Anyone who’s spent even a bit of time on social media knows how overwhelming the amount of information there is. While you can definitely find some great sources, pieces of advice, and supportive people online, you also have to filter out the noise. Inevitably, you come across posts that are beyond bizarre, especially when it comes to parenting, a topic that seemingly everyone has an opinion about.

Our team at Bored Panda has collected some of the most unhinged, weird, and confusing posts ever shared in mom groups on the internet. While honesty is commendable, careless oversharing and opinions masquerading as facts can do a lot more harm than good, especially if any impressionable parents are reading your ideas. Scroll down to go down the online parenting group rabbit hole.

My 16 year old hasnt had his hair cut for about 5 years, it's down his back! I used to hate it but it's his hair he can do what he likes with it, now am jealous of it, he has lovely hair.

In my late teens, I date a young man with gorgeous long hair. His mother grumbled about him needing a hair cut. I asked if maybe she was a tad jealous. Bless her, she fessed up.

To be honest, I'd love to be shaved in my sleep. It's a tedious, long and painful procedure for me due to my sensitive skin so if someone did it while I was out for the count I'd highly appreciate it.

The simple fact is that following every single piece of advice you stumble across online, especially on social media, can be very harmful for you and your children.

You wouldn’t suddenly change your child’s diet or your entire parenting style just because you saw someone boast about how their approach is amazing and super trendy online. Similarly, you wouldn’t risk your kids’ health because you read someone’s unhinged tirade on social media.

Well, we had a squirts bottle of water for the cats, and my granddaughter was pitching a fit when she was about 4, so I lightly squirted her more for the shock value & it worked. However, I then gave it to her & let her squirt me, so we both ended up laughing. My daughter, the cat lover, kept teasing us that she was having a kitten when she was pregnant. I think she was right.

My mom, dad, brother, and me all had ridiculously light blonde hair up until puberty. My dad’s didn’t darken, but my mom’s hair became brown, my brother’s is a very dirty blonde, and mine got darker but I’ve been dyeing it for over 20 years. I’ve always wanted red hair… I haven’t dyed it in a while though, and I’m so streaky grey…

You need to know how to filter out fact from fiction, recognize what bias looks like, and be very careful about who you listen to. What doesn’t help is that there are a lot of overly confident parents out there who have very loud opinions about, well, pretty much everything: from childcare and education to nutrition, health, and beyond.

This is why everyone doesn't need to be a parent. Let's punish the child for crying instead of finding out why they are crying. Her child will bounce as soon as she is 18 and then go NC.

This can translate into the workplace. Misbehaviour can be the result of stresses rather than an "attitude problem", and punishments are not the answer.

My dad would say that as a joke to me. I used to just laugh. He was emotionally abúsive to my mom when I was a kid (they are fine now, mostly). I’m happy I punched him in the jaw when I was 12 after he wrecked my Lego house.

You can take a two-pronged approach to evaluating someone’s claims. First, you can double-check and cross-reference the ideas they share with other sources online. You want to see whether there’s any scientific logic or factual basis behind what someone’s writing or if they’re presenting their subjective opinion as objective fact.

The drawback is that many people are busy with work, studies, parenting, hobbies, fitness, chores, and (sometimes even) a social life, so it’s very time-consuming to check every little bit of info. To save time, you should evaluate a source’s reliability.

Racism, sexism and homophobia are wrong because they attack a person for something they had no control over. Stupid opinions are something you CHOOSE. The second thing you should consider before following parenting (or any other) tips you find online is to consider who is making these claims. Naturally, there are no ‘perfect’ sources as everyone makes mistakes from time to time. But that’s not to say that all sources are equal. Some will be far more objective and trustworthy than others.

I wouldn't have given this tamiflu either; i wouldn't even have gone to the doctor. Dutch doctors wouldn't prescribe it either. They would probably tell me to make sure she drinks enough, give her paracetamol (tylenol) when she's feeling unwell and come back when the fever doesn't come down in 3 days or when it gets worse.

I don't like body hair and managed to shave 😸 fine during pregnancy. I can't imagine why you would ask a child. You can feel what you are doing, I can't see even everything when I'm not pregnant

Historically, well at least for the last hundred years or more, a Valentine's day card or gift has been associated with romantic love, often sent anonymously but in the hope that the object of desire knows who sent it really. It's only relatively recently that I've seen, from the US, the idea that everybody gets a valentine from anybody. Weird.

If they've seriously tried parenting their child properly then perhaps a tough love thing. May be the police could do a mock arrest with handcuffs as I've seen happen with older children

Some key questions to ask yourself when looking at a claim, according to the Center for Media Literacy, are who created the content or was paid to do so, what techniques they’re using to attract your attention and why, and how might someone else understand their message differently than you do.

You should also consider what values and points of view are represented and omitted in the message, as well as why the message is being sent at all. For example, is someone trying to sell you something or trying to influence you for their own benefit?

This is a quick way to be partner free...causing someone to drink bodily fluids without their consent. Don't get me wrong, people willingly do it all of the time. However, if you have to be sneaky about it then it probably isn't a good idea.

Actually. before formula was invented is was normal for another new mother to breastfeed the child of a mother who couldn't for various reasons (including dying in childbirth). They were called wet nurses.

Gave mine ibuprofen. No problems. Tylenol safety is a dangerous myth. Pediatricians actually recommend alternating Tylenol with ibuprofen now. My adult niece almost had liver failure from it - no alcohol involved. Now they warn to not take it for hangovers (or with alcohol at all). Never worked for me anyway. Read about how Tylenol lobbied hospitals & put out fake news about ibuprofen. The only reason ibuprofen was banned was because it worked similarly to aspirin. The only reason aspirin was banned from kids was because some kids who took aspirin while having chicken pox ended up with Reyes Syndrome. Hmmmm, maybe because some kids have complications with chicken pox & back then aspirin was all we had to give them? Please, folks. Correlation does NOT imply causation.

With anesthetic she should not be in pain. It's the infection that's the problem. Without antibiotics it could travel to her heart and k**l her. Dental infections can turn deadly very quickly.

I had a dentist AND his assistant AND his receptionist try to shame me into letting them pull an infected too, BEFORE taking antibiotics. I've never been so mad in my life. I couldn't believe the receptionist was even shaming me when I was paying. Never went back.

Weirdly enough, tea tree oil may actually be helpful in killing of lice and eggs. However, on its own, the lice will still breed faster than the oil will k**l them.

Too much to unpack here….but putting the lice eggs in the garden so they don’t die? Why are you so keen to keep a nuisance species alive? And if that’s how you feel….why not let them live in their natural habitat (a human’s hair)?

Getting a lice comb and using it diligently at least twice daily and three times would be better, in about 2 weeks or so, the lice will be gone. My daughter could not tolerate the lice shampoo so this is what we had to do every year, when she was at that vulnerable age. It works, but it takes a great deal of time and commitment to do the entire head, absolutely thoroughly every single day with no exceptions.

No. That is a healthy combination of vitamins, minerals, fibre and protein. Just because you may not like those things, that's no reason to stop a baby from getting the nutrients they need. They don't have the developed palate that you have. The butter things a mystery, but the liver and sweet potato is good health food.

I've had training in first aid for children, and the instructor told us stories of real life incidents. One involved a toddler being given whole grapes while being driven to daycare. The mother arrived at the daycare, and opened the door for the employees to collect him only for all of them to be confronted by his dead body. He had choked to death right next to her without making a sound. So this one just makes me sad all over again as well as F*****G FURIOUS.

I was playing at my dad's feet while he watched TV when I was four. I popped an illicit jawbreaker into my mouth without him seeing and then choked. He only knew when I tried patting myself on the back. It was entirely soundless. My dad panicked and whacked me on the upper back and the jawbreaker sailed across the room. I would have died anywhere else. I don't know why I didn't hide in my room and eat the jawbreaker. It only takes once. Both my daddy and I were crying--I cried because I thought he hit me to hurt me, not save me. I'm 45 and still grateful that man hit me.

Recently, a friend found out her baby has Potter Syndrome. I can't imagine what it would be like to give birth, excited for my child and being a mom to the child, have the nursery perfect, and that baby die within minutes of birth with me having no idea of what was coming. She's weighing whether she wants to take the risk just to hold her first baby or abort to save a child that kind of pain and the kind of pain she'll endure, not really in giving birth, but in the baby dying in her arms, if the baby makes it full term. None of you know me and I've kept much about who I am closeted, such as where I live and have lived or the places I've worked or where I got my degrees. We're in Texas and I can be sued if anyone can prove I facilitated an out of state abortion if she goes that route. Even if I give her money or I'm caught talking with her about it that favors abortion. Potter Syndrome doesn't count as an acceptable reason unless my friend nearly dies from something like sepsis if she gets an infection from low amniotic fluid, for example.

No. It's not that simple. America has become bifurcated. The people who believe in science, get degrees, and become professionals will OWN these people. It will be slavery in everything but the name. Almost all of the books on utopian societies feature this. With restrictions on immigration the children of these mothers will be field hands and perform other manual labor for minimum wage. Because of the deficits in learning and the paranoid thinking taught to them by their mother they will willingly leave the political process to others. I almost look forward to it.

Maybe they should wake him to use the toilet when THEY are on their way to bed at night. He needs to train his brain to wake when his bladder is full, and this will help. My parents did that with my younger siblings and I did it with all the kids I've ever been responsible for starting at about age 2. I know some kids take longer but if their brain has never been trained to wake in the night, of course he's going to sleep right through. Be a PARENT and see to your child's needs.

Ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen) . Yes, the recommended maximum doe on the label may not be as high as the maximum safe dose, so in extreme situations a doctor may prescribe more, like if they're brought into ER with a critically high fever which needs to be reduced as quickly as possible. This mother doesn't understand that giving more medication for everyday problems will not have any greater effect but does run higher risks.

Baby has been exposed to all manner of sounds waves since conception. An ultrasound exam just focuses the sound waves and has a means of detecting what the waves are bouncing off of. Plus gestational diabetes is a risk to the baby.

Teachers Should Also Have To Wipe Children’s Behinds

That's à problem, since à 4 year old is not really able to wipe properly. OTOH, teachers should have nothing to do with kids' b*tts, as some people will be inclined to acuse them of being p*dos. In France, the pre-k teachers are assisted by ladies, who help the kids deal with logistical problems like putting shoes or coats on, but are also there in case of "accidents" (they can happen at that age) or to accompany à kid to the toilet and help them wipe properly.

When I taught first grade (5-6 year olds) I had a parent ask me if they could come in and feed their child snack and lunch every day because he didn't know how to use a fork, spoon, or knife. I suggested she teach him. She was not happy.

Some babies are just big. My middle son was huge, he was 25lbs at 4 months, was told I was feeding him too much breast milk, asked the nurse if I was to tell him he was on a diet when crying for milk. He's 16 now and 6ft2 slim and towers over me and his dad. He other joke he must be the milkman because he so big!

Well, that question can at least be answered immediately... For comparison, in the years 2009 to 2018 the US had 288 (!) school shootings, according to worldpopulationreview. In the same time, the next contender, Mexico, had 8 - probably because of its proximity to the US. Germany, for example, had ONE. And that was with a crossbow. See https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/school-shootings-by-country for source. That's why other countries do not do active shooter drills at school. There simply is no reason. But apparently the problem is that pupils do not carry guns...

Submitting fraudulent documents in a real estate transaction is a felony - unless the Supreme Court grants you immunity.

Dirty remarks like in sexual? Notify authorities and leave asap before he does something, how hard is that?

"Unnecessary" is not the correct term. Gross and inappropriate come to mind. And his mother does it too? Disgusting lineage there. Said as a victim of dirty remarks from a step-grandfather that everyone just brushed off as "that's just how he is".

What her baby deserves is a different mother. What the chat group deserves is a better administrator.

Lady, your "baby" is having sėx. She's 20 and NOT a teenager anymore. Get over it.

Well, technically she is 19 and still a teenager. However, your point stands. It's really gross to post things like this on the internet though, instead of talking to your daughter

Make HER get it out! It's part of being an adult. If you're responsible enough to have s.e.x. then you need to be responsible enough to clean up the mess it makes to have s.e.x.

This one is not odd. A lot of babies are allergic to cow's milk and goat milk is a great alternative. Obviously breast feed if able but that's not always an option.

A family story is that my great-grand-parents had to have a goat in their garden and milk her twice à day since my grand-father could not be breastfed (breast infection) and was allergic to cow's milk. At that time (1907), you couldn't find goat's milk in the shops.

I had a friend whose child was born without most of her small intestine and that's what the medical team recommended she have. Worked a treat and now she's a lovely healthy adult.
