I'm sorry but it's hard to not be sarcastic when title of the page says "ideas so good people had to share them" and the first thing down is something that our grandma's used to do and what's in every other home 🤦♀️😂 That's not a "idea so good" etc. That's hardly an idea at all!
Wow no one has ever printed out their own photos & hung them on a wall before! 😱
Yes to cat, but seriously, photo / print framing is extraordinarily expensive ... at least in Oz.
My Home
Decorating your home can be a lot of work. While some people may have a natural eye for it, others (myself included) can struggle quite a lot. Mixing and matching colors, textures, and shapes requires some knowledge in aesthetics, so it shouldn't be surprising that some people find decorating their homes quite anxiety-inducing.
The problem is that most of us still want to live in a beautiful home. One that is aesthetically pleasing, cozy, and adheres to our tastes. So, ultimately, we just have to suck it up and do the work. The truth is that many people experience decorating anxiety, so we might as well just take comfort in the fact that we're in this together.
What Would You Call This Aesthetic?
My House Was Completely Destroyed In A Fire And We Just Finished Rebuilding. My Nesting Is Slow But It’s Going!
Haha! Just installed flooring throughout my house and it looks like this flooring! Love it!
Installing this in an apartment right now, accidentally got the industrial grade. The plus side is it should wear like iron and last for many years.

I would call it hunter's green, maybe moss, also dark military green.
New homeowners often have to grapple with decorating anxiety. Whether you're a student who's just moved into their first dorm or a couple who bought their first house, it can be stressful to furnish your space and decorate it the right way. Especially when you're on a budget!
Licensed Psychologist Dr. Lauren Hazzouri told Architectural Digest that her clients often express the same worries. But she also claims it's something we just have to get over; ultimately, it will be worth it. "Pulling the proverbial trigger to create your own sanctuary is important for so many reasons, including energy, mood, even the likelihood that you’ll socialize in your home."
Thoughts On The Gallery Wall?
They do, a bit; it looks like this is the furniture they have, and they're trying to make it work within the confines of a small space. I love the natural light, though, and would love to see how it looks in the evening with the lights on.

Much of the anxiety of decorating comes from the fear of making mistakes. And if you're trying to limit your expenses, that can be especially true. However, that only makes your anxiety worse. If we looked at interior design and home decorating as a process of trial and error, we could eliminate much of the stress around it.

If that's a real plant it's not going to like living so close to a radiator.
That's not a radiator, it's a wall panel/decorative piece.

I’ll admit I like it. Love it even. Too many homes with greige or washed out colours. It’s lovely to see something so joyful. 💕
Load More Replies...I love the wallpaper. So many colors for matching pillows, rugs and such.
I like that color is coming back, but it has to be done right. This would be way too loud and busy for me to relax and sleep in. And the rug is too small, the bed legs should be on top of it. It may work better if placed horizontally at the end of the bed so the bed legs can be on top of it, but it would still be too small.
The wallpaper is on the wall BEHIND the bed. You wouldn't see it at all.

Porch Rug Update
If they ever want to rent this space out, I could easily live on that porch for a week! Beautiful.
According to Caroline On Design, reminding yourself that you don't have to get it right the first time reduces much of the decorating overwhelm. "We don’t get it magically correct the first time (except on occasion)! Regardless of how much of a knack for design a person has, there is always an element of trial and error in decorating."

Scared Some But I Did It. Purple Bathroom
I'd stick a pothos on that shelf and string of something (pearls, maybe) in the window. They would be a gorgeous contrast to the rest of the room and besides, the dried flowers and wreath have a place, but not here imo.
It is so well lit by that huge window. The neutrals tone down the darker color, and give the room elegance.
Just Finished Our Bedroom Last Night! Started Dec 26 With Blank White Walls And Grey Carpet. The Pillows Are Missing But I Just Wanted To Show Off My Hard Work
Finally, a bedroom post where there aren’t too many pillows!
Darker drapes. Would be hard to sleep, for me, with so much light coming through. Very nice.
When will we see a post without a comment on pillows/no pillows at all? Very nice, the colours fit very well together.
The wainscoting takes the harshness out of the wall paper, had it covered the whole wall. Perfect!
The way your home looks is important. As Nick Cryer, founder of Berkeley Place, says: "Interior design can significantly impact your well-being by creating spaces that promote comfort, functionality, and aesthetic appeal." The right colors, lighting, and spatial layout can influence our mood, reduce stress, and just generally make us feel better.

Yeah, the colour drenched ceiling doesn't look good, makes the room feel low and the massive lighting fan looks weirdly like it's coming for you. Paler ceiling would be better.
My first thought exactly! I've never been claustrophobic, but this ceiling is making me feel it.
Load More Replies...Nah, too much " business " with carpet and floral wall for my liking.
Clever use of toning background to the wallpaper and paint on adjoining wall. Pulls the room together. Is the underlying shade of the carpet also matching the paint on the walls?
Before/After - Downstairs Toilet
But that's precisely why it's there, because the space is so narrow a regular sink, no matter how small, would never fit.
Load More Replies...I still can’t get on with those type of wall tiles. They remind me far too much of Victorian public toilets!
Indeed, I can sort of smell them from here... I like the floor tiles very much though.
Load More Replies...But what if you end up overdoing it, thinking too much about what pictures would best suit that space above the staircase? Obsessing over decorations and how your house looks can also be a thing. Author and life coach Martha Beck writes that if you feel you're on a never-ending loop of decorating, you need to find some balance.
Is The Grey / White / Black Minimalism Trend Since 2010 Finally Dying Off?
I don't think minimalism will ever die completely, but maximalism is definitely a thing now. Who cares what they trends are anyway, though? Do what you love, and what supports the way you need and want to live.

Just Put The Shelves Up Myself Today
Love the color as well (my flat has this shade of grey on the walls, too). You can add nearly every colour to it for decoration, grey enhances dark red beautifully for example. I would be careful to not put too many big, leafed plants near your bed, because they dispense co2 during the night, which can influence the quality of your sleep.
Unfortunately, I would be worried about having all that stuff falling on my head.
First, Beck writes, it's best to map out how you want your room or space to look. She recommends people set an end goal to how the room or a particular corner of the house should look. Once we visualize and plan how the finished space should look, any add-ons will make it look less like your goal.

Just Finished Our Powder Room. What Is Something Funky And Cool I Can Put Above Toilet?
Not really funky, but a vase of Chinese Red peonies and/or dahlias would POP.
Don't put anything. There's already a lot going on with the wallpaper and mirror.
A well-chosen piece like a mirror or a picture (maybe with a white mat) does a lot to break up busy wallpaper, if that's your concern.

My New Bathroom Is Finished, What Do You Think?
Using that sink/basin seems a bit too tight plus the bath tap/faucet placement seems a bit of a toe stubber in its location climbing in and out otherwise I like it.
agreed...i,personally hate pedestal sinks..no storage.
Load More Replies...I would have put it closer to the loo or even chosen a small vanity instead of a pedestal. Then the towel rail could have gone on the window wall.
Load More Replies...Well, the wall and floor tiles don't go together at all. The sink is shoved into the corner, making it more difficult to use, and is too small for the space. The black toilet seat sticks out like a sore thumb and breaks up the line of sight. There is no decor, not even a mirror over the sink. The tub is rather unsightly, but if you want a jetted tub, who cares if they're out of fashion now. Overall, a miss.
Second, according to Beck, it's important to find out the reason behind you obsessing over decorating. Some people use it as a distraction from other problems, like dealing with unwanted feelings. To find this out, Beck recommends sitting down in your room for 10 minutes and taking a look around.

No, they are sprung - the end of it is pressed against the glass.
Load More Replies...I like the colours in this room very well. Very bright and happy for the first room everyone of us enters in the morning. However, I would have chosen the curtain shower OR the pattern on the left wall. Together they kind of "neutralize" their effect. Which, each on his own fits the room very well.

If you get the urge to fix something, you might be decorating through anxiety. Because if your decorating urges came wanting to make your home more beautiful, you would start noticing the beautiful details that are already there, like the pattern of a rug. "If you accept your home as it is, you'll be in a position to decorate out of a love for beauty, rather than a fear of being present," Beck writes.

Load More Replies...Her third tip for obsessive decorators is to consider if you're doing this just because you want to "get things done." Our culture values any activity, even if it's just for doing's sake, so let your home be the one place where everything doesn't have to be perfect. "If you accept your home as it is, you'll be in a position to decorate out of a love for beauty," Beck concludes.

I'd avoid open cupboards in the kitchen, too much gunk settles from cooking, even with the exhaust. Or maybe only my kitchen is like that?
Not only yours. I hate open cupboards for the same reason.
Load More Replies...Very nice, cooling colour for the kitchen. And for all the open-space "haters". My experience as a part time cleaner is, if your cupboards have doors or not, dust and grease go in there as well, as long as they are not air-tight. And it´s the most neglected place for inside-cleaning as well, because you don´t look there often. The first thing I had to clean in every "new" household was inside the cabinets and the upper sides of doorframes and cupboards. You can not imagine what you can find there...
The section above the exhaust fan is not a good fit but I like the pale green colour used
There are only three things placed. Put them into your dishwasher once in a week and clean the shelve with a grease cleaner. 5 minutes work. Plus, where in akitchen so small would you keep all your stuff if not above?

It seems like there's no balance here, and also not much kitchen. 90% of this stuff is just on display. Is this a kitchen or an antique shop? And what with the freshman-year-at-college lights? Between all open shelving and nothing practical stored in them, I'd say this kitchen is the extreme in non-functionality.

Well, to be honest I don't like it at all :( I like how the shower was made but the walls and ceiling look like someone smoked in the room for years on end... The color is just unpleasant and the structure doesn't help, since it reminds me of chipping paint being covered with new one. Maybe if owner would replace lighting from dim warm tone to more luminous white lights, it would help a little. Wooden cabinet doesn't fit with anything - not with floor, shower nor walls - it's again much to yellow in tone. But that can be easily fixed with painting it black or blue like the shower tiles! Also, I'm not sure why floor tiles in the shower are completely different, both in size and color, than the rest of the flooring. In the end, as a project of putting new shower into old bathroom - solid B+, but as a whole room it's not for me at all. Sorry.
I like how the picture matches the tiles. The shower is well done as well, I just would prefer shower curtains. Cabins ( if glass or plastic ) are so hard to clean and maintain, you will have mould on the most unreachable parts in no time. And if I may say so, the texture of the wall and ceiling is not pretty, in my eyes at least. Combined with the shiny white colour and the two Lights ( ceiling and above the mirror ) it has the charm of a 70 years german school-restroom. You could paint the Cupboard a matching blue, and the walls a matt colour (for example a lighter shade of the green in the picture), to attenuate the structure.
It’s A Saturday Afternoon… What Does Your Living Room *really* Look Like?
I'm not into snakes and skulls, but the rest is good. I would have those shelves filled with books instead of knick-knacks.
I would literally never show you what my living room looks like. Full of kids' toys and shelves of books and piano music.
I've got stacks of books (tried to move a bookshelf without emptying it and it collapsed, yet to be replaced; at least the books have been piled neatly now), baskets of outgrown toys I'm sorting to donate, and an old tv that's been sitting in the corner for a year while I fail to decide what to do with it. Talking to my neighbour a few days ago and it turns out she's had an old tv sitting on her living room floor for two years, so at least I'm not alone. I've got several hundred books in here, a 9-foot high bay window facing southwest, a cozy sofa to read on, and dozen of plants (both living and built of LEGO-type bricks). It's chaotic and won't make any magazine spreads, but it works.

I like the chocolate brown very much. If you would colour the ceiling golden/brass or find a metallic gold wallpaper for it, it would upgrade the rest hugely. I had that done to my shop ceiling which was very narrow with wine-red walls. Game changer to white ceiling and narrowness.
To Hang Art Over Wallpaper Or Not?
I wouldn't mind that carpet though I'd probably hang it on the wall
And please take down these horrible, 80/90s placemats. Looks like you would put the soup pot on the table any minute. If you really have to use them, put them on, while eating and not letting them on all day. Put a nice vase with flowers on it, matching the colours of the carpet.
Our Space
I like the dark blue paired with the brass/dark golden color of the lamp and curtains. Maybe it´s just the lightning of the picture, but I would try to match the bedsheets with it (terracotta doesn´t fit to well, in my opinion). And if you go with Feng Shui, you should never put your bed under the window.
My Moms House After My BF & I Moved Out
I love all of these. I wish I had an eye for decorating like most people. My house just looks boring.
I love to see colour coming back after too many years of greige. And fortunately less minimalism. It doesn’t have to be clutter, just things you love that make you happy.
I agree. I didn't like the minimalism either. It had no personality. But I don't like the patterned walls. Imo, solid color on the walls allows for greater flexibility in the little things like pillows and rugs.
