50 People Who Took Woodworking To Another Level And Shared The Results In This Online Group (New Pics)
My grandfather built his house not far away from his mother's log home. When she died, he converted hers into a wood workshop. I remember going there as a child; the place seemed like another world to me. Inside, there were stacks and stacks of tools, some big, some small, and you could always smell warm and earthy scents. A birch chair in one corner, an almost finished oak table in the other. It was so peaceful.
It had been a while since I immersed myself into these memories, but as soon as I saw the subreddit r/WoodWorking, they all came rushing back to me.
This online community is dedicated to "furniture, toys, tools, wood, glue, and anything else that has to do with woodworking as a hobby or profession," and I have to say, its members are really, really skilled. Not as much as my grandad, of course, but almost. Continue scrolling to check out their best projects and fire up Bored Panda's earlier posts on the subreddit here and here.

Dare I Say... The "Neverending Fence" Is Complete!
I desperately want this fence! It is so beautiful and after a while the insects and birds will love it too. Oh and hedgehogs too.
I am trying to figure out how you created this. Is it vine or branches? How are they perfectly matched and how long did it take to create it. It is so beautifully unique.
Its willow saplings and through select harvesting. This one took about 700 hours. Thank you
Load More Replies...This is fantastic, literally. I want this for my property. We are building, eventually, a new barn. When it is built I want the old stall moved to the back of the property to be wildlife "housing" for birds, rabbits, possums, coyotes, etc. It has one big stall, a hay storage area [elevated from the ground] and a "feed room." I will put hay bales in and assorted "housing" etc. And this "fence would be perfect to add extra living areas. This is great.
Best thing? It'll take root and will indeed be "neverending". It'll grow and grow and be green and full of life! fantastic work, the patience! But it really paid off
I saw this on a Home Shaming group in FB. I didn't think it was a 'shame'...
Reddit user u/magicalstickbending is one of the people whose ability you can see in the list. But for this article, let's refer to him by his real name, Justin Roberts. He created the 'Neverending Fence.'
We managed to contact Justin and he was kind enough to have a little chat with us. "Woodworking is a way of life for me," the man told Bored Panda. "10 years ago, I had the idea of making my oldest child's Easter basket. After Easter, we would plant the basket and turn it back into a tree. With willow it's a renewable plant and one can just stick it in the ground and it will grow, you can also harvest the same plant for up to 28 years. This is what appealed to me the most, living as close to the earth and its rhythm as possible. I have been working with green wood 7 to 5 days a week for 10 years now."
Longship Cradle I Made For My First Grandchild Is Complete

Owner Wanted To Cut Down The Tree For The Deck, But I Talked Him Into Building A Bench Around It Instead. I Think It Turned Out Nice And Saved The Tree
That was a great idea, and look at the shade that the tree provides. Thank you for sparing this one.
Thank you for saving the tree. I NEVER understand when people cut down trees. When we remodeled it really, really hurt to cut down a Chinese Pistachio tree and a big mesquite. The Chinese Pistachio was in bad shape due to web worms and, though we tried, the tree was dying. The Mesquite was there when we bought the house, but it began to split down the middle and was eventually going to die. So, we removed it and I still miss it.
I feel your pain. I had to chop down an ancient oak that even had a tree protection order on it but it was dead and rotting. Branches were falling off it in sections and it was starting to be dangerous. I miss my tree as well - it feels like the heart of my garden has gone.
Load More Replies...Glad you were able to talk to the owner and saved a tree. Good place to sit and relax as well.
Reflections Of Perspective 150x90cm Complete. An Artdeco Inspired Piece
The 'Neverending Fence' was actually a commission with permission to play. So Justin did. "We made a metal frame for the arch and reused the previous fencepost, wrapping them with 14-gauge wire," the woodworker said. "Then it was harvesting willow saplings by the roadside and weaving them one at a time. It took about 700 hours or so from start to finish."
"This subreddit is an amazing place to talk everything woodworking. I did not know about Reddit until someone stole photos of my work and tried to say they made it. I woke up one morning with messages in my inbox on another platform saying 'Dude, you are on the front page of Reddit!' so I made an account to reclaim my work."

Got My First Display In A Local Store!
Due To The High Cost Of Wood, I Decided To Make A Play House Entirely Out Of Free Pallets And Free Roofing
This is amazing! and I know how difficult it is to break pallets down; they are tough!
The key is to have a lever action tool to pop the boards up without splitting them or pulling the nails through. I have a "deck wrecker" I use for the purpose, but something identical but on a smaller scale would be better.
Load More Replies...I used Pallet Tops to make a 40*55ft picket fence fence-6143...17-png.jpg
We used pallets to cover a floor, 2 walls and to build a wall around our fridge to incorporate it into our small kitchen space. Hubby worked HARD to separate the boards until we discovered a pallet tool. It cut the effort in half.
Behind large stores that receive large orders, especially Lumber Stores.
Load More Replies...this is brutal, and the fact that you included real plants is amazing.
Carved A Rope And Knot From Basswood
It's Far From Perfect And Not Finished Yet, But I'm Really Trying To Make My Parents' Porch Look Better
just cleaning all of the crap off of it would have been a big improvement, That is a rebuild.
Your doing great. Hope it's safer too. Also might consider a ramp as they are getting older. Just a thought.
For an earlier article on r/WoodWorking, Bored Panda also reached out to one of its moderators, Joseph, and he told us that the subreddit was founded in 2008 as a place for Redditors to exchange ideas, techniques, advice, and projects.
Now, it has grown into a 3.2-million-member community and is visited about 250,000 times per day.
There's one key rule that makes this subreddit unique and it's that people are only allowed to share things they have created themselves. "This keeps our content original and organic," Joseph explained. So every incredible piece you see in this list was put together by a member of the sub.
However, the moderator team reminded us that woodworking, no matter how cool it may be, is not just fun and games and one must never forget to keep themself safe. See this post as “a reminder for the shop that accidents happen.”

I Carved A Tiny Maple Owl
Me, too, got about 15, not a huge amount, but I love them :)
Load More Replies...Whether you are learning a new language or how to drive a car, increasing your skill set is valuable on a multitude of levels. Woodworking is no exception. It can benefit both the creator and those around them, so if you're looking for a new hobby, why not give it a go? Maybe you'll end up loving it.
It's something that can be applied however you see fit. Woodworking can be a source of relaxation and even revenue if you get good at it. Many people love custom, high-quality furniture, appliances, and artwork, so don't worry about not having a market for your creations.
Also, by building wooden objects from scratch, you'll begin to understand how things are made. This knowledge can save you money on home repairs, which can be quite expensive. Instead of paying someone else, you'll be able to take pride in looking after your household!

Just Finished This Jewelry Box For My Grandma. Made Mainly Of Oak From The Stairs Of Her Old House
So beautiful !!! I love jewelry boxes!! Jewelry boxes are amazing family history pieces to pass down in my opinion. I have 3 girls..give them old Jewelry boxes from their Grandmom ( my mom that she gave to me )..when i passed the boxes my mom gave to me I said when I smell these boxes I smell my mom her perfume..it reminded me of times when she was going out dressed up for a dinner watching her doing her hair makeup..funny enough my girls said the same but they smell my perfume in the box remembering me getting ready for a night out. Me letting them play with my jewelry trying lip stick makeup powders . Trying on pufumes!! So save your jewelry boxes to pass down to your family members ..they may be some powerful happy memories with them!!

I Don't Do Many Out Door Showers As A Cabinet Maker, But When One Of Your Good Customers Says Cost Is No Issue, I Try My Best
Money can keep costs down by making the use of tools required and using the best materials in wood or whatever. The time and finished product is less than time to make stuff work, finding matching screws, banged up thumbs and then having to replace the whole distroua mess when it falls apart and busts your miter saw or the neighbors foot.

My Dad And I Built This Stuff Years Ago. I’m Housesitting Now For My Parents While My Dad Awaits A New Liver, So Naturally I’m Sitting On The Floor, In Tears, Photographing Everything More Chairs To Make, Dad
My most treasured items as an old man are the pieces of furniture that he made and signed. Some were from before my time, but other pieces I can remember Dad letting me hand sand some obscure part when I was just a child.
Beautiful chair. Look like something I can rock myself to sleep right away. I hope the Dad gets the new liver soon and wishing him on a successful surgery and recovery.

Starred Making Pipes To Sell, This Is My First Batch, I Use Scrap Wood Mostly And Some Skateboards
These are beautiful but as pipes, they are not going to work "as well". You put tobacco into the bowl and as the tobacco burns it leaves a "cake" that is the ash, tar and assorted materials left behind as the tobacco "burns." You want a wood that will not catch fire from smoldering tobacco. That is why the "best" pipes are old pipes that have been "broken in." You also want a "sweet" or "harmonious" wood that will contribute to the aroma and taste. But, these are beautiful and very clever.
