This Online Group Shares The Biggest Movie Mistakes That Made It To The Final Cut, And Here Are 40 Of Them (New Pics)
There you are, comfortably sitting in the movie theater (or on your couch at home!), snacking on your favorite popcorn (salted caramel for us), enjoying the latest blockbuster that your friends couldn’t stop hyping. That’s when somebody next to you points out a mistake on the screen. Maybe it’s a crewmember ‘hiding’ in the shadows, a costume fail, or something that makes no sense narrative-wise. You’re no longer immersed in the story and can’t unsee the glaring error—it seems far too obvious now!
It’s moments like these that end up being shared on the r/MovieMistakes subreddit. An online community of over 156k cinephiles, it’s home to people who love drawing attention to interesting mistakes that they spot in films and shows. We’ve got to hand it to them, they’re more perceptive than a hawk who moonlights as a detective!
Check out some of the biggest acting, editing, and narrative fails, as shared on r/MovieMistakes, and upvote the ones that really surprised you. In the mood for some more cinema sleuthing? You’ll find Bored Panda’s earlier article about the community right over here.
Bored Panda reached out to Ariane Sherine, who used to write for British TV shows, to learn about the difference between writing for the screen and writing a book. Ariane is a comedy writer, journalist, music producer, and published author. Read on for the insights that she shared with us.

Show (9-1-1 S3-Ep3) This Guy Got His Arm Amputated But They Forgot To Edit It Out Of This Shot
Well lmao, still better than the HP lazer printer used as life suport machine in a Portuguese " telenovela "...
Reminds me of the Soul Surfer preview where they forgot to edit out the green tape on her arm
I'm Watching Doctor Strange And I Caught A Crew Member Literally In Plain Sight
Well I personally do because of my old cinematography teacher Mr. O'flynn. Who cursed us all in specifically picking out movie flaws and setups. A gift in some ways. Like the secrets behind a good shot and food commercials. But cursed to never fully enjoy any movie ever again....
Load More Replies...That was a crew member, but he passed away a month before this was filmed.
Well, it's strange, so it's not like it's false advertising or anything.
My fav goof is Atlantis, season 3, “The Ark” episode. In an abandoned space station, in a spaceship, right there on the console is a Snickers bar wrapper! I had to rewind and pause it because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!
Unforgiven 1992. When Lil Bill Is Telling The Real Story Of "The Duck Of Death" , You Can Sew Gene Hackman Has His Lines In The Book
George Clooney use to do it all the time on ER. That's why if you watch the episodes with him, he looks down a lot.
Load More Replies...Or it's just a very specific bookmark that happens to predict the future of what he's going to say. :)
There is a great Will & Grace blooper where Megan Mullally flubs her line and then says "and I have it written down right here". It's probably done more than we have catched on to.
It's another one that gets caught because of HD. If you saw it the way it was intended (big screen, lighting hasn't been messed with, etc) you wouldn't have noticed it. HD screws up a lot of things. I wish there were an easy toggle for it on my remote rather than searching three layers deep in the menus.
wait "duc of death" ive never watched this movie is it about a duck with a knife
Comedy writer Ariane, who used to write for British TV shows like the BBC's 'My Family' and 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps,' was kind enough to share some of her experience when it comes to writing scripts. She explained to Bored Panda the difference between writing for TV and movies and writing something more 'traditional' like a short story or a book.
"Writing for TV and movies is different from writing books or short stories as you’re producing the blueprint for art rather than the art itself," she told us.
"You’re providing directions and dialogue but your script isn’t the end product, the TV programme or film is."
Pretty Woman Was A Big Hit In The ’90s.few May Have Noticed That When They Have Breakfast Together At The Hotel, Roberts’ Character Takes A Croissant From The Table, Which Shortly After, At Minute 32:10, Mysteriously Transforms Into A Pancake
I’d be smiling like that too, if I had a magical transformer croissant for breakfast.
I would be sad, because I like croissants more than pancakes
Load More Replies...I think she shoved the croissant in her mouth really quickly and then grabbed a pancake because that's what I'd do.
Got to eat fast before the rich dude takes the food away!
Load More Replies...Who eats a pancake like that? I mean, in what nightmarish universe would you do that?
I do. I don't really like syrup much so I either put peanut butter or jam on it or often just eat it plain. My grandson eats his that way too.
Load More Replies...She took the first bite out of the pancake twice, too, if I remember correctly.
I remember seeing that because when she first gets the croissant and pulls it apart it's all buttery and hot. But then she bites a pancake and I was like whaaaaa? No steam and not butter... pass (and I love pancakes too)
I noticed it originally, back in the day, but always assumed that she'd finished the croissant and moved on to the pancake.
About 50 Minutes In To Hereditary, All I Could See Was Toni Collette’s Wig’s Lace
Is this from the scene where she's nonchalantly creating her daughter's decapitation scene? That movie is messed up
It's such a terrible movie I understand your mind wandering instantly
I love Toni Collette, I love horror movies. I did not like this movie.
Load More Replies...It's a lot of minutes best spent doing anything g else except watching this pile of stink.
We talked about tatting in another thread, but the wig lace was definitely not tatted.
Fake Bookshelf In The Last Crusade
I suppose it's more obvious when you are watching something made with old technology on new tvs.
In order to appreciate pre-hd tv movies, you really need to set a mode on your tv with lesser brightness. It is not so complicate and helps enjoy oldies but goldies.
Load More Replies...Wow - that is so clearly fake. But i obviously didn’t notice in the theater way back then.
*facepalm* That is REALLY, really obviously bad, and I've missed it every single time I've seen the movie.
It's not deep enough, the books would be only an inch wide lol

To be fair...QT typically does historical reimaginings vs historical reenactments, so his movies tend to take some liberties.
To be fair it's a film so none of it is real and film cameras weren't invented at that time :D
Load More Replies...THAT is what bothers people about "historical accuracy" in what is clearly a period revenge fantasy ( like Inglorious Bastards)? Django and his wife would have been hunted down and brutally murdered real quick after the credits rolled because they were black people who killed a white plantation owner.
This movie makes almost no attempt at reality. Almost all of Tarantino's movies take place in a cinematic reality other than our own. They are mostly fantasy.
Yes it is, but it wasn't published until 1867.
Load More Replies...Neither was dynamite which blew up the house, nor the tea shades django wore at the end. But so what, it was a great film
They also used dynamite before it was invented in the film. Tarantino isnt trying to make accurate history, he is trying to make a blood and killing film
Well, the blood was accurate... At least, the real blood dripping off DiCaprio's actually cut-up hand!
Load More Replies...The majority of films and TV shows taking place in the past gloss over historical accuracy of precisely when a certain song was released, so this is not a particularly interesting or surprising goof. What's much weirder and makes little sense in Django Unchained is what actor and activist Jesse Williams observed to be the film's lack of accuracy about the general lives of slaves, too often portrayed as "well-dressed [black women] in flowing gowns, frolicking on swings and enjoying leisurely strolls through the grounds, as if the setting is Versailles, mixed in with occasional acts of barbarism against slaves". That is like, seriously _beyond_ historically inaccurate - it prevents any suspension of disbelief for the viewer. 🤔 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Unchained#Racist_language,_portrayal_of_African_American_slavery
Malcolm S07e05. Dewey Plays Without A Cartridge In His Gameboy
On a related note, I get really peeved when a commercial, video, movie, etc., shows someone playing on a PS4 when the power light on the controller is off.
An upvote for your downvote... yes, they did a version of a Commodore 64 that came with like 100 old C-64 programs built into it.

No! Don't ruin it for me! Lol. The Mighty Ducks movies were like my FernGully.😊❤️ I think I was around 7 when the first one came out and then when the 2nd one came out, I nearly lost my mind! I had such a huge crush on Joshua Jackson back in the day 😍

"Very few scripts make it into bookstores—generally only if the production is a huge success. Because screenplays are rarely as fun to read as books—that isn’t their purpose."
Meanwhile, we were curious whether TV writers generally try to adapt the script to specific actors or if the actors are cast only once the script's been written. Ariane shed some light on this: "The script comes first!"
The r/MovieMistakes subreddit has been up and running since mid-July, 2012. That means that its members have been slowly combing through film projects for errors for over a decade!
Over the years, the community has grown, solidified, and become one of the biggest groups on Reddit as a whole. But the real victory is just how active the members of the sub are: they’re still looking for accidental mistakes and editing fails in movies and TV shows, both new and old.
I Don't Think This Is How You Fire An Arrow With A Bow
The arrow should be sitting on her knuckle, but they often slip down if you are a beginner (no need to have the index finger pointing, but again, something beginners will do that does not real harm). There is nothing actually inconsistent or wrong about this per say, they just caught a bad moment when the bow was not in balance causing the arrow to slide off the knuckle. I've much worse depictions of archery!
The arrow is also resting on the incorrect side of the bow, which is arguably the bigger issue here.
Load More Replies...As an expert archer from that one time 30ish years ago in cub scouts when I tried to shoot an arrow but just ended up crying, she's going to hit her thumb too.
You don't "fire" arrows from a bow, you shoot them. There is no fire involved. I shoot in the Longbow myself.
So, it slipped off her finger. My arrow tends to slip out of place, too. Sadly, the bow is broken, so I haven't recently been able to practice, but still.
Slipped to the outside of the bow... Not going to be very accurate with how that arrow is set. Unless it's a lot of draw to the left.

Hand-drawn yes, but on several layers. The moving aspects of the picture are placed on top of a static background. So yes, it was a mistake.
Load More Replies...They first Simpsons aired in 1989 not 1992. I was 16 not 19 when they first started.
Seems clear to me, it reads'the first Simpsons episode in 1992" but clarity was clearly needed, since the first episode in 1992 would have been in early January, in the middle of a season.

Pretty close to the French spelling, actually. The O just needs a circumflex accent (the one that looks like a triangle without the base), then it's the proper French spelling.
Load More Replies...Look, it was early Supernatural. It was running on hope and Doing Their Best 😂
Now, before you rush headlong into a posting spree, take the time to read the subreddit’s rules. If you plan on being an active member of the community, you need to be aware of how to make your post have the most impact, instead of getting deleted.
Naturally, whatever you post has to be about the unintentional mistakes that filmmakers have made. The mistakes have to have made it into the final cut of the film or TV series. Meanwhile, if a mistake isn’t very obvious, explain it to the crowd.
The moderator team also asks its members not to joke about how some movie or other “was a mistake.” According to them, “it’s an overdone joke.” In short, the community wants fresh perspectives, not rehashed insights and humor. That push for originality is probably why the community has lasted this long: it sets the bar for quality pretty high.
Aladdin 2019 Probably Late To This Party But It Looks Like A Cell Phone In His Pocket
If that the case, he urgently needs to see a doctor....
Load More Replies...I would think cigarettes, or more likely the battery-pack of a cordless microfon.
Mic pack is my guess. I've had to wear mics that were about that size, and it takes a LOT of layers to hide them. I'd pick visible mic vs overheating.
I thought a mic pack / transmitter as well.
Load More Replies...More like the microphone pack. They usually wouldn't dare have their phones during a take because it could mess with the sound in case it rings or even vibrates. I've worked in movies in the costume department and sometimes we struggle to hide them. We ask constantly where the camera will be place and whether the character will get up to turn around and try to work around that. Even then, sometimes the direction changes or they're told to improvise. Nightmare really. But I also have fun watching movies and spotting the packs anyway.
My guess is a pack of cigarettes, but I don't know if the actor is a smoker though.. 🤷

Inventing Anna Photographer Lens Cap
This actually makes it more realistic... imagine being that photographer face palming when you got back work to edit
Dslr users can see it immediately. Otherwise the vision in the viewfinder is black. But it's very rare to see people playing photographers (especially press photographers) just holding their camera correctly, or using the appropriate lens,...
Load More Replies...Looking through an SLR (digital or 35mm) you would see blackness if the lenscap was on.
Meanwhile, the title of your post has to include the name of the film or show, along with a brief description of the mistake. If it’s a TV series you’re gently poking fun at, mention what season and episode it’s in, so that everyone else can double-check things for themselves.
Moreover, your post should actually have a pic or video of the mistake in question. The only exception to this rule is if the movie is still in theaters. The team running r/MovieMistakes also asks its members not to spoil recent film projects, unless you’re marking your post with the ‘spoiler’ tag. For instance, if a film’s still in theaters, you’d have to use the tag. Be courteous to any redditors who might potentially hate spoilers.
In Spider-Man (2002), When He Goes To Punch Green Goblin, The Stunt-Double’s Lips Can Be Seen Still. While Willem Dafoe Voiceovers “Impressive!”
I had to magnify it quite a bit and it still was not real clear to see. Good eyes but it seems like they were hunting for something "wrong". It's not unusual for the person in a mask to stay quiet and have the voice dubbed in. Masks can make it hard to be heard clearly.
I thought Willem Defoe does his own stunts. Well he did in NWH.
Pretty sure that is just William Dafoe. I also wouldn't call this a screw up, since you have to pause the movie and magnify, and it's still hard to see.

Seasons 8 and 9 were not good, so it does not matter. Larry David left at the end of season 7. I was so excited when I learned that Larry David was returning to write the last Seinfeld episode! Thank goodness! What the hell happened? The final episode was so disappointing. Larry David redeemed himself with Curb Your Enthusiasm, though, and with Clear History, and with his hilarious portrayal of a Bernie Sanders on SNL. Thanks Larry David.
SN: Jerry is a really cool and nice guy. He's rented out a theater auditorium in the movie theater I work at when he came to town to do a show at one of the casinos. I happened to be one of the MODs when he came to the theater. I pretty much was his contact/liaison while he visited the theater.
Like every other subreddit, r/MovieMistakes asks everyone to be kind to one another. The mods also frown upon anyone whose goal is ‘repost farming’ for karma and awards. Try not to repost well-known mistakes just because you want a spot of attention from everyone else.
In The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies (2014) Thorin Oakenshield Is Seen Wearing Boots With Modern Day Rubber Gripped Soles Whereas In All Other Shots He Has Completely Flat Soles
... and Legolas has blue eyes, whereas Orlando Bloom has brown eyes, so he is using coloured lenses throughout most of the movie. However in the scene where he is surfing down the stairs they forgot to put them in, so you can se the actor's real eye colour.
IIRC, the contacts hurt his eyes and made it impossible for him to wear them for longer periods, so at some point they tossed it for most of the scenes to be more productive.

Ok So Uuhh... Can We Talk About How Lyle The Crocodile Isn't A Crocodile?
It's from a kids' book. Give the artist credit for making him likable.
That’s legit what I said, also, Montgomery Gator, the famous angry ALLIGATOR from FNAF, is a croc, not a gator
alligators and crocodiles are both from the order crocodilia...but more importantly, it's a f*cking cartoon either way so F**k's sake.
The quickest way to tell crocs & gators apart is to look at the tip of the snout. Crocodiles have a pointy snout like the letter A, the first letter of the word alligator. Alligators have a rounded snout like the letter C, the first letter of the word crocodile. Easy peasey!
Easier way to tell them apart is that alligators will see ya later and crocs won't until after awhile.

Tyler Perry’s A Fall From Grace (Netflix) 42:00 Camera Roll Shows Various Photos With Various Fake Lock Screens With Messages And Fake Phone Calls And Mock-Up Dial Pad
Kind of unrelated but Tyler Perry makes some decent films and stage plays, he is not a s**t director/producer just because of his Madea films. Those films are very popular and there's an audience and demand for them, which is why she's so popular. Just saying people who only know him from his Madea films think he's a wack film producer when the man actually has a lot lf decent work outside his cash cow: the Madea franchise.

As we’ve covered on Bored Panda before, making movies is an incredibly long and expensive process. Consistency becomes difficult to maintain over months and years, especially if some of the scenes aren’t filmed chronologically.
So mistakes occasionally happen, even if there are people out there whose job it is to look for things like that. Nobody’s perfect, some minor mistakes will always worm their way into the final version of the project, no matter how much money you throw at it.
In Hidalgo (2004), During The Final Stretch Of The Race, Frank Rides His Horse Without A Saddle, Until A Brief Shot Where He's Suddenly In A Saddle Again
The most unrealistic part of this movie (besides the fact that the horse magically changes its markings/color several times) is when he sets the horse free at the end. But the horse is wearing steel shoes as it runs off. If it's going to be a wild horse you would NEVER do that. Shoes have to be replaced every six weeks and the hooves need trimming. That poor horse would end up lame and unable to keep up with the herd.
If you had to ride a horse without a saddle for a movie in take after take after take, wouldn't you eventually need a saddle?
In The 1965 "A Charlie Brown Christmas", There Is A Single Frame Of Animation That Is Out Of Sequence Causing The Two Background Characters To Appear In The Middle Layer And Cover Pig-Pen And Linus
Incorrect: this Christmas Special is perfect in every way including this
I have watched this movie many, many times, yet somehow never spotted this :o
That's likely a transition frame where characters are moving around. They make the movement seem more fluid. You'd only really see if if you're checking frame by frame.
The girl on the right is Patty and I'm pretty sure the guy on the left is 5.
On Jane The Virgin, Petra's Mom Is In The Hospital With A Breathing Mask On... Except It's Not There In The Next Shot We See Her In
It's not a mask, it's a ventilator. In the next pic instead of oral ventilation they have given her a tracheotomy. That is a common progression if it's felt the patient will need long term respiratory support.
From the position her mouth is in, I'm guessing it was supposed to be there or edited in or something Edited for leaving out a letter in something
First shot she looks intubated, not wearing a mask. Maybe they extubated between the 2 scenes?
And hospital patients are never hooked up to an IV as they would in real life.
The time frame of these sorts of projects also means that even if someone notices a mistake during the editing and post-processing stages of making the movie, it might be too late (or too expensive) to refilm them. Editors might run into situations where they can’t cut out parts of the scene either because that would lead to even greater continuity errors. Their job is to ensure that the audience stays as immersed as possible. That might work with most viewers, however, some people are so eagle-eyed that they’ll immediately pick up on tiny inconsistencies from scene to scene.

Green screen wasn't a thing in the 60s. Also, I was watching on a 13" black and white TV at whatever resolution that was back then. There was probably a ton of stuff I didn't notice. The impressive technology of the time was how the professor could make whatever out of two coconuts and a fish bone (or whatever)

'that 90's Show' Season 1 Episode 1. All That Netflix Budget And They Couldn't Get The Period Correct Chip Packaging?
Has anyone seen this yet? Is it worth the brain cells, or is it just another one of those " Hey, I'm a show about the 90s, look at all these Furbys & Cool Ranch Doritos so you fondly remember "old" things and don't notice this show actually sucks and has no real plot"?
No, it pretty much sucks. It's like someone watched a bunch of 90's commercials on Youtube and that's their impression of what the 90's was like.

Why do they do this? Does it serve anything? I've seen the subtitles say for example "13 days" but the actor said 18. I don't get it, especially with the numbers
It depends on the quality of the translator. Remember the sign language translator for Mandella's funeral. The translator was literally making up signs. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Frequently these translators do this "assembly line" style, where they spend the day doing these translations, for multiple movies, without paying attention to the movie or context.
Load More Replies...Yes, we use it as that in Spain's Spanish: when someone takes too long to explain something or uses, for example, very technical terms, we jokingly say "y en Castellano?" or "y en Español?". To me the translation is correct because when we say that we mean "keep it short and simple" but it's very colloquial, I don't think a direct translation would've made sense in English.
one time i was watching vampire diaries and the captions said [doorbell ringing] as someone knocked on the door
I have seen some foreign stuff where the English subs didn't match the English dubs. Like the subs were closer to a literal translation and the dubs are what they think the US (or other English) want to hear. One that made me laugh was an anime where - Group of girls, after school - going to go to cafe or some place. Ask another girl to come with them. In the SUB she says no because she has to go home and study. This probably matched the Japanese. In the English DUB she says not because she is going to go home and play Xbox (or Playstation). As if whoever did the dubs assumed US kids just wouldn't be able to relate to a kid being responsible enough to go home and study. Made me LOL

In Dahmer, He Returns From Basic Training In 1979 With The National Defense Service Medal, Which Wasn’t Awarded Between ‘74 And ‘90
I thought it was good. I felt like they accurately portrayed Dahmer as the creepy, weird guy he probably was. I think there are just a lot of messed up people who glorify killers for some reason, and that's not the show's fault.
Load More Replies...Swing and a miss on this one. The medals were, previously, awarded to specific units en-masse. Meaning someone who just graduated boot camp, like Dahmer, if they were stationed in a unit which had been awarded the medal for service in Vietnam, would be granted the award. The method of awarding the medal changed in the 90's, when everyone was granted it, regardless of status or assignment. Specifically the unit he was part of was awarded nine campaign streamers (unit awards) for their service in Vietnam between 1966 and 1970.
Something is wrong here. Wikipedia [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Service_Medal ] says eligibility ended in August 1974. Yet my US Army service began in September 1974 and I was awarded the NDSM, known colloquially as the Road-Guard Ribbon (for blocking traffic on-base during group runs). Did the day I walked into a recruiter's office count? BTW the NDSM is not a service award, merely a sign of having been available as cannon-fodder. Sad.
That and you don't get awarded a national service defense medal just out of BCT

The first Tremors film was enough for me, I've been terrified of earthworms ever since. I had no idea they made 5 films.
Exactly ! Although in the first film I loved Burt and his wife’s survivalist stockpile of everything! They’d survive the zombie apocalypse! Ooo ! I know ! Zombie Tremors ! They keep coming back!

In The Punisher (2004) Just As "The Russian" Breaks Through Frank Castle's Door, You Can See A Camera Man Standing Off To The Left
This is not the mistake this film should be here for. Thomas Jane (The Punisher) actually stabbed Kevin Nash (The Russian) with a real knife when in the chest when the prop department forget to replace the real knife with a gimmick knife. Kevin Nash finishes the scene and it was left in the movie.
They didn't reshoot that scene due to Nash's reaction from being stabbed. He sold it very well, like the knife didn't even hurt him whatsoever. That one moment helped make The Russian seem like the near unstoppable killing machine he was.

I don't know who wrote it down in the movie, but in that time the ussr was often referred to as Russia. Rusland in my language 😄
Very true. In America the term Soviet union, or referring to its citizens as Soviets was only for formal purposes. In any casual conversation they were always referred to as Russia or Russians. This also makes perfect sense since Russia was very much the dominant force of the Soviet union. Only one Soviet premier wasn’t Russian (Stalin) only one member of their 1980 Olympic team wasn’t Russian (Latvian), virtually every cosmonaut was Russian, and so on.

The USSR was a *confederation* of countries, not a country in and of itself. It was rather like the Roman Empire in that for most of the member nations, the "union" was neither a voluntary nor a happy one.

Filmmaking is difficult, yet so many folks with delusions of adequacy insist on spewing something. There are REASONS big-time filmmakers, even lousy ones, are well-paid. In The Gilded Age, in the last scene of the last episode of season 1, the camera pans back on a street shot showing the houses of the rival families across from each other. The creators suggest that the location is at the intersection of 61st Street and 5th Avenue in New York City. In the shot we see Central Park and so should be facing west. However, the shadows are lying north to south meaning the whole set is oriented 180 degrees in the wrong direction. 283146592_...41f187.jpg
If you think you're facing east or west but the shadows run north or south, aren't you off by 90 degrees, not 180?
