In many situations, being woke can be a great thing. You should definitely call out your uncle for making the same offensive jokes that he could barely get away with thirty years ago. And it’s a good idea to gently explain to your grandmother that she misgendered your partner, even if it’s hard for her to grasp the nuances of gender identity.

But we all know that it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, and apparently, that includes being woke. Leftists on TikTok have recently been sharing the most extreme progressive takes they’ve ever heard, so we’ve gathered the wildest ones down below. We are certainly all for diversity, inclusion and equity, but maybe we don’t need to overthink every single thing we say and do for fear of being canceled. Enjoy scrolling through this list, and be sure to upvote the responses that you agree were a bit too woke!

My unpopular personal view is this: If it's shown that my child would be born disabled, I would abort. I do not have the resources for a disabled child, I don't want them to have a low quality of life, and if I put them up for adoption their chances are even lower.

I recently heard that reading to and with your young children is controversial, because some people don't do it and are "made" to feel bad about it by seeing actual, caring parents??? What a time to be alive...

Some children should have been abortions for their own sake. It's a hot take but when I see kids who have no quality of life I feel like it's kinder to just abort.

Refusing to accept that time blindness is a genuine conditionand that some people with time blindness struggle more than others to control these symptoms is really frustrating. Not all people with a disability cope with it in the same way. We are already having to put in so much more effort just to keep our heads above waterm but are then treated like we are deliberately lazy. It's beyond frustrating. If we were being lazy then we'd sit at home on welfare and not bust our bálls trying to work.

So, most advocate for defunding the police, not abolishing it. Police have had the same job description creep that teachers and nurses have experienced, only, without the training and ability to handle it. Those other professions have critical thinking skills and piles of background knowledge they can pull from (and our jobs should be lessened in scope, too!) but police are basically highschoolers with guns - you think they can tackle the complexities of counseling someone through s******l thoughts or dealing with the social and personal issues that lead to homelessness? When you can deploy two social workers for the same money as one officer - people who are higher-skilled and more effective at addressing social problems - why wouldn't you be smart about spending the money? Hell, if you consider the police cruiser that officer would drive in, you could get another two people for the same price! Do they really need MRAPs to enforce speeding? Or M16s for crowd control?

Abolish Ice, not police. Instead of buying police tanks and military weapons we need to use that money to train them better in de-escalation, sensitivity, and cultural outreach. Also make sure they have mandatory psych evaluations every 6 months and before starting the job. Too many people become cops because they like the control and violence, those are not the people who should be protecting and serving.

She has had it mostly under control for quite a while so five years ago she wrote a public Facebook post about it in the hope that other sufferers might be helped by her story. She ended up not only deleting the post but shutting down her account entirely because of the sheer number of people yelling at her because apparently anorexia is fatphobia by another name! Ableist describes attitudes, behaviours, and systemic structures that discriminate against disabled people based on the belief that non-disabled people are superior or more capable. It involves negative stereotypes, social prejudice, and unfair treatment, often stemming from the assumption that disability is inherently less valuable or a condition that needs "fixing".

Why not talk about down syndrome? Because those are "sun children"? Because there are some portraied in the media that are quite autonome living? These are the best cases, Most are in a quite more "basic" level. There are enough things that you don't know that can happen with your child, do you really want to know beforehand that it will be dependant on others for it's whole life? If yes: okay, you do you, but let others decided for themselves!

I always wonder why it is so difficult to see the connection between these two things: If you are generally well off, social disapproval may be something you want to avoid. If you are starving, the punishment of having your hand chopped off will not stop you from stealing. And there are a thousand other worlds in between. The best way to curb crime is to avoid creating incentives for it, to offer help in emergencies and to make society fair. Even then, sanctions will be necessary. But punishment alone will not get crime under control. Neither will the absence of punishment. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

I was at the dentist office few days ago and it was wild and weird that he asked in multiple occasions if it was ok to touch the insides of my cheeks/put tools in my mouth etc. Like why do you think I'm here?! So unfair that so many professionals has to ask consent so they can do their jobs that you came there for.

My doctor does the same. I mean I've just told you I've got a weird mole on my chest, that's what I'm here for... But if course the real reason is because of decades of doctors saying "ok remove your top I'm just going to check out your breasts while we're here" when you're there for a verruca.

I have sensory issues and I hate people touching my head. Sometimes I have to go to the hairdresser and of course I know why I’m there but I really appreciate asking. It’s less “can I touch your hair” and more “can we start?/can I touch your hair NOW?”. Think about it that way: if you have a tick, of course you want it out and you appreciate a person helping you with it but it’s still unpleasant and you would probably expect “ready?” before the pulling.

This! I can't understand how shaving my armpits could possibly be about men. Or in my case about looking good. If I don't shave the smell of swetting is worse and if I do my deodorant works better. That's it, just a hygiene thing.

To be fair when I do it, I feel like it is automatically about men because I am men and the choice is for me. Actually, it creates a horrible paradox where it both is and isn't for men. However, I feel like not wanting to be hairy is a perfectly valid want regardless of s*x or what the other s*x wants.

K, white privilege doesn't mean nothing happens to us. You can still be privileged in some areas and not in others. So, let's pull this out of WW2 because it's too charged and back into the Victorian era. A simplified British social order goes: rich English, bourgeois English, working English, Scotch, Irish, French, Indian, black. Now, it was still possible for Irish people to have white privilege in British society and still not be at the top of the pecking order. So did Anne Frank have white privilege? Yes, because it's a relative and circumstantial concept. The Nazis would have to think for a couple seconds before they called her a slur, where the black guy next to her gets one immediately. Does the black guy have privilège in how he's not being actively hunted for the camps? Yeah. Privilege can be had in be one situation and not in another, and privilege does not mean you never have problems. Playing "who had it worse" when all options suck is a stupid game.

Yeah, your description of British society levels in Victorian times is BS, it was all about wealth. No way would a working class Englishman be seen as having greater privilege than a rich Frenchman, Irishman or Scot (not Scotch - that's a drink).

Absolutely agreed. There's currently a case before the Irish courts whereby a "woman," had his s***m frozen, and claims not being listed as the child's mother is against his human rights (under Irish law he can be listed as the father unsurprisingly). The child is not Irish' the mother is not Irish and the father only holds an Irish passport through Irish ancestry...

So, I get chest feeding because breaststroke are an anatomical part of your body, however birthing person is someone who is the room with you when you give birth that isn't a medical professional in most cases and pregnant person is used to refer to people who were assigned female at birth who are pregnant but are maybe intersex or nonbinary. I swear we arent trying to erase the validity of women, just find a label that suits other people. If someone I know is pregnant and identifies as a woman then they are still a pregnant woman in my mind.

I once made the test for myself on a playground, where you can't see the gender of the three -year -olds: when I imagined them being girls I perceived their actions differently than when I saw them as boys. And I'm afraid my Interactions are influenced by that. It's eye-opening and I'd recommend it, though it's best doing it when you're there with kids yourself, I reckon.

It will NOT deter creeps, 25 would just become the new “barely legal” and it would open the doors for people in their 20’s to get with teenagers. Not to mention you’d extend the time that people are trapped in abusive situations, especially for child marriage victims considering you have to be a legal adult to obtain a divorce and domestic violence shelters can’t house minors. The list of faults go on and on.

It's one of those things that there just can't ever be a perfect age restriction for and we just have to go with whatever we believe minimises harm the most. It's 16 where I am, too, and I think 18 is a bit weird as well. Some people are going to be emotionally mature enough at that age, some people aren't. Just to be clear I'm not saying "we can't get this exactly right so we shouldn't bother", but "we can't get this exactly right so we'll take the best approximation".

Several years ago a young woman in Melbourne ,Australia was brutally assulted and m******d by a stranger, walking home from her job.She was less than a block from home but had been followed across the city. The perpetrator was caught a short time later and almost immediately it was reported that he was Autistic. Almost as a way of saying he wasn't responsible for his actions. (He also exclusively watched violent ,murder p**n which I personally think was far more to blame). The thing is ,his victim was also on the spectrum but that was hardly mentioned in the media. Yet there she was ,holding down a stressful job, minding her own business and quietly walking home. Whether he was autistic or not had no bearing on the fact that he is a violent predator.

Almost everything labelled cultural appropriation isn't. You appropriate something when you make it unusable by members of the originating culture because you have destroyed/trivialised the great cultural significance it had for them and replaced it in popular consciousness with 'trendy thing'. Borrowing things you like from other cultures doesn't, inherently, appropriate them. So wearing a pair of moccasins because they are comfortable doesn't appropriate Native American culture, wearing a war bonnet and facepaint to make an idiot of yourself supporting your football team does.

Generally the problem is over generalization and extrapolation. See corn row hair styles. They are frequently disparaged or seen as trashy. Someone who's black is effectively being restricted, or at least looked down on, for having them. They then see a white person with corn rows and label it as cultural appropriation, but the accusation fails on multiple levels. A) That white person probably doesn't view them as trashy, or they wouldn't be sporting them B) That white person would also be subject to the same disparagement in many cases, often with added disparagement for seeming like something of a sellout to their race. A lot of the people using the term appropriation are lloking for something like cultural isolation, which honestly is a terrible route, and saying that it's about one race suppressing another is in-and-of-itself, racist. You are making the assumption that someone's motivation for wanting the corn rows is racist based solely on their race, which is an inferior trait.

I'm not convinced though, that showing interest even in an awkward, foolish or cringy way, is always disrespect. Herman Melvilles books do have pretty awful parts. Yet it was a step away from the racist views of his time, and his Quiqeg taught me interest in other worlds as a child, as did even Karl May.

The whole cultural appropriation thing is just masked bigotry from people who want people segregated out. In general, humans seem to like to share stuff and experiences with each other. It's almost like some of us just can't play well with others.

What utter nonsense. If that were true, as Halloween is really a Celtic pagan festival, everyone who isn't a Celtic pagan but dresses up on Halloween would be guilty of cultural appropriation.

I hate the disgusting old idea that poverty is somehow a genetic trait ("bad breeding"). Saying someone should not have children because they will not be able to raise them in a safe healthy environment, while not very nice, at least shows concern for the child and is miles away from saying that same person should not have children because they are racially inferior (which is evident by their poverty).

What are you saying? That the homeless mothers out there should be killed because they are in a situation that hurts them and their children? Why is everyone throwing around the word eugenics? That's what Hitler did to the Jewish people. You want that?

But there is a danger in saying cheating is sexual a*****t. A*****t is an attack either physically, verbally or mentally. Cheating is deception. They are not the same. This is where definition matters. If you define both the same, they will be treated the same, and eventually they will be punished the same. We do not live in a world of nuance. We live in a very real world where adultery is punishable by death in some cultures. And if you haven't been paying attention, we are in danger of being one of those cultures. No matter what, we don't want to give power hungry governments the license to k**l us for sleeping around.

Let’s just all agree: cheating is bad. Even if your partner sucks, I’d suggest finding another way to deal with your pain, including leaving if you are able. Cheating rips your soul into pieces for people that are never worth the trouble. Once that fantasy bubble pops…it’s all over.

Growing up, we always had a charity wall calendar in the house, featuring art painted by people who had to use their feet or mouths to paint. The pictures were beautiful. It never occurred to me that people with physical restrictions could not access or create art. Amazing what a little wall calendar can do in changing people's perception. It's actually ableist to think people can only interact with art if they have AI.

Asking a newborn / informing them you will he changing their diapers/nappies is just being, polite and the parents/guardians/caregivers hitting used to getting consent. It gradually introduces the concept of consent at an early age in a gradual, and hopefully healthy way. Just don't expect a coherent answer, it's really just a polite question, that's gets the person used to talking, communicating and asking/ questioning the child, which will hopefully continue and develop as the child gets older. I've noticed a trend toward using 'folks' as a less gendered form of 'guys'. I don't have a problem with younger people choosing to make a change from gendered to less gendered forms of language and I'm not sure why I should.

That adoption was unethical and exploitative because the parents have a “savior complex” and that we shouldn’t expect having access to children to be a “universal right” based on a family’s socioeconomic status. Re the socio-economic status part, yes and no. If someone cannot afford to raise a child and the state is unwilling to subsidise them (which would be cheaper than keeping the child in care anyway) then I can see why there's a threshold. However deciding between two sets of prospective parents on the basis of who has more money when they both have enough doesn't sound right.

"a “universal right” based on a family’s socioeconomic status" is an oxymoron. Either it's a universal right, in which case it's a right for everybody, OR it's based on socio-economic status, in which case it isn't a universal right. EDIT: OK, downvoter, tell me exactly what was wrong in my statement.

Person B just said "Do your own research." So we did and we could not find any evidence that the phrase was considered racist or used in a racist way at any point in US history. This isn't "woke," this is misunderstanding that gender expression and sexual attraction/orientation are separate concepts. I am genetically a man (s*x) who presents as a man (sexual expression) and likes women (sexual orientation). My clothes don't determine who I'm attracted to. If you're still lost , it's like plotting on an X, Y, and Z axis! So it's entirely possible for someone to have been born a man, choose to present outwardly as a woman, and still be into dudes - that's not gay that's a trans woman into men.

I think they're confusing "Trans man" (aka, a person assigned female at birth who identifies as a man) with "transmasc" (transmasculine) which is more vague. Transmasc people don't necessarily identify as male, they may identify as agender or nonbinary. Agender and nonbinary people do and can identify as lesbian- though usually defined as "women loving women", many have come to define it as "non-men loving non-men".

Ace people can enjoy the biological aspects of s*x but no, someone who has and enjoys an average s*x life isn't ace. Also most gay trans femboys are just cishet girls with a yaoi f****h. Bluntly: education is not a passive process, if one wants to learn something, one shall put effort into it. Also, why does this one believe that I have the necessary knowledge and expertise to teach them? Am I presented as a vetted educator of that field, or do I just try to convince them about my understanding, with dubious methods?

Trigger warnings are used by the media to increase engagement with their content. It's a sneaky trick that most people aren't aware of. The mere presence of a trigger warning makes you more likely to look at the content.

We currently have politicians from 6 political parties in government in New Zealand, one Prime Minister and two party leaders rotate being Deputy Prime Minister. Last election, 2023, there were 17 political parties to choose from.

Some people who are fat like me would like to be able to be more responsible and only buy clothes in thrift-stores, but unfortunately if we want to have nice and pretty clothes our sizes we have no other choice but to keep shopping in larger stores or apps like Shein.

Well, if you want to continue to live on it, you should probably pay attention to not only recycling, but the people responsible for most of the pollution. When we were experiencing Covid, they showed pictures of a city in India during regular times and a picture of Covid times. You couldn't see anything for the grey skies in the regular picture, but the same shot during Covid, when everyone was on lock-down, was beautiful. You could see the Himalayas, the sky was blue, and the air was clear of smog. That should be our goal for the whole world.

I've lived in the bible belt in the US almost all my life, and I have never been approached by someone trying to convert me. This problem might be outsized in your mind. YMMV, of course.

Well under any Pagan video there are Christians trying to "spread the gospel" but you never see Pagans commenting under Christians videos. Christians are pretty much the only religion that's actively harassing people into joining them but they act as if they were untouchable and play victims every time someone point it to them.

Nah, all organized religions are cults used to control and manipulate people. You can talk about your faith but the second you use it for hate or try to convert me I'm done.

That's probably because Christianity was shoved down people's throats and whole ways of life were destroyed and/or changed based on an outsider's need to prove their jGod was better than the natives beliefs. Of course Christianaity wasn't the only religion to do this, but it's woke to say other religions did this too.

I notice this too. Not always praised, but it's more common for Christianity to get critiqued for stuff that, even I admit only made sense a thousand years ago (some of it, anyway)

Anyone who says that is confusing religion and colour. We can be mean to Christians because we think they're all white (very much not so) but we mustn't be rude about Islam because it makes us look racist. Just judge them all the same way "without fear or favour".
