40 Random And Fascinating Facts About Our World You Might Not Have Heard Of, By UberFacts
UberFacts says it shares "the most unimportant things you'll never need to know" and I have to admit, that's a pretty accurate description of its content. Launched in 2009, the Internet project provides people with random facts on all kinds of topics.
From the number of janitors in the US with PhDs to the genius way Swedes protested their government classifying homosexuality as an illness, these titbits of information will make you an expert on trivia in no time. So grab yourself some broccoli (random fact: the vegetable is rich in vitamin K, and a few studies in older adults have linked a higher vitamin K intake to better memory), continue scrolling, and upvote your favorite entries!

As it turns out, there are some biological reasons behind people's desire to "store" trivia in their brain and the rush of excitement they feel when they get the chance to use it. According to psychologist John Kounios Ph.D., it's a lot like playing roulette, too.
"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning," the professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. "I think whenever you're challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It's sort of like gambling."
He said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games. However, unlike gambling and video games, trivia is generally not a potentially dangerous habit, Kounios said.
"I don't think there are any pitfalls. Like anything else that's fun, it takes up time."
Moreover, retaining information about things we're interested in can be like an exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.
"That's the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don't use it," Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia who focuses on neurotherapy, said.
So there you have it, folks. Browsing trivia isn't a waste of time. It's a mental workout!
Smart man, too bad most politicians want to hold onto many archaic laws.
Nevermind Trump making me miss Barack Obama, he even makes me pine for the days when GW Bush was in power. George and Michelle's easy-going friendship demonstrates that democrats and republicans are not mortal enemies, as Trump would have you believe. A good leader unites his countrymen, not divides them like der Drumpf.
I like that he was that confident in his ability to turn her off that he took his stalker out to dinner
Not calling out either side here because i completely support peoples right to protest. But 7% of thousands of protests can still do quite a lot of damage and at least 25 people have died from protests / political unrest.
If dreams are that medically reliable, the evil purple minion inside me should be born soon
Trump is an idiot.......Wow who the F**K knew? Damn this honesty just spills out of my mouth.....
There are more terrorist attacks/threats on US home soil than terrorist threats/attacks from other countries. This is why their gun laws are pathetic, you are more likely to be accidentally shot by your own gun than by a terrorist from another country.
Well maybe don't hide passive aggressive under "innocent"
Load More Replies...Just make sure it’s not happening too much, and you’re able to properly gauge your SO’s feelings before opening your mouth, or you risk turning it from innocent fun into passive-aggressive insults (or at least having them be received as such).
A sense of humor, is always good, in a relationship, it would bring couples closer !!!
ANd nothing is wrong with your relationship if you argue. Not arguing is unnatural. You will fight.
Yup... and it has to go both ways... not "Hey, I get to poke fun at you... but if you poke fun at ME... you're DISRESPECTING ME!!!"
We do that a lot. But a lot of people have told me they can't tell if I'm telling the truth or not in these situations. Oh well, works for me.
I once read about this big study done on long-married couples who claimed to still be deeply in love. The common denominator? Each thought the other was a better person than they actually were, as in smarter, better looking, more talented, funnier, etc. Basically, they saw their loved one through rose-colored glasses. I thought it was sweet.
married for 32+ years and i can agree with this. we always had an agreement that we could laugh in any circumstance - we just couldn't point and laugh. however, dishonesty does exactly the opposite; hence, i left.
My parents joke and poke fun at each other all the time. They been married for 25 years and counting. :)
My family proves that. My husband and I are always picking on each other and we picked on our kids as they were growing up (we still do even though they're grown). We don't get personal about sensitive stuff or mean, I dont allow calling people you love stupid or saying you hate them, but we have fun. Our daughter is the shortest of us all (we range from 6'4" to 5'7") andbwhen she died her hair red in high school we called her Maroon 5'5" and Strawberry Short. Her actual nickname is Poo Pie. We wanted our kids to learn to give as good as they get and not be afraid to return any teasing or anything like that. At some point we named our son's PS3 Juliet because he lived it more than anything else. One of our family mottos is "laugh, cry or vomit" for stressful situations. Nobody wants to commit, crying gives you anheadaxhe andnpuffy eyes so you might as well laugh.
Now, if only I was part of a couple...I'm already good at poking fun at others...
truth! my hubby & I poke fun at each other all the time and crack each other up.
If this is true my husband of 19 years and I will be married for 1,000 years
If you can maintain that then you've earned your happiness. And best of wishes on your upcoming Navel-lint Anniversary.

I too, am hated because of my superior plumbing skills 😞. I feel you Mario.
That’s okay the US voting system is flawed anyway, some peoples votes don’t even count because of the state they live in.

An accurate description for all of Bored Panda, really.
Load More Replies...I hate it when I get a notification that someone replied to my post only for BoredPanda to make it impossible to find (I've refreshed this page several times and I still can't see comments where I KNOW I made them... Although usually it's because the thing I commented on has been cut from the page - which would seem to happen at different times in different places since I can still get upvotes on things I said that are no longer visible to myself...?)
I use the desktop version too & the only way I find a comment is to look at the picture & scroll thru post to find

When open floor plans at offices became "normal," I knew I'd have to quit office life for good.

Maybe posts that were revealed to not actually be "facts" were removed? (I only read them now, though, so I don't know what posts disappeared.)

Every clinical study to get a new drug on the market involved a lot of statistics. To dismiss Quetelet's work because he was not a doctor of medicine shows a misunderstanding of how science works. He was working on obesity and population growth and developped this index as a growth marker, not an health marker. It was adopted as an health marker years after some studies in the 60's showed its reliability.
