There are a lot of discussions going around today about gender norms and roles. People are beginning to defy them more and more, stepping out of their 'traditional roles' and being who they want to be, instead of what society expects them to be. Photographer Nir Arieli from Israel is helping defy these norms by capturing the feminine and gentle side of men.
The photographer started a project where male models pose, look, and present themselves in a gentle, serene, and beautiful way, instead of the usual way men are represented in media. Nir wants to show the vulnerability and emotions in men with his photos.

It isn't. That is the point. It is vulnerable. The fact that these shots are "traditionally" done by females in no way says that they are feminine poses. Just vulnerable ones.

I would have said most of these photos show vulnerability or intimacy, rather than necessarially feminity. Male vulnerability doesn't equate to being feminine - thinking vulnerability or intimacy is 'effeminate' is a trait of toxic masculinity. Unless these models are non-binary, and expressing their feminity, then saying that they're showing 'femininity' isn't helpful - they're showing vulnerability, grace, emotion, beauty, intimacy, gentleness, introspection, spirituality. The lighting and props are more typical of photography using feminine models, but the traits and emotions shown aren't feminine, they're human.

Well the point of the pictures is to show things that society deems as feminine. There is nothing intrinsically feminine or masculine since gender is cultural.

I think that's part of it; we don't usually have the idea that men can be beautiful. You get the occasional beautiful man like Jason Momoa or Idris Elba (ymmv), but as a general rule the best we can be is handsome, and handsome is not beautiful. I wonder sometimes how it affects the average guy having the idea that they will never be attractive the way that women are. Guys with differing experiences, please weigh in

I find it sad that, in this current time, men are still made to feel that showing emotions like sadness and showing grace etc is feminine (not that there is anything wrong at all with being male and "feminine"). It's human, end of. I thought the photographs were all beautiful personally.

Exactly, there is nothing wrong with being feminine and masculine. Those are all human traits. But it sadly shows how incredibly misogynist society is. Feminine is coded as "woman" and apparently for a man to be like a woman is the "worst" thing. We're still seen as less than for being women.

Are the only men able to "embrace their femininity" have zero body fat and have a waist size about 28". This is terrible. It shows one type of man ... thin and young. I'm not a "big" man ... quite the contrary ... I'm disappointed.

I would not call these photos feminine. Artistic, graceful, contemplative, beautiful, all of that--but not feminine. One of the biggest errors is showing two men in a "gay" pose and calling it feminine. No, it is not. Homosexuality does not define a a man as feminine, no more than it defines women as masculine. As a dear friend put it, "Who I love does not define all of me." So true!

The title is borderline offensive. Men posing with tears, with affection, with freckles, with long hair is feminine? Reverse the post, is it women posing with hammers and beer are deemed masculine? Do better BP.

Except a few like the one with tears, I don't find think of those as vulnerable. Is it become they look effeminate, or more accurately far from the standard of what mens are supposed to look like? They're not vulnerable.

Are the only men able to "embrace their femininity" have zero body fat and have a waist size about 28". This is terrible. It shows one type of man ... thin and young. I'm not a "big" man ... quite the contrary ... I'm disappointed.

I would not call these photos feminine. Artistic, graceful, contemplative, beautiful, all of that--but not feminine. One of the biggest errors is showing two men in a "gay" pose and calling it feminine. No, it is not. Homosexuality does not define a a man as feminine, no more than it defines women as masculine. As a dear friend put it, "Who I love does not define all of me." So true!

I agree, but those traits are always coded as feminine. The world is still very misogynist and still separates feminine and masculine traits.

Article framing sucks. "Man does something traditionally attributed to women! Everyone applaud!" This framing makes it seem transgressive to BE a man and have what are traditionally framed as feminine, vulnerability and an appreciation for beauty.

So the point I'm getting from this is that being gay, colors, flowers, light, and long hair is feminine. The only ones that actually looked feminine and I understood were the drag queen and makeup ones.
