50 People Reveal Their Most Unusual Obsessions Turned Into Full-On Collections (New Pics)
Not everyone enjoys collecting stamps and coins, some folks are out here building tiny museums of pure chaos and charm. We’re talking presidential stickers, bird-shaped pins, and dolls. You name it, someone’s probably lovingly collecting it. And the best part? They’re proud of it, and honestly, we kind of are, too. It’s like a peek into someone’s joyful little corner of the universe.
So today, we’ve rounded up some of the most bizarrely delightful collections people have shared online. Whether they’re rooted in sweet nostalgia, fueled by oddly specific obsessions, or just the result of “it started as a joke and now I can’t stop,” these collections prove one thing: passion doesn’t have to be practical to be perfect.

My Collection Of Art Deco Cameras. Mostly Late 1920s To Late 1940s. These Range From “Common” To “Few Known To Exist”
I’m often asked if I shoot with these. No, I do not. To me they are art. Plus - they suck as cameras. That’s why some are so rare. They were cheap, they’re fragile (many are literally cardboard), they sucked then and they suck now. They were highly decorated to draw the eye. Very few of these were used by serious photographers.
I am so jealous! I have about a dozen vintage cameras, some work, some don't. But even the ones that I have tested with film for light leaks and functionality I don't use. I have so many different types of film now...I should revisit some of them.
I Love Containers And One Of The Types Of Containers I Collect Is Vintage Pill Boxes And Compacts. Here's My Collection So Far
To some it's gorgeous to others utter kitsch. Isn't that great 😃
An Important Collection Worthy Of Display At The Museum Of Natural History
I've got an English Bull Terrier. I'd upload a picture if I new how!
Load More Replies...Aww a friend of mine had a standard one called Pearl. Before that she had one called Mrs Treacle. And now she's got Ada Pudding.
Load More Replies...It's probably just me, but I was expecting to see a sleepy gorilla.
A lot of people love collecting oddly specific things. It could be tiny shampoo bottles from hotels, sugar packets from airlines, or even vintage ketchup packets. Some find it calming, while others think it’s a quirky way to capture memories or express curiosity.
Whether it starts with a single item or a whole shelf’s worth, collections often grow into something deeply personal. But here’s the big question: when does collecting cross the line into hoarding?
Our Collection Of Botanicals Has Grown To The Point That We Needed A Display Solution. So We Got A Plant Shelf Just For Them. Some Of Our LEGO Birds Also Crashed The Party
Yes. But consider that a "real" bouquet often costs as much, I'd much prefer the lego ones.
Load More Replies...I did something similar, but I quickly realized I should have bought a bigger shelf!
#uselesscomment (literally anything that’s not essential, meaning not food or water is technically “useless” by your standards. It’s not useless imo because it provided a source of decent entertainment and they were used to their full extent instead of just being thrown out)
Load More Replies...Sand From My Uncle’s Travels
This is not cool, actually. Sand theft is illegal in many places and contributes to the continued deterioration of beaches all over the world.
I did this when I took my cross country trip..when I got home I ordered glass corked bottles and gave them as presents. On the top I crushed up a geode and put it on top of the sand and glued the top on.I have a large family and instead of buying everyone something I gave everyone one!!
Very cool.. I have a few vials of sand from some of my trips, but never anything like this! wow!
My Collection Of Odd Pasta Shapes
No p*nis pasta? I bought some of that when I was living in Italy and sent it as a joke to my MIL. I asked her later what happened to the joke pasta I sent her, she was like, “joke…?” I told her, “Yes, it was p*nis pasta!” She laughed and said, “I never even looked at it! I made it into pasta salad for the neighborhood potluck!” Ah, she was a wonderful person.
When I went to Italy on a school trip, my parents gave me money and asked me to bring them a souvenir. I bought them d*ck pasta because it was all I could afford after spending the rest of the money on dumb stuff.
Load More Replies...These are fantastic! I'm amazed there's no b**b or penís pasta though! There's the cats here, the skull and cross bones, I Love this collection 😍
Hmmm, should I start a pasta collection myself? Then my first one will be a spaghetti.
To explore that, a study by Nordsletten et al. (2013) dug into the psychology behind these behaviors. They interviewed and surveyed 29 people diagnosed with Hoarding Disorder and 20 people who identified as collectors in London. The aim?
To pinpoint the differences between the two—because, on the surface, they can sometimes look oddly similar. But the study revealed some big distinctions between collecting with intention and accumulating without limits.
Miniature Books
I’ve bought several for my mom’s collection. Two are about 2” X 2” and are pop-up books one of them is about a child’s love for her mother. They’re precious.
OFF TOPIC; Just from the glimpse of this persons home, looks like it might be a nice house tour.
What Do You Think?
No kidding before the FDA It was literally the wild west out there. God only knows what's in those. C*****e and opium were in a lot of patent "medicines". They wouldn't cure you but you were too high to give a d**n.
Load More Replies...The containers back then were always so beautiful but agree, all toxic.
My mother used to have a bottle eclectric oil. I loved the smell of it!
LOVE this! Vintage graphics, packaging and on... SO great. Reminds me of the Cooper Hewitt museum in NYC, Smithsonian design museum. If you haven't been, you need to go!! @ 2 East 91st Street NYC 10128
Small Stones I've Found In My Everyday Life
All of my life I've felt drawn to tiny stones, wherever I am. If you kneel down anywhere outside that's solid ground, youll find them eventually. So basically sometimes I feel like until I find these stones, they've never been "seen", and I'm the first human to actually look at them. And for some reason that possibility fills me with peace.
I found all of these stones myself in parking lots, gravel roads, construction sites, hikes, baseball fields, riverbeds, and all the places in between, over the last 10 years or so.
I've got a collection of stones in a sample jar that I have made myself over the last 30 years
You have a very good eye...i like rock hounding for unique features like rocks with wish rings...
Like these: https://www.rockngem.com/gemstone-lore-legend-wishing-stones/ I didn't know that's what they were called. Thanks for the new obsession!
Load More Replies...Same. I have a shell garden outside for landscaping.
Load More Replies...The first major difference was selectivity. Collectors tend to focus on very specific types of items, say, only vintage cameras or airline memorabilia. Hoarders, by contrast, collect without boundaries. Their possessions can range from broken tools to junk mail to expired pantry items. There’s no guiding theme or reason behind their accumulation, just an overwhelming compulsion to keep.
My Glass Collection

2nd picture, 2nd row from the bottom, first left, the spoken eyes...these were part of a collection that came out when Casper the friendly ghost film was released, there were lots to collect and they're up the whole of the ghost. they also glowed in the dark, I had them all over my wall as a kid and lovely them because they were spooky
Why? Do you think they'll take a bite out of your hand?

Telechron Kitchen Clocks
I had a broken Telechron clock for 20 years, then one day I decided I was going to fix it. I found a YouTube video and that begun a serious addiction. Its been 3 months since I bought my last clock. Sometimes I lay in bed at night and I loose track of time, then I start to itch, I cant stop looking at the clock, how much sleep will I get? What if someone just listed another clock? Should I get on in every color? Why does the bird say cuckoo and not tweet tweet? Where is Greenwich? Why does the Navy get to keep the official time?
It bothers me that these clocks don't all show the same time. I mean, not even close! They're not even making the effort!
I love that they're not all showing the same time. It really adds to the visual complexity! Such a cool display:)
I really like this collection. The fact that they don't all show the same time doesn't bother me. It makes me think about where in the world that clock might be if it's reading that time.
Collectors are also planners. They’ll spend weeks, or sometimes months, tracking down a rare piece. They’ll research, budget, compare, and even travel to add just one meaningful item to their collection. Hoarders, on the other hand, are often impulsive. They keep things because “what if I need it later?” or “I can’t let this go.” It’s not about joy or curiosity, it’s about anxiety and fear of loss.
A Micro Museum For My Mini Rock Collection
I'd love to see a photo from further away to really appreciate the scale!
Load More Replies...I have a perfect sand dollar the size of a dime I found on the beach at the Isle of Palms in SC. I was about 9/10 when I found it. I had it mounted on a charm to wear in a necklace.
Is it your own opinion that you were a 9/10 or is that peer reviewed? And how about now, are you a solid 10/10? 😜
Load More Replies...My Pigeon Pins
I keep these cuties seperate from my main collection, as I have indoor pet pigeons and they’re very special to me. I’m going to continue amassing as many pigeon pins as I can, because as you can see written in the image, “I like pigeons!”
I like pigeons, too. Very intelligent, great at finding their way home, and amazing at flying.
Lost Shopping List Collection
I do work at a supermarket! This book alone took a little over a year to fill up completely. We’re about to start a second edition.
Very interesting! I'm sure there are a few of my lost lists somewhere out there.
Mine unfortunately usually get left at home.
Load More Replies...There was a Dutch newspaper that did a weekly column that analyzed a lost shopping list each time. It was always good fun to read
I dropped my shopping list while in the supermarket once. The person who picked it up was fixated on how small and neatly I wrote it.
I purposely leave my shopping lists in the grocery store, just in case there's someone collecting them!
A friend of mine collected shopping lists and published the best ones in an actual hardcover book.
https://www.hillarycarlip.com/oldsite/author-sub/a-la-cart.html
Load More Replies...I started a collection of these once but never kept it up. One could write an fascinating collection of short stories to go with these lists.
Their homes often tell the story. Collectors proudly display their finds: neatly arranged shelves, labeled boxes, or themed corners of a room. Their collections are visible and celebrated. Hoarders, however, may struggle with clutter that spills into every space. What starts as storage becomes inaccessible rooms and hallways filled to the brim.
Variety The Ocean Offers. All Were Found On Kauai And Will Remain Here
I think there are dire curses that apply to stones removed from Hawaiian islands that many hold credence to.
Load More Replies...This is why I won't go to Hawaii. I know it's bad luck to take things off the island but I am also an unapologetic beach comber and collector of glass, shells and rocks. I want it all.
There are even stories of people who send back sand they found stuck on their clothes after experiencing a string of bad luck and attributing it to the "stolen" property...quite spooky!!
Load More Replies...I had a bunch of shells collected from first and only trip to the ocean shore in NJ and many years later had a friend use them in a large candel for me. Quite lovely.
Thought I’d Share My Die Cast Collection. Some Day I Hope To Have A Real One
They’re all Ferrari. This is at least one of every Ferrari model that hot wheels put out, plus a few that hot wheels never made.
That one stands out pretty far. They didn't care for the usual bling in that model, the interior is rather functional than comfortable, which shows at the scale - it's got about the same power as contemporary V12 Ferraris, even a bit more, but more important, weighs some 300 kg less.
Load More Replies...A real one ... likely, the cheapest way to achieve this is a Mondial, pre T. They're not the most beautiful, but technology is near identical to 308 to 348 of the same years, performance, therefore, also is close. Plus, four adults can actually sit in one - any other model, either has no back seats, or they're fit for a rather small Dachshund at best. I'd prefer a fourvalve rather than a pre-injection twovalve, as they're more powerful and more efficient, while the twovalve injection models lack some 20...30 hp compared to the earlier models. Between Mondial and Mondial T, I'm not as decided. Twovalve injection, likely, are the cheapest, but that's not for nothing either. Anyway, if you don't plan to own it for forever, but just a few years, it might be possible to sell without much loss, just maintainance and gasoline aren't really cheap.
My Collection Of Rubber Souvenir Magnet Maps
How have you resisted trying to piece them together as a map, even if the scale of them varies?
I've got a magenet for each state I've been in and it's in the shape of the US map on my frig.
I have a huge collection of fridge magnets for almost every place we've been. I need a second fridge at the mo.
I recently sold my house and moved into a camper to tour the U.S. I had hoped to do this, but it turns out that although the fridge looks like stainless, it's actually plastic. :/
Impressive collection but I dislike using the refrigerator as a bulletin board. That's just one of my pet peeves of silly things I don't care for.
I used to collect magnets when I was little and we traveled a lot. No clue what ever happened to them.
Emotionally, hoarders tend to view their possessions as extensions of themselves. Letting go feels like losing a part of who they are. Collectors may be attached, too, but it’s usually because the item has a story, or because they love the hunt. For hoarders, the bond can be overwhelming and deeply rooted in distress. For collectors, it’s more about curiosity and delight.
My Wife Collects These Tiny Things And Makes Displays From Them. Every Time I Look, There’s Something New
I think many of us had thimbles in these displays. It was always an easy souvenier to find.
Load More Replies...I also do this. I need another little curio shelf for them. Funny enough, I also have that tiny mushroom and the squirrel underneath it.
I have a super small nativity made of smooth stone. The figures are just shapes and have not features. I love it.
This reminds me of one my mom (well all of us would add to it) had when I was a kid and gave me a warm feeling of nostalgia
My Airline Sugar Packet Collection
Is she a gnome or why she went to mini hotels instead of regular hotels?
Load More Replies...Extra credit for having packets from now-defunct airlines. I see TWA and Braniff. I'm sure there are more.
My Lighthouse Collection
Several Cape Hatteras, a Bodie Island, Ocracoke, maybe Baldhead Island. Don't see Currituck and can't remember the others but my son has 1 of every NC lighthouse.
My grandparents collected these at their beach house and Hummels at home lol
The difference is also clinical. Many hoarders meet the criteria for psychiatric diagnoses. A large U.S. study found that over 50% of hoarders were also diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Around 25% had generalized anxiety or social phobia. These mental health challenges often fuel their attachment to objects and make it harder to seek help or make changes.
The impact on daily life is huge. Hoarders often experience significant impairment at work, in relationships, and even in basic daily tasks. Collectors? Not so much. Their hobby usually fits into their lifestyle and can even be a source of pride or connection. It doesn’t disrupt function—it enhances enjoyment.
My Collection Of Feathers
In some places you're not allowed to keep feathers from certain birds.
There is a federal law in the US that prohibits feather collecting to protect birds from hunting for their feathers. You can keep feathers from domestic birds, or you can get a permit to keep feathers if you use them for education. Your collection is harmless but still illegal if you are in the US.
Load More Replies...Wow! A LOT of hawk and owl feathers there, plus some big ones I don't recognize!
pretty sure the motley large roundy one center back is eagle. fringy ones osterich?
Load More Replies...I drew some feathers I "collected" from internet photos. F-5-684612...240578.jpg
I had one very long feather from a Peacock on my wall for years. Don't know what happened to it. :(
OKay, this is fun! Pretty sure those are European (German?) birds. I see several woodpeckers (green woodpecker, spotted woodpecker) in the front (the black-white ones, and the green are the two feathers lower-ledt slightly to the left of the little blue one. The blue one is from a jay. THen I spot several owls, 'm pretty sure to the reight side (5th from below) is a tawny owl. The smaller ones below that (leaning to the left, they sit right above the most-right black-white woodpecker-feather) are also tawny owl. Might be long-eared owl, can't see it clearly. Then there's an owl-feather on the left side (last brownish feather on the left), that might be a barn-owl or also long-eared owl. We have a goose feather (the big black one in the back) and I spot the white one slightly to the left of the goose which is probably from a seagull. Right in front of the goose and the seagull is a striped one, a tail-feather from a buzzard. Left of the buzzard a bit further in front (tbc)
(2) there is a white feather with a black trim. That's from a magpie. Don't know what the greyish-striped one next to the magpie is, could be some woodpecker or something else I don't recognize. There's another magpie among them. The long ones in the back that look like they were shredded are either from an ostrich (zoo-find?) or an American rhea. Not an emu! Emus have weirdly fur-like feathers, smaller, with two quills coming out of a common base. Very interesting and very distinctly different from old-word birds. There are three pheasant-feathers (the first in front of the goose, the others to the right of that one), some more buzzard, possibly hawk? at the back (the grey-striped ones). Two European kestrel tailfeathers (from a male) - the grey ones with the black tip. Smallish, one sits right before the first magpie and the second to the right of the last/most-right pheasant-feather. I *think* the brownish striped feather right in front of the second kestrel is a woodc.ock ... (tbc)

My Spice Tin Collection
You can still get mustard powder in these tins. I don't know if I've ever seen anything else though.
Hoarding can escalate if left untreated. It’s not just about clutter, as it can pose safety risks, affect hygiene, and strain relationships. But with the right support and treatment, many people can find relief and regain control. And it’s important not to confuse this with simply loving a good collection.
A Collection Of Small Grotesque Faces
I like ugly unusual weird things. Most are handmade antiques made for walking stick handles, corkscrew handle, matchstick holders, victorian buttonhooks.
Tin And Pinback Collection On A Magnetic Chalkboard I Built
My Glass Bird Collection
So yes—there’s a fine line between the two. But that line is usually pretty clear when you look at intention, control, and impact. Collectors seek joy and meaning. Hoarders often feel trapped. And while both may live surrounded by objects, only one group finds true satisfaction in the space they’ve created.
As for the collectors featured today: they’ve got some wonderfully weird and wildly unique hobbies! Did any of these inspire you? Are you a collector, too? Tell us what you collect and why, because sometimes, the quirkiest things make for the most fascinating stories.

A curious, obscure fascination for sure! 🤷🏼♀️ Something for everyone I always say.

93 total credit card applications. The most from one company is American Express with 26 letters.
You guys know you can opt out of these things right? The only ones that have a "right" to send you anything, are ones you already have an account with or ones you directly apply for. I have opted out for over 20 years. I very rarely get any in the mail that I didn't sign up for.
You can opt out of pre-approved credit offers with the three major credit bureaus.
"My wife's and my." Sorry, sorry, sorry. My eyelid was twitching too much.
"Is"???? OMG, correctly written it would be "mine and my wifes's....."

My Garage License Plate Wall Art Collection With Plates From Around The World
I started collecting random plates from flea markets, eBay and from friends a few years ago back to use as wall art for my garage. I'm hoping to keep filling it up over the next few years as and when I find them, although I'm rapidly running out of space to actually put them!
I have a plate from when I visited Aruba. I found one that has my birth year since they only use 4 digits.
I Have 187 Cat Whiskers In My Collection
Why? Cats lose whiskers all the time. I just vacuum them up with the rest of the hair they leave lying around. :)
d**n i thought i was the only one !! considering weird looks i''ve got from friends who happen to be there when i find one.. but everytime then, i'm secretly overenjoying myself to tell them my little backstory : when i first got my beloved cat Vinyle, i knew she would shed her short fur like twice a year or so, but it never occured to my mind that cats would also shed their whiskers here & then !! so the first time i found one i was baffled, it was like little-girl-me found a lucky clover, brought along all the emotional support & compagny my cat gifted me during extensive dark times i went through.. i'm preciously collecting them ever since, & everytime i put one in my little whiskerspot i make a wish, like one would make spotting a shooting star :) she's 12 years old now, & i know that the day she's gone it will be a little part of her staying with me <3
TIL That whisker collection are not as uncommon as I first thought......
Why do ppl save these? Honest question. I have a cat and have picked up and tossed whiskers, never thought of keeping them.
I have a glass jar on the kitchen window where I keep all the cat whiskers.
I've got a tail hair from my first dog, but it's a memento, not in a collection.
I was told that collecting fallen cat whiskers brings you money luck.

My Grandma’s Thimble Collection
I was about to make the comment that I hadn't seen a thimble collection yet, and then this one popped up. Way to go!!
I collect thimbles because my parents started bringing me one every time they went somewhere. 😉

I collect these, too. Can't tell you why -- but they come in handy for holding postcards on display. Necklaces and bracelets. Stuff like that.
Y’all Like Shrek?
What movie is Frieza in, though? I don't really remember him in Shrek. Maybe 3?
I've never been interested in that movie, never have seen it. I think it's more of a millenial kid movie. I do know it was supposed to star Chris Farley, but Mike Meyers stepped in. They tried dozens of voices and finally ended on Scottish. This is the wonderful accent he used in So i Married an Ax M******d playing his dad in the film.
Collectors are like onions. (If they’re around long enough, you get used to the odor.)
My Collection Of Ticket Stubs From Movies I Went To Before The Year 2000

I collect old bound books, so many are being tossed in the trash or destroyed because books isn't a interiør design feature anymore. My collection is beyond breathtaking 😍
Thank you so much for this post! I can't tell you how much I love to see people's collections - the more unique and specific the better - double bonus if they have a special/creative way of displaying it. ❤️😊❤️
One of my students brought in his dad's collection of tarzos (pogs) to play with today!
I have over 600 sterling silver charms. About 40 are mechanical, including a typewriter that is about 1cm x 1cm x .5 cm that when you press the space bar, the roller carriage moves. I made the display cabinets, they all open up so you can take them out and examine/move them. 100_1117-6...88254e.jpg
