When you spend every day sitting like that, it gets normal.

They are so happy, and I am so sad. Thank goodness for childhood innocence, it's neuro protective, so we can thrive in the most harsh of circumstances during these formative years, when we don't know any better. The scars begin to form, but we don't know it, and it all unfolds in adulthood and the coping begins, or lack there of.

Results from a global survey showed that Indonesian children are among the happiest in the world, despite having some of the lowest academic achievement. Many people in Indonesia smile every day, and appear happy. They believe in destiny, and just consider that they cannot do anything to change their lives. So they smile. And wait for someone else to solve all the problems in the country.

This is good. After a monsoon, (or indeed any time) the amount of plastic and other rubbish left behind is profuse and if it wasn’t for these people it would remain there to continue polluting. Also, they can earn, albeit meagre, a wage.

How would they agree if it is just relocation while what they need is job. Give em proper job, and they'll move along accordingly. Relocation without job makes them unable to pay rent on new location, which would promptly make them move back again.

"Relocation" is just a word here. Sadly, people living in the slums are never relocated. One day, a few worksite engines will come and demolish everything. Those living in the area will have no choice but to move. Let's hope that the area will not be "needed" for a long while.

It's actually a special kind of gum/bubble. See the right side where it looks cracked? You blow through a tube and the gum-material makes the bubble, then turns into a tick gel that closes right there, and you can remove it from the tube. It remains 'solid' for about a day depending on temp. We brought those from France when I was a kid. I also remember it smelt kinda weird, my dad didn't like it at all.

Also I can say from my experience that there are very few people who have the commitment this man has to get up at 3 am walk 40km a day all to make some money for his household.... we (America) are WAY too lazy to do something like that.

I'm American but I lived in Indo for years. Everyone smokes. It's not very expensive compared to what it's like in the US and it is everywhere. Tattoos are pretty hard to come by in most places and it is likely he received these in prison.

Its kinda different context for the tobacco. Government had several initiatives for it (campaign, packaging, marketing restriction, etc). However, tobacco usage is part of cultural/custom things. Thats why, imho, its so hard to change it. The goverment statistical agency even show that the spending by poor people on smoke/tobacco is higher than their spending for meat/chicken. Its a sad fact :(

Um, people can easily tat themselves for nothing. They are risking diseases and sicknesses but its very easy. All u need is something sharp, preferably a needle, thread and ink. Don't be quick to judge. Tats are a way for them to express themselves not like in the U. S.

I think the tattoos were made back then when he is younger. Getting money by being a criminal. And now the he have a family, I think his priority is reordered and gave up the criminal world even though he still lives in a slum area

OK, break this down, it just says that a transgender person lives there and, as of now, they don't have equal rights. What does your first sentence even mean? Of course they're referring to a human, but it doesn't literally say, "The human here is transgender" - I'm missing your point, what are you trying to say?
