We all have varying definitions of what is “interesting.” Some of us are fascinated by facts that explain what makes the world go round, while others are mesmerized by stories that fuel their morbid and strange curiosities

What you’re about to read from this list leans toward the latter. These were all lifted from the For Curious Souls subreddit, a growing online community that draws a reader's attention through the peculiarities of the world. And yes, some of them can be quite grim, making their narratives all the more compelling.

Scroll through and have an open browser ready, because you will likely want to do some Googling as you read.

We’re all wired differently, and different factors drive our curiosity. For some of you, these stories drew you in because of the morbidity, while others may have related to them in some other way.

A 2023 study suggests that a person’s curiosity is typically driven by their confidence about something as well as their uncertainty about whether or not they are correct.

It's a complicated case, there's no solid evidence it was a m*rder. For context: He was a doctor who gave his stepdaughter an injection at her request because she wanted to tan faster. It went wrong and she died. He didn't "flee" to Germany, it was where he lived with his wife (the girl's mother). Since the victim was French, he was judged in France but he didn't show up in court and there was no way to legally bring him to the country. That's why the girl's father kidnapped him and brought him back. But again, he always claimed it was an unfortunate accident and the investigation wasn't able to prove it wasn't because he had no reason to k*ll his wife's daughter.

And there was no public outcry that forced an investigation? Yeah, that's the real "respect" that soldiers get: all just puffy words, but no action. And the military should be ashamed of themselves, but as the case of Julian Assange showed, the US military was always happy to protect murderers and rapists.

My mom was drugged and gang r***d in the army when she first got to her post in Germany in 1991/1992. She was only 18/19 y/o. About. She thought because she had kids and was honorably discharged that she couldn’t get Va benefits. She was 18 and it’s ruined her and her kids’ lives since she became a d**g a****t to numb her pain about it all. She’s now 53 and FINALLY listened to me and applied for VA benefits. She was approved the first time she filed and then proceeded to beat herself up about not applying 25-30 years ago. She told me when she woke up after she ran to the female captain (or colonel or whoever would’ve been in charge) and told her what happened and she basically told her if she reported it she’d make her life hell, so she didn’t until recently. This story doesn’t surprise me one bit.

Several studies have explained that a person’s morbid curiosity may be rooted in feeling the thrill of fear in a safe environment. That’s why many people are drawn to horror movies and plot lines.

However, we can’t disregard the unpleasant effects. Media psychologist Joanne Cantor, PhD conducted a survey among her students at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and found that nearly 60% of those who watched a horror film before the age of 14 had disrupted their sleep patterns.

The scariest part is that he felt the need to make a recording like he knew it could happen to him. "Feminists" claim false accusations are extremely rare, but in reality, they're not: plenty of innocent men get accused of the worst crimes by women who simply wanted to get some attention or get revenge for a petty reason.

False accusations are extremely rare but the likes of you and many bruised men, those cases get so publicised and vilified that many of us are made to think that somehow false accusation of r**e is far far worse than actual r**e. Somehow this single woman who falsely accused becomes far worse 'pure evil' than the rapist. Makes you think, doesn't it?

When you have a frozen patient, rule is they are not dead until they are WARM and still dead.

Other studies have found that people with a morbid curiosity may fuel a belief in conspiracy theories. According to a 2023 research paper published in the British Psychological Society, this is more prevalent among American adults.

You don't have to pay off existing debt to go back to school. In all likelihood you can go back into forbearance and won't have to make payments while in school. $693 is basically nothing in terms of student loan debt.

US is not advanced morally or ethically. Read our founding documents w/o he amendments and see that slavery, genocide, indentured servitude, female slavery, oligarchy, etc were boiled in. Later amendments attempted to resolve these issues, but have never been completely successful and now many of the good ones are being ignored by the administration. About 51% of those who voted (61%of Whites) would like to return to the original status.

Can't they even afford to hire someone to proof read? It should be 2 different articles. One about all the positive things. And one with all the gore. Then they should title each article appropriately. I swear, people are getting so lazy.

Chimpanzee with mouth open wide in dense green forest, surrounded by trees, still remains undiscovered to this day.

Humans are not the only animals that go to war. In the 1970s, two groups of chimpanzees fought a prolonged conflict, famously known as the Gombe Chimpanzee War, which lasted four years. They raided, pillaged, and k****d each other in well-thought-out and premeditated excursions. It really shows just how similar we are to other apes at an instinctual level.

It was and still is a very interesting incident to study because those chimpanzees didn't go at war for territory or resources, they actually worked in organized factions to k*ll the rivals for no other reason that they didn't like them. Scientists still can't explain why it happened with 100% certainty, that's what makes it scary for the humans who think they're better than "animals": they are animals.

He didn't "know", but suspected. The issue was that he was under direct command to not surrender unless his commanding officer ordered him to do so. Well, the commanding officer thought he'd died to the American forces, and wrote him off. He continued on his mission, which was sabotage and monitoring American movements. He was akin to the US/Brit/Aussie "coast watchers". So small teams of 4 to 5 men on an island who would monitor shipments and passages, and radio back their information. I forget when his radio broke, but he and the other men in his team fought on for some time, with the others being killed, and he was all that remained. He did suspect the war was over, but didn't trust the American forces until his commander (who had survived) returned to coax him out of the jungle, and relieve him of his orders.

If nothing else I've heard that he keeps moving and changing his name only to be outed every single time, and is thus unable to hold down a job. Conviction would ruin his life, eh? Nope; he ruined his own life along with hers. This mentality of a man's reputation being more important than a woman's life and dignity needs to die horribly.

A tongue-twister about knocker-ups ('upper' is a later change to the name) from the early 1900s. Try saying this quickly without stumbling. "We had a knocker-up, and our knocker-up had a knocker-up, and our knocker-up's knocker-up didn't knock our knocker up, so our knocker-up didn't knock us up 'cos he's not up."

Three young children standing outdoors, capturing a moment of still remains undiscovered to this day.

40-year mystery of three children abandoned at a Barcelona train station and their missing parents.
In 1984, three siblings—Elvira (2), Ramón (4), and Ricard (5)—were abandoned at Barcelona’s Estació de França train station by a Frenchman named Denis, a friend of their father. He told them to wait while he bought sweets, but he never returned.
Dressed in designer clothes, the children spoke of Paris but could not name their parents or address.
They were placed in care, later adopted by a loving Barcelona family, and grew up with only fragments of memory: luxury cars, road trips to snowy Switzerland and Belgium, a grandmother who made them drink milk, their father coming home beaten, boxes of jewels, and even a pistol they once fired by accident.
Official abandonment papers described Elvira as a healthy two-year-old, with the odd habit of sleeping crosswise in bed. The documents said the children and their father had lived with Denis’s family before being left. They hadn’t seen their mother “for a while”.

Explosion captured on a beach with smoke and debris rising, illustrating a still remains undiscovered to this day mystery.

In 1970, officials in Oregon used half a ton of dynamite to dispose of an 8-ton whale carcass that had washed up on the shore. The dead whale had washed up on the beach days earlier, and city officials thought the blast would blow its remains out to sea. Instead, huge chunks of whale blubber rained down on the beach.

Here in New Zealand, whales washed ashore that don't/didn't survive beaching, are blessed by the local Iwi, and buried on the beach. The jawbone may be removed for cultural carving. Whales are deeply important to Māori, for significant cultural, spiritual and economic reasons. The movie "Whale Rider" is a fair representation of this.

According to the complaint, Aliyah at about 4:50 p.m. was swimming with her family when she "suddenly disappeared" from the lazy river. After searching for about 30 minutes, Aliyah's mother had hotel security review surveillance footage, but the staff allegedly refused to do so without the police present. Police were called at about 5:45 p.m. to continue the search for Aliyah.

The Houston Health Department performed an inspection of the pool after Aliyah's death and identified several violations. Most notably, the inspector found that the pipe in which Aliyah was pulled from had apparently been malfunctioning by sucking in water when it should have been pushing out water.

Vintage black and white photo of a smiling woman wearing a hat, capturing a fascinating fact that still remains undiscovered.

When she was 23, Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of JFK and RFK, had a forced lobotomy arranged by her father. The surgery left her incapacitated for the rest of her life.
Rosemary was the third child of Joseph and Rose Kennedy and initially appeared to be a healthy baby. However, as she grew older, it became evident that her development differed from that of her siblings.
She faced challenges with language and frequently displayed outbursts and aggressive behavior, which greatly worried her parents. In response, Joseph Kennedy decided to have her undergo a lobotomy, a surgical procedure that profoundly altered the course of her life.

While in labor, Rose was made by nurses to hold her legs closed so that Rosemary's birth was delayed until the doctor arrived. As a result, it is believed that she may have suffered oxygen deprivation. But she was a vibrant, spirited young woman with just a smidge too much independence.

What a stupid, ignorant comment. Nobody has been imprisoned in the UK for saying something the government didn't like. There have been several instances though where people have been imprisoned for posting malicious messages on social media that have incited violence or hate, or have been part of a pattern of harassment, which is something that is illegal in most civilised countries.

It was such a tragic story. The parents were heartbroken but they were also internationally hated, called ab*sers and held responsible for what happened. IMO, they did nothing wrong, it was a well-deserved lesson. Cops are the ones to blame, New Zealand is a tiny country with a very low crime rate, they could sure afford to get the kid his own prison van.

While Liam's death was a complete travesty, New Zealand Police weren't the ones responsible for his transport from Court to prison, Chubb Security were. Chubb Security were contracted by Department of Corrections to transport those on remand from Court to prison. They are the ones responsible for Liam's death because they didn't adhere to Liam's transport conditions. Chubb were never held responsible.

A minor using his parents' car without permission merits prison time? Over the decades hundreds of millions of American teenagers have done this. Where do we go to turn ourselves in?

My friend took her parent's car when she was 15 before she even had a license. Then she picked up one of those flashing construction signs and put it in her trunk. An officer pulled her over, said he could see the light flashing through the cracks. Let her off after presenting her to her parents. The NEXT time she took the car, she ran into the telephone pole right next to her driveway as she was pulling back in. She ended up being an upstanding citizen and never got in any other trouble.

The parents did nothing wrong in this situation. If your kid commits a crime and you try to shelter them from the consequences, they're not gonna learn from it, and they'll do it again and again. Bailing your kid out just teaches him that he can get away with it, and you're actually damaging his future instead of protecting him.

I don't consider a kid using parent's car without permission a "crime". Unless he was a constant troublemaker or there is more to the story, the punishment does not fit the "crime".

The parents did the right thing, their son committed a crime and they could not reasonably have foreseen him being killed like that . The police/prison transport are the ones who fuc*ed up and are responsible for his death as they should have reasonably foreseen a risk to his safety when transporting him with other criminals.

The guy most likely staged the whole thing to get away from his boring life but never really tried to disappear since he went on to become a radio personality. He faked amnesia because he wasn't interested in going back to his old life and wife, he knew no one could be 100% sure whether he was it or not anyway. This is a mystery that's actually kind of... mysterious. It's easy to kidnap a kid and k*ll them, it's easy to steal a baby and raise them as your own. It's near impossible to kidnap three kids at once even if you can lure them with money or whatever, you'd need someone to help. And those kids weren't babies, you can't make a 9 year old forget everything about their past life. My theory is that they obviously knew the person who took them and willingly followed that person. The real mystery is what happened to them next: were they k*lled or did they accept to live with that person because their parents weren't as good as they looked in the media ?

Two young women smiling and posing for a selfie, capturing a moment that still remains undiscovered to this day.

On March 25, 2015, 18‑year‑old Brittney Jane Gargol was found on the side of Cedar Villa Estates Road near Valley Road in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was discovered by a passerby suffering serious injuries and transported to hospital, where she later died.

Cheyenne Antoine, a close friend of Gargol’s and then‑21 years old, became the primary suspect. Authorities charged her with second‑degree m****r and causing an indignity to a body.

Antoine initially denied involvement and remained silent during early interviews.

However, a breakthrough came months later when Antoine’s aunt reported that she had confessed to strangling Brittney with her belt; Antoine was reportedly “drunk, crying, upset,” and “saying that she had strangled her friend.”

The case took another turn when detectives focused on a belt featured in a selfie Brittney had posted hours before her death - the same belt later confirmed via DNA testing to belong to Antoine.

In January 2018, Antoine pleaded guilty to manslaughter in exchange for a reduced charge and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Who's writing this sh*t and giving no context ? The one who plotted the murder was a young girl they financially helped and treated like their daughter. She once showed up for a visit along with her boyfriend, they obviously let her in. That's when two other guys jumped out and beat up and tied up those elderly people before shoving them in the trunk of the car. They later claimed the whole thing wasn't premeditated but it was proven they had dug the hole in the ground days prior. They threw the poor couple in there and buried them alive. Apparently, they "accepted" their fate and hugged until their last breath.
