Animals and nature weren't the main reason for the ban, that was safety and order: Each December, police/ambulances/firefighters are constantly getting attacked by people throwing fireworks at them, people are setting cars on fire with fireworks, and hundreds of people each year end up in the ER because of firework accidents. And those problems also cost society lots and lots of money. Some other reasons were the problems fireworks cause for animals, nature, people with lung diseases and people with PTSD. By the way, it's not a total ban, firework shows are still allowed with a permit.

As a kid we would go for the summers to New Jersey and had a house that was on the beach block. I remember lying in bed at night, listening to the waves crashing crashing crashing. I now listen to an app that gives me waves, but it’s not quite the same thing.
