnish-that-detects-a-spiked-drink-15883127/
Actually no. This isn't true. They invented the idea. It has actually never been made, tested or proven to work. I was watching "stay close" on Netflix where one of the girls had it and used it and I got curious so I looked it up to buy some for my step sister and her friends who go out a lot (pre covid) and who are still in school and it's actually never been made. I don't even think it's being made as we speak. I could be wrong but I scoured the internet in hopes of finding some and finding out when it would be available and I couldn't find a single piece of information talking about where it's being produced and when it will be on the market or even that it's being worked on at all.
I looked it up after watching Stay Close too because it seemed a brilliant idea & (sadly) something it'd be useful to have. Whilst they didn't make the nail polish they ended up making Sip Chips, tokens you put a drop of your drink on in a similar style to a pregnancy test or an LFT with a line showing up if it's positive for drugs. Unfortunately they're $12 for a pack of 3 single use chips plus silly amounts of postage & customs for those of us in the UK, making the overall cost of the chips pricier than the drinks they'd be testing! Its a real shame nobody's working on the nail polish any more - although maybe the show gave some clever chemist types out there the inclination to give it a go, it sure made enough people Google the product!
Load More Replies...Just googled it, it’s called Undercover Color. And it’s not listed anywhere on their website, so I’m assuming it didn’t work after all. They do list “sip chip” testers, but nothing is available for sale. Le sigh.
If only the spent their time trying to educate men on not drugging and raping women instead, perhaps they would have had more success.
People know!! But obviously criminals are going to be criminals.
Load More Replies...Can’t mixing Xanax with alcohol literally kill you? It can relax you so much that you stop breathing. People who play with the lives of others are disgusting!!
It's pretty hard to die on benzodiazepines. Sure, both alcohol and benzodiazepines works on the GABA-system so it could increase the effect but you would have to drink heavily and/or have a large amount of Xanax to suffer potential loss of breath.
Load More Replies...What the hell is the matter with you BP!! Words like rape, suicide, death, dead, sex and kill are all normal everyday words used in the news, on TV etc. There is noth obscene or blasphemous about them. Behave like adults and have the decency to treat your followers as adults as well. Stop being so bloody anally retentive
What's crazy is that on YouTube your can't say thinks like anorexic, bulimic or eating disorder... but you can watch people like Eugenia Cooney literally slowly kill themselves while having an eating disorder on there. They won't demonize her for basically promoting Eating disorders and for her videos frequently coming up on algorithms for children and teens who suffer from EDs.... but you can't say the word itself. You can't say "child abuse" but you can literally watch videos of children being abused as well.... how f****d up is that.
Load More Replies...I was thinking same thing, not sacrificing millions but donating for a good cause.

Not all millionaires are arseholes who uselessly shoot penis-shaped rockets into space. Good to know. This man is exceptional.
Surprisingly, going through (and applying) random facts can also be good for your mental health. Experts say that playing trivia games can provide a dopamine rush much like gambling, but without the negative effects.
Even if the actual games differ, the benefits are there nonetheless. Whether we're playing Trivial Pursuit at home or attending a pub trivia night, the basic premise remains the same: we experience the thrill of providing correct answers to questions about lesser-known facts.
Is Jannah another word for heaven or paradise or something? It’s not one I’ve heard before.

No child should be able to even identify a threat like this, let alone have the ability to eliminate it. THIS is the true cost of war. Children being forced to die as adults.
Having the ability to do such thing is totally fine. It's having the need to do it that sucks.
Load More Replies...Makes me crazy! I saw them censor a Shakespear quote the other day because it had the word 'kill' in it. Likely that will get censored so, in case it does, that word again was 'k 1 l l"

This is awesome. But it is NOT the farmed honey bees at risk, it is all the other species of native bes and pollinators in trouble. It’d be better if he just had all the flowers and left it 100% to the non-farmed pollinators.

We have a similar gang here. They also accompany bullied kids to school to let their bullies know that a biker gang has their back.
The irony of it is, the image is actually from Adelaide, in South Australia.
Load More Replies...A few years ago there were idiots causing problems at our cities Pride events. BACA showed up to the family Pride picnic to make sure none of the troublemakers could get in or even start anything outside of the park. The bikers were awesome people and had a blast with everyone, enjoying snow cones, getting their faces painted, drawing on the sidewalk in chalk and making crafts. They even let a lot of kids sit and get pics taken on their bikes!
BACA kinda seems like saying 'Baka' to the abuser... ('Baka; means fool in Japanese). The fist works too.
And I thought this was A.C.A:B. printed back to front

It’s sort of like gambling.”
Stop with the redactions! Everyone knows what the bloody word is. If someone is so triggered by some letters then maybe they need to be in a padded room.
Also, l'd expect it only brings more focus at the censored word, not less.

What’s with all the blacking out of two or three letters in words like “kill” and “suicide”? Since when are they cuss words, or “trigger” words?
I'm sorry, could we not censor the word suicide? There is enough horrible stigma attached to suicide already. Inexplicably, the work "kill" is also censored. Why??
Suicide is real BP. Omitting 2 letters will not change that
So now we're censoring the word suicide as well? BP, what is wrong with you guys?!?!?
What is wrong with people that they would do that to the poor bunny?
They care more about hurting the homeless man than they do about the poor bunny.
Load More Replies...I'm surprised the poor bunny lived! They are super sensitive and can have a heart attack over pretty much anything.
should have thrown the passerby in the river aswell, see if anyone cares enough to resuscite him/her.
And here's where I stop reading. I cannot stomach cruelty to animals or children. On top of that, someone tried to kill the likely only good thing in this poor man's life? I'm out.
Rabbits are so sensitive. The shock alone could have killed her. What a terrible person to have done such a thing. I love him and his bun though
Actually, I think that cub is eating his leg while mama bear distracts him......
Especially when they have cubs. I'm wondering, too. It IS an awesome photo though...
Load More Replies...Um, polar bears will and do eat humans. If mama is hungry and caring for cubs, she'd eat the man, not whatever it is he's offering her. This photo is either faked, or there's a story that needs explaining.
OMFG!!! You forget to censor the word "killing!" And absolutely nothing bad happened!
Oh great now all the idiots out there will feed the bears and they will become expectant for humans with food and attack when they don't get. SMDH
This was about 40 years ago. Also, their extinction is probably a more pressing concern, wouldn’t you say?
Load More Replies...Aww, the bears are cute, especially the baby chewing on the guy's kneecap, but this is such a baaaad idea. Where I live the saying is "a fed bear is a dead bear." Fed bears lose their life saving fear of humans and develop habits that can result in them being put down when they associate food with humans and seek it out in inhabitated areas. What bears need is habitat and for polar bears that means dealing with climate change. THAT is how we need to save these gorgeous animals. Since they are an apex predator they are especially important for the health of the arctic ecosystem. Fight climate change!!
Kounios said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing a video game.
However, unlike gambling and even video games, Kounios said trivia is generally not a problematic habit.

Imagine if other countries did that! It would revolutionise the world!!
I spoke with a police officer about this when I was out there, I asked if they ever worried about another country seeing them as a weak target and invading? He said just said 'No. It takes 2 people to have a fight and 2 countries to have a war. If you don't fight, there is no war'. It took me a few years to really appreciate the logic, now I think it would be nice if everyone thought like that.
Tell Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway that. They were neutral before ww2 but were invaded anyways.
Load More Replies...However their national police force also had lots of armored vehicles and machine guns..not exactly no army other than name. But also they have a treaty with the US that we protect them in case they are attacked. There are many countries without militaries, they tend to be small and all have treaties with bigger powers to protect them, most of them with the USA, Australia, or the UK. In the case of Andorra, it is Spain.
The UK is not without weapons and it's not a small country. It has a huge navy and sells weapons to the Saudis. No treaty is as good as having your own army if indeed you need one since any ally can be in impossibility to help. You clearly have no idea about military strategy.
Load More Replies...The US pays about $50 million a year for Costa Rican security as well as having a high Coast Guard presence in their waters. Good for them though. Education is the best way to avoid/win war.
Yes, the U.S. picks up the tab so they can spend their money on schools.
Load More Replies...Yeah that’s all great and all, until you are attacked by a country that invested in tanks and soldiers.
What they did in the old days is just raise the flag of the country that invaded them. No need for war anymore
Load More Replies...That s**t wouldn't fly in the States, we prefer to waste as much money as possible on military 'toys' while simultaneously not taking care of the Veterans we lovingly gave PTSD too all in the name of war. Imagine nothing to kill or die for, imagine all the people sharing all the world.
Would be even better if they had a social and healthcare system that allowed them a few days off to take care of a sick spouse. After 30(!!) years of hard work that needs to be possible without having to worry about daily income. You shouldn't have to rely on stranger's charity for that.
True. Still nice of them to do so to help the owner out. And since they have no idea what it means to not be financially crippled if you get sick, this seems the best they can do to help.
Load More Replies...The US is the only 'first' world country that present dystopian nightmare stories as feel good stories.
@Did D: Without the US attacking w***y-nilly (usually because they want their resources, like oil, never because they want to 'save' someone), you wouldn't have all those countries and terrorists wanting to destroy you.
Load More Replies...If we had an actual healthcare system in the U.S., these nice customers wouldn't have to do this.
When you own your own business, like a bakery, you don't have a set income. Set expenses, yes. How would any health care system calculate how much income he is losing if he has to close. It's a drawback to being self employed but for many, they wouldn't want to earn a living any other way. Very cool, that he has such loyal customers!
Well, just because you can't come up with an idea how to solve this complex problem, it doesn't mean, there isn't any. In switzerland the social securities take what you made the last 12 month, make an average out of it, and will pay you 80% of that. If you have insurance on top, you could get more (and since that amount is fixed, you could end up with more than than 100%). Not a perfect system, but hey: would you rather get nothing, or have to hope that others help you out?
Load More Replies...Sometimes we think of the brain as an endless library, whose shelves house our most precious memories as well as our lifetime's knowledge. But is there a point where it reaches maximum capacity? In other words, can the brain get full?
The short answer is no. Brains are more sophisticated than that: a study published in Nature Neuroscience revealed that instead of just crowding in, old information is sometimes pushed out of the brain for new memories to form.
I wonder whether any billionaires feel like giving Native Americans some legal support to get their actual lands back...?
Would that make lots of todays Americans homeless? Sorry, I don't know what became of that land, only that it was taken away from them.

Load More Replies...In the expression "Swedish billionaire", I believe "Swedish" is the real operative word that might explain this beautiful gesture (and mind), in the sense that it's not driven by capitalism. American billionaires should take note.
at that rate it would cost 56 Billion dollars to buy the Amazon Rainforest. Bezos could do that and still only have 120 Billion dollars left over.
If you're right about that, it's mind-boggling and really puts the amount of money he has in perspective.
Load More Replies...The Three Billionaires together aren't half the man this millionaire is.
For years Libertarian Enviromentalists had suggested this, and GreenPeace fought against it (they insisted only govt solution were acceptable), and even got some countries to make doing this illegal. However the Libertarian Enviromentalists partnered with this man and others to protect rain forrests.
What was the reason GreenPeace wanted a government solution?

WTF, why do we (the Stares) get all the selfish millionaires, and worst yet, billionaires while Sweden gets these kind of millionaires.
I'm sure there's a bunch of good ones in the US too, but I hear you. It does seem like there's a cultural difference and Sweden, comparatively speaking, places more importance on community, shared humanity and environmentalism.

Most native people of the Americas are kind, empathetic people, heck, they allow the general public to join in at their pow wows, which I love, because I get to directly meet and greet and support the artists and vendors who sell their creations there and I get to watch their customs of thousands of years, all of which I am eternally grateful for. On top of that FRY BREAD IS MANNA FROM HEAVEN!!!
I studied the Irish Potato Famine in a Irish Culture class in college, they never taught us this, and no one mentioned it when we traveled to Ireland.
I'm Irish and it was talked about , taught in primary school and was always acknowledged. That and frederick Douglas
Load More Replies...Stop calling it the Potato Famine. There was potato blight across Europe; it was colonial genocide. They exported food while people starved. By they, I mean the British and their landlords. It's called The Great Famine in Ireland. Killed over 1 million, another million-plus emigrated. Ireland's population recovered...a couple months ago. From a 19th century famine. This might explain why the Choctaw felt compelled to help.
Scientists wanted to investigate what happens in the brain when we try to remember information that’s very similar to what we already know. (This is important because similar information is more likely to interfere with existing knowledge, and it’s the stuff that crowds without being useful.)
So they examined how brain activity changes when we try to remember a target memory, that is, when we try to recall something very specific, at the same time as trying to remember something similar (a competing memory).
This is what life after death looks like... and it's more real than anything religion can promise.
Crying? No no. I'm just cosplaying a waterfall again. A very fun thing to cosplay.
Killed, BP. Killed is not a slur, and there's zero reason to censor it in a post about poached animals.

Wish Big Pharma would have that same attitude to life-saving medicines such as vaccines, insulin, ventolin, etc.
It was developed by the same guy that worked to develop ejector seats for fighter pilots at Saab.
Researchers taught participants to associate a single word (for example, the word sand) with two different images – such as one of Marilyn Monroe and the other of a hat.
They discovered that as the target memory was recalled more often, brain activity for it increased. At the same time, brain activity for the competing memory simultaneously weakened. This change was most prominent in regions near the front of the brain, such as the prefrontal cortex, rather than key memory structures in the middle of the brain, such as the hippocampus, which is traditionally associated with memory loss.
There's a documentary about this woman's life called "Queen Mimi". She's absolutely fascinating- I highly recommend watching it, if you can.
What a good man. This is how we are supposed to treat one another. Sadly, however, the moment one is no longer a spring chicken, one becomes invisible and forgotten. This is because recognizing and remembering old people is terrifying; it acknowledges the fact that there's nothing any of us can do to stop the increasingly rapid slide toward the grave. Or "There but for the grace of god..." Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go contemplate something _really_ depressing. LOL

Load More Replies...The prefrontal cortex is involved in a range of complex cognitive processes, such as planning, decision making, and selective retrieval of memory. Existing research shows this part of the brain works in combination with the hippocampus to retrieve specific memories.
If the hippocampus is the search engine, the prefrontal cortex is the filter that determines which memory is the most relevant — this suggests that storing information alone is not enough for a good memory. The brain also has to be able to access the relevant information without being distracted by competing pieces of data.

Load More Replies...“I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone.”
I felt the most lonely when I was in a dead marriage. Now that I'm single and live alone, I've never been happier! People would probably feel less lonely if they poked their heads out of their lonely place and helped others, joined a fun hobby club, a gym, volunteer at any number of places that help the community.....etc.
The most attractive people are the people who need other people the least.
This is how I feel too; I'm in a relationship but it's the best of both worlds. We live in the same building, enjoying each other's company as well as time apart. Sometimes we just hang out doing our own thing in companionable silence. I have felt endlessly alone in every other relationship I've had up until now.
ANY ONE can be lonely, it is not a thing selectively for single people.
However, don't be scared. In daily life, forgetting actually is actually beneficial.
Imagine that you lost your bank card. The new card you receive will come with a new PIN. Research in this field suggests that each time you remember the new code, you gradually forget the old one. This process improves access to relevant information, without old memories interfering.

Many people don't realize that, less than 200 years ago, the entire country of India was covered with forests. But starting in 1857 it became British colonial policy to cut down every tree on both sides of every roadway for a distance of 5 kilometers on either side. Every roadway in the entire country. This essentially deforested India, making what was once forest into desert, and transformed the rainfall and temperature patterns, as well. What was the purpose of all of this tree cutting? Great Britain began its official military takeover of India in 1857 in order to protect the financial interests of the East India Company. The clear cutting was to prevent Indians from setting up ambushes to attack the British soldiers.
I could see 5 meters, even maybe 50 if you want to build on the roadsides, but 5 kilometers?! That's ridiculous.

Load More Replies...While Ubisoft did offer to help in any way, and did donate money, they did not offer to hand over plans from the game. This is because while it obviously looks and represents Notre Dame in the game, there were a lot of changes made to accommodate game play and details were also altered. None of the sculptures, paintings, window details, etc. in the game were authentic to the real thing. This is due in part to France's copyright laws.. And after all "...cathedrals aren’t designed with murder in mind. But for the sake of Assassin’s Creed, Notre-Dame had to be."
They didn't hand over the plans. They handed over their scans and pictures they took. Like you said, everything had to be altered to meet business needs but the original reference images are still accurate. One instance I saw was they had close up photos used to model pews for the game that included the plaque of who donated the bench 100s of years ago. That one bench will be reproducible just because of that picture.

And I just discovered that one of my friends who barely finished high school is an antivaxxer who "refuses to put poisons in his children's' bodies" because clearly barely graduating high school gives you a superior understanding of science than that of the people who dedicated their lives understanding how organic chemistry works!
Its the Dunning-Kruger effect. A person overvalues their own competence because they are too ignorant to know how ignorant they are. Ignorance is not stupidity or the ability to reason. Its the lack of knowledge. That friend of yours doesn't have the tools to understand organic chemistry so he is left with sources who abuse his ignorance instead of trying to eliminate it. He can understand those sources so that's what he has to judge the world. Don't forget confirmation bias - we'd literally rather die than accept a source that does not confirm what we think we already know.

Uses non toxic chemicals in the processing I've heard, but I haven't heard what they are, seems to be worded very specifically ("PVC free" rather than "plastic free" is very specific). I very much expect that this, like every hyped plant leatherette I've seen, is not plastic free.

Load More Replies...i am not really sure if leather is actually environmentally unfriendly. i have leather purse that is 36 years old and still on very well condition. i use it nearly every day, just like my mom did before me. even though there were chemicals involved in production - how many vegan leather (=plastic) purses would have gone to waste in this time?
In this case 'environmentally unfriendly' = 'using animal products'. I'm vegetarian but even I know that if cows are still killed for meat, using their hide for leather makes far more sense and is way more respectful to the animal.
Load More Replies...... I always wonder how people never caring about ecological impacts become advocats for the oh-so-natural and oh-so-environmentally-flawless leather whenever it is confronted with an at least cruelty-free alternative. Also - whatever may be not perfect with plantbased leather alternatives, them not being made of a killed animal gives them a headstart at least. I guess it's not about facts and their comparison, but about being against anything vegan just because. Can't explain this any different.

She did not want do die in a hospice without any members of her family around her and I wasn't going to let that happen. Not after all she did for me. It was my last gift to her and I was more than happy to be able to do that for her. I will always miss you and love you Mum.
I was with both of my parents when they died. Hardest thing I have ever done.

Sadly in the England you are not allowed to donate blood if you have ever received a transfusion.
I love wild kratts. Can't find the newer episodes though. Not on Netflix.
Load More Replies...Important info. If you are attacked by a big ol' reptilian (and I don't mean the Bush family) you have a couple of options. Hard to stay clear in the moment, but maybe one day it will save your life. If you can stick your fingers up their nose, they are likely to release. If you can poke their eyes in some way, that will also cause them to release you. If you are in the water (most likely place for an attack) and you have an arm or leg in the mouth, try and push that limb, or another limb as far as you can into its mouth. There is a flap at the back of their throat that stops the water going into their lungs when their mouth is open. If you can nudge that flap, water will go in and they will very quickly release you. They mostly attack in or close to water. If you have to run from one, run away from water. You do not need to run zigzag or anything like that. You just run.
At least in Florida. Here in Montana, it might not prove so useful.

I hope all towns and cities will operate like this. If you need something, you purchase the digital file. It will then be made to order at the local recycling center using recycled material. 3D printing is getting more and more capable everyday. One day most materials will cycle in a loop within a city, with periodic injections of new material shipped around the world.
Load More Replies...Thinking about it, if we ever do colonise other planets, that'll really cut down on cargo. You can just 3D print everything you need.
Still need the stuff you use to print and it will take more room as plastic in containers then as finished tools. There’s print and packaging waste.

0.8*1.4=1.12 - which translates into 12 % overall increasation of performance, which I think is the most win-win ever to achieve by mere rescheduling an otherwise unchanged situation. Less work hours and therefore more staff should be the norm among those jobs that require a lot of education and offer good pay - were I to live on my own and not support parents, I'd ask my boss if we could arrange a 75% job for me, so that I could work three days of 10 hours each (longer, I'm not allowed to work around here), so I'd have a 3-day-week - which would then offer me more life in my given lifetime. As I don't havd kids, the day will come where I will at least try if this can be made possible.
And instead of a picture of her, we get a picture of Jack Black whose contributions are bupkiss.
No offence, Jack (I love your work), but I wouldn't expect you to come from the womb of such a genius.
For once, I wish her accomplishments were told without mentioning her (male) offspring. There is absolutely no reason for a picture of Jack Black, or even mentioning him, she is enough as she is
I think it's worth mentioning him, as it gives some context. But I agree 100% that HER photo should be here. Not his.

If we stopped listening to politicians or having them in the job, took a bunch of 6yr old kids and showed them each of the world's problems, they'd say simple things like "that lady shouldn't lose her home to pay bills because she's sick, hospital should be free for her" and every stupid fuc*ing problem we adults have caused would be solved in 5 goddamn minutes. From the mouth of babes, we're not the ones who should be leading.

I want someone who would do this with me. It would be horrible if they got divorced later on in life though.
Everyone loves to party with the Scots, and we don't care if you're famous, we just wanna have a drink and a laugh with you.
That’s weird to say though. Having $4200 in the US is nothing, while in a poor country it makes you rich.
Yes. I recently crunched some numbers and realised that money in different countries isn't as simple as converting currencies. In the US minimum wage is $7.25 p.h. and it's not enough to live on. If you convert it, that's ZAR111 p.h. which would be a pretty good salary in South Africa.
Load More Replies...The thing is, it depends upon the cost of living in the country where you live. For example, if you have $10 and your bread is $3 and your milk is $2 and your eggs are $4, then you are not well off. But if you have $10 and your food is 50c, 40c and 90c, then you are better off.

PSA blood test is crap but sadly, the best we have. My PSA level tests extremely high all the time and has prompted my doctor to perform 3 prostate biopsies over the last 15 years; all of which were negative (luckily). They need to devise a better test.

Load More Replies...Yep, listen with the sound muted and a horror film becomes less scary.
Provided your playback equipment is actually capable of reproducing those sounds. No LCD television, and nearly no consumer-grade stereo equipment can reproduce sounds below 20Hz.
Someone in my neighborhood has a car stereo that plays infrasound. I'm guessing it's off a shelf, so consumer-grade. Most TVs can produce infrasound, but a bass booster is needed to get the physical body response. It takes more amplification for the effect to be noticed, but a modern sound bar with base boost should do the trick. I'm sure stereo equipment also handles infrasound if you want it to.
Load More Replies...Yeah. For starters you have to buy the car. Literally the first part of the first sentence.
Load More Replies...You have to put a minimum number of miles on the car so it can be imported as "used" and the import duties are much less and the difference covers the cost of the free stuff you received.
That makes sense. I thought it was just a cool vacation package.

There's more to this. He didn't just randomly decide to disown his son, he did it after Jaycee was arrested for drug possession. Beyond that he's an actor and singer like his father, so he certainly can make his own money. It's worth noting too that Jackie has an estranged daughter too whom he has never met despite her being an adult by now and neither of the two want anything to do with each other.

The outer dwarf planets’ years boggle the mind. Eris was discovered in 2005, and will complete its first year since that discovery in 2564. The year it completed in 2005 was started in 1446. 😳
A dwarf planet is STILL a PLANET. You probably think Earth is flat and are anti-vax, maybe also anti-LGBT+ and a racist, too.

Especially if the person's life was lost in service of a higher cause eg the kids that donated their organs etc. It reduces the impact of that act.
