My grandfather built his house not far away from his mother's log home. When she died, he converted hers into a wood workshop. I remember going there as a child; the place seemed like another world to me. Inside, there were stacks and stacks of tools, some big, some small, and you could always smell warm and earthy scents. A birch chair in one corner, an almost finished oak table in the other. It was so peaceful.

It had been a while since I immersed myself into these memories, but as soon as I saw the subreddit r/WoodWorking, they all came rushing back to me.

This online community is dedicated to "furniture, toys, tools, wood, glue, and anything else that has to do with woodworking as a hobby or profession," and I have to say, its members are really, really skilled. Not as much as my grandad, of course, but almost. Continue scrolling to check out their best projects and fire up Bored Panda's earlier posts on the subreddit here and here.

This is fantastic, literally. I want this for my property. We are building, eventually, a new barn. When it is built I want the old stall moved to the back of the property to be wildlife "housing" for birds, rabbits, possums, coyotes, etc. It has one big stall, a hay storage area [elevated from the ground] and a "feed room." I will put hay bales in and assorted "housing" etc. And this "fence would be perfect to add extra living areas. This is great.

Reddit user u/magicalstickbending is one of the people whose ability you can see in the list. But for this article, let's refer to him by his real name, Justin Roberts. He created the 'Neverending Fence.'

We managed to contact Justin and he was kind enough to have a little chat with us. "Woodworking is a way of life for me," the man told Bored Panda. "10 years ago, I had the idea of making my oldest child's Easter basket. After Easter, we would plant the basket and turn it back into a tree. With willow it's a renewable plant and one can just stick it in the ground and it will grow, you can also harvest the same plant for up to 28 years. This is what appealed to me the most, living as close to the earth and its rhythm as possible. I have been working with green wood 7 to 5 days a week for 10 years now."

Thank you for saving the tree. I NEVER understand when people cut down trees. When we remodeled it really, really hurt to cut down a Chinese Pistachio tree and a big mesquite. The Chinese Pistachio was in bad shape due to web worms and, though we tried, the tree was dying. The Mesquite was there when we bought the house, but it began to split down the middle and was eventually going to die. So, we removed it and I still miss it.

I feel your pain. I had to chop down an ancient oak that even had a tree protection order on it but it was dead and rotting. Branches were falling off it in sections and it was starting to be dangerous. I miss my tree as well - it feels like the heart of my garden has gone.

The 'Neverending Fence' was actually a commission with permission to play. So Justin did. "We made a metal frame for the arch and reused the previous fencepost, wrapping them with 14-gauge wire," the woodworker said. "Then it was harvesting willow saplings by the roadside and weaving them one at a time. It took about 700 hours or so from start to finish."

"This subreddit is an amazing place to talk everything woodworking. I did not know about Reddit until someone stole photos of my work and tried to say they made it. I woke up one morning with messages in my inbox on another platform saying 'Dude, you are on the front page of Reddit!' so I made an account to reclaim my work."

For more cool pieces similar to the internet-famous fence, check out Justin's website Walk the Willow.

The key is to have a lever action tool to pop the boards up without splitting them or pulling the nails through. I have a "deck wrecker" I use for the purpose, but something identical but on a smaller scale would be better.

For an earlier article on r/WoodWorking, Bored Panda also reached out to one of its moderators, Joseph, and he told us that the subreddit was founded in 2008 as a place for Redditors to exchange ideas, techniques, advice, and projects.

Now, it has grown into a 3.2-million-member community and is visited about 250,000 times per day.

There's one key rule that makes this subreddit unique and it's that people are only allowed to share things they have created themselves. "This keeps our content original and organic," Joseph explained. So every incredible piece you see in this list was put together by a member of the sub.

However, the moderator team reminded us that woodworking, no matter how cool it may be, is not just fun and games and one must never forget to keep themself safe. See this post as “a reminder for the shop that accidents happen.”

Whether you are learning a new language or how to drive a car, increasing your skill set is valuable on a multitude of levels. Woodworking is no exception. It can benefit both the creator and those around them, so if you're looking for a new hobby, why not give it a go? Maybe you'll end up loving it.

It's something that can be applied however you see fit. Woodworking can be a source of relaxation and even revenue if you get good at it. Many people love custom, high-quality furniture, appliances, and artwork, so don't worry about not having a market for your creations.

Also, by building wooden objects from scratch, you'll begin to understand how things are made. This knowledge can save you money on home repairs, which can be quite expensive. Instead of paying someone else, you'll be able to take pride in looking after your household!

So beautiful !!! I love jewelry boxes!! Jewelry boxes are amazing family history pieces to pass down in my opinion. I have 3 girls..give them old Jewelry boxes from their Grandmom ( my mom that she gave to me )..when i passed the boxes my mom gave to me I said when I smell these boxes I smell my mom her perfume..it reminded me of times when she was going out dressed up for a dinner watching her doing her hair makeup..funny enough my girls said the same but they smell my perfume in the box remembering me getting ready for a night out. Me letting them play with my jewelry trying lip stick makeup powders . Trying on pufumes!! So save your jewelry boxes to pass down to your family members ..they may be some powerful happy memories with them!!

Not a TV. They are using a projector. it is hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like they mounted the projection screen in a way where you can easily take it down after the movie to store it someplace safe.

That is not a porch it is an extension on the house without heat, water, or ac. Decide to sell don't call it a porch.

Money can keep costs down by making the use of tools required and using the best materials in wood or whatever. The time and finished product is less than time to make stuff work, finding matching screws, banged up thumbs and then having to replace the whole distroua mess when it falls apart and busts your miter saw or the neighbors foot.

These are beautiful but as pipes, they are not going to work "as well". You put tobacco into the bowl and as the tobacco burns it leaves a "cake" that is the ash, tar and assorted materials left behind as the tobacco "burns." You want a wood that will not catch fire from smoldering tobacco. That is why the "best" pipes are old pipes that have been "broken in." You also want a "sweet" or "harmonious" wood that will contribute to the aroma and taste. But, these are beautiful and very clever.

Build a holder inside to store them at a 60 degree angle. I did EXACTLY the same thing you did, lol.
