Here Are The 50 Worst Legal Things That Should Be Illegal, As Shared In This Online Thread
Just because something is technically legal doesn’t automatically make it good, moral, or fair for consumers and regular folks alike. It might mean that the law simply hasn’t caught up to reality, that there are glaring flaws and oversights in the legal system, (or that sneaky lobbyists conduct clandestine operations to sway the system in the favor of their multi-billion dollar clients).
There are tons of small things that annoy us in our day-to-day lives. Like receiving unsolicited email subscriptions. Being unable to unsubscribe from spam without jumping through more hoops than a show dog. Being forced to pay a ‘convenience’ fee for, well, pretty much anything. As well as realizing that the person you helped vote into political office isn't fulfilling the promises they made. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of some truly unpleasant practices that are still prevalent in 2022.
User u/cucutz fired up a very interesting discussion on r/AskReddit after they asked the digital crowd to share their thoughts about completely legal things that should become illegal. We’ve collected the most interesting insights to share with you Pandas. Scroll down to read them all, and don’t forget to upvote the posts you agree with. Forcing women to give birth.
A lot of religions and tribes treat women as breeding stocks and some even disguise it as honorable. Its not honorable or desired if it is forced. Bodily autonomy should be respected.
Many state legislatures in the US treat women the same way.
Load More Replies...It’s truly sad when some people in the United States value their constitutional right to bare arms over a woman’s right to her own bodily autonomy. Truly disturbing.
My choice was either get a termination (my iud failed) or end my own life because I will NOT be pregnant. It’s one of my worst phobias. So a place that makes the first option illegal is basically telling me to go jump off a cliff. (And if anyone wants to try the ‘why don’t you get sterilised?’ thing? I’ve been told for decades that I’m just ‘too immature’ to make the decision to never have kids. I’m in my late 40s)
Yeah the anti-choice crowd never factors the fact that women are living, breathing, established human beings worthy of making our own decisions. They tend to take the whole woman out of the equation, essentially telling us we’re chattel and the life of a fetus is more important and worthy than our own.
Load More Replies...Forced birthers like to tout the use of family planning for contraception, but they ignore the fact that men often force themselves onto women and girls, and the only way to "plan" for that is to be on birth control, and if that fails, to have access to safe and legal abortion. Forced birthers should be legislating harder against violent men who assault us, not locking us and our doctors up.
Or to nearly die before giving them life-saving abortion care. And sometimes they do die.
It would be awesome if the GOP actually cared about kids *after* they're born. You know, by making sure those unwanted kids are actually fed, and not abused, and receive a decent education even if their parents don't have 2 sticks to rub together. What we see instead are kids whose Only hot meals come from the free lunch programs the alt-right seeks to Erase. We see a nation of yahoos who won't give up their "right" to the war toys that are killing thousands of kids each & every year. It's no coincidence that these same people gleefully support an unrepentent rapist. Yeah, I said it. If he were innocent of raping & battering a 13 yr old child, he'd Not be hiding the DNA that would prove his innocence. Logic tells me that, not TV brainwashing. The GOP's main motivations are nothing more than Power, Control & Greed. Trump's stooges are merely cowards supporting a bully in the hope that they'll benefit, too, from the misery of others. Hard to think of a less "Christian" mindset!
Clipping puppy tails and ears.
In Czechia, ears are illegal, tails are not. Don't really know why not both :(
Load More Replies...Declawing cats is another truly wicked thing to do. Banned in Europe - not sure about the US?
No, unfortunately it's not banned in the US. It absolutely should be. And let's call it what it really is: amputations.
Load More Replies...Some dogs need their tails clipped because they have huge powerful tails. Wagging their tails results in hitting things HARD; hard enough it breaks skin and they run around slapping blood all over the place. The wounds never heal and get infected.
We call it happy tail here, it's really hard to watch, they can end up breaking their tail too I'm pretty sure, I've never actually had a dog with it

One of the things mentioned in the r/AskReddit thread concerns receiving unsolicited emails. And it's a great example showing us how the lines between privacy and vulnerability to marketing have become blurred in recent years.
Look, we’ve probably all been there: you start getting emails from random people, clogging up your inbox with paragraphs about weird products, news that you never wanted to get, and offers that simply don’t interest you. The fact of the matter is that your email can end up on some ad or PR agency’s list without you having come into contact with them at all in the past. It happens far more often if you’re even a semi-public person and your contact info is visible somewhere on a company website or on social media.

Politicians making medical decisions. They really do make cr*ppy doctors.
Remember when it was first suggested (by a politician ofc) that instead of terminating, an ectopic pregnancy should be re-implanted into the womb? Which is medically 100% impossible, but they insisted that it's possible, and this is still an existing myth in some circles? Yeah.
Still grateful that when I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years back that there was no discussion. It was a given that my life was more valuable than that of some cells stuck in my fallopian tube. Australia isn't perfect but at least we're a few steps ahead on some things.
Load More Replies...This makes no sense and should 100% illegal, same as insurance companies making medical decisions in America.
They don't, they make cost decisions which just so happen to stop people getting much needed medical treatment. Can't eat into those millions of dollars of profit.
Load More Replies...Politicians make crappy politicians, too. The irony is that anyone who wants to hold political office is precisely the type that shouldn't.
I’m not sure politicians should be allowed to make any decisions. Here in the states it seems like almost every time many of them choose to remind the rest of us to their existence the only result is that one can scratch off another subject that said politician knows less than nothing about.
Even the ones who actually ARE MDs seem to lose all their medical knowledge once they start dabbling in politics, and start babbling the same b******t as their uneducated cohorts.
They vote for what they're paid to vote for by lobbying groups.

Declawing cats. I’d rather have my cats scratch my face off then ever putting them through that much pain.
It's not just their nails. It's similar to removing the whole distal bone of fingers and toes
Load More Replies...Don't adopt a cat if you can't train/handle their scratches on furniture n' stuff.
Cats won't scratch your furniture if you have scratching posts for them! I have 4 cats and all of my furniture is in perfect condition! (Well mostly, except for that slight sag in the sofa where my husband sits. LOL)
Load More Replies...Here is the US, it's (unfortunately) legal, but there are a lot of veterinarians that won't do it because they see the practice as cruel. They're right.
I declawed my first kitten 15 years ago because I didn't know how painful it was for them,& the vet never said anything to me about it beforehand! I still have her,& I feel SO horrible about it!I was SO stupid!I didn't get a second cat until 2019. That cat I adopted from a rescue,& he was they *think* about 8 years old, and I knew he wasn't all that well, but I wanted him to have a good life. After I got him I found out he had bad eye infection, so he had to have this $2000 eye surgery. But I got it done for him. A few months later I found out that he had Cancer. The vet oncologist thought that giving him radiation would save him. It was $5000. We did the radiation, but 3 months later the Cancer was growing rapidly and I had to put him down. I only had him a year, but he was the most special pet I ever had. All the nights curled up next to him in his favorite bed, and all the syringe feedings & meds were worth every moment with him. Now I have such a soft spot for special needs cats.
aw that's so sweet of you to adopt older cats. It's what I want to do, it might cause a lot of pain for me but the cats will be so much happier I believe it's worth it
Load More Replies...The ONLY reason I could ever conceive of that'd make it okay by ANY stretch of the word is if the cat scratches itself bloody because of some incurable condition the symptoms of which can't be regulated effectively. We only realized recently that one of our cats is allergic to some uncommon additive in certain brands of cat food, but before we figured out what was (likely) causing it, he was scratching his ear bloody all the time. Despite the best possible care we could give him (and consistent vet visits), by the end the entire side of his little head was bald and full of wounds he made himself. Thankfully we and our vet have found a way to manage it and he healed very nicely, fur is growing back too, but when it was at its worst.... as much as I abhor the practice, it did flash through my mind that maybe it'd be kinder to declaw that one foot, because there was a very real danger that he'd damage his eye, get a piece of litter or some bacteria in the wound, and lose an eye, or worse.
There are little coverings that fit over their nails to stop them from scratching. I'd do that before ever putting a cat through a declawing. My first rescue cat was one that someone did this to. His personality changed so much after the fact that they didn't want him anymore and put him up for adoption. They told me he was so depressed that he wasn't eating anymore. Saddest thing I ever saw and I knew I just had to make it better for him...well as best as I could without being able to give him his toes back. :(
Load More Replies...It's starting to not be super popular in the US anymore either. A lot of vets will not do it. Both of my cats are not declawed and they have been fine for the most part.
It's not fully legal in the USA. Maryland and New York it is illegal.
Load More Replies...It's not so much the pain because they knock the cat out when they do it. It's the fact that, when cats use a scratching post, it's not only to sharpen their claws, it's to stretch their backs and muscles so they stay flexible. And for all of those saying "My cat is an indoor cat only." If the cat should escape out of the home, it needs a way to defend itself until it can be found and brought back.
It can leave cats with chronic pain for the rest of their lives, it's not just the pain from the surgery.
Load More Replies...Since when? Not that think it shouldn't be, but my understanding is that its only NY and MD.
Load More Replies...We’d all probably love it if we were expressly asked if we’d like to subscribe to email lists from a company before they start sending us their newsletters like a bolt from the blue. And sometimes, the ‘unsubscribe’ function (which might take up to several steps) isn’t enough to get them off your back. They keep contacting you. Over. And over. And over again. In short, unsolicited mass marketing is annoying, and unsolicited bulk emails are the devil.
In the United States, for example, it’s perfectly legal to send out unsolicited commercial emails. There are some restrictions, however. Meanwhile, anti-spam laws appear to be stricter in the United Kingdom, and breaches of regulations can lead to fines of up to 500k pounds (around 568k dollars).
Breeding dogs that are no longer healthy.
This is also getting gradually restricted in the EU. Some of those breeds are even banned from participating in competitions now.
Thank God cause when you have a dog who’s brain is the size of a tennis ball when you know you’ve done something wrong
Load More Replies...And cats!! YouTube and Facebook are filled with videos of flat-faced cats (such as Persians) that are meant to be cute. The cats themselves suffer from serious breathing problems, just like overbred pugs. In addition, "Munchkin" cats, who have been bred to have extremely short stumpy legs, suffer from lordosis (excessive curvature of the spine) and pectus excavatum (hollowed chest).
There is an international effort that I think started in Germany to retro-breed pugs and bulldogs back to what to what they originally were.
You wanna see something terrible you look up those toadline bulldogs. Man running that place needs to be transformed into a frog-shaped human himself. Let him suffer.
oh my god those poor dogs! I couldn't imagine who would do that to something 😭
Load More Replies...I'm guilty when it comes to this one. I LOVE bulldogs. However I got mine from a rescue so i hope that means I'm not too terrible
I think this is ok. As long as one does not breed them themself and/ or buy them directly from the breeder or a middleman, it‘s ok. Especially if you get it from a shelter or rescue.
Load More Replies...Just breeding dogs at all, there are enough in the pounds and rescue centers without homes already...
What you're suggesting would wipe out many species of dogs. Purebred dogs have a place in this world, the problem is lax laws and greedy breeders.
Load More Replies...Not sure what you mean by that but I agree in that I am against breeding dogs and cats qith pushed in faces, like pugs or Persians. I love a dog with Snout!
Bribery. Sorry, I mean lobbying.
This ties into the predatory healthcare system above, Health insurance companies are why the US will never have universal healthcare.
The biggest problem in the US is they've allowed corporations to buy up all the hospitals and most doctors. They care noting about the patient, only about how much they can squeeze out of them and their insurance if they're lucky enough to have it.
Load More Replies...I cried when I heard the "Citizens United" decision from the Supreme Court. And what everyone feared would happen HAS happened, with horrifying results. The very idea that corporate contributions to politicians are protected by the 1st amendment as free speech is sheer lunacy.
If they could revisit Roe vs. Wade and overturn it, they could do the same to this. If they were persuaded to...
Load More Replies...I have been calling out lobbying as nothing more than legalized bribery for decades now.
Wait... This could work? You can't tell someone they can't spend money telling other people why they should vote for you. (And given that fact, it's probably better to allow direct campaign contributions, rather than forcing reliance on "independent expenditures.") You also can't tell Congress they can't learn how to regulate industry from the industries they seek to regulate. But maybe you can prevent the same people from doing both? If you advise Congress (""lobby"), you can't ALSO contribute to campaigns or independent expenditures?

I do not have or want kids and they seem to think I do and that I live in the US when I live in Canada. I did not sign up for any emails from them and don't know how they got my email address. It all comes down to the need for stricter privacy and information-sharing laws. It feels like a huge invasion of privacy when someone you don’t know starts offering services you don’t need. We see enough ads on billboards and on the TV, thank you very much.
Don’t get us wrong, the people sending those marketing emails are just doing their jobs and we’re sure most of them are perfectly decent folks. But boundaries have to be drawn. When you get an email, you expect it to be important, informative, or entertaining. What you don’t want is to have your time and energy wasted by a poorly-disguised ad.
I think paparazzi should be illegal to be honest.
Stop liking their pictures and they go away… but people want these pictures. Bit like factory farming and cheap clothes… if there wasn’t a demand then it would go away.
Unfortunately so. There's demand, so is supply
Load More Replies...For that matter, tabloid magazines. If it's been proven that the articles printed by these magazines are false and they have been successfully sued for defamation, they should be required to shut down for a year. That number goes up exponentially with each following violation.

The predatory practices of the U.S. Healthcare system.
They are literally holding people's lives to ransom. It is so disgusting and abhorrent from the outside looking in at what is happening to sick Americans.
And a lot of times, we can't get the diagnoses we need b/c we have to rely on the insurance companies to "approve" those tests and/or treatments.
Load More Replies...It is heartbreak and flat-out terrifying when families have to create a "Go Fund Me" to help offset the astronomical costs for caring for a sick family member or when a child has to start a lemonade stand to help with medical costs. The more I live in the United States as an expat the more I notice really sad practices like this.
IMHO the doctors in hospitals are doing everything what they can for patients, it's the hospital management and insurance that screws them over.
Yes, and even when you pay a crazy amount for healthcare every month ($1800 w/$5000 deductible and 20% co-pay, and are limited to having services done at one hospital over an hour away) they STILL won't approve most stuff! I had to get an x-ray of my knee and I went to my regular doctor (listed with my insurance), and she sent me to get an X-ray of my knee because I had a HUGE bump on it that appeared for no reason. They still turned it down. $450 for the X-ray. My husband has Cancer. They paid 4 chemo, but it didn't completely work. Next option is a newly approved treatment. Insurance won't cover it. $425,000.
I'm so sorry that chemo didn't work for him, and I hope the bump on your knee is harmless ❤️
Load More Replies...The U.S. does not really have a Healthcare system, it has a Healthprofit system. Any care you actually get is strictly coincidental
And whenever you talk about setting up an affordable and/or one-payer system, some brainless nincompoop squawks B.S. about every wino getting a free liver transplant. That's not how it works. Socialized medicine means making sure people can AFFORD health care, and don't have to worry about going bankrupt.

These people that push insurance and push this "medication" are absolutely evil. This country needs to desperately reform healthcare.
We don't actually have a healthcare system in the (former?) U.S., b/c there's more profit to be made by keeping people sick than by healing them. Today's fake "Christians" care about $$$ Far More than they are concerned w/ anyone's wellbeing. Cash is their King now, replacing the God that told them to care for those less fortunate. Seeing as they can't carry their riches w/ them when they go, one wonders how it all plays out for them. Guess it depends on one's belief in the existence of the soul. If we all have one of those, my guess is that those folks are likely Screwed. And if we don't have souls? Then I guess the majority of humanity is only screwed as long as we're still breathing. I've got my fingers crossed for good luck, though. Good luck that there IS some sort of cosmic justice for awful people who abuse others &/or happily profit from preventable misery.
America actually sucks, you have to pay for healthcare and going to college. I've researched colleges in Europe, and they have no tuition fees(from the ones I've seen) and some go for out of state students as well.
Catching wild animals and selling them as pets. Hermit crabs, parrots, and many fish still fall in this category and are going extinct because of it.
And releasing them to foreign ecosystem once they are out of control/too tedious/expensive to care.
I've seen lots of people showing off sugar glider pets. The sugar glider is a native Australian animal, meaning that Australians cannot make pets of them. Meaning someone from the US snuck into Australia, stole many of them and smuggled them back to the States to breed pets. This makes me angry, especially when vets help treat them, rather than reporting the owner to border authorities. Besides - who wants a pet that pisses everywhere, no matter how cute it looks? Also: exotic animals bought as pets and made to wear nappies. Humiliating and disgusting.
As an Australian it's infuriating. Lots of ignorant people see something cute and go "I want one!" without having any real interest in the species or its behaviour and environment. We aren't allowed to keep native species as pets here because it's really bad for the species as a whole, but shitty foreigners can smuggle our animals out to make gross tiktok videos about.
Load More Replies...Otters sold as pets are often wild-caught pups. the parents are killed and the pups sold off to people who see cute otters playing in bathtubs in videos. Other pet otters are bred from animals kept in tiny cages. Otters are cute. They should not be pets.
I completely agree with this. I have a love/hate feeling about zoo's. On one hand it gives people an opportunity to see animals in real life that they wouldn't normally see, and that can spark curiosity and understanding of wild animals. Zoos can also help protect animals of going extinct. But wild animals aren't meant to be in cages or be contained. There are lots of amazing zoos that do great work, but we have all heard horror stories of other zoos.
We have wild green parrots all over Los Angeles, hundreds of them, if not thousands. They're beautiful, but they are loud AF!
I'm okay with small degrees of this: the original crested gecko population was wild caught, and grabbing a *very small* number of them from the wild to reintroduce into the existing lines for greater diversity would not be a bad thing. But when it is possible to breed captively, there's no excuse for still getting wild animals, save for the scenario where adding a couple wild back into the lines would be beneficial.
Some degree of preservation can be made this way, see: axolotls. That's a mess of genes right now too, and you can't really re-release the ones we have into the wild, but the animal hasn't gone extinct due to our efforts. Granted, our efforts should be different... like not destroying their mud-happy habitat entirely in the first place.

It should be illegal to blatantly lie to voters while running for political office. We call it fraud and jail people for lying in order to gain financially. Yet we call it normal and allow politicians to lie in order to gain votes for political offices, offices which not only benefit them financially but also give them enormous amounts of power to benefit and detriment others.
Then we wonder why political office seems so often to attract the most fraudulent, sociopathic, and dishonest among us. We basically have a neon sign over our political system saying, “If you enjoy committing fraud and are a pathological liar, please apply here… we will let you deceive as many of us as you possibly can for more money and power than you can dream of.”
If I lie in a job interview and get caught out, the company has the right to fire me… should be the same in politics. Don’t do it!
i completely agree perfect example is brexit in the UK nobody was honest about how it would be once we left the EU just scaremongering and lies

I am so sick of people going around complaining and "oh I did not vote, one vote does not count" bs. We're all in this together, either we choose those who govern the country in a responsible and democratic way or let's just turn totalitarian and stop pretending.
Australia does this. But surely there is dubious value in forcing people who take no interest in, and know nothing about, politics to vote?
Load More Replies...I think every person running for office from Governor and up should have to have a complete background check of EVERYTHING. From their education, their investments, businesses that they own, their taxes, other political people they have been linked to, and all their financial information. This would also include anyone who has donated money to them.It should all be made public so everyone has a clear cut in black & white statement of the person. If they don't submit it and have it publicly listed, then they can't even begin their campaign. It would just be facts. No opinions. They need to be required to have completed and understood a history of world history and politics. The other thing I would LOVE to see is that no politician can bash another. Stick to telling me what u can do. And the biggest thing we need is a clear cut ethical standard they HAVE to abide by! If u cross it, you are instantly out.
Absolutely love what you wrote. All of it. The bright, sterilizing light of Truth is the best (maybe only) way out of this mess. Sadly, too few people are equipped to grasp it, after decades of the govt. defunding Public Ed to pay for wars. t's no surprise that well-paid idiots on Faux now tell their minions that "a college education isn't worth the cost". (Tip: it IS). As it turns out, rich people don't want poor kids to get a leg up, b/c then their own spoiled scions (like DT's wretched offspring) would face more competition & may actually have to work to gain/keep the things they see as their entitled "birthright". They'd much rather dumb us all down, making it easier to retain Control & Power for Only themselves. Unfortunately, the lazy folks who don't like to feed their brains healthy info fully support that plan. Better to endure life as a slave than to have to work to achieve things, I guess. Esp when their overseers are giving them subtle permission to attack their "enemies".

Maybe it can be the citizens through a ballot initiative.

Overselling a plane and putting people who BOUGHT tickets on stand by.
At least with hotels their are 50 others in the area, airports are expensive, and you might have to go to one if you want to leave in time
Load More Replies...On the couple of occasions that I have seen this happen, they actually called for people to volunteer to fly the next day, and were giving a free nights hotel stay and a cash incentive. If I hadn't needed to get back home on that particular flight, I might have been tempted to have a night out on the town at their expense. I understand why they do it - as there are always some last minute no shows - and they want to fly with the plane full.
I typically fly two times per week. I’m typing this on a plane right now. In the many years I’ve been doing this, I’ve only seen a handful of it being forced. Typically an airline closes check in a half hour or so before departure. If they’re not oversold, they rush those late travellers through to the gate. If they are oversold, they lock them out from checking in or boarding and bump them to the next flight out. Most of my monthly flights are high-volume inter-island and a few are trans-pacific. The longer flight never has to bump people as they don’t oversell. The shorter inter-island flights are always oversold and there’s always cancellations. The airline I fly can offer 14 daily departures from my location to their hub because they fly these smaller planes full. Thanks to overselling. Without it they’d have to have a no cancellation policy. The smaller airlines that fly this route are always adding and removing flights because lost revenue by flying with open seats.
Nice presentation from a real-world perspective - thanks!
Load More Replies...someone explain this, I dont get it. (never been on a plane before, so idk much abt air travel)
If there's 100 seats on a plane, the airline will sell 105 tickets for it. They assume there will be last minute cancelations and no shows, and they are usually right. But sometimes everyone shows up and there is not enough seats for everyone, so they need to kick some people off the flight.
Load More Replies...This is a practice that should be outlawed. It's called THEFT OF SERVICE !!!
This happens because people (usually those who are traveling for business) will book and buy tickets on multiple flights, because they don't know what time their business will conclude. They don't bother to cancel the reservations they aren't going to use. Airlines use very complicated calculations to determine historically the average number of "no shows" on every flight. They're amazingly accurate in most cases. When they do get it wrong, passengers are compensated very well (at least on the major airlines. Maybe not so well on the budget carriers). When they can't get enough volunteers, passengers are involuntarily bumped - but that's rare - and who gets bumped goes by when they checked in for the flight. Check in at the last minute and you're likely to get bumped off an overbooked flight if no one volunteers.
Who will pay for those people who don't show up for their flight, because those folks will want their money back?
Tax avoidance by the rich and by corporations.
Amazon avoided £150m in corporation tax in the UK one year simply because their sales are booked in Luxembourg.
Th rich live on cash flow that does not get taxed and corporations just add the new tax to their product and pass that tax on to the consumer. When you demand that corporations pay a minimum tax, you are demanding to have your taxes raised.
Tax avoidance by the churches, who claim to want to help everybody. You wanna help? You pay then.
And the rich get richer. I bought a used car in another county with lower sales tax. Found out, in our state, you pay the taxes based on the county you live in not the county you purchase in when it comes to cars. However, if I would have gone to a store there and bought a blouse I would've been charged the lower sales tax. Guess they can't ask you for proof of where you live when you buy clothes or groceries or something.
I saw on another thread that if you paid $1 in taxes you spent more than multimillion dollar companies in different years
What's needed to stop this practice is to have global tax law, agreed by and applicable in all countries. Easier said than done for sure: countries need closer co-operation (so what has the UK done? ceased alignment with the EU!).

People marrying minors.
If children under 18 are too young to venture into contracts, too young to smoke, too young to drink and too young to vote, then they are too young to marry.
In many US states, children are allowed to married with their parents' consent when they're below the age of consent for sex. It just boggles my mind.
Load More Replies...People don't realize this absolutely happens in Western Countries, legally. The parents just have to agree in some US states. Other states they can be 14 with parents agreeing. I saw a clip from this sick f**k pushing 30 & has been with his "fiancé for 3 years." He was going to wait until she was a little bit older and "mature." Maybe they'll marry next year. Makes me sick.
Mom comes from backwoods GA, a town w/ something like 4 last names in its entire (very small, farming community) population. Went to a family reunion when I was 22. Everyone felt so sorry for my poor mother, having a "spinster" for a daughter. It was hilarious to me then, but saddens me now. To think all those folks were denied any real education (other than about farming implements & crop yields), trapped in poverty, married off by 15, having more babies than they could care for, and they want the SAME for their own kids & grandkids? That's terrible.

Free trials that auto charge when they run out.
This is annoying, but I feel like it is our responsibility. If we take something for free, we can't complain.
A free trial should just stop. No-one should have to hand over their payment details for a trial. Sign up if you want to continue
Load More Replies...Yep. I just straight-up refuse to sign up for any trial that asks for banking information because of this.
Nah. I want my free week of whatever before I decide to commit. I also take the responsibility of setting a calendar alert reminding me to cancel if I don’t like it. I’d rather take charge of making sure I cancel than having the service stop mid-use. A free trial of a new steaming service is better than paying a month and not wanting it. The personal responsibility method saves one money if they cancel in time. Without the trial, one is just paying period.
if you have to enter payment information when you sign up, it ain't free!
It's a trial right? We should have the option to say yes I want it.. or no I don't. It's not like u can do multiple trials.
There's a simple fix to this - DON'T SIGN UP IF IT ASKS FOR A CREDIT CARD.
Fireworks, so many injuries every year and basically selling explosives to morons.
I like watching fireworks but is it really necessary for them to sound like a nuclear warhead has detonated inside my ear? I think they should ban the bangers altogether. Think of all the poor terrified animals that don't understand that it's just for fun.
Veterans with PTSD DO NOT need us celebrating with imitation gunshots
Load More Replies...I'd also like to add that our armed force veterans who have experienced unimaginable traumas and are suffering from PTSD find unexpected, unregulated firework displays terrifying. If it was bonfire night and New Years Eve only, that would be manageable but in the UK it seems that every night from Oct - Jan some idiot nearby is setting off fireworks from 4pm - 2am. I don't believe in an all out ban (although secretly I'd be thrilled if that went ahead!) but I feel only professional displays should be allowed. If fireworks are to be sold to the public then they should be soundless.
Aye, last bonfire night, my PO at Cadets who almost certainly has PTSD was shaky as f**k

In my city the damn banging goes on for weeks!! At New Year many young men go totallyy crazy, battle firemen, burn cars. It's nuts. Yes, sure, illegal, but who is going to stop them? I want the whole stuff gone, at least in cities! A few public fireworks that people can go look at and that's it.

Tipping! Restaurants and other businesses shouldn’t be able to get away with holding their customers “socially hostage”. People shouldn’t be forced to provide the salaries of employees they did not hire, simply to avoid looking like an a-hole. The practice is criminal.
Some American corporations - and it’s ALWAYS the greediest ones - are trying to import it into New Zealand. Luckily everyone hates it so it hasn’t taken hold.
Dude remember when oil companies pass the blame of ecological damage onto its consumers or when sugar companies stabbed fat (oils and butters )companies in the back and blamed them for the root of all obesity when in fact sugar was. mega corporations do not give a s**t about us they only see us as cows to be miked

Like you, all for tipping but the fact it’s required bothers me. I always tip (if I have the money) but others shouldn’t be forced to
Load More Replies...Yeah and I'm pretty sure this is just an American thing since servers aren't paid a living wage
It’s annoying cause you know they aren’t paying servers a penny, and it isn’t coming out of their profits. Therefore, tipping should be included in the price, or waiters should be paid by restaurant owners.
No one seems to realise tipping is a hangover from the days of slavery and has deeply racist roots. Nowadays it’s a way for employers to profit from not paying their employees a living wage. It’s a catch 22 as well, because I know if I don’t tip, the service worker loses out and the employer profits, if I do tip, the service worker is a little better off and the employer still profits.
I'm not from a tipping culture so I only tip if there has been excellent service or if they have had to go above usual service (Eg if there was a large group, an "off menu" item or special request). When I was in the states and first saw a "service charge" AND "Tip".........
I used to feel embarrassed about not tipping. Until one day. I went bought a few cigars, they wanted me to add a tip. I asked for what? You didn't help me with a purchase or try to offer any sales or specials. The only thing you did was ring up the product and charged me. While YOU smoked a cigar. What, you want me to help pay for YOUR cigar?!
I don't mind tipping because I have worked as a hairdresser and those tips mean EVERYTHING, but tips are supposed to be based on the service you get. But for things like DoorDash and other food delivery, you have put your tip in BEFORE the service! That doesn't make any sense!
In Canada they went from 9-10 an hour and big tips, to 15 an hour and big tips. My fiance makes more than her co workers just in tips and they all will try and go home early if they have a slow day. Even pay each other to take a shift. So they would have to really pay them a lot to make up for the 200-300 a shift shes able to bring in
Don't you mean they should be held accountable to paying their employees properly like everyone else? It is gross vanity to reframe that as holding their customers, the very ones with the power to fix the situation, "socially hostage". Don't like that? Don't eat there. Ta da. I fixed it for you. You are free. You are no longer a hostage to being served and pampered like royalty or divinity. May you find peace for the rest of your days.

F**k no that violates the first ammendment if you find them

Our churches didn't have money for the abuse cases, we had money for infrastructure, programs, education, and financial aid. "Convenience fees" for paying taxes and bills online.
Or making everything online/apps base. There should always be other options, it is crippling older generations and make it difficult for them to be independent.
Happened to my in-laws. They used to could pay their electric bill at Walmart but the Walmart they go to said they couldn't do it anymore. So I had to download the app for their electric utility and create an account. Now, at the beginning of every month, they have to give me the money to put in my bank so I can pay their bill. Tedious and their bill gets paid, but they really should have a location for people to go who don't have smartphones and don't use checks or debit cards.
Load More Replies...The same should apply for "Inconvenience fees" for paying offline. In the UK we tend to have the opposite problem, where people are encourage to pay online or by direct payment from a bank account and are charged extra if they pay by other means. Sometimes this is seen as a discount for paying the way they want you to, but it still amounts to those who don't having to pay extra. There are still plenty of people who are not online (my parents included) and quite a few who do not have bank accounts.
this should be higher. every 6 mo, my aunt has to goto the gov building a 30 min drive each way, just so she doesn't have to pay the 10% fee on her popery taxes. like wtf? u greedy pos are all ready stealing 2k$ a yr from us, and u want more just because u only take cards online? get bent us gov.
This also needs to apply for when you pay with a credit or debit card. In my state, it’s legal for businesses and restaurants to add a percentage to your bill if you pay with a card. And when getting gas, if you pay with a card, you may be charged an extra 3 to 10 cents per gallon.
Um, it's likely that you've always paid a fee to restaurants when paying with a credit card because the restaurant has to pay the credit card company a fee for the service. It's a percentage that varies depending on the card (Amex might be 10% visa 13% mastercard 16% or whatever idk exact %s). It's incorporated into how they price the food. Now it's just being itemized on your check at the your meal.

Contracts signed by parents on behalf of their child still be enforceable once the child comes of age.
Taylor Swift and Lilly Allen are the big famous examples of this, but it happens to loads more who don't get big enough to get the media attention.
They did not sign the contract. Forcing an adult to live by the rules in the contract they did not agree should be classed as a form of slavery.

Load More Replies...Definitely! It's one thing to avoid a collaps and, during and because of that, bailing out companies that brought themselves in their messed up situation. BUT, first of all, this makes the investing agency of the state, in whatever level it happens, entitled to a share of their profit, according to the amount of their investment, second, it entitles the same state agency to have a say in everything just like any other shareholder at the very least, as they don't only represent people willingly investing, but the entire society, and third, it definitely should prohiibit anyone continuing just like before. Whatever brought you into needing to be bailed out, it sure is not what will prevent you from again needing it.
Gerrymandering. How the hell is it just for a politician to pick their constituents? It results in more extreme candidates and disenfranchised voters who got packed or cracked.
It's grade-A political corruption: defining voting districts entirely based on the demographics of the voters in said districts, to amplify the voices of political minorities (usually extreme right-wing political minorities). So, so many politicians in the US get elected against the will of the people at large by doing this.
Load More Replies...My state, Ohio, is particularly bad with this. We used to live within a 1/4 mile of a voting station. Was that OUR voting station? No. Ours was across town. But suckers,,, the party who f'ed up the jurisdictions to maintain their strangle hold backfired and the County flipped in the other direction.
Yop. We have a law here that if a "gerrymandering" fails you can no longer try to "gerrymander" the county forever. There was some attemps in the 2000s-2010s in my home province (clearly to advantage the political party in place). The first one worked, unfortunately. A lower/middle class neighborhood was vhistorically voting for left-leaning parties (2 prominent ones) and the representative was being a pain in the a*s of the gvt, so they fused an island full of rich / right-leaning citizens to the district and it was enough to flip the district in their favors for decades (until last election, where a left party got elected and reclaimed the district). Second one, same scenario but with a much poorer district that was voting for left-leaning parties. They tried to fuse it with a very rich neighborhood to the west and failed which means nobody can touch the district from now on.
A political game in which the winning side gets to redesign the playing field and the rules so they get all the desired playing pieces and therefore all the money, power and job security. It gets accused of leading to corruption, which is hogwash. How would controlling every aspect of the pursuit of power lead to corruption?
Congress owning stocks in any industry or company they regulate, take money from, etc. Corporations donating to political campaigns. Advertising prescription drugs to customers (the US is one of the only places this is still legal).

When they've been in a committed relationship for at least 18 months they can get a free reversal. Then after 2 children get another free vasectomy. Make it mandatory. Oh wait, all those men in government think that they should have control over women's bodies and that they are free to do whatever they want themselves.
Interesting logic, but reversals don’t always work so just as bad as forcing a woman to go through an unwanted pregnancy
Load More Replies...It can get worse. In some States its legal for a woman to go to a fertility clinic and use sperm from a donor to get pregnant, sue to find out the donor's identity, then sue the donor for child support. But, some States in the USA have finally made this illegal now.
Some states allow the baby "daddy" sue and get child support of the child even if the mother did not want the pregnancy in the first place and even if the "daddy" refuses to have anything do with the child. This has even been reported in the media. Not like the urban legend you describe.

When I go to a doctor and they suggest a test or procedure (an X ray for example), I should know how much I will be obligated to pay. I declined a procedure today the doctor suggested because I had no clue what it would cost ( I have insurance). It’s like going to a restaurant where the menu has no prices, except the “food” helps keep me “not sick or dead.”
I already know how much I will pay. Precisely nothing. That's because my country has state-funded healthcare. The correct complaint is having to pay for medical treatment at all. Free access to medical care should be a human right.
To be fair, not EVERY procedure or test is paid for by health care.

The doctors practice willful blindness to what procedures will be covered and explain you have to call your insurance provider. Why aren't THEY explaining to the insurance companies what NEEDS to be covered. [obviously I'm in the US]
I worked in doctor's offices for over a decade. Every insurance company's coverage is different, and there's no way a doctor can know what your particular policy covers. However, most medical offices should have a billing/insurance liaison that can help you with this. Ultimately though, it is the patient's responsibility to find out if any medical procedure is covered. Most offices will do this for you, though.

I would say 9 terms in the House to make it equal to the Senate. And 18 years on the Supreme Court. And I think we should let the President have three terms if they want to run.
Elected officials shouldn't get anything more than room and board and pay equal to the average minimum wage household...AFTER the necessities are paid. Then and only then will they comprehend the final effect of everything they do to the workers. And no benefits when they leave office other than the same ones the rest of us get.
I love it. TERM LIMITS. Most states have it for governors why not for Senate and House
This has been done in State Legislatures, foreign as well as domestically. The main effect that has been uniform across all of them is the loss of institutional memory and that this resulted in the increased reliance on lobbyists to write the proposals. Political campaign donations. All Political campaigns should be free to run. No one gets to advertise. Network TV Aires debates in prime time paid for by the taxpayer.
And just think how much nicer campaign season would be for the public if politicians could only afford a few campaign ads for a month or two rather than bombarding us with billboards, tv and youtube ads, website pop-ups, radio ads, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum for the entire year before an election. Not to mention that politicians might actually focus on doing their jobs once elected, rather than getting into office and immediately turning around to campaign for re-election.
I agreeee? BUT, how many candidates get the free funding? Just the primary parties?
Where I live, people have to collect a certain number of signatures to have their name printed on the ballot (though anyone can be a write-in candidate). People who can collect enough signatures to be on the ballot should also have access to public funding for campaigning.

Predatory Lending. This includes aggressive service charges/fees/etc.
Looking at mortgage companies that tried to get me into an adjustable rate-mortgage in 2010, right after the 2008 financial collapse, in which adjustable-rate mortgages played a big part in. Still I don't believe babies should have any procedure done unless its for actual medical purposes (including circumcision)
Ears peirced is painful and newborns shouldn’t have to go thru that if they’re not even old enough to consent. I begged for earrings and was only allowed to get them at ten, but I really wanted to. I just got my second piercing tho. But yeah it’s terrible wait till they ask or consent.
I've never thought that anything should be pushed on a child until they're old enough to decide for themselves. Religion, diet, educational path for a specific career, ear piercing...etc. Kids are smart. Give them all the info and let them decide for themselves.
Piercing or operating (circumcision) newborns/ children in any way other then necessary medical procedures!

this one definitely they are all predatory there have been tougher regulations brought in that capped the amount of interest and charges they could charge and a lot of companies went under because of it which shows that's how they made their profit if its a few days before payday and you need the help they can be not so bad bud they make it easy to get loans i had trouble before it was my own fault for taking them out in the first place but they made it so easy and at one point i had 5 loans with one company they should be illegal they are basically legal loan sharks.
They also have lax procedures. A friend received a repossession notice on his car from one. He'd never been in there. Turns out someone walked in with an expired registration for his car and they accepted it as collateral. Needless to say, they didn't win that one.

Being a MAP(Minor Attracted Person) and spreading that it's ok to be one and refusing to go to see a psychiatrist/therapist.
I guess I will be downvoted into oblivion, so maybe this will be my last post… I have nothing against people who are attracted to things/ persons they should not be. AS LONG AS they DO NOT ACT on it! You can‘t really help who you are attracted to. It‘s a feeling you cannot control. You can call it being sick or whatever. But as long as one does not do anything bad about it (you know what I mean), then those persons would be neutral for me. Neither good nor bad. There is an episode on The good doctor where a young man does everything he can to castrate himself and stay away from his sisters child, because he found that he was attracted to the kid. At the end he even kills himself. I think that episode was based on a real person but I am not sure. I was sad for him and I thought he was a good person. He was willing to maim himself rather than be tempted to do something bad, which I think he would not ever have done, with his strong sense of what is good and bad. I hope you understand me.
You're exactly right. We have absolutely no control over what we are and are not attracted to. Just like straight people didn't choose to be straight, pedophiles did not choose to be pedophiles. A pedophile is only a bad person when they harm a child. If they can control their "urges" by reading/writing stories or watching questionable anime or buying a small sex doll then there's no problem.
Load More Replies...No, don't call them "MAP"s. That's their own sanitized word for it. Call them what they are: pedophiles.
I read a series of interviews with people who felt attracted to minors, and all of them were horrified by their urges. They never acted on them, and sought professional help to try and get rid of them. The people who have the same urges and act on them have no excuse at all.
The term pedophile should still apply. Reasoning is that it is a good thing they are disgusted by their urges, society shoildnt try to minimise the potential crime with easier to handle terms. A person who contemplates murder but does not act on it is still able to understand they are a potential murderer and not something more palatable. They will get help to stop their urges if they want to knowing exactly how bad those urges are.

false advertisement of big food companies (For example: foods claiming sugarfree but actually contains sugar)
Food labelling is normally quite strict in most countries. There is a big difference between "no added sugar" and "sugarfree". Sometimes it borders on the ridiculous - my lactose-free milk cannot be labelled as "milk" - it is a "dairy drink" - yet it is literally just milk with an enzyme added to it.
Not to mention that milk allergen labels only apply to lactose. So if you have an allergen to say milk proteins you have to know all the preservatives and other milk derivatives since things like sodium casenate are not considered a "milk" allergy.
Load More Replies...Civil asset forfeiture.
Civil forfeiture in the United States, also called civil asset forfeiture or civil judicial forfeiture, is a process in which law enforcement officers take assets from people who are suspected of involvement with crime or illegal activity without necessarily charging the owners with wrongdoing.
Then it's the state vs $2500 in the court case. Can't get your property back despite being entirely innocent of everything, because they've filed the charges against the cash, house, car, or anything else they feel like.
Load More Replies...Supposedly the reason the government came up with this is because previously they could not seize assets unless someone was convicted of a crime, and thus had plenty of time to transfer their assets to other people. It has now become a lucrative source of funding for law enforcement agencies. If you are carrying a large amount if cash, and they find it, they can confiscate it because it might be ill-gotten funds. In some jurisdictions near the U.S. southern border, where drugs are being smuggled in from Mexico, the cops focus their efforts on pulling over the smugglers on their way back so they can confiscate the money, not bothering much with the actual shipments. You hear of people who have withdrawn a large amount of cash because they are traveling some distance to maje a large purchase, such as a used vehicle, and they get pulled over and basically robbed at gunpoint -- but legally! -- because they were traveling on a major interstate highway (pick one), a "known drug corridor"!
why? if you are in debt and/or you screwed someone out of money, they should be able to take your stuff to defray costs.
that is not what civil asset forfeiture is though. It is where it is legal for law enforcement to take your property/possessions because they have some belief it may have been used in a crime. They literally do not need a conviction nor does there need to be criminal charges placed

Like Boris Johnson promising 350 million pound every week for the NHS during his Brexit campaign?
Those predatory vehicle loan places for people with bad credit where you can be charged like quadruple what the car is worth and if the loan defaults the car can be sold over and over to more poor suckers.
Leasing a car to someone who doesn't have a business should be under this.
Never understood why anyone would lease a car. Dealer tried to get me on that scam once. In the end I would've paid full price for the car and either had to give it back or pay an additional $4000 to keep it. Not to mention the mileage limitations and other fine print restrictions. $4k was more than 25% of the sticker price.
Load More Replies...Same with the Rent-A-Center type places that rent to own household stuff for people that can't afford other options and don't have credit. As an example: an Amana 6.5 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer at Rent-A-Center is $14.99 A WEEK for 72 weeks, totaling $1,079.28. You can buy the EXACT dryer from Best Buy for $479.99. That is a difference of $599.29 - OVER DOUBLE! Not to mention the difference in the amount of extra taxes and fees charged by Rent-A- Center on the larger amount. I have never been desperate enough to buy anything there but I sure feel bad for anyone who falls into that trap.
I had to explain to someone that the jingle, "Your job's your credit" is not a good thing.
Ticketmaster. How is that not scalping?
I got 2 tickets from ozzys no more tours 2. even paid the extra 5$ for the paper ver to be mailed to me. got it all 100% refunded after it was canceled . I had them framed.
well if the person hosting/running the show doesn't know how to sell tickets online, I do not see the problem.
Ticket Master has contracts with the venues, they are not allowed to sell tickets any other way than through Ticket Master. They have a monopoly on it.
Load More Replies...Being in p*rn at the age of 18. Let's raise that age by at least 21 please (I would prefer 25, when the woman/man has a entire developed brain).
If 18 is old enough to sign up to fight and kill for your country then it's old enough to sign up to having sex in a video. As long as it's the person's choice and nobody is pressuring them then there's no issue.
Maybe we shouldn't allow 18 years olds to sign up to fight and kill either

they need protection exactly against their work.

reproductive coercion but especially stealthing. Getting pregnant by an unsuspecting man who is then forced into either fatherhood or worse, a nice extra income through child support.
Men can wear condoms, they are their own worst enemies too in many of these situations. You can't always accuse the woman of doing it deliberately either, they could be just as naively stupid as the so called entrapped men when it comes to sexual roulette with consequences.
Just a question but the woman can surely sabotage the condom right? (Please don’t downvote me)

A nice second income? Do you have any clue on how much kids shoes, clothes, classes, food, a roof, transport and everything else costs??
What!!!! You sound like a moron. If he is unsuspecting then he is uneducated. Any sex CAN equal babies. If you don't want babies don't have sex nothing else is 100% guaranteed. Wake up and smell the coffee
Having more than 15 items at the "15 items or less" checkout counter.
I had a row with someone that tried claiming that multiples of the same item still only counts as 1 item! Words were said, security was called, we both left with nothing...
LOL! I wish I could have been a spectator for that... it sure would have made grocery shopping more interesting.
Load More Replies...I don't mind this if the store is packed, or there are only a few tills open, and the 10 items/15 items or less counter is completely free. But I find it frustrating when there are plenty of other tills open the shopper could go to and there are multiple people with a few things in their baskets wanting to be served too. I was very frustrated with one shopper and the cashier as the person had 30+ items and then once the bags were packed decided it was better to continue to the chat with the cashier than pay and move out the way of other queuing shoppers.
Crypto Pump and dumps
fat chance you can control that. It's not just americans dude. It's from people all over the planet. Only way this will be controllable is with AI that detects a pump and slows trading volumes down.
P*rn. It isn’t healthy to be addicted. Stop making excuses. I can’t stress this enough.
christians must keep their noses out of my private affairs. Thanks.
they are equally involved, that's not a religious thing if it ever was, it's the inner nature. but i like how you guys are the hands washing each other - it's the christians, not, it's the atheists!
Load More Replies...How are those two connected? Sometimes watching it does not make you automatically an addict.
So then... does OP feel that alcohol and tobacco should also be illegal?
and video games and coffee....people are addicted to those too.
Load More Replies...I feel the same way about porn as I do sports. I'd rather be playing than watching!
Ummmm.... same can be said about alcohol, so should we bring back prohibition?
It's rarely and addiction and it becomes even rarer. It's usually either part of the package accompanying your social position, if you're "lucky" (all the dudes that downvoted this), or the most you can get if you aren't.
Do I have to watch porn to get addicted to it? Or am I already addicted to it because I used to be a performer in videos? Who becomes the addict?
Forcing a man to pay child support when he was pretty clear he didnt want the kid.
And forcing a woman to have to have a child that she's really clear she didn't want
Takes two to tango. Face up to the responsibilities and consequences of your sex life.
If he was stupid enough not to use contraception, he deserves to pay child support.
Does that mean if she was stupid enough to get pregnant, she deserves to have to raise a child.
Load More Replies...Yes it takes two to tango and all that but he has a legitimate point in all this anger. There is such a thing as entrapment. When I was in high school it was a thing. Girls did it premeditated and on purpose. They would get a date with a guy who was good looking and just really nice. And then tell him they were on birth control and get him to have sex. They weren't. They got pregnant on purpose to trap him into marriage. Others would get pregnant to get the single mom welfare checks. And child support checks. Stay at home and let the money come in. Never very much but to someone poverty level it was a free ride. Guys did it too. On purpose. Some really fine girl they managed to get a date with they told they had a vasectomy and then got her pregnant on purpose trapping her into marriage to take care of the baby. I'm sure this still goes on. Wear a condom. Just saying.
But if the woman wants an abortion and the guy doesn't he has no say. But if he doesn't want the baby, he still has no say. point, don't get women pregnant. Ever.
YOU ARE AN IDIOT. IF HE IS ADAMANT HE.DOES NOT WANT KIDS. DON'T HAVE SEX. IT'S SIMPLE. Nothing else is safer.
God yes don’t do the deed to begin with if you don’t know enough about your partner

Artificial sweeteners in EVERYTHING including non-diet items. Give me the sugar, I don't mind paying for it, but stop using artificial sweeteners, they don't solve the obesity crisis and they make people with chronic illnesses, like myself, very very sick. At least give us a choice!
I had to stop drinking several of my favorite NON diet sodas because they put in artificial sweeteners.
Load More Replies...People demonising others. I'm talking the extremists of any kind of group i.e. religuous people, vegans. If you don't obey their rules, you're not only beneath them, but actively disgusting. Extreme vegans I have to say are probably the worst for this because they are so damn smug about how "it's better for the environment". Actually, no. It's unsustainable for large amounts of the population, and a complete switch to a vegan diet overnight would ruin food security. Not to mention the majority of cute farm animals they're "saving" would go extinct without severe human intervention. And the worst kind of religious extremists (not including. like. terrorists) are those who use their religion as an excuse for bigotry or their own personal views. I'm not saying religion or veganism are bad. Just people need to stop demonising others because they don't agree. That's not going to convince them to agree with you, all it does is make you look like a pompous twat
This does of course go both ways, people in these groups should not be demonised for their choices either
