Who needs Alice In Wonderland when we have Mother Nature? As crazy as it sounds, there are too many mind-boggling things happening just outside the comfort of your home. Like, did you know that... goats have accents and owls don't have eyeballs? Nature has surely been generous with throwing its weird gifts at us to think about.

And often, you don’t need to go far to realize there’s a bunch of (mildly) interesting stuff happening right at your doorstep. From an odd tree that has a single branch of an apple tree to a frog so tiny, your fingernail looks like Everest in comparison, these are some of the most amusing examples spotted by people and shared in the Reddit community r/mildlyinteresting.

Whether it’s mildly or overwhelmingly interesting remains a subject of debate, but one cannot argue just how crazy nature can be.

Cecilia Aros

they can grow for a very short period after a particularly humid winter and is a very rare phenomenon, so when you get rain in that specific zone you can expect this to happen, so there are a lot of tourists and photographers also you can't damage the flowers since they are protected and most of them are rare species that only grow there, the zone is also secured to prevent people from disturbing the seeds after they bloom, I only saw it once and is a majestic view

Remember the days when you were a kid playing in the back yard, never ready to come home for dinner? It’s because spending time in nature was an adventure most of us were already ready to take on. From finding odd colorful bugs hiding in the greenery to catching your first fish in the neighbor’s pond, these were the moments full of excitement that you may still carry to this day.

But these days, Americans are spending less and less time outdoors. A 2019 Outdoor Foundation study showed that nearly half of the US population doesn’t participate in any outdoor recreation at all, and only 17.9 percent got out at least once a week in 2018. As a result, there have been one billion fewer hikes, climbs, rides, and outdoor excursions than a decade ago.

When this was posted on Reddit, they advised that this is actually not a shadow at all...it is an art piece painted to look like a shadow. If you look to the lower, far right of the building, you can see an ACTUAL shadow on the brick wall from a tree in the lot. Looks quite different than the green one....

A similar Yale study from 2017 suggested that the lure of technology and places people work, live, and go to school “do not encourage contact with the natural world," and "myriad competing priorities and activities push experiences in nature to the side.”

“In particular,” the report said, “older adults were concerned that younger generations are overly reliant on electronic media, unaware of how the natural world works, and unacquainted with the simple enjoyment of being outdoors.”

Here at Bored Panda, we hope that showing the little wonders nature can bring us will bring back everyone's interest in going outdoors and spending some time in the sunshine. Not only does it help to boost your immune system, lift your mood, and make you more active, it also gives you the sense of curiosity we all had in childhood and lost somewhere in our hectic schedules.

Maples are actually Acer trees. This leaf looks like it's from a dwarf Japanese maple, rather than the Canadian sugar maple, which you all seem to be comparing it to. Either way, both trees are gorgeous, particularly in Autumn/Fall.

When the sun is very low in the sky (e.g. at midnight in high-latitude summer), its light has to pass through a lot of atmosphere because it comes in at an angle. The shorter wavelength light such as blues and greens have had to pass through so much atmosphere that they get scattered. Longer wavelength light has the greatest chance of making it through the atmosphere without scattering. So here you see a rainbow that overwhelmingly red-light as its source. It's the same reason that the sun goes read at sunset.

It is a blue tailed lizard . It uses it's tail to attract the predator to that part of its body because when caught by the tail, the tail breaks off and he can run off. A new tails grows on.

So weird when things like this happen. We live in the countryside in Wiltshire, UK. If I am out driving early on a winter's morning there will be cool, clear air, and then one specific field will be covered in mist, then clear air for a while, then another single field covered in mist. I have no idea why. It isn't about height.

Working with conservation felling teams you move a little more slowly and alertly than someone just getting in, getting it done and getting out. Because we were always watching out for anything alive or interesting we came across, some of the fungal rot patterns I found inside trees - wow, amazing! Dancers, trees, animals, faces, flowers... Joyous to work in such an environment, alongside others who will also stop and marvel, knowing that no human was ever 'intended' to see this, we were just the fortunate ones who did. If we found something like this one, we'd beg the Boss for a slice each .... and he'd tut, roll his eyes and do them, including one for himself lol. There is so much unexpected beauty in nature, if you take the time to look.

They are common in deserts. So like Texas and Utah in the US. Two types of deserts but both have a ton of tumble weeds.

Where in Virginia is that? Virginia is an incredible state. Outside of the islands / Florida, Virginia is probably the best state in the union, easily. Beautiful mountains and valleys, hundreds of miles of warm coast / beach, four seasons, and economic stability that withstood the housing crisis, recession, and now covid. And it’s a solid blue state now, with expanded Medicaid and police reform, decriminalization and lots of tax money to spend. They have more diversity than most places, lots of American history, and a shrinking redneck / rural population. Go VA!

Surely the flow of the river comes from the top of the photo and the left side is where all the factories are.

Not quite. That's a Brazilian avocado, used more for sweets, like desserts and smoothies, or just plainly put some sugar on it and eat with a spoon.

I bought one of these plants and they aren't easy to take care of. You're really not supposed to feed it flies all the time like everyone thinks. But of course I did.

That will kil l your plant, they don't have enough digestive juices to fully swallow it, and both subjects will end up killed. This isn't actually rare at all.

Weird effect. It looks a bit as if the bark was slightly transparent at the edges (as if the sign shows through)

Clearly fake, "Supply" can be read in the top right corner, like tree bark would be transparent

Ehhhhh, the tyres probably just removed the dead grass from wherever they touched. The grass is growing fine everywhere but you can just see it there.

I don't think so. I think rain water collected in the wheel ruts. Giving the grass in the tracks just enough water to stay green while the rest of the lawn dried out and died.
