This. Treat everybody with respect and let them keep their dignity, even when they ask the same question over and over. This time it was a child but it is usually our own parents or grandparents, or maybe elderly neighbours with some form of dementia. Please, try to remember that they never keep asking the same question because they want to drive you nuts. They just want to hear the answer. Be kind.

I feel you. I also have chronic anemia, despite taking the best supplements and eating the right foods. I can never give blood or plasma and need regular check-ups. I'm glad my sisters and brother donate about twice a year. I'm really proud of them for helping those who need it, especially now, there's a strong need for blood donations.

I don't smoke, but used to go outside with a friend when he smoked just because of this. Sometimes he'd smoke three cigarettes in a row so it could be fifteen, twenty minutes. P.S. he passed away from lung cancer... nice guy.

Unfortunately, it would just lead to people lying as to whether they smoke or not. Our company instituted a $100 yearly fee if you are a smoker (if you use their insurance). Most people who smoke just say they don't. There's no way to prove/disprove it if people don't want you to know

In every place I have worked smokers are free to go out whenever they needed as long as they don't abuse the privilege. Here legally employers are required to give a lunch break and two short breaks to employees, but as long as as person's job is being done no one cares if you go out more often. A lot of non-smokers (like me) will sometimes join too for a coffee while the others have their smoke break. The only exceptions were a couple of places that had shifts and scheduled breaks for everyone.

Yes. Barack Obama said that he didn’t want to be the Democrat’s president, he wanted to be the President of the United States. The tangerine toddler, who, Lord willing, will be put in his rightful place, insults his political opponents because he doesn’t have enough logic to fill a teaspoon, much less counter their arguments. Of course, the mere fact that Obama was black was enough to divide the country because of the racists, but at least he didn’t actively contribute to it.

This young man was wearing a mask, we were all waiting for the lift, in a semi-closed space. some people have a very simplistic viewpoint on the British empire, yes much wrong was done and religion was forced but we didn't do anything that the Spanish, Dutch ,French and Portuguese didn't do. In some cases we did good things, wasn't all bad bad, some people wish they still had British rule ask Hong Kong, lives are not better there now.I am not defending colonialism but its not a simple case of us being the bad guys, many leaders after the Empire did much worse like Robert Mugabe.

The sun never set on the British empire. The British empire ruled the globe and is liable for millions of deaths in the colony they ruled. The native population were kept as 3rd rate citizens. The French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, etc, colonial governments just robbed and destroy the world. Thanks for these God fearing nations we will have wars until the end of time. Yes, but consider at whose hands they died. From the reports I’ve read, it doesn’t appear they died at the hands of legitimate BLM protestors, but at the hands of agitators sent by white supremacy groups to disguise themselves as protesters, infiltrate the peaceful protests of those they oppose, and commit acts of violence (in ways both stereotypically and incorrectly ascribed to the protesting group) in order to discredit the group that is protesting.

I think the point is that if you just went by media stories, you'd have the impression 100% of protests turned to riots. That, in turn, creates more animosity against the peaceful protestors and the situation becomes worse. The media has a lot to answer for with regard to the current mess in the US.

?? yeah but many the people who killed people at protests were convicted for it and were also found to be from the radical right. And more people have been killed as a result of overreaction and prejudice by the police than in protests. I think it's completely reasonable for protests to go violent if our voices aren't getting through to the ignorant government. As a result of these protests reforms are being made, confederate statues are being removed, and so many more things are being done to help move this country away from inequality. And what do you think about the Boston Tea Party? The Stamp Act Riots? The Detroit Riots? Where would we be today without rioting? The country is should be listening to their people and when they don't listen and when serious problems aren't acknowledged, we have the right to protest and riot until we are heard.

To @scyth. You are so completely wrong. I sat in Kenosha and watched several very peaceful protests from my front step. Not once did those protestors get out of line. But there were certainly a lot of trump supporters there to stir up things and make people think they were. I saw a number of trucks where people broke off, and changed their license plates once they left the protest. And then threw their trump stickers back on their vehicles. You're just a complete racists. I've seen your comments here before and you sicken me.

@Dori Krutzinger Have you looked closely at the two photos you posted? Obviously you are trying your best to make black folks look like the enemy of society, but did you actually look at them? The man with the Target cart is certainly 'looting.' There is no doubt of that at all. Stop and look at what he has chosen to steal; Ordinary mundane household items, and a handful of children's toys. Criminals steal jewelry, electronics, alcohol, tools, etc. People who simply have nothing left to lose are the people who steal ordinary necessities. People feel they have nothing left to lose when they find themselves in a society which labels and excludes them practically from birth. Changing that society is what we must do.

Unfortunately, for the longest time, DHS ignored them in favor of foreign terrorists—-who, after 9/11, targeted other countries way more than the US. I worked for TSA from 2012-2017. Even after one TSO was killed and another wounded—-on the job!—-whenever I would bring up domestic terrorism to the terror “specialists” making their frequent presentations to us, I’d get the deer in the headlights look before they plunged right back into talking about how Al-Quaeda and ISIS (and their cohorts) were out to kill us—-even though they had to cross a continent and an ocean to get here, while the homegrown terrorists just had to get in their pickup trucks and drive a much shorter distance.

I still go into stores where there are unmasked people. It is a state law, and all stores have a sign at the door telling people to wear masks. It's not a jailable offense of course, but there are no fines enforced, so there is no incentive for these people to comply. I try to keep my distance, but sometimes these idiots walk right up to/ past me. They give me dirty looks when I back away. I have the right to go out and shop once a week. It's the only place I ever get to go. (Thanks for listening to my rant, fellow Pandas.)

You can earn rewards from using Bing, like Hulu gift cards. Their image search is a lot better and not crippled by Getty Images. Also it’s way easier to search for Adult Videos, so I’ve heard.

I once read about this big study done on long-married couples who claimed to still be deeply in love. The common denominator? My first cousin's husband was from Yemen. They met while teaching in Japan. He had a PhD in geology. But he was, quite literally, a janitor (though his title was something else). He was eventually held for 3 years without trial on suspicion of terrorism. He had a business care of someone out east who had once spoken to one of the 9/11 attackers. (He had been trying to find work in his field. A terrorist would know not to carry around an incriminating business card.) He was eventually deported after 3 different judges said there was no grounds to hold him. Next time his kids came to visit, he kept the kids. Said his wife would be arrested if she didn't leave. We all figured our cousins were better off because she had serious mental illness, and he was very sweet. However, they may be dead now, the situation what it is in Yemen :-(

I have a PhD in Religion from Marquette University and two master's degrees in Church History and New Testament. I left academia to be close to family and to start a nonprofit urban farm to feed food-insecure people in my community. I had to take an entry-level job to pay the bills and keep my family fed while I build our movement and run a nonprofit with no pay. There are many, many compelling reasons that highly-educated people choose to work at jobs that do not require their education.

Wonder where those PhDs were from? It's ridiculous to know that a PhD isn't a PhD... depending on the country... and that there doesn't appear to be a system in place to make a PhD or Master's transferrable. I knew at least 2 couriers who had PhDs... one was a honest-to-jeebus Rocket Scientist (yes. Fully qualified Engineer/Physics/Tech post-doc)... BUT... the qualifications were from another country. Another was/is a Fertility specialist, MD AND PhD with ... genetics focus? I asked about what happened... and apparently there is no equivalency test... or a 1 year "This is how we do things in this country"... They were told "You have to *re-do all of your education from the ground up* if they wanted to practice here. THAT... is a problem.

This is an absolutely true story. I work for a nonprofit and business development. We have several associates who have talked about their refugee and immigrant folks who are janitors and cleaning ladies and construction workers, simply because their education doesn’t transfer to the United States.

Same with street names. When I first moved to Raleigh, NC in 1979, there was a street just outside the city limits called Jackass Road. I always chuckled when I’d see the street sign, and liked the non-conformity of it. By 1993, when I moved away, the name had been changed to some banal thing that I don’t even remember. Don’t know why, since jackass is another name for a donkey—-the word ass is even in the Bible (and NC is firmly located in the Bible Belt).

This extinction is being driven by human activity. It's really quite sad to think we may live to see a world without tigers, or wolves, or Orcas for... reasons. It rains diamonds on Jupiter, there are comets made of gold, tons of ice -- the one thing we haven't found anywhere else is life. That is the most precious resource in this solar system and we're just pissing it away to make a few people very rich, while the rest of us are poorer for it. It kills me.

It's a relatively optimistic outlook. Also recognise that we've been here barely a heartbeat. And look how far we've come. We've barely shed our tails, barely out of the trees, and based upon a recognition of certain patterns - geometry - we have founded a robust and thorough system of knowledge that relies less on speculation than exploration, and this may well lead to spermatogenesis. This species may or may not perpetuate, but something will take our place, and there seems to be an inclination towards organisation. So, maybe next iteration will see a different outcome. Can I suggest an interesting documentary? It is called Skeletons in the Cupboard (two parts, the Red-Heads and Under the Carpet). It suggests, based upon oral traditions of certain ethnic groups of New Zealand, a history much more common than that which we take for granted. We have a tendency to isolate ourselves to a certain period of history, but the true story is evidently much more broad and much more unified.

Honestly, I can't decide whether Earth would be better or worse without humans. Humans pollute the Earth insanely, and nature would thrive better if humans had never existed. Are we a part of nature or apart from it? We have contributed to it, but we no more are responsible for it than we are for rain and floods and earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. We can influence our climate and environment to some degree, evidently, but also we are the result of our climate and environment. I don't see the purpose or the rationality of assigning blame. I see something that could benefit from my attention, I do that thing. Or not. The only importance in life is that one which absorbs your attention.

Sometimes it is more pronounced and sometimes it may tend to be more pathological or maladaptive. In extreme cases it is referred to as (clinical) narcissism. Nearly 70 year old white guy here and although I was not really a Marvel comics fan when I read comics, I've enjoyed all the Marvel movies. IMO, if I had to rank them, Black Panther squeaks in at number one... simply because I love the comic book spectacle of the last two Avengers movies. Black Panther is Shakespearean thematically. I'm really going to miss Boseman.

It’ll come back, as soon as anyone who remembers the meme is gone. I mean, names that used to carry unfair associations and connotations of things like being an old fart, a doofus, ugly, or overweight are coming back. Examples include Archie, Fred, Leo, Rudy, Olive, Florence, Ivy, and Sophie—- which are very fine old fashioned names that would look perfectly good and natural following a title like Dr, Professor, Senator, or President (my personal test for baby names) that have been unfairly out of style because of those associations and connotations. I’m happy to see people looking back in time and choosing them for their children. So just be patient. Karen will eventually be returned to her former glory.

I have always felt that there was something wrong with the signal from my brain to let me know that I'm thirsty. As a child it was a real problem and led to health issues. As an adult, I have to make sure I drink water at regular intervals or I would just go all day and not realise that I'm thirsty.

There is a great system that is used in addiction recovery circles - H.A.L.T. That is about staying clean/sober. Adjusting it a little and asking yourself are you Hungry or just Angry or Lonely or Tired, after you go have a decent sized drink of water, can often help your body with the thirst-hunger confusion issue once you rule out the other three. I find if I "feel hungry" and go and drink some water it can sort out the situation most of the time

By the time your body tells you you're low on water, you're already dehydrated. I usually get a headache but it's too late to do anything other than suffer (sometimes painkillers don't work on dehydration headache, at least for me)

This is probably the amount of water you need, not the amount you need to drink. Almost half of that you consume in solid form on a normal day. Our food consists of large amounts of water.

Besides, it was way too generalized. So, a 100 lb woman has to drink the same amount of water as a 220 lb man? Do you know just how hard it is to drink 64 oz of just water, while discounting all other beverages that contain water? Thankfully, we’re now allowed to include other things containing water as helping to keep us hydrated.

You ONLY hyphenate an age if it's being used as an adjective, eg "the 100-year-old man blew out his candles", or as a noun, eg "the 100-year-old blew out his candles". Stop adding hyphens randomly! Well, the UK is tiny and the only thing we don't really get out of those is hurricanes (the last one being in the 80's i believe). Tornadoes happen but not often. Wildfires are said to become more frequent here too. But then, the UK has very unpredictable weather too, given we're in the middle of a bunch of five main air masses. :I

Don't quote me on this, but I read that he is a simple cook at home. That is when he cooks at all as his wife is the primary at home cook. His kids also like to cook. They raise a lot of their own food in their garden and some minor livestock.

As long as he makes sure they’re educated and trained for careers that they not only enjoy, but that can support them well, I’m down with this. Though a small inheritance of memorabilia should be acceptable. I mean, I inherited a good portion of the furniture I grew up with when my father died (my mother died 10 years before him). My brothers (or their wives) didn’t want a lot of it, so I got the dining room set (table with leaves, chairs, and hutch), several antique tables, and a master bedroom set, which are now in use in my house. Every time I look at, dust, or use any of it, I think of doing the same growing up.

Actually this is true folks (sorry you were downvoted). Sleep loss over time can contribute to weight gain and obesity. It elevates certain hormone levels in the body, like cortisol. This hormone makes you hold onto extra fat. Not only that, but it may also increase your appetite and lead to a slower metabolism. Also, don't know about anyone else but when I can't sleep the contents of the fridge grows tempting or I'll at least make myself hot chocolate!

Oddly, trying to look busy takes way more effort than actually being busy. Being overworked is just as bad, and can make you totally shut down and unproductive. It’s a delicate balance.

The secret to alcohol consumption without a hangover, is water. Yes it'll make you pee a lot, but if while drinking alcohol, you keep drinking equal amounts of water, you don't get dehydrated which is the main reason why we get a hangover. Also, food. Never drink with an empty stomach ;)
