In many situations, being woke can be a great thing. You should definitely call out your uncle for making the same offensive jokes that he could barely get away with thirty years ago. And it’s a good idea to gently explain to your grandmother that she misgendered your partner, even if it’s hard for her to grasp the nuances of gender identity.
But we all know that it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, and apparently, that includes being woke. Leftists on TikTok have recently been sharing the most extreme progressive takes they’ve ever heard, so we’ve gathered the wildest ones down below. We are certainly all for diversity, inclusion and equity, but maybe we don’t need to overthink every single thing we say and do for fear of being canceled. Enjoy scrolling through this list, and be sure to upvote the responses that you agree were a bit too woke!

Wanting a healthy child is ableist. God forbid I don't want them to struggle
I recently heard that reading to and with your young children is controversial, because some people don't do it and are "made" to feel bad about it by seeing actual, caring parents??? What a time to be alive...
Some people need to learn what the word "Ableist" actually means...
People excusing every single bad behavior as a "trauma response"
This bugs the absolute sh*t out of me... No apologies for the swearing. The sheer amount of violent stuff and literally dying things that have happened to me? I've been diagnosed with PTSD, depression etc etc etc... Okay, you had a bad thing happen, that's fair but not if you start comparing it to having your heart restarted and dying twice in the ambulance
got called ableist because i said constantly being late to everything was disrespectful to other people
You're not ablest, you're just pi**ed off because they're holding up the event.
"Ableist - tending to regard people with a disability as incomplete, diminished, or damaged, and to measure the quality of life with a disability against a nondisabled standard: ableist assumptions." - Thesaurus.
It's MY time you are wasting. Once you point that out, or go inside without them, they rethink how cutesy it is "I'm just that way"
They are incapable of taking responsibility for their own actions and have no awareness of consequences. God help them when they can't avoid them! But it gives me a laugh!
I make it a point to be always on time and therefore a big chunk of my time is spent alone.
This wasn't about people with disabilities. Your response, however, fits this post perfectly. Too woke.

"Abolish The Police" like they got problems sure.... but we still need police
Defund…not abolish. Police do NOT need a*****t weapons, or literal tanks. They are civilians, not soldiers. What they need is training.
Yes, but in civilised nations police do not have a*s@ult weapons or tanks.
Load More Replies...So, most advocate for defunding the police, not abolishing it. Police have had the same job description creep that teachers and nurses have experienced, only, without the training and ability to handle it. Those other professions have critical thinking skills and piles of background knowledge they can pull from (and our jobs should be lessened in scope, too!) but police are basically highschoolers with guns - you think they can tackle the complexities of counseling someone through s******l thoughts or dealing with the social and personal issues that lead to homelessness? When you can deploy two social workers for the same money as one officer - people who are higher-skilled and more effective at addressing social problems - why wouldn't you be smart about spending the money? Hell, if you consider the police cruiser that officer would drive in, you could get another two people for the same price! Do they really need MRAPs to enforce speeding? Or M16s for crowd control?
Or maybe just make it harder to join the police? It is scary how little training policemen get in the US.
Load More Replies...Abolish Ice, not police. Instead of buying police tanks and military weapons we need to use that money to train them better in de-escalation, sensitivity, and cultural outreach. Also make sure they have mandatory psych evaluations every 6 months and before starting the job. Too many people become cops because they like the control and violence, those are not the people who should be protecting and serving.
If you give a standard psychiatric instrument to both police and criminals you can't tell them apart by their answers.
Load More Replies...Well yeah, the cops kinda have a monopoly on the cop market. Who else are we going to call? Are you really this much of a simpleton?
Load More Replies...The people who are most likely to be against the police? Are usually the ones who have done something... Not always but more than likely to have. The police I've had experience with? It got to the point where I had them over a lot. "Hey come in, make yourself a cuppa tea and I'll be with you once I've pooped myself in the loo!"... Tbh? The police can only go from what you tell them. Always be honest and open. So much was happening and so many calls with my ex...
And if someone is injured or killed by the cops? Is it because they somehow deserved to be and the cops could never do that to an innocent person?

That telling people to not drink alcohol while pregnant was ableist bc you should love your child regardless if they’re disabled. That’s true but you shouldn’t put your child at risk for a completely preventable disability
It's an excuse not to make any 'sacrifices' during a pregnancy. Also, alcohol is a poison, forcing it onto another human without their permission is child a***e!
Ableist describes attitudes, behaviours, and systemic structures that discriminate against disabled people based on the belief that non-disabled people are superior or more capable. It involves negative stereotypes, social prejudice, and unfair treatment, often stemming from the assumption that disability is inherently less valuable or a condition that needs "fixing".
Okay but technically that is also ableist, because now you’re discriminating against perfectly healthy people.
I had a professor who took it upon herself to give unsolicited advice to pregnant women. Unless you are the pregnant woman's doctor, you shouldn't be giving her medical advice.
A girl yelled at me for “shaming teen moms” because I said it was weird that someone I knew was PLANNING to have their SECOND kid at 17
my mom was 15 when she got pregnant in 1976 . worst choice she ever made was having `a kid so early .
It's what's in their heads that is the issue. They clearly feel it's shameful to be a second-time mother at 17 and they project that on to you. They are the ones with sick minds.
I got called a colonizer for being Jewish. (No member of my family has ever lived in Israel, and I've never travelled there.) By a white girl. In CANADA. She looked so proud of herself. Babe, the call is coming from inside the house.
Well, I'm a coloniser, because I'm British. So it was all me, apparently. Except my mother was Austrian. My families effectively fought on opposite sides in two world wars. I've no idea what i represent, but my excuse is that I wasn't there!
I am not even Israeli or Jewish, and I get called all kinds of names for allegedly being both. My husband is from Israel and formerly Jewish. He has no interest in that country apart from his family there, he doesn't even want their citizenship. We live in my country now. He gets s**t from a lot of people. I am scared for when our kid goes to school.
Wow. And I thought Christians got a lot of hate. (I mean, they're sort of the same up until a certain event happened in history)
I've been criticised for being racist because I truly believe you cannot compare modern moralities with old ones. I am mixed race.
The "coIonizer" label could come from anyone. However, I can see the irony of a white person in Canada saying it.

that aborting a fetus who has a fatal birth defect and therefore will only live a few hours in absolute agony is eugenics and ableist. i’m not talking about things like down syndrome, but conditions like anencephaly.
Yah because being born to only have your lungs collapse with your first breath awhile putting your mother's life at risk is better than a abortion/s
Why not talk about down syndrome? Because those are "sun children"? Because there are some portraied in the media that are quite autonome living? These are the best cases, Most are in a quite more "basic" level. There are enough things that you don't know that can happen with your child, do you really want to know beforehand that it will be dependant on others for it's whole life? If yes: okay, you do you, but let others decided for themselves!
Eugenics? Were you expecting the few hour old infant to have a child before they die?

"we shouldn't have prisons" is a bit too woke for me
Is it "prisons", or is it "American for profit prisons"? There's a difference.
Depends on the type of prison…are you trying to reform the prisoner, or merely punish them?
There's the odd case where reform is not possible. Then people are locked up for others' safety.

If you are starving, the punishment of having your hand chopped off will not stop you from stealing. And there are a thousand other worlds in between. The best way to curb crime is to avoid creating incentives for it, to offer help in emergencies and to make society fair. Even then, sanctions will be necessary. But punishment alone will not get crime under control. Neither will the absence of punishment. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

My doctor does the same. I mean I've just told you I've got a weird mole on my chest, that's what I'm here for... But if course the real reason is because of decades of doctors saying "ok remove your top I'm just going to check out your breasts while we're here" when you're there for a verruca.
Load More Replies...I have sensory issues and I hate people touching my head. Sometimes I have to go to the hairdresser and of course I know why I’m there but I really appreciate asking. It’s less “can I touch your hair” and more “can we start?/can I touch your hair NOW?”. Think about it that way: if you have a tick, of course you want it out and you appreciate a person helping you with it but it’s still unpleasant and you would probably expect “ready?” before the pulling.
If you have a tick, they really should touch your hair quickly to remove it. Better than getting Lyme Disease.

That shaving is automatically male centric and can't be entirely for personal reasons
This! I can't understand how shaving my armpits could possibly be about men. Or in my case about looking good. If I don't shave the smell of swetting is worse and if I do my deodorant works better. That's it, just a hygiene thing.
To be fair when I do it, I feel like it is automatically about men because I am men and the choice is for me. Actually, it creates a horrible paradox where it both is and isn't for men. However, I feel like not wanting to be hairy is a perfectly valid want regardless of s*x or what the other s*x wants.

maybe this isn’t woke at all but any terms like “birthing person, chestfeeding, or pregnant person” always seemed kinda odd to me ??
This is what got JK Rowling started - her view being that it's erasing the validity of being a woman.
Some ladies I met were offended to be called "mothers", they were "parent", they told me that the words "mother" or "father " are sexist.... I had no words.
It sounds like the word they were looking for is gendered. It's fine to prefer non gendered stuff but that doesn't automatically mean sexist.
Load More Replies...It is. I can't believe it's controversial nowadays, but here we go: only girls and women can get pregnant, give birth, and breastfeed.
Being a little pedantic here, but men have breasts as well as under developed mammary glands.
Load More Replies...It may seem odd until you meet a pregnant man then the old cogs in the brain start turning.
Absolutely agreed. There's currently a case before the Irish courts whereby a "woman," had his s***m frozen, and claims not being listed as the child's mother is against his human rights (under Irish law he can be listed as the father unsurprisingly). The child is not Irish' the mother is not Irish and the father only holds an Irish passport through Irish ancestry...
So, I get chest feeding because breaststroke are an anatomical part of your body, however birthing person is someone who is the room with you when you give birth that isn't a medical professional in most cases and pregnant person is used to refer to people who were assigned female at birth who are pregnant but are maybe intersex or nonbinary. I swear we arent trying to erase the validity of women, just find a label that suits other people. If someone I know is pregnant and identifies as a woman then they are still a pregnant woman in my mind.
Im pregnant, expecting a girl, told a lady that I was expecting a girl and she called me ignorant for just assuming she’s going to want to be adressed as a girl..
Statistically correct? But I guess the kid will tell you if you are a good parent.
I once made the test for myself on a playground, where you can't see the gender of the three -year -olds: when I imagined them being girls I perceived their actions differently than when I saw them as boys. And I'm afraid my Interactions are influenced by that. It's eye-opening and I'd recommend it, though it's best doing it when you're there with kids yourself, I reckon.
There are some real nutters in the world. I find the best way to deal with them is to laugh and then ignore them.
Well, they are going to be too busy with being born and screaming to properly address everyone in the room and claiming their preferred gender and title.
You know, you can just say "them" instead of she/he/it.

Not having s*x is free. We shouldn't shame people for being poir, but having s*x w/o protection is reckless and justifies feedback.

Raising the age of consent to 25. It will NOT deter creeps, 25 would just become the new “barely legal” and it would open the doors for people in their 20’s to get with teenagers. Not to mention you’d extend the time that people are trapped in abusive situations, especially for child marriage victims considering you have to be a legal adult to obtain a divorce and domestic violence shelters can’t house minors. The list of faults go on and on.
It's one of those things that there just can't ever be a perfect age restriction for and we just have to go with whatever we believe minimises harm the most. It's 16 where I am, too, and I think 18 is a bit weird as well. Some people are going to be emotionally mature enough at that age, some people aren't. Just to be clear I'm not saying "we can't get this exactly right so we shouldn't bother", but "we can't get this exactly right so we'll take the best approximation".

Yes, but it has become something completely different.
Load More Replies...Someone is going to have to provide links or explain what is meant by ‘actively encouraging obesity’ as I have no idea to what they could be referring.
I believe this is likely in response to people being overly accommodating to people with obesity, and probably not literally encouraging it. No one is encouraging obesity by just letting people exist. Saying "You look cute!" To a fat person isn't encouraging obesity, it's telling them that they look cute. Fat people aren't going around telling people to gain weight. The whole encouraging obesity thing is just an excuse a******s use to be cruel and get mad when people are kind instead of cruel.
No one is encouraging obesity you moldy carrot. They're saying you shouldn't be a jerk to someone just because they're fat. No one is saying "Hey guys, go eat lard so you can be fat like me!" They're saying "Hey guys, could you please just stop talking about my body because you're not my doctor."

I got called racist for saying that kaomojis aren't cultural appropriation
Well then, no more knäckebröd for me, darnit.
Load More Replies...Almost everything labelled cultural appropriation isn't. You appropriate something when you make it unusable by members of the originating culture because you have destroyed/trivialised the great cultural significance it had for them and replaced it in popular consciousness with 'trendy thing'. Borrowing things you like from other cultures doesn't, inherently, appropriate them. So wearing a pair of moccasins because they are comfortable doesn't appropriate Native American culture, wearing a war bonnet and facepaint to make an idiot of yourself supporting your football team does.
Generally the problem is over generalization and extrapolation. See corn row hair styles. They are frequently disparaged or seen as trashy. Someone who's black is effectively being restricted, or at least looked down on, for having them. They then see a white person with corn rows and label it as cultural appropriation, but the accusation fails on multiple levels. A) That white person probably doesn't view them as trashy, or they wouldn't be sporting them B) That white person would also be subject to the same disparagement in many cases, often with added disparagement for seeming like something of a sellout to their race. A lot of the people using the term appropriation are lloking for something like cultural isolation, which honestly is a terrible route, and saying that it's about one race suppressing another is in-and-of-itself, racist. You are making the assumption that someone's motivation for wanting the corn rows is racist based solely on their race, which is an inferior trait.
Load More Replies...Where I live, the term 'cultural appropriation' is just a tool for self-centered whities to silence others. I get that you are supposed to treat other cultures with respect. I'm not convinced though, that showing interest even in an awkward, foolish or cringy way, is always disrespect. Herman Melvilles books do have pretty awful parts. Yet it was a step away from the racist views of his time, and his Quiqeg taught me interest in other worlds as a child, as did even Karl May.
What utter nonsense. If that were true, as Halloween is really a Celtic pagan festival, everyone who isn't a Celtic pagan but dresses up on Halloween would be guilty of cultural appropriation.

That homeless people that can barely feed themselves shouldnt be having children was eugenics
I hate the disgusting old idea that poverty is somehow a genetic trait ("bad breeding"). Saying someone should not have children because they will not be able to raise them in a safe healthy environment, while not very nice, at least shows concern for the child and is miles away from saying that same person should not have children because they are racially inferior (which is evident by their poverty).

People need to learn to keep their opinions to themselves. There's no need to open your mouth to say something disrespecful. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", was a phrase I was raised with.

ppl who claim that cheating is the same as SA
There is an argument that, by having s*x with someone who thinks you're single, and who wouldn't have done so if they had known your true status, you are having s*x with someone who didn't give informed consent. I agree with that argument.
Séxual activity requires the informed consent of all involved parties. This includes spouses and partners. If you are having sèx outside of your established relationship then it is only consensual if everyone involved has given the all clear.
you are giving the "all clear" for the act of s*x itself , everything else is your own emotional baggage . we live in the age of tinder . trying to tie SA into it is just broken
Load More Replies...as long as is consense , it can't be a*****t. we are adults, society games are just that. it's surely a bridge of trust , but far from a*****t... just use protection when havin s#x with people you don't know well or that well ... life gets easier when you accept some of your decisions were made on wrong assumptions and accept some of the blame too .. but it's far from assaault when victims are in violent or d**g induced s#xual intercourse ...
But there is a danger in saying cheating is sexual a*****t. A*****t is an attack either physically, verbally or mentally. Cheating is deception. They are not the same. This is where definition matters. If you define both the same, they will be treated the same, and eventually they will be punished the same. We do not live in a world of nuance. We live in a very real world where adultery is punishable by death in some cultures. And if you haven't been paying attention, we are in danger of being one of those cultures. No matter what, we don't want to give power hungry governments the license to k**l us for sleeping around.
Let’s just all agree: cheating is bad. Even if your partner sucks, I’d suggest finding another way to deal with your pain, including leaving if you are able. Cheating rips your soul into pieces for people that are never worth the trouble. Once that fantasy bubble pops…it’s all over.
"You don't owe people anything!" Yes, you do if you want to keep your friendships and relationships
I'm ambivalent about this one. Loyalty is earned, It's a two-way street. I owe nobody anything, but I will give anything I can, make any sacrifice, move mountains for those I love. And I have done so.
After having my neighbour repeatedly threaten me with a police visit... A Welfare Check... I'd been ignoring her for a few very good reasons. I don't owe her anything. She has made every single d**n thing about her even though she wasn't involved, had nothing to do with anything... I'm the one going through it so stop with the threats. I've completely cut her off.
Maybe the word "automatically" should be inserted here "you don't automatically owe people anything" - but if someone, anyone, is doing something for you, even if it's just serving you a drink, then, yes, you owe them something, even if it's just a nice "thank you".
You are part of a society without which you wouldn't survive. You d**n well do have an obligation to other people.

Being anti AI is ableist because it “makes art accessible”
Many, many artists make art despite chronic pain or disabilities. AI "art" steals from these artists. "I don't know how to draw" then learn. I am not a natural artist. I never have been and I never will be. I've been drawing since I was twelve. I'm 19 now. I'm bad at art still, but I continue to learn and grow as an artist.
Just wait for a few years and being anti AI will be seen as a positive attribute.
Growing up, we always had a charity wall calendar in the house, featuring art painted by people who had to use their feet or mouths to paint. The pictures were beautiful. It never occurred to me that people with physical restrictions could not access or create art. Amazing what a little wall calendar can do in changing people's perception. It's actually ableist to think people can only interact with art if they have AI.
Artificial Idiocy isn't required there's plenty of Natural Idiocy about.

Asking a newborn / informing them you will he changing their diapers/nappies is just being, polite and the parents/guardians/caregivers hitting used to getting consent. It gradually introduces the concept of consent at an early age in a gradual, and hopefully healthy way. Just don't expect a coherent answer, it's really just a polite question, that's gets the person used to talking, communicating and asking/ questioning the child, which will hopefully continue and develop as the child gets older. That adoption was unethical and exploitative because the parents have a “savior complex” and that we shouldn’t expect having access to children to be a “universal right” based on a family’s socioeconomic status. Meaning why are we assessing their economic worthiness when determining if they could adopt. After that conversation I had to plug out, go outside, feel the sun, breathe fresh air and touch grass.
Adoption can be unethical and exploitative, but mostly it's because folks just want kids. It's why most of us are here...
Someone that got rejected, or only valued fetuses but not actual children?
There should be a criteria set for adoption, but it shouldn't be all about the financial status, but the whole package. My folks weren't rich, but loved me and my sister (different parents), and in my opinion did a great job of raising us.
If you haven't been through it? I suggest you keep your opinion to yourself 👍
Re the socio-economic status part, yes and no. If someone cannot afford to raise a child and the state is unwilling to subsidise them (which would be cheaper than keeping the child in care anyway) then I can see why there's a threshold. However deciding between two sets of prospective parents on the basis of who has more money when they both have enough doesn't sound right.
"a “universal right” based on a family’s socioeconomic status" is an oxymoron. Either it's a universal right, in which case it's a right for everybody, OR it's based on socio-economic status, in which case it isn't a universal right. EDIT: OK, downvoter, tell me exactly what was wrong in my statement.

I think the last 60 years have proven beyond any doubt that voting at a national level is a scam designed to keep us believing that we have any control. It's like handing your baby brother a controlled without any batteries in it so he can pretend he's playing. No matter how we vote, the rich get richer, the levels of government control get tighter, the planet gets hotter, and the levels of pollution rise and rise.
Not American, but I would have had to hold my nose tightly to vote for her because, as a DA, she refused to prosecute cops who butchered young black men, then when it became an issue in the Biden election, she issued a 'apology' and thought that made it OK. “i’m a trans man who’s a lesbian” i fear i’m not woke enough..
This isn't "woke," this is misunderstanding that gender expression and sexual attraction/orientation are separate concepts. I am genetically a man (s*x) who presents as a man (sexual expression) and likes women (sexual orientation). My clothes don't determine who I'm attracted to. If you're still lost , it's like plotting on an X, Y, and Z axis! So it's entirely possible for someone to have been born a man, choose to present outwardly as a woman, and still be into dudes - that's not gay that's a trans woman into men.

Agender and nonbinary people do and can identify as lesbian- though usually defined as "women loving women", many have come to define it as "non-men loving non-men".

Anytime someone mentions Christianity people say “DoNt sHoVe YoUr ReLiGioN On mE” but when people mention any other religion it’s praised
I have only ever had people try to convert me to Christianity or try to involve me in the Church. No other religion has ever done that. So, yes, keep your Christianity to yourself, thank you.
Find me another religion that is actively and loudly trying to convert me and I'll call that one a cult too.
Well under any Pagan video there are Christians trying to "spread the gospel" but you never see Pagans commenting under Christians videos. Christians are pretty much the only religion that's actively harassing people into joining them but they act as if they were untouchable and play victims every time someone point it to them.
That's probably because Christianity was shoved down people's throats and whole ways of life were destroyed and/or changed based on an outsider's need to prove their jGod was better than the natives beliefs. Of course Christianaity wasn't the only religion to do this, but it's woke to say other religions did this too.
I notice this too. Not always praised, but it's more common for Christianity to get critiqued for stuff that, even I admit only made sense a thousand years ago (some of it, anyway)
