We don’t all have what it takes to be an influencer. It often requires spending countless hours on social media, working hard to curate your image and apparently sometimes, being absolutely shameless when taking photos and videos in public. Most of us are happy to just watch from the sidelines, observing influencers in their natural habitats. But as the Influencers in the Wild Instagram account has taught us, having a large following unfortunately means you might be watched at all times.
This page is dedicated to catching influencers who are doing the absolute most to capture photos and videos of their everyday lives. And they’re getting plenty of exposure, as this page has nearly 5 million followers. So be sure to upvote the pictures you find to be impressively bold, and let us know in the comments: what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen an influencer do “for the perfect shot”?

As of 2021, social media sites had 4.26 billion users around the globe, and being an influencer has become a viable career for many (something our grandparents could have never dreamed of). Nowadays, we have the opportunity to curate whatever persona we like online, and perhaps even monetize it, but the role of social media and how it has impacted our world is a highly nuanced topic. So to gain some insight, we reached out to an expert in the field: Dr. Zoetanya Sujon.
Educator, researcher and author of The Social Media Age, Dr. Sujon explained that discussing the prevalence of how social media has affected our “real lives” is a complicated topic. “I would first begin by saying social media is real, and we live our lives on and off line,” she explained. “It can be unhelpful to think of what happens online as somehow separate from our lives. That said, as the expression ‘IRL’, we do often question what happens on social media - in terms of social connection, truth, and authenticity.”

As far as I'm concerned, "influencers" are just paid liars. If you have to adjust, modify, and pretend for a picture to influence someone, you are deceiving them into thinking what you're doing is natural and normal. It's all bs.

I feel like this one doesn't belong here. She clearly posted these herself... nobody shamed and there was no reason to do so. This is funny and could happen to anyone posing at the beach.

Consequently, this amplifies (good and bad) communication. Taking 'likes' as an example, we are more deeply embedded into a constant cycle of validation and affirmation (Does this look good? Is this funny? Relatable? Meaningful?). Second, people are more easily able to find others like them. Here we see the growth of niche or formerly marginalized communities, often stemming from social media as a vehicle for identity expression.”
“Third, social media has fundamentally changed our relationship with popular culture and cultural production,” Dr. Sujon told Bored Panda. “For example, we have seen a shift from celebrities as distant and untouchable stars, to the demand for quite intense relationships between creators/cultural producers and their audiences. In this way, it is possible to make connections with musicians, authors, government officials, artists etc. and meaningful interactions via social media.”

We also were curious what Dr. Sujon had to say about how influencers are impacting us, and she explained that it’s much more complicated than simply deeming them as positive or negative. “Influencers is a huge category and covers a wide range of creators, as well as potential impacts,” she noted. “We can think about the impact of influencers in a number of ways, including impacts on industry, on labor, and on our social perceptions of others.”
“In terms of labor, influencers present content that is relatable and often looks easy to create, symbolizing a highly appealing and comfortable lifestyle,” Dr. Sujon explained. “The reality is that content creation is hard graft, often requiring constant attention to audiences and grueling production schedules. Brooke Erin Duffy refers to this as aspirational labor and despite popular perceptions, only very few influencers are able to make a living from their work.”

Look up "flight attendant engine" images and you'll find hundreds of these going back 50+ years. This isn't an influencer thing, it's a tradition going back to at least the 60's. I'm a pilot on these aircraft, I guarantee you every single pilot and flight attendant have a pic of themselves in front of the engine, this is what they're doing, they're not 'influencers'. It's turned off, it's as safe as taking a pic in front of your parked car, and btw I have to stick my head right in there to inspect the engines before every flight - why is this submission on this page?

Hi there, Aviation Lover here! 👋🏼 I've seen such pix when I started being a Planespotter thirty years ago. I'd love to have a similar pic or the possibility to get close to the engine nowadays! I've been close to the new displayed LH A340 and LTU A330 but I took Hi8-videos that time, which are useless today... 😔 And of course airline staff is doing the Walk-Around and always check the engines! While off - because most people would not risk getting hurt by a running jet engine 😘 Safe travels and always happy landings! *expecting downvotes but undeserving*

These are flight attendants taking photos with a PARKED airplane at their place of work. Yes, there have been some extremely rare instances where someone has been sucked into a jet engine, but this vastly different. Please keep moving...nothing to see here.

Dr. Sujon also had some wise words for any young people who have dreams of becoming an influencer. “It is not as easy as it seems, so be prepared for hard work. The best thing a young person could do to prepare themselves is to focus as much on understanding contracts, brand partnerships, and business as you do on content creation and what you present on social media.”
And when it comes to whether or not social media as a whole is negative or positive, Dr. Sujon shared, “Social media are important tools, ones that have become central to everyday life. They can be used and experienced in tremendously powerful ways, with both negative and positive impacts.”
Finally, in reference to Influencers in the Wild specifically, Dr. Sujon wanted to note that the page does not take into consideration what a wide variety of influencers there are out there. She pointed out that the page seems to target “the bland narcissism of creator culture” and “perpetuates popular misogyny which undermines the largely feminized creative labor of social media creators”. Remember that influencers are not a monolith, and we can't judge them all through the lens of this page.

Start by (trying to) swim butterfly - mermaid kick/dolphin kick are the same thing. Then use an elastic band - a big one, made out of 8-12”of 2” elastic - LOOSELY (to start with) around your ankles, keeping them together. Once you’re used to having your feet tied together, tighten the elastic & have another go. Then you’re good to graduate to a uni-fin you can get on Amazon for a 20-spot. The action is easy. Head down, bottom up, feet down. Then reverse: head up, bottom down, feet up. And finally head down, bottom up, feet down with a big push - that’s your propulsion right then & there. As long as you’re in a swimming pool, make sure you stay close to the edge to start with so you can grab the wall when your feet don’t respond the way you hope - it really doesn’t take much to panic yourself. Have that wall handy as soon as you put an elastic on your ankles, and preferably do at least your first session with a friend. Even confident swimmers need to be careful.
To gain even more insight on the topics of social media and being an influencer, we also reached out to life coach, podcaster, and author of several books, including Stop Checking Your Likes, Susie Moore. First, we asked Susie why she thinks we should all stop checking our likes. "Seeking external approval is a recipe for misery - because our sense of peace and steadiness is always outside of us," she told Bored Panda. "It's fun to engage and be yourself on social media. But if your joy is affected by your popularity or lack of it, you're living on an emotional rollercoaster -always at the whim of other peoples behavior and interest in you. Social media isn't good or bad - it's neutral. It's how it affects us that matters. It can be a source of entertainment or a source of pain. When you care less about how liked you are - online and offline - this is where your freedom lies."

My dads friend used to be a queens guard and he had some hilarious stories of tourists posing for pictures with him. They used to have a points system depending on the weirdness of the photo and see who had the most points at the end of the month (or maybe year I can't remember?)! He also said he loved it when he had to do his March (like every 15 minutes or other set period) as it was done with no warning and would freak tourists out who got too close. If they tried to touch him or his gun he got to shout at them as a- they're working and b- it's a real, live gun! Suppose this all helps the time go faster

When done correctly this is the hand position. Problem here is that they are trying to do an acrobatic move incorrectly (presumably they don't have any acrobatic training), they are also doing this on a soft and shifting surface which isn't recommended.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking photos with your friends or being a social media influencer. If you find a way to monetize your Instagram and pics of yourself, more power to you! But just remember that not every single moment needs to be captured. Sometimes it's best to just live in the moment! And if you're caught taking a photo of yourself, just own it. I'm sure we all have a selfie or two (or two hundred) hiding in our camera roll. Live and let live, he's not doing anything that's gong to bother me, but as a warning to anyone who wants to do this, a structure fire has a *lot* of dangerous fumes in it, and the best case scenario here is spending several days with a throat that feels like it's been used as a gravel truck. And of course stay the hell out of the way of first responders but I don't see any around so as long as they were out of the way before any got there, still nbd.

This is Campidoglio Square in Rome. In the buildings around the statue there are: the city council and Mayor's office, two or three museums and the rooms where you can marry with a civil (not religious) ceremony. Therefore there's around a zillion people every single minute,doing their business, getting married or visiting some very important tourist points. So, why don't flash your panties?

Settle down, class. These people did not take anything from anywhere and they didn't drag a string of lights across open traffic. Look at the gray car in picture number one and compare it to the gray car, in the same spot, in picture two. They are the same car and both photos have been taken from the same spot using the same orientation. If the camera guy were across the street, the corner/intersection would be to his right, not his left. This is their own string of lights being used as a prop to match the aesthetic.

Reversed your needless downvote. It took me a WHILE to figure out why so many pandas were seeing something else in these photos. I mean I had to look HARD. If you pretend it's an optical illusion and look at both pics together, it **kind of** appears that the photog is across the street with the lights running across. But you also have to pretend that the cars are not identical and that every intersection on earth faces the exact same way.

I don't know why there's the assumption these are all "influencers" intending to put their photos/videos on social media, rather than say legitimate actors, filmmakers, film students, or musicians/singers making music videos to promote their music. Or just ordinary people who like to take photos?? I have a private Insta that only my real life friends and family can access, I still like to take nice photos to post.
