30 Instagrammers Whose Photos Are So Far From Reality, They Got Shamed For It Online (New Pics)
We all know that not everything we see on social media is representative of reality, which goes for everything, from lifestyles to bodies that are being portrayed. That’s why it’s crucial to take certain things with a pinch of salt, especially when reasons for doubt are clearly visible.
If you’re not sure what kind of reasons we’re talking about, scroll down to find some examples of people taking picture alterations one step too far, as shared by the ‘Instagram Reality’ subreddit. Ranging from editing gone wrong to excessive use of airbrush and filters, among other things, these pictures are somewhat extreme cases of altered reality posted on social media, but if you want to have a good laugh, you might just like them the way that they are.

Warren emphasized just how widely used it is around the world; according to Pew Research Center’s data from 2023, more than 80% of adults in the US use YouTube, nearly 70% use Facebook, and close to 50% spend their time browsing Instagram.
“Social media is just one among many types of media that communicate cultural values and ideals—including interactive experiences and reflections of beauty ideals. As such, social media use and interaction often negatively influences people's body image,” she pointed out.

Nooo Darcey (and Stacey) from 90day fiancé. They used to look so sweet, now they destroyed themself with all the surgery and look older than ever. It’s so sad what mental issues can make people do. The photoshop is so poorly done I had to laugh. Although this poor girl has sever mental health issues if she is really that skinny. I hope she gets the help she need before it is too late.
According to Dr. Warren, our sociocultural values and ideals regarding appearance value beauty and physical appearance so profoundly that staying positive when you don’t look like the perfect person becomes difficult at best. In addition to that, it often sets people on an endless journey to attain an ideal body, which simply can’t be done.
“In essence, our body becomes ‘a project to fix’ instead of a part of us to embrace, appreciate, and love. This fuels weight-based shaming, teasing, and bullying over body image and appearance, all of which sometimes happens in social media contexts,” Warren said.
“All of these factors can interact to put someone—especially young girls—at increased risk for eating disorder symptoms like binge eating, body dissatisfaction, restrictive eating, body image distortion, chronic dieting, and thin-ideal internalization.”

In addition to professional models, celebrities, too, tend to not look like themselves in pictures vs real life, as their pics often go through quite a lot of editing. Though some of them are actively trying to shatter the unrealistic beauty standards.
“Some celebrities explicitly request not to be edited or state when they see an image of themselves that ‘doesn’t look like them’ because of photo editing,” Warren pointed out. “This transparency, along with efforts by some celebrities to show themselves without makeup in their natural environment, can be powerful in dispelling beauty myths.”

Growing up in the 90s/00s when heroine-chick was the favored body-type, plastered all over any magazine you could buy, I thought I couldn't get worse! Had several friends who developed an eating disorder (anorexia and bulimia) and even lost one because they thought being overall skinny (no a*s, protruding hip-bones (low-rise jeans were the hot stuff back then, paired with cropped tops)), a flat tummy, skinny shoulders and sleek arms would make them lovable. Well, I believed the same s**t, even thought I was chubby back then (the hell I wasn't, but never thar skinny). But back then altering your photos was not quite of an option. Looking what's happening on IG and so on it's so much worse! Young girls and boys must believe that this is really the norm and they are just "fat", "ugly", "disproportioned". Back then we "simply" saw the elite who wore that body-type and being told it's the one you should have to be famous. Nowadays everyone can become an influencer, editing their body...

What the f. She looks gorgeous, she looks so much better to the right. She’s very attractive. I will never understand people looking beautiful and gorgeous to begin with and they still photoshop their pictures. This woman is so pretty and nice body. I guess she use filter but still, she’s not even close to being ugly. This makes me sad that my teenage daughter look at women on instagram and want to look like them, when in reality all is fake. Teens and young adults don’t understand that it’s fake. And they try to starve the self to look like the instagram models. I got no words. Makes me sad and angry at the same time.

The next step is reducing exposure to people and media that make you feel bad. “If you notice looking at fashion media or being around certain people who are highly critical of their body makes you feel worse, it’s perfectly healthy to set a boundary and limit your exposure.”

Aside from already being pretty and nonsensical, this is wild because she's on a tv show from Netflix. You can't filter your face during filming so we get to see exactly what she looks like. It makes no sense to do this. They even have s*x scenes where they do up close shots of what they call "c*m faces" during org*sm. The simplest solution is to look away and get on with your day. And it's "throw up", by the way. Do you think doctors would feel this way if they looked at you if you had some kind of a terrible burn or something? No. Be a bit more compassionate for the people around you. You don't know what has happened in her life and it's not your job - or anyone's - to judge her.

Men may be superficial (in as many ways as women are) but I have literally never seen a single male discuss thigh gap, nor give one rat's left nut about it. They may care about what's between the thighs...but not the gap or lack thereof, lol. I think this is one of those things that women put emphasis on, and I've yet to decipher why.

Insanely? No, lol. Does he look young(er) even in non-edited photos (most pics online of him are edited) sometimes? Yes. Genetics, general good health and taking care of yourself can go a long way. Couple that with photo editing, and there you have it. My dad looks a lot younger than he is too. It's weird when we go places and people assume he's my age, and worse when they assume he's my bf/husband, lol. I don't know why people seem to assume that anyone 50 or older needs to "look old" or even should. Hell even my grandpa looked closer to 50 something when he passed and he was almost 90. (again, genetics, that's where my dad and even my brother, got it, lol).

If people enjoy creating a sexual form of cosplay, and others enjoy watching that, why should they not be allowed to do that? Why should sexy pictures only have regular styles and not have fantasy styles too? I do think it would be nice to have 2 different names though, to distinguish between the form of cosplay that has the emphasis on cosplay and the form that has the emphasis on sexiness.

Well yes, of course she's gonna post pictures with a nice camera angle and nice lighting (and a nice summery colour balance), who doesn't? She looks gorgeous in both, but of course a video with less great lighting and lower quality image will wash her out and will make the pretty details like eyes and lashes look blurry so slightly less pretty. We all look this different in posed pictures compared to a video.

Eventually Baartman's look segues into a specific beauty aesthetic immortalized by Sir Mix-A-Lot in "Baby Got Back." Suzan-Lori Parks wrote an amazing play called "Venus" about her.
