“Still Remains Undiscovered To This Day”: 50 Fascinating Facts That Never Stop Surprising
We all have varying definitions of what is “interesting.” Some of us are fascinated by facts that explain what makes the world go round, while others are mesmerized by stories that fuel their morbid and strange curiosities.
What you’re about to read from this list leans toward the latter. These were all lifted from the For Curious Souls subreddit, a growing online community that draws a reader's attention through the peculiarities of the world. And yes, some of them can be quite grim, making their narratives all the more compelling.
Scroll through and have an open browser ready, because you will likely want to do some Googling as you read.

In 1996, a mother cat rescued all 5 of her kittens from a building burning in NYC. She walked through flames 5 times to rescue each one by one before collapsing unconscious. She later regained consciousness and was reunited with her kittens.

Farm herd Casper, who faced off 11 coyotes and k****d 8 of them. He was missing for two days right after which they believed he was tracking the remaining coyotes and finishing the job. His vet sad was lucky to be alive and his owner said he will have him retire from herding.
Good luck with having him retire from being a livestock guardian dog XD LVDs REALLY want to work. One of my dogs is only half LVD, and physically disabled besides that, but he STILL takes his "guardian dog" duties seriously, even though all he's guarding is our yard XD (and us!)
Good for him!!!! Another example that belies the ridiculous term "work fail" for this post.
Again - "50 Employees Who Had One Job And Still Managed To Mess It Up”???
Missing letter and missing word, I think. "His vet said he was lucky to be alive" is probably what they meant.

We’re all wired differently, and different factors drive our curiosity. For some of you, these stories drew you in because of the morbidity, while others may have related to them in some other way.
A 2023 study suggests that a person’s curiosity is typically driven by their confidence about something as well as their uncertainty about whether or not they are correct.

A hero and survivor of the Parkland school shooting, Anthony Borges, gained the rights to the shooter's name, Nikolas Cruz, through a settlement in a civil lawsuit.
A survivor of the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas H**h School in Parkland, Florida, now owns the rights to the gunman’s name, according to a new settlement agreement that also stipulates the shooter must donate his brain for scientific study.
As part of the settlement, the shooter agreed to transfer the rights to his name, Nikolas Cruz, for use in any production, movie, book, television, cable TV, or other media. The gunman, who is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole, is barred from giving any interviews without the express written consent of shooting survivor Anthony Borges, according to the settlement.
Good on him. In some countries, NZ for one, a person convicted of a crime can't benefit financially from it. Any money they make belongs to the victims, or their next of kin.

In 1995, a man in France was convicted of m*******g a teenage girl, but he avoided prison by fleeing to Germany. In 2009, the victim’s father hired a team to kidnap him and drop him off in front of a French courthouse. It worked, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
It's a complicated case, there's no solid evidence it was a m*rder. For context: He was a doctor who gave his stepdaughter an injection at her request because she wanted to tan faster. It went wrong and she died. He didn't "flee" to Germany, it was where he lived with his wife (the girl's mother). Since the victim was French, he was judged in France but he didn't show up in court and there was no way to legally bring him to the country. That's why the girl's father kidnapped him and brought him back. But again, he always claimed it was an unfortunate accident and the investigation wasn't able to prove it wasn't because he had no reason to k*ll his wife's daughter.

In 1960, Ruby Bridges became the first Black child to enroll in an all-white Southern elementary school, walking through hostile crowds with U.S. Marshals for protection. Inside, only one teacher, Barbara Henry, taught her one-on-one in an otherwise empty classroom all year.
An amazingly brave little one. The marshalls who were accompanying her said she never cried or whimpered, despite one woman telling her *every day* that she would poison her, and another lifting up a coffin with a black baby doll in it. Ruby Bridges is still alive, as is Barbara Henry.
It explains a lot when you know many of the racists who hurled invective and rocks at the kid just for going to school are still alive and voting today.

The scariest part is that he felt the need to make a recording like he knew it could happen to him. "Feminists" claim false accusations are extremely rare, but in reality, they're not: plenty of innocent men get accused of the worst crimes by women who simply wanted to get some attention or get revenge for a petty reason.
False accusations are extremely rare but the likes of you and many bruised men, those cases get so publicised and vilified that many of us are made to think that somehow false accusation of r**e is far far worse than actual r**e. Somehow this single woman who falsely accused becomes far worse 'pure evil' than the rapist. Makes you think, doesn't it?

How can a country as forward thinking as the United States of America be so so incredibly socially backward?
US is not advanced morally or ethically. Read our founding documents w/o he amendments and see that slavery, genocide, indentured servitude, female slavery, oligarchy, etc were boiled in. You are being modest with your comparison by saying “at an instinctual level”. If we are to be brutally honest with ourselves as humans, highly intelligent people, leaders of nations, still go to war like chimpanzees.
The leaders of nations make other people go to war for them. To them it is a game. Someone please give them some actual war and strategy video games to play, and maybe they would satisfy their urge without millions of real people dying.

Please let "sleeping with a lion" mean that she simply was asleep next to it

In 1984, three siblings—Elvira (2), Ramón (4), and Ricard (5)—were abandoned at Barcelona’s Estació de França train station by a Frenchman named Denis, a friend of their father. He told them to wait while he bought sweets, but he never returned.
Dressed in designer clothes, the children spoke of Paris but could not name their parents or address.
They were placed in care, later adopted by a loving Barcelona family, and grew up with only fragments of memory: luxury cars, road trips to snowy Switzerland and Belgium, a grandmother who made them drink milk, their father coming home beaten, boxes of jewels, and even a pistol they once fired by accident.
Official abandonment papers described Elvira as a healthy two-year-old, with the odd habit of sleeping crosswise in bed. The documents said the children and their father had lived with Denis’s family before being left. They hadn’t seen their mother “for a while”.

In 1970, officials in Oregon used half a ton of dynamite to dispose of an 8-ton whale carcass that had washed up on the shore. The dead whale had washed up on the beach days earlier, and city officials thought the blast would blow its remains out to sea. Instead, huge chunks of whale blubber rained down on the beach.

Well no s**t it rained down on the beach. Lord people can be morons lol
Here in New Zealand, whales washed ashore that don't/didn't survive beaching, are blessed by the local Iwi, and buried on the beach. The jawbone may be removed for cultural carving. Whales are deeply important to Māori, for significant cultural, spiritual and economic reasons. The movie "Whale Rider" is a fair representation of this.
Oh, they had an highway engineer on the case! Although he wasn't sure how much explosive they would need, he was ready to set up another charge to get rid of the remains... Seeing how they were handling the "dangerous high explosives" it was far from today's standards.

Security footage shows little girl had gone underwater & never resurfaced. She was sucked into 1ft-wide pipe in pool. Her hand was first thing that appeared WEDGED deep inside pipe.
According to the complaint, Aliyah at about 4:50 p.m. was swimming with her family when she "suddenly disappeared" from the lazy river. After searching for about 30 minutes, Aliyah's mother had hotel security review surveillance footage, but the staff allegedly refused to do so without the police present. Police were called at about 5:45 p.m. to continue the search for Aliyah.
The Houston Health Department performed an inspection of the pool after Aliyah's death and identified several violations. Most notably, the inspector found that the pipe in which Aliyah was pulled from had apparently been malfunctioning by sucking in water when it should have been pushing out water.

When she was 23, Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of JFK and RFK, had a forced lobotomy arranged by her father. The surgery left her incapacitated for the rest of her life.
Rosemary was the third child of Joseph and Rose Kennedy and initially appeared to be a healthy baby. However, as she grew older, it became evident that her development differed from that of her siblings.
She faced challenges with language and frequently displayed outbursts and aggressive behavior, which greatly worried her parents. In response, Joseph Kennedy decided to have her undergo a lobotomy, a surgical procedure that profoundly altered the course of her life.

It was such a tragic story. The parents were heartbroken but they were also internationally hated, called ab*sers and held responsible for what happened. An officer pulled her over, said he could see the light flashing through the cracks. Let her off after presenting her to her parents. Wikipedia: "Israel Keyes was an American serial killer, bank robber, burglar, arsonist, kidnapper, and s*x offender." Nice resume.
They knew all that about him but he still walked free, so he could do this.

On the morning of April 13, 2011, 20-year-old Holly Bobo disappeared from her Tennessee home after her brother saw her follow an unknown man dressed in camouflage into the woods. Three years later, her remains were found, and in 2017, three men were convicted of her m****r.
In 1993, mother Jennifer Conroy and her baby daughter Ashley left with only a diaper and bottle for their usual short outing. A neighbor saw them enter a pickup truck at their home on Monroe Street in Kansas City, Missouri. They never came back. Not much is known about their case.
Photo from August 4, 2021, shows Luis Fernando Cevallos and Alexis Rodriguez after being pulled over for reckless driving. It was their first and only date. Just 15 minutes later, they collided with a tractor-trailer and were k****d instantly.
The cop's body cam footage is heartbreaking b/c he realized who they were when he showed up to the scene after he had just stopped them prior. The sadness in his voice....:(
On March 2, 2023, 26-year-old Sara Ebersole vanished in Reddick, Florida. Last seen at a Circle K, she later left with Tyrone Morman, now a person of interest. He lied to investigators and was arrested but refuses to cooperate. Despite searches, billboards, and DNA testing, Sara remains missing.
Her last known message “getting into a random truck with some cowboys” remains the only clue, leaving her family desperate for answers two years later.

In 2006, attorney Robert Wone stayed overnight at a friend’s townhouse in D.C. Less than 90 minutes later, he was found stabbed three times, yet the guest room was almost spotless barely any blood, a knife placed neatly on the nightstand.
An autopsy revealed unexplained needle marks, and investigators later found restraints and B**M manuals in one roommate’s bedroom.
All three men in the house insisted an intruder did it, but police found no forced entry, no stolen items, and no evidence of anyone else inside.
Nearly two decades later, suspicion lingers, but no one has ever been charged with his m****r.
They also allegedly found his own s e m e n inside him and the men were freshly showered when they arrived
Just those three pictures are enough to convince me, which is why I probably don't belong on a jury.
In 2019, Cambridge student Alana Cutland died after jumping from a plane in Madagascar. Shortly after takeoff, she unfastened her seatbelt and opened the door at 5,000 feet. She had been unwell, possibly from medication side effects. Her body was later found by tribesmen after extensive searches.
A reconstruction of her opening the door and climbing out, I guess to demonstrate what happened on the plane, that the other people in the plane had grabbed her leg to stop her, which I guess was needed for evidence in the investigation.

Who's writing this sh*t and giving no context ? The one who plotted the murder was a young girl they financially helped and treated like their daughter. She once showed up for a visit along with her boyfriend, they obviously let her in. That's when two other guys jumped out and beat up and tied up those elderly people before shoving them in the trunk of the car. They later claimed the whole thing wasn't premeditated but it was proven they had dug the hole in the ground days prior. They threw the poor couple in there and buried them alive. Apparently, they "accepted" their fate and hugged until their last breath.
Thanks, thst was much more useful information than the actual post

It gets worse. The little s***s who did that could hear them under there crying out in terror, and later filmed themselves mocking their cries while helping themselves to their stuff. Then went on a shopping spree with their money, buying all kinds of useless junk. They weren't desperate for money; they were just greedy, selfish sociopaths.
In 2003, 17-year-old mother Natalie Putt left her baby at home for a quick trip to the shops. She never returned and was never seen again.
Maybe she was one of those new parents who decide they just don't want this/can't cope so they leave the kid behind and do a runner.
The difference is that it's usually the father.

It's OK, they',be changed it to "97 Times People Messed Up At Work So Badly They Still Remember It To This Day". Oh, hang on, that's still wildly inappropriate for most of the entries.
