Curiosity is a fundamental human characteristic that drives us to explore and comprehend our surroundings. It is the spark that piques our interest in learning, discovering, and creating. That is how the book “Why: What Makes Us Curious” by Dr. Mario Livio was born.
Dr. Mario shared what inspired him to write and research curiosity. “I am a very curious person, and at some point, I became curious about curiosity itself. While doing the research for the book 'WHY?' I was surprised by the fact that not very many researchers are studying curiosity.” It seems that everyone was asking questions but not the core of where those questions come from.

Curiosity can manifest itself in a variety of ways. For some, it's a desire to understand how the world works that drives their interest in science and technology. Others are drawn to history, literature, or the arts because they are fascinated by the past and the stories that make up our collective human experience.
When learning about curiosity itself, it turns out there are more layers to it. Dr. Mario shared: “There are a few types of curiosity. 'Perceptual' curiosity is the curiosity we feel when things are surprising or ambiguous. 'Epistemic' curiosity is the one that drives scientific research. 'Diversive' curiosity is what we do to avoid boredom, and 'Specific' curiosity is about specific questions. There are more types (e.g. 'Morbid' curiosity, when people gather around accident sites).”

Each of these types of curiosity is responsible for different areas in that we, as humans, evolve and move forward. Dr. Livio shared that “perceptual curiosity is associated with an area in the brain that is related to conflict, or hunger, it represents an unpleasant state that we want to get out of. Epistemic curiosity is associated with an anticipation of reward (like when someone offers us a piece of chocolate.”
He added: “Epistemic curiosity has indeed led to progress in science. We are most curious when we already know something about a subject, but we know or feel that there is more to be known. Human curiosity has always surpassed the one needed for mere survival.”

Curiosity is a driving force behind innovation and progress. Many of the inventions and discoveries that have shaped our world today would not have been possible without curiosity. Therefore, we wanted to know some practical strategies that individuals and organizations can use to cultivate and leverage curiosity in their daily lives and work.
“Always start with something the person (or organization) is already curious about (and not with something you want them to be curious about) and then, find a way to connect what they are already curious about to what you think they should be curious about. Also, I coined the phrase, 'curiosity is the best remedy for fear.' If you are afraid of something, try to learn more about it,” shared Dr. Mario.

It depends on the breed, and what they are fed. Not necessarily an indicator of quality.
But what they are fed *does* affect the quality. Farmers market chickens generally get a much healthier diet, and pasture-raised chickens get to forage in the grass for bugs and worms, making their eggs much more nutritious and flavorful compared to the "all-vegetarian fed" chickens in feed lots. Chickens aren't vegetarian. Their feed shouldn't be!

Load More Replies... But which one tastes better? I bought watermelon once that the farmers allowed us to sample because it wasn't at ALL red, it was WHITE, but tasted PERFECTLY as watermelon should taste.
That might be a genetic variation though. Orange and yellow flesh watermelons taste amazing, but often don't ship well so you can often only find them at farmers markets. Egg yolks can change color based on a hen's diet.

Unless you consider 'taste' as quality. Commercial eggs are fed very little protein as cost savings. I'm a chicken farmer
Man I'm spoiled living with a ton of neighbours with chickens. So much better than gross supermarket eggs.
Serious Eats did a taste test and, when they dyed the eggs green to hide the color, nobody could tell the difference between the farm fresh eggs and the cheap factory eggs.
When I was a teenager and lived at home my dad raised chickens. The egg yolk were always more orange than store bought eggs. Don't recall if they taste better.
Fun fact if you feed chickens pepper flakes it makes the yolk oranger and it's ok to because chickens (and birds) can't taste spice

Chicken feed can have colouring in it so that the egg yolk is bright orange, my sister uses colour free feed and the eggs her free range happy hens produce have the pale yellow yolk similar to the first picture.
No, it's true. Grew up with Rhode Island Reds & Bantams-Free range chickens do produce richer eggs
Unfun fact: in the egg industry, male chicks are put into either gas chambers or industrial shredders that tear them up whilst alive. All this because they can't lay eggs and are therefore worthless.
Top one was fed only plants. Chickens are naturally omnivores, the below is naturally fed.

Actually, CV Vir's post is wrong. Organic, pasture raised almost always look like the egg on the bottom, while mass produced eggs like those sold in big chain grocery stores look invariably look like the one shown at the top. Check it out yourself
A store bought egg might be weeks old by the time it gets to market. The farmer's eggs may have been laid only a few days before. The yolk should orange like this, not yellow. Farm fresh tastes so much better too.
Hm, the bottom one was apparently larger and the yellow is a bit darker. What´s supposed so special about it?
When my grandparents first retired to the country, grandma got herself a few hens. I learned a lot about eggs that I otherwise would never have learned as a city kid, mainly that they come in different sizes.
The corporate ones are less happy and s**t, and less fresh while farm fresh (hence the name) are very fresh and the chickens are usually pretty happy. It's just a freshness thing I'm pretty sure

Home-grown is best but if you can't grow your own, it's nice to get it from a local farmer. Factory eggs are usually lesser quality.
