30 Hilariously Spot-On Reactions To Blue Origin’s Galactic PR Stunt With Katy Perry Gone Weird
“You don't have to feel like a waste of space. You're original, cannot be replaced,” sang Katy Perry back in 2010. Little did she know back then that 15 years later, she would be chanting “One, two, three: Take up space!” while being in space herself.
Earlier this week, the singer of the hit ‘Firework’ became one of the six women to go on a suborbital space tourism mission on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. The first all-female space crew in more than 60 years comprised Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Kerianne Flynn, Aisha Bowe, and Amanda Nguyen and reportedly spend just over 10 minutes on the mission, reaching an apogee of 346,802 ft above ground level / 350,449 ft above mean sea level (106 km AGL / 107 km MSL).
Upon successful completion, the women were thrilled, but their emotions, both before and after the mission, as well as the quest itself were met with different reactions from the general public. Many people took to the internet to share what they thought about Blue Origin’s mission, and they didn’t hold back their opinions much. Scroll down to find some of their thoughts on the list below.

After successfully landing back on Earth, Perry shared in an interview that she felt “super connected to love”

The mission created quite a buzz online, with many people criticizing the stunt

Thank you! Let's stop glorifying the collaborators and start taking care of the people who are being hurt by this administration.
I don't like this look at me vanity c**p, but let's be clear this had nothing to do with NASA.
Let's inspire women by doing something that a man first did 64 years ago, except that Yuri Gagarin actually orbited Earth once before returning safely. Yay, progress.
So true! If you need to spend all that money to feel love, then you are sadly out of touch with reality.
Do you really think she had to pay ANYTHING?? I'm betting that this was a free ride in exchange for the publicity. I highly doubt Gayle King had the $$, either. They probably tried to get Oprah to do it, and failed. Cynical... but realistic.
It is the cost of the flight. That she didn't pay anything doesn't change what the flight costs.
Load More Replies...Instead it paid the wages of the engineers, scientists, laborors, electricians, welders, plumbers, rocket fuel workers, tool and die makers, machine experts, etc.
Honourable mention to merry-go-round operators, rollercoaster paybooth attendants, and go-kart service engineers. because that's all this was, a joyride.
Load More Replies...I was thinking the same thing that "They were not crew." All they did was just take a ride and scream like little girls when they reached weightlessness.
Oh, and you know who were crew? Sally Ride. Christa McAuliffe. Valentina Tereshkova. Svetlana Savitskaya
I'd love to be able to do this, but, I'm not rich like them, or dating the owner. But, I would never think I was crew. I'd rather be a passenger so I could enjoy the view.
Did they call themselves crew or was that a label put on them by others?
Load More Replies...1000% agree. Calling these women "crew" is an insult to all the real astronauts who train for years to be able to complete meaningful space missions!
Mr. Bezos businesses pay hundreds of millions in wages, health insurance, workmans comp insurance, utility and energy taxes and property taxes each and every month. All the while the US postal services loses tens of millions each month. Support DOGE's efforts to make our government profitabile like Mr. Bezoes businesses are.
Government isn't a for-profit business. It should not be run like a business. Nor are we the government's customers. The government is a functioning bureaucratic organization responsible for the maintenance and wellbeing of the society it governs.
Load More Replies...These "Charlie's Angels" demeaned the hard work and incredible ability of all REAL women astronauts. Sickening.
AND wearing a giant-a*s blood diamond ring and a face full of makeup. Obviously, there are no standards for being an "astronaut" anymore. Ten minutes makes her an expert on space travel. smh.
Yep, Jeff Bezos sure is a limousine liberal. Ridiculous
Load More Replies...And those women actually worked hard to acquire the skills they needed. They didn't sing moronic pop songs or blabber all over TV or get giant knockers for their billionaire boyfriends.
Real women astronauts are scientists of great ability. This demeans all of them.
Agree, it was nothing more than a publicity stunt our weak press fell for as news.
And apparently, space travel made them even more empty-headed and clueless.
Bear in mind that their little jaunt wasn't for our benefit -- we can't afford that kind of money. But some jealous influencers, particularly the rich ones, can. Don't you think they're lining up at the ticket office?
I sure hope that comment is intended as sarcasm ! Around here it is hard to tell.
Her album will tank regardless where she promotes it from.
Load More Replies...Can we deport that group of money wasting self appointed botox queens ?
2 dollars for a tiny square of paper with a colorless orderless tasteless liquid soaked into it has made me super connected to love for 8 hours a few times. I was probably less out of touch with reality on acid than these weird puppets on a flaming space tube.
These type of comments are helping to restore my faith in the people on this website.
"Upon her successful return to Earth, Katy Perry immediately converted to Islam."
Why do they refer to them as 'crew' I thought they were just passengers with more money than sense
Nope -- Oprah refused to go. So Gayle was the logical replacement. Sadly.
How much money did you waste and carbon did you dump into the atmosphere for the "benefit of Earth" exactly?
It's about vacuous irrelevant cash dumping into the pockets of the s**t people destroying the health of a nation/ world via predatory capitalism and feckless rich people babble ensuring my kids have a terrible future.
The ironic thing is you can't read it. No amount of csi fake magic "enhance" can read that, many people called out that these vapid gals spent most of their time mugging for the camera instead of enjoy the majesty of almost space. Again all of it was just stupid. If it failed and they died, we truly wouldn't have lost anything that day.
THAT'S what you want to do at the Karman Line??? What a wasted opportunity.
Couldn't Gayle have pushed ol' Katy out the airlock just for that horror alone?
I wouldn’t do this myself. I don’t want to get blown up in a crappy piece of equipment that was probably made by people working too many hours for low pay (to maximize profits.)
They were passengers, not crew. As far as I know, NASA redefined the word and doesn't call them astronauts because they did nothing.
Load More Replies...Up and down, whoopee-doo. In 1961 Yuri Gagarin, USSR and the first man in space, orbited the earth. So did Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, also USSR, in 1963, 48 times. She was not a passenger.
I'm glad you added this, it was quite lazy for BP to repost these photos, label them as "cringe" and to not add any context whatsoever. The first actual female astronaut deserves to be a household name and they didn't even mention her.
Load More Replies...I don’t blame them for doing this. I blame them for publicizing it. Tone deaf to what’s happening in the country.
Tone deaf to what's happening *in* and *to* the whole world.
Load More Replies...Jeez Bezos tripping and eating sand has probably made this worth it
Seeing this, I am hopeful that these women will appreciate the sacrifice astronauts make as researchers whenever they go into space. Many people don’t know the astronauts have often gone to space to conduct studies on the human body, including how to cure cancer.
