Just because something is technically legal doesn’t automatically make it good, moral, or fair for consumers and regular folks alike. It might mean that the law simply hasn’t caught up to reality, that there are glaring flaws and oversights in the legal system, (or that sneaky lobbyists conduct clandestine operations to sway the system in the favor of their multi-billion dollar clients).

There are tons of small things that annoy us in our day-to-day lives. Like receiving unsolicited email subscriptions. Being unable to unsubscribe from spam without jumping through more hoops than a show dog. Being forced to pay a ‘convenience’ fee for, well, pretty much anything. As well as realizing that the person you helped vote into political office isn't fulfilling the promises they made. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of some truly unpleasant practices that are still prevalent in 2022.

User u/cucutz fired up a very interesting discussion on r/AskReddit after they asked the digital crowd to share their thoughts about completely legal things that should become illegal. We’ve collected the most interesting insights to share with you Pandas. Scroll down to read them all, and don’t forget to upvote the posts you agree with. I agree with you on this but I’m not totally on the left I’d like to be in the center of the political spectrum so I understand that sometimes an abortion seems a little bit ummmm. that’s why I could describe it if you had consensual sex with your partner but nine months later you decided you can’t take it then do you really deserve an abortion if you’re not at risk for anything I know that the right wing way of thinking but again I’m trying to look at both ends of the street without being sucked into the extremes portrayed by the media

A lot of religions and tribes treat women as breeding stocks and some even disguise it as honorable. Its not honorable or desired if it is forced. Bodily autonomy should be respected.

It’s truly sad when some people in the United States value their constitutional right to bare arms over a woman’s right to her own bodily autonomy. Truly disturbing.

My choice was either get a termination (my iud failed) or end my own life because I will NOT be pregnant. It’s one of my worst phobias. So a place that makes the first option illegal is basically telling me to go jump off a cliff. (And if anyone wants to try the ‘why don’t you get sterilised?’ thing? I’ve been told for decades that I’m just ‘too immature’ to make the decision to never have kids. I’m in my late 40s)

Yeah the anti-choice crowd never factors the fact that women are living, breathing, established human beings worthy of making our own decisions. They tend to take the whole woman out of the equation, essentially telling us we’re chattel and the life of a fetus is more important and worthy than our own.

Forced birthers like to tout the use of family planning for contraception, but they ignore the fact that men often force themselves onto women and girls, and the only way to "plan" for that is to be on birth control, and if that fails, to have access to safe and legal abortion. Forced birthers should be legislating harder against violent men who assault us, not locking us and our doctors up.

It would be awesome if the GOP actually cared about kids *after* they're born. You know, by making sure those unwanted kids are actually fed, and not abused, and receive a decent education even if their parents don't have 2 sticks to rub together. What we see instead are kids whose Only hot meals come from the free lunch programs the alt-right seeks to Erase. We see a nation of yahoos who won't give up their "right" to the war toys that are killing thousands of kids each & every year. It's no coincidence that these same people gleefully support an unrepentent rapist. Yeah, I said it. If he were innocent of raping & battering a 13 yr old child, he'd Not be hiding the DNA that would prove his innocence. Logic tells me that, not TV brainwashing. The GOP's main motivations are nothing more than Power, Control & Greed. Trump's stooges are merely cowards supporting a bully in the hope that they'll benefit, too, from the misery of others. Hard to think of a less "Christian" mindset!

Some dogs need their tails clipped because they have huge powerful tails. Wagging their tails results in hitting things HARD; hard enough it breaks skin and they run around slapping blood all over the place. The wounds never heal and get infected.

One of the things mentioned in the r/AskReddit thread concerns receiving unsolicited emails. And it's a great example showing us how the lines between privacy and vulnerability to marketing have become blurred in recent years.

Look, we’ve probably all been there: you start getting emails from random people, clogging up your inbox with paragraphs about weird products, news that you never wanted to get, and offers that simply don’t interest you. The fact of the matter is that your email can end up on some ad or PR agency’s list without you having come into contact with them at all in the past. It happens far more often if you’re even a semi-public person and your contact info is visible somewhere on a company website or on social media.

I declawed my first kitten 15 years ago because I didn't know how painful it was for them,& the vet never said anything to me about it beforehand! I still have her,& I feel SO horrible about it!I was SO stupid!I didn't get a second cat until 2019. That cat I adopted from a rescue,& he was they *think* about 8 years old, and I knew he wasn't all that well, but I wanted him to have a good life. After I got him I found out he had bad eye infection, so he had to have this $2000 eye surgery. But I got it done for him. A few months later I found out that he had Cancer. The vet oncologist thought that giving him radiation would save him. It was $5000. We did the radiation, but 3 months later the Cancer was growing rapidly and I had to put him down. I only had him a year, but he was the most special pet I ever had. All the nights curled up next to him in his favorite bed, and all the syringe feedings & meds were worth every moment with him. Now I have such a soft spot for special needs cats.

The ONLY reason I could ever conceive of that'd make it okay by ANY stretch of the word is if the cat scratches itself bloody because of some incurable condition the symptoms of which can't be regulated effectively. We only realized recently that one of our cats is allergic to some uncommon additive in certain brands of cat food, but before we figured out what was (likely) causing it, he was scratching his ear bloody all the time. Despite the best possible care we could give him (and consistent vet visits), by the end the entire side of his little head was bald and full of wounds he made himself. Thankfully we and our vet have found a way to manage it and he healed very nicely, fur is growing back too, but when it was at its worst.... as much as I abhor the practice, it did flash through my mind that maybe it'd be kinder to declaw that one foot, because there was a very real danger that he'd damage his eye, get a piece of litter or some bacteria in the wound, and lose an eye, or worse.

There are little coverings that fit over their nails to stop them from scratching. I'd do that before ever putting a cat through a declawing. My first rescue cat was one that someone did this to. His personality changed so much after the fact that they didn't want him anymore and put him up for adoption. They told me he was so depressed that he wasn't eating anymore. Saddest thing I ever saw and I knew I just had to make it better for him...well as best as I could without being able to give him his toes back. :(

It's not so much the pain because they knock the cat out when they do it. It's the fact that, when cats use a scratching post, it's not only to sharpen their claws, it's to stretch their backs and muscles so they stay flexible. And for all of those saying "My cat is an indoor cat only." If the cat should escape out of the home, it needs a way to defend itself until it can be found and brought back.

We’d all probably love it if we were expressly asked if we’d like to subscribe to email lists from a company before they start sending us their newsletters like a bolt from the blue. And sometimes, the ‘unsubscribe’ function (which might take up to several steps) isn’t enough to get them off your back. They keep contacting you. Over. And over. And over again. In short, unsolicited mass marketing is annoying, and unsolicited bulk emails are the devil.

In the United States, for example, it’s perfectly legal to send out unsolicited commercial emails. There are some restrictions, however. Meanwhile, anti-spam laws appear to be stricter in the United Kingdom, and breaches of regulations can lead to fines of up to 500k pounds (around 568k dollars).

And cats!! YouTube and Facebook are filled with videos of flat-faced cats (such as Persians) that are meant to be cute. The cats themselves suffer from serious breathing problems, just like overbred pugs. In addition, "Munchkin" cats, who have been bred to have extremely short stumpy legs, suffer from lordosis (excessive curvature of the spine) and pectus excavatum (hollowed chest).

I think this is ok. As long as one does not breed them themself and/ or buy them directly from the breeder or a middleman, it‘s ok. Especially if you get it from a shelter or rescue.

Wait... This could work? You can't tell someone they can't spend money telling other people why they should vote for you. (And given that fact, it's probably better to allow direct campaign contributions, rather than forcing reliance on "independent expenditures.") You also can't tell Congress they can't learn how to regulate industry from the industries they seek to regulate. But maybe you can prevent the same people from doing both? If you advise Congress (""lobby"), you can't ALSO contribute to campaigns or independent expenditures?

I got a few emails (fortunately to my hotmail address - I use it for potentially risky websites, not adult websites, just ones that may hound me and I would rather keep my main email spam free) at the beginning of 2022 from the company Enfamil (they make baby formula). I do not have or want kids and they seem to think I do and that I live in the US when I live in Canada. I did not sign up for any emails from them and don't know how they got my email address. I haven't received any emails from them in quite a few months, thankfully, so my request to be removed from their mailing list must have worked. It was pretty obnoxious. I hope I don't get any more email from them. Ever.

It all comes down to the need for stricter privacy and information-sharing laws. It feels like a huge invasion of privacy when someone you don’t know starts offering services you don’t need. We see enough ads on billboards and on the TV, thank you very much.

Don’t get us wrong, the people sending those marketing emails are just doing their jobs and we’re sure most of them are perfectly decent folks. But boundaries have to be drawn. When you get an email, you expect it to be important, informative, or entertaining. What you don’t want is to have your time and energy wasted by a poorly-disguised ad.

Yes, and even when you pay a crazy amount for healthcare every month ($1800 w/$5000 deductible and 20% co-pay, and are limited to having services done at one hospital over an hour away) they STILL won't approve most stuff! I had to get an x-ray of my knee and I went to my regular doctor (listed with my insurance), and she sent me to get an X-ray of my knee because I had a HUGE bump on it that appeared for no reason. They still turned it down. $450 for the X-ray. My husband has Cancer. They paid 4 chemo, but it didn't completely work. Next option is a newly approved treatment. Insurance won't cover it. $425,000.

We don't actually have a healthcare system in the (former?) U.S., b/c there's more profit to be made by keeping people sick than by healing them. Today's fake "Christians" care about $$$ Far More than they are concerned w/ anyone's wellbeing. Cash is their King now, replacing the God that told them to care for those less fortunate. Seeing as they can't carry their riches w/ them when they go, one wonders how it all plays out for them. Guess it depends on one's belief in the existence of the soul. If we all have one of those, my guess is that those folks are likely Screwed. And if we don't have souls? Then I guess the majority of humanity is only screwed as long as we're still breathing. I've got my fingers crossed for good luck, though. Good luck that there IS some sort of cosmic justice for awful people who abuse others &/or happily profit from preventable misery.

I've seen lots of people showing off sugar glider pets. The sugar glider is a native Australian animal, meaning that Australians cannot make pets of them. Meaning someone from the US snuck into Australia, stole many of them and smuggled them back to the States to breed pets. This makes me angry, especially when vets help treat them, rather than reporting the owner to border authorities. Besides - who wants a pet that pisses everywhere, no matter how cute it looks? Also: exotic animals bought as pets and made to wear nappies. Humiliating and disgusting.

As an Australian it's infuriating. Lots of ignorant people see something cute and go "I want one!" without having any real interest in the species or its behaviour and environment. We aren't allowed to keep native species as pets here because it's really bad for the species as a whole, but shitty foreigners can smuggle our animals out to make gross tiktok videos about.

Otters sold as pets are often wild-caught pups. the parents are killed and the pups sold off to people who see cute otters playing in bathtubs in videos. Other pet otters are bred from animals kept in tiny cages. Otters are cute. They should not be pets.

I completely agree with this. I have a love/hate feeling about zoo's. On one hand it gives people an opportunity to see animals in real life that they wouldn't normally see, and that can spark curiosity and understanding of wild animals. Zoos can also help protect animals of going extinct. But wild animals aren't meant to be in cages or be contained. There are lots of amazing zoos that do great work, but we have all heard horror stories of other zoos.

I'm okay with small degrees of this: the original crested gecko population was wild caught, and grabbing a *very small* number of them from the wild to reintroduce into the existing lines for greater diversity would not be a bad thing. But when it is possible to breed captively, there's no excuse for still getting wild animals, save for the scenario where adding a couple wild back into the lines would be beneficial.

Some degree of preservation can be made this way, see: axolotls. That's a mess of genes right now too, and you can't really re-release the ones we have into the wild, but the animal hasn't gone extinct due to our efforts. Granted, our efforts should be different... like not destroying their mud-happy habitat entirely in the first place.

Here Are The 50 Worst Legal Things That Should Be Illegal, As Shared In This Online Thread It should be illegal to blatantly lie to voters while running for political office. We call it fraud and jail people for lying in order to gain financially. Yet we call it normal and allow politicians to lie in order to gain votes for political offices, offices which not only benefit them financially but also give them enormous amounts of power to benefit and detriment others. Then we wonder why political office seems so often to attract the most fraudulent, sociopathic, and dishonest among us. We basically have a neon sign over our political system saying, “If you enjoy committing fraud and are a pathological liar, please apply here… we will let you deceive as many of us as you possibly can for more money and power than you can dream of.”

I'll likely get downvoted for posting this, but what the hell. I think voting should be mandatory for all citizens. I am so sick of people going around complaining and "oh I did not vote, one vote does not count" bs. We're all in this together, either we choose those who govern the country in a responsible and democratic way or let's just turn totalitarian and stop pretending.

I think every person running for office from Governor and up should have to have a complete background check of EVERYTHING. From their education, their investments, businesses that they own, their taxes, other political people they have been linked to, and all their financial information. This would also include anyone who has donated money to them.It should all be made public so everyone has a clear cut in black & white statement of the person. If they don't submit it and have it publicly listed, then they can't even begin their campaign. It would just be facts. No opinions. They need to be required to have completed and understood a history of world history and politics. The other thing I would LOVE to see is that no politician can bash another. Stick to telling me what u can do. And the biggest thing we need is a clear cut ethical standard they HAVE to abide by! If u cross it, you are instantly out.

Absolutely love what you wrote. All of it. The bright, sterilizing light of Truth is the best (maybe only) way out of this mess. Sadly, too few people are equipped to grasp it, after decades of the govt. defunding Public Ed to pay for wars. t's no surprise that well-paid idiots on Faux now tell their minions that "a college education isn't worth the cost". (Tip: it IS). As it turns out, rich people don't want poor kids to get a leg up, b/c then their own spoiled scions (like DT's wretched offspring) would face more competition & may actually have to work to gain/keep the things they see as their entitled "birthright". They'd much rather dumb us all down, making it easier to retain Control & Power for Only themselves. Unfortunately, the lazy folks who don't like to feed their brains healthy info fully support that plan. Better to endure life as a slave than to have to work to achieve things, I guess. Esp when their overseers are giving them subtle permission to attack their "enemies".

On the couple of occasions that I have seen this happen, they actually called for people to volunteer to fly the next day, and were giving a free nights hotel stay and a cash incentive. If I hadn't needed to get back home on that particular flight, I might have been tempted to have a night out on the town at their expense. I understand why they do it - as there are always some last minute no shows - and they want to fly with the plane full.

I typically fly two times per week. I’m typing this on a plane right now. In the many years I’ve been doing this, I’ve only seen a handful of it being forced. Typically an airline closes check in a half hour or so before departure. If they’re not oversold, they rush those late travellers through to the gate. If they are oversold, they lock them out from checking in or boarding and bump them to the next flight out. Most of my monthly flights are high-volume inter-island and a few are trans-pacific. The longer flight never has to bump people as they don’t oversell. The shorter inter-island flights are always oversold and there’s always cancellations. The airline I fly can offer 14 daily departures from my location to their hub because they fly these smaller planes full. Thanks to overselling. Without it they’d have to have a no cancellation policy. The smaller airlines that fly this route are always adding and removing flights because lost revenue by flying with open seats.

If there's 100 seats on a plane, the airline will sell 105 tickets for it. They assume there will be last minute cancelations and no shows, and they are usually right. But sometimes everyone shows up and there is not enough seats for everyone, so they need to kick some people off the flight.

This happens because people (usually those who are traveling for business) will book and buy tickets on multiple flights, because they don't know what time their business will conclude. They don't bother to cancel the reservations they aren't going to use. Airlines use very complicated calculations to determine historically the average number of "no shows" on every flight. They're amazingly accurate in most cases. When they do get it wrong, passengers are compensated very well (at least on the major airlines. Maybe not so well on the budget carriers). When they can't get enough volunteers, passengers are involuntarily bumped - but that's rare - and who gets bumped goes by when they checked in for the flight. Check in at the last minute and you're likely to get bumped off an overbooked flight if no one volunteers.

Th rich live on cash flow that does not get taxed and corporations just add the new tax to their product and pass that tax on to the consumer. When you demand that corporations pay a minimum tax, you are demanding to have your taxes raised.

And the rich get richer. I bought a used car in another county with lower sales tax. Found out, in our state, you pay the taxes based on the county you live in not the county you purchase in when it comes to cars. However, if I would have gone to a store there and bought a blouse I would've been charged the lower sales tax. Guess they can't ask you for proof of where you live when you buy clothes or groceries or something.

Mom comes from backwoods GA, a town w/ something like 4 last names in its entire (very small, farming community) population. Went to a family reunion when I was 22. Everyone felt so sorry for my poor mother, having a "spinster" for a daughter. It was hilarious to me then, but saddens me now. To think all those folks were denied any real education (other than about farming implements & crop yields), trapped in poverty, married off by 15, having more babies than they could care for, and they want the SAME for their own kids & grandkids? That's terrible.

Whenever I see a "free trial" and click and it asks for my billing info, I close the web page. I already know they are banking on my busy life to forget to cancel and if I do remember to cancel, they make it hard as hell to do so. Not worth my time nor the aggravation.

Nah. I want my free week of whatever before I decide to commit. I also take the responsibility of setting a calendar alert reminding me to cancel if I don’t like it. I’d rather take charge of making sure I cancel than having the service stop mid-use. A free trial of a new steaming service is better than paying a month and not wanting it. The personal responsibility method saves one money if they cancel in time. Without the trial, one is just paying period.

I'd also like to add that our armed force veterans who have experienced unimaginable traumas and are suffering from PTSD find unexpected, unregulated firework displays terrifying. If it was bonfire night and New Years Eve only, that would be manageable but in the UK it seems that every night from Oct - Jan some idiot nearby is setting off fireworks from 4pm - 2am. I don't believe in an all out ban (although secretly I'd be thrilled if that went ahead!) but I feel only professional displays should be allowed. If fireworks are to be sold to the public then they should be soundless.

I used to be pro fireworks and loved doing them. Until some teens killed a beaver in a local park by throwing explosive in. Somehow, that story destroyed my liking of it all. In my city the damn banging goes on for weeks!! At New Year many young men go totallyy crazy, battle firemen, burn cars. It's nuts. Yes, sure, illegal, but who is going to stop them? I want the whole stuff gone, at least in cities! A few public fireworks that people can go look at and that's it.

Was trying to place an online order for pickup for a restaurant and was wondering why my total was so much higher than it should have been. They calculated and added a mandatory tip that I could not alter or remove. I'm all for paying for delivery, or a waiter for bringing me things, but to pay to retrieve a bag from a person at the restaurant, I was rubbed wrongly.

It’s annoying cause you know they aren’t paying servers a penny, and it isn’t coming out of their profits. Therefore, tipping should be included in the price, or waiters should be paid by restaurant owners.

No one seems to realise tipping is a hangover from the days of slavery and has deeply racist roots. Nowadays it’s a way for employers to profit from not paying their employees a living wage. It’s a catch 22 as well, because I know if I don’t tip, the service worker loses out and the employer profits, if I do tip, the service worker is a little better off and the employer still profits.

My fiance makes more than her co workers just in tips and they all will try and go home early if they have a slow day. Even pay each other to take a shift. So they would have to really pay them a lot to make up for the 200-300 a shift shes able to bring in

It is gross vanity to reframe that as holding their customers, the very ones with the power to fix the situation, "socially hostage". Don't like that? Don't eat there. Ta da. I fixed it for you. Our churches didn't have money for the abuse cases, we had money for infrastructure, programs, education, and financial aid. The courts stripped us of that in a disproportionate way considered to any other group that had abuse cases, and news flash, abuse happens EVERYWHERE, in every segment of society, statistically proven no more in the Catholic Church than any other segment of society.

The separation of Church and state is to say there will be no SINGLE church linked to the state. If you had any idea how much the churches relieve the burden of social service you would not make such a silly statement. The bigger issue is for churches that abuse their tax exempt status. they should lose it for sure

So I had to download the app for their electric utility and create an account. Now, at the beginning of every month, they have to give me the money to put in my bank so I can pay their bill. Tedious and their bill gets paid, but they really should have a location for people to go who don't have smartphones and don't use checks or debit cards.

The same should apply for "Inconvenience fees" for paying offline. In the UK we tend to have the opposite problem, where people are encourage to pay online or by direct payment from a bank account and are charged extra if they pay by other means. Sometimes this is seen as a discount for paying the way they want you to, but it still amounts to those who don't having to pay extra. There are still plenty of people who are not online (my parents included) and quite a few who do not have bank accounts.

This also needs to apply for when you pay with a credit or debit card. In my state, it’s legal for businesses and restaurants to add a percentage to your bill if you pay with a card. And when getting gas, if you pay with a card, you may be charged an extra 3 to 10 cents per gallon.

Um, it's likely that you've always paid a fee to restaurants when paying with a credit card because the restaurant has to pay the credit card company a fee for the service. It's a percentage that varies depending on the card (Amex might be 10% visa 13% mastercard 16% or whatever idk exact %s). It's incorporated into how they price the food. Now it's just being itemized on your check at the your meal.

Here Are The 50 Worst Legal Things That Should Be Illegal, As Shared In This Online Thread Contracts signed by parents on behalf of their child still be enforceable once the child comes of age. Taylor Swift and Lilly Allen are the big famous examples of this, but it happens to loads more who don't get big enough to get the media attention. They did not sign the contract. Forcing an adult to live by the rules in the contract they did not agree should be classed as a form of slavery.

I'm would be pretty sure the parents, or legal guardians, could insist that the contract terminates on the child's eighteenth birthday. I put this on the heads of s**t head parents.

Here in Germany they law says that the child can opt out when it's of age and Not accoutable. However, many do not know this - or they do NOT want the reprecussions their parents will face.

Apparently it can be done so the child ends up heavily in debt, like them owning a car with a thousand parking tickets.

There are several ways to void such contracts but only if you void the entire contract not just to change the terms.

There was a comedian who had a bit about these ads. I wish I could remember his name. It went something like, “you see these ads with all these happy people and hear ‘talk with your doctor about ’. And so you bring it up and doc says ‘oh, you have a**l warts?” Point being that the ads don’t have to mention what the med is for and until recently didn’t have to mention side effects.

Please, give equal time to your cult leader. Seems like his crimes take the cake here. If NP did it, too, then shame on her. Let's unmask them All. It's the Only way to rid ourselves of deep corruption, on Both sides of the aisle. Still, 1 of those sides is trying to achieve good results for ALL of us. The other is happy to sell anything of value off to billionaires, criminals & despots. To attack someone for a relative misdemeanor while championing someone Far Worse is to ALSO be corrupt. That's the mindset of a dangerous bully like DJT, someone who believed he could commit murder on the street & get away with it. Then he proved himself correct, by killing hundreds of thousands of us via a "Hoax!" that's actually a deadly contagion. Isn't it time for your daily Ivermectin? Btw, those "rope worms" are actually pieces of your stomach's lining, which you body needs. Wise up.

If someone is in a life threatening emergency and a video that is maybe 15 seconds long can save their life just in time, the unskippable ads will use up those 15 seconds eventually leading to death or terrible complications. I don't know about other countries, but in the UK... While police may want you to think you legally have to tell them the truth, it is not actually an offence to lie to a police officer unless you're wasting police time or perverting the course of justice. You can only be prosecuted if you lie and sign a declaration or if you lie in court. Even then, it's not a lie if you believe it, but were mistaken. I imagine other countries the have a similar kind of thing.

Definitely! It's one thing to avoid a collaps and, during and because of that, bailing out companies that brought themselves in their messed up situation. BUT, first of all, this makes the investing agency of the state, in whatever level it happens, entitled to a share of their profit, according to the amount of their investment, second, it entitles the same state agency to have a say in everything just like any other shareholder at the very least, as they don't only represent people willingly investing, but the entire society, and third, it definitely should prohiibit anyone continuing just like before. Whatever brought you into needing to be bailed out, it sure is not what will prevent you from again needing it.

It's grade-A political corruption: defining voting districts entirely based on the demographics of the voters in said districts, to amplify the voices of political minorities (usually extreme right-wing political minorities). So, so many politicians in the US get elected against the will of the people at large by doing this.

My state, Ohio, is particularly bad with this. The people passed an amendment to redraw districts fairly, and the new map kept getting rejected by the state Supreme Court because it was still crooked. Now the legislature is trying to pass a law that wouldn't allow the court to have any say in anything election-related.

Yop. We have a law here that if a "gerrymandering" fails you can no longer try to "gerrymander" the county forever. There was some attemps in the 2000s-2010s in my home province (clearly to advantage the political party in place). The first one worked, unfortunately. A lower/middle class neighborhood was vhistorically voting for left-leaning parties (2 prominent ones) and the representative was being a pain in the a*s of the gvt, so they fused an island full of rich / right-leaning citizens to the district and it was enough to flip the district in their favors for decades (until last election, where a left party got elected and reclaimed the district). Second one, same scenario but with a much poorer district that was voting for left-leaning parties. They tried to fuse it with a very rich neighborhood to the west and failed which means nobody can touch the district from now on.

A political game in which the winning side gets to redesign the playing field and the rules so they get all the desired playing pieces and therefore all the money, power and job security. It gets accused of leading to corruption, which is hogwash. How would controlling every aspect of the pursuit of power lead to corruption?

Asa female i Agree 100%. Men wear your condom, thankfully you can DNA test these days but it's a wild ride from accusation to absolution. I do also hate those that skip out on their paternal responsibilities mind you.

DNA tests are available so if you’re not the father you’re not responsible. In all other cases, if you have sex with a fertile woman, you might get her pregnant and it’s on you to provide for the resulting kids.

HAHAHAHA! That's funny right there. Married but the test comes back not yours? In the interest of the child it's yours to support. Mother puts your name on the BC w/o your knowledge? It's yours. The child's welfare is prioritized over facts.

Which is why I believe that as soon as men turn 18 they have to get a free vasectomy. When they've been in a committed relationship for at least 18 months they can get a free reversal. Then after 2 children get another free vasectomy. Make it mandatory. Oh wait, all those men in government think that they should have control over women's bodies and that they are free to do whatever they want themselves.

Interesting logic, but reversals don’t always work so just as bad as forcing a woman to go through an unwanted pregnancy

It can get worse. In some States its legal for a woman to go to a fertility clinic and use sperm from a donor to get pregnant, sue to find out the donor's identity, then sue the donor for child support. But, some States in the USA have finally made this illegal now.

Some states allow the baby "daddy" sue and get child support of the child even if the mother did not want the pregnancy in the first place and even if the "daddy" refuses to have anything do with the child. This has even been reported in the media. Not like the urban legend you describe.

Reproductive abuse is indeed awful, but never the resulting child's fault. Guys who got trapped were irresponsible, plain & simple. And the women who trapped them make me ashamed to share a gender with them. But it seems a far less prevalent crime than rape & battery, looking at the vast amount of untested rape kits gathering dust on evidence shelves in police stations across our nation. Hey, maybe the real answer here is for More people to actually care about other humans - men, women And kids. Sadly, on any given day, the needs/rights/pain of 2 of those 3 groups are pretty much ignored. One group has even lost bodily autonomy, while the other is allowed to be legally sex-trafficked via marriage at 14 if their parents agree to it. WTaF. Sorry, guys, get in line - lots of pain here to go around. Enough for everyone.

Here Are The 50 Worst Legal Things That Should Be Illegal, As Shared In This Online Thread When I go to a doctor and they suggest a test or procedure (an X ray for example), I should know how much I will be obligated to pay. I declined a procedure today the doctor suggested because I had no clue what it would cost ( I have insurance). It’s like going to a restaurant where the menu has no prices, except the “food” helps keep me “not sick or dead.”

I worked in doctor's offices for over a decade. Every insurance company's coverage is different, and there's no way a doctor can know what your particular policy covers. However, most medical offices should have a billing/insurance liaison that can help you with this. Ultimately though, it is the patient's responsibility to find out if any medical procedure is covered. Most offices will do this for you, though.

This has been done in State Legislatures, foreign as well as domestically. The main effect that has been uniform across all of them is the loss of institutional memory and that this resulted in the increased reliance on lobbyists to write the proposals. We need a class action law suit for mental distress over terroristic political adds. The repetition is torture and creates hysteria and hatred and inflames mental disease. All this because of the first amendment of the constitution? Propaganda should not impinge upon my right to peaceful programing. Mainstream Media should NOT be able to impinge on lifelong right to pleasurable PUBLIC programming. People who LIKE hysteria should be relegated to alternate program channels, not public channels. They should pay up front as a consumer and be restricted in the free (No Cost) channels. I am an Elder that only watches regular TV, news and some comedies. But I can't watch ANYTHING anymore. This is actually being addressed, but not by laws. Car headlights are now factored in when determining the safety rating of a vehicle. One of the criteria is how the lights influence oncoming drives. Obviously, this is completely voluntary on the manufacturers but to get the highest rating your lights can't blind other drivers.

Banks in general are out of control with fees and rates. They pay less than 1% on your money but charge anywhere from 5 to 30% for theirs on top of ridiculous fees. Get a mortgage and see what kind of fees they charge you for doing their job. They even charge to lock in the rate. That's BS. It's not the customers fault they take months to do what shouldn't take more than 2 weeks.

A sort-of-bank that will give you a cash advance on your paycheck for a ridiculous fee. This inevitably makes you short on funds the next month and it becomes a cycle you can’t get out of.

Sending catalogs to my house without my permission. The quantity of paper that is wasted is unreal. We call to have them cancelled but they keep coming. I have to pay to have my trash collected where I live, so basically those companies are forcing me to pay to throw away their garbage that they created unnecessarily and there is nothing i can do.

I think I may have found one even worse than this. Back when we could afford, we used to donate a small amount to charity each month. After a few months we started getting junk mail from the charity (which is a huge multi-national) saying thanks for £x please can you increase it to £y? Bit cheeky, we thought, but carried on as normal. This continued until they were sending us 3-4 begging letters a week at which point we thought 'We're not helping the desired cause, we're just paying them to write to us asking for more'. So we cancelled the donation. Unbelievable.

I did something similar. Made a small monthly donation to an animal charity for years, then stopped when I found out the CEO made over one million in salary per year. Got a solicitation phone call asking me to continue my donations. Said I'd be giving locally to a small shelter instead.

For years my son has been receiving magazines for years. No one in the family is ordering them, no one we know is ordering them. Obviously whoever it is knows nothing about him. Tried cancelling them once. Call the subscription department, they tell me it's through (company) and I have to call them. In the end took 30 minutes to cancel one. Each one is a different company. So I just let them come and toss them in the recycle. Of course the (company) has no record of who actually is placing these orders.

Most fast food companies use factory farming, as do Tyson, Hormel, and Perdue. Consider finding alternatives whenever possible. A good place to start online is: https://www.organicconsumers.org/essays/consumer-guide-boycotting-factory-farms-part-one Also, consider branching into veggie-based foods when not sure how the meat is sourced or there are no good options. Thanks for caring!

Big Pharma advertisements for medications. Medicine should be something you research yourself or consult your doctor about. It shouldn't be pushed by a goddamn commercial with puppies and butterflies while a family is laughing and playing in the sunlight, only for someone to rattle off 30 side-effects in a low voice, followed by someone saying "Ask your doctor about this."

Really, ANY infant genital mutilation should be illegal. Invasive and entirely unnecessary procedures are performed daily to "correct" all sorts of entirely benign but "visually unappealing" intersex conditions on infants, sometimes going so far as what can only be described as sexual reassignment surgery. Sickening.

I guess I will be downvoted into oblivion, so maybe this will be my last post… I have nothing against people who are attracted to things/ persons they should not be. AS LONG AS they DO NOT ACT on it! You can‘t really help who you are attracted to. It‘s a feeling you cannot control. You can call it being sick or whatever. But as long as one does not do anything bad about it (you know what I mean), then those persons would be neutral for me. Neither good nor bad. There is an episode on The good doctor where a young man does everything he can to castrate himself and stay away from his sisters child, because he found that he was attracted to the kid. At the end he even kills himself. I think that episode was based on a real person but I am not sure. I was sad for him and I thought he was a good person. He was willing to maim himself rather than be tempted to do something bad, which I think he would not ever have done, with his strong sense of what is good and bad. I hope you understand me.

You're exactly right. We have absolutely no control over what we are and are not attracted to. Just like straight people didn't choose to be straight, pedophiles did not choose to be pedophiles. A pedophile is only a bad person when they harm a child. If they can control their "urges" by reading/writing stories or watching questionable anime or buying a small sex doll then there's no problem.

I read a series of interviews with people who felt attracted to minors, and all of them were horrified by their urges. They never acted on them, and sought professional help to try and get rid of them. The people who have the same urges and act on them have no excuse at all.

    Libstak

The term pedophile should still apply. Reasoning is that it is a good thing they are disgusted by their urges, society shoildnt try to minimise the potential crime with easier to handle terms. A person who contemplates murder but does not act on it is still able to understand they are a potential murderer and not something more palatable. They will get help to stop their urges if they want to knowing exactly how bad those urges are.

And because it is under the partnership and it's not part of the estate, they can avoid inheritance tax when the majority owner dies.

I agree! I'm allergic to something stupid that often gets hidden there (bell peppers) and usually don't find out till I have a reaction. Then I have to go through everything that was in the meal and narrow it down and call companies to check and see. It's how I learned Lea and Perrins' Worcestershire sauce has fermented bell peppers in it, because they're under the natural flavorings.

I never heard of anyone having a food allergy until the 80's. Kind of makes me think food in general was better and safer prior to that. All the c**p the US sticks in food that most of the world doesn't allow must be the problem or at least a major contributor. Many foods certainly tasted and performed differently prior to then.

Food labelling is normally quite strict in most countries. There is a big difference between "no added sugar" and "sugarfree". Sometimes it borders on the ridiculous - my lactose-free milk cannot be labelled as "milk" - it is a "dairy drink" - yet it is literally just milk with an enzyme added to it.

Not to mention that milk allergen labels only apply to lactose. So if you have an allergen to say milk proteins you have to know all the preservatives and other milk derivatives since things like sodium casenate are not considered a "milk" allergy.

Civil forfeiture in the United States, also called civil asset forfeiture or civil judicial forfeiture, is a process in which law enforcement officers take assets from people who are suspected of involvement with crime or illegal activity without necessarily charging the owners with wrongdoing.

Supposedly the reason the government came up with this is because previously they could not seize assets unless someone was convicted of a crime, and thus had plenty of time to transfer their assets to other people. It has now become a lucrative source of funding for law enforcement agencies. If you are carrying a large amount if cash, and they find it, they can confiscate it because it might be ill-gotten funds. In some jurisdictions near the U.S. southern border, where drugs are being smuggled in from Mexico, the cops focus their efforts on pulling over the smugglers on their way back so they can confiscate the money, not bothering much with the actual shipments. You hear of people who have withdrawn a large amount of cash because they are traveling some distance to maje a large purchase, such as a used vehicle, and they get pulled over and basically robbed at gunpoint -- but legally! -- because they were traveling on a major interstate highway (pick one), a "known drug corridor"!

Same with the Rent-A-Center type places that rent to own household stuff for people that can't afford other options and don't have credit. As an example: an Amana 6.5 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer at Rent-A-Center is $14.99 A WEEK for 72 weeks, totaling $1,079.28. You can buy the EXACT dryer from Best Buy for $479.99. That is a difference of $599.29 - OVER DOUBLE! Not to mention the difference in the amount of extra taxes and fees charged by Rent-A- Center on the larger amount. I have never been desperate enough to buy anything there but I sure feel bad for anyone who falls into that trap.

I don't mind this if the store is packed, or there are only a few tills open, and the 10 items/15 items or less counter is completely free. But I find it frustrating when there are plenty of other tills open the shopper could go to and there are multiple people with a few things in their baskets wanting to be served too. I was very frustrated with one shopper and the cashier as the person had 30+ items and then once the bags were packed decided it was better to continue to the chat with the cashier than pay and move out the way of other queuing shoppers.

Yes it takes two to tango and all that but he has a legitimate point in all this anger. There is such a thing as entrapment. When I was in high school it was a thing. Girls did it premeditated and on purpose. They would get a date with a guy who was good looking and just really nice. And then tell him they were on birth control and get him to have sex. They weren't. They got pregnant on purpose to trap him into marriage. Others would get pregnant to get the single mom welfare checks. And child support checks. Stay at home and let the money come in. Never very much but to someone poverty level it was a free ride. Guys did it too. On purpose. Some really fine girl they managed to get a date with they told they had a vasectomy and then got her pregnant on purpose trapping her into marriage to take care of the baby. I'm sure this still goes on. Wear a condom. Just saying.
