Throughout human history, photographs have captured raw, poignant moments that resonate deeply with our shared human experience. From the the desperate mother's gaze during the Great Depression captured in "Migrant Mother", to the jubilant sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square at the end of World War II, these emotional snapshots offer an unfiltered insight into the highs and lows, the triumphs and tragedies, of our collective past.
Instagram page by the name of "Pictures of Humanity" collects such photographs all in one place to share with their audience. Today we'd like to share some of the best ones with you, Pandas.

Protesting The Ban On High School Girls Wearing Slacks In Brooklyn, NY. 1942
Well if it ain't the most well-dressed protest I've ever come by...
I remember my mom making me wear a dress for a family photo when I was 3. I hated it, it didn't feel right. I couldn't have explained it then but I don't like having my legs exposed. Wearing a dress was like walking out in public naked. My "shorts" are jeans with the knees ripped out. I am so glad these ladies took the risk to fight for their rights so people like me could dress as we like, not as some old fart demands.
Honestly, what would be wrong with girls wearing pants? Serious question. I don't understand it.
I remember reading things about how pants are for men, and so women can't wear them. Or that pants draw too much attention to a woman's backside. Nonsense stuff really.

However, that doesn't mean I am completely devoid of judgement. Grown-a*s adult throwing a tantrum because they won't take your coupon at Target, umm..I'm judging you!

He may have been the doctor who died in Wuhan.
Load More Replies...Dr. Lyu Jun. I find publications from 2022 in his name, so probably he is ok.
I worked in a large hospital in Connecticut as Covid was moving into the area. My younger children and mother moved in with my eldest son so I could work in the Covid ICU and not infect the family. We didn't know what to expect. But I knew it was what I needed to do. I remember my son crying on the phone one night as I described the increasing numbers of Covid patients. No one knew what was going to happen. Would hospital staff get sick? How bad was this? It didn't seem real. But then Covid hit NYC. Then Massachusetts. Them one day we had two covid patients. Then twenty. Then 100...and it became very real. All i did was work and sleep. And work became a war zone. We were running out of resources. Patients were dying. Families weren't allowed in. There were not enough doctors and nurses and respiratory therapists to go around. We learned how to prone patients. We learned how to video chat with families...and to show them difficult scenes of their loved ones suffering or dying.
We learned how to let things go. If a patient was turned once that shift it was considered a win. If mouth care got done it was a miracle. Charting came second to patient care. Like it did for everyone else, Covid became our new normal. It's so strange now, not wearing masks at work. Seeing smiling faces. Visitors coming and going. I hope we never have to live through that again!

In Australia, we feel this deeply. Just the smell of smoke puts most of us on edge now. I can't be in the forest where my family lives and just see the beauty of it anymore, without also feeling a sense of impending doom. My aunt just built a tiny fire bunker out of stones she collected in the bush, in case the fire front comes through and they can't make it to their dam in time. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen, and I hope they never have to use it
Load More Replies...That must be terrifying to live in Australia when there are fires like this
The fear is indescribable. My husband and I narrowly escaped the fires three times. And when I say narrowly escaped, I mean we had to drive through the fire to get to safety. We went to bed on January 1st around 11 PM with nearest fire being hundreds of km away. By 3 AM, fire crews were pounding on our door telling us we had less than 5 minutes to evacuate. The first two shelters we went to were evacuated too. Our final refuge was the beach. We came really close to having to flee into the water because we were trapped on the beach. We’ve experienced wildfires on our property in the US but our experience in Australia was 10x worse.
Load More Replies...I see Australians being totally chill with deadly wildlife wandering into their homes and, from what I've seen, they don't complain they just handle it and move on. And then I see these fires bullying them on the regular. Mother Nature, give these guys a damn break lady!
What makes it worse is that the original fires happened to start along the same route that the government had proposed to build railway infrastructure to carry goods from southern ports in Victoria to New South Wales. It had been strongly opposed by the people whose homes stood in the way. While the country was burning the prime minister was on holiday. He eventually reluctantly returned, but not to pretend to care. He decided that it was more appropriate to invite the New Zealand cricket team play on his lawn.

The picture is staged and the milkman was the photographers assistant, it was all part of the stay calm mentality. Worked really well.
At the time, the British government banned any photos of firefighting, etc., for fear they would lower morale. The photographer got his assistant to pose - this was the only way he could sneak a photo of the firefighters into the shot.
I read few books about WWII and in all of them ordinary Brits always sound like "Bombing? Yeah, there was some bombing, but we didn't get hit and the old teapot from my grandma is still in one piece, so we just continue." It is fascinating and very inspiring.
There was also a widespread propaganda campaign from the homeland ministry that pushed that "calm and collected" narrative, to "make it real". This photo is part of that operation.

The bombings of Naples were a disgrace. Naples was a strategic city, with a large port, a minor sub pen and some refineries that were legitimate military targets, but both of those were well separated from the densely populated and poorly defended historical city center. The Allied started bombing the industrial targets, but then begun carpet bombing the city without any real necessity, going on for months. Pilots kept adding to the bombing also machine-gun strafing runs onto the most populated roads, a war crime that kept being perpetrated even *after* the signing of the surrender. Keep in mind that the city was already providing very little support to the Fascists -and it ultimately revolted against them- but had over 20k killed by indiscriminate and useless attacks
It also suffered the last major German air raid of the War after it was liberated. It damaged the mustard gas containers the Allies were unloading in the harbor. It killed more than 100 people. Thanks to the Lord beyond this it wasn't used in Europe during the War.

When we got there, they said all the cots had already been assigned to other families and there was nothing they could do (Gallic shrug). She couldn't sleep in the bed with us because it had a gap in the middle (common in continental Europe) and we were worried it would open up and swallow her! A Bystander Attempts To Catch A Cup Of Moonshine Being Poured Out By Police During The Prohibition Era. 1925
You mean like the guy who drank straight from a wine tanker in California? 😁
Load More Replies...I still am amazed that the United States said 'Yep. No beer from now on forever'. Idiotic.
They didn't. They agreed to do a thing in principle (the constitutional amendment) and passed the matter to a commission who came up with much stricter rules. I think an awful lot of people were expecting to be allowed to drink most things at home, and beer and wine in public - whilst outlawing saloons which sold spirits. It was a bit leopards ate my face.

My local museum has a pair of overalls worn by him, and the fly is 19 buttons long
I kept seeing post like this, and only now did I get the reference, curse my slow brain

I wonder how many times he got asked what the weather was like up there?
Child Car Seats In 1940
I remember the days when I was a toddler sitting on my dad's lap, steering the car while he drank a beer, wait, that was last week, but we both had beers. Oh how time flies.
Probably had suicide doors (hinges toward the back instead of the front)
Load More Replies...Why would they think putting the baby all the way high up like that would be good? Doesn't even look like she's strapped in.
Strapped in? Race car drivers hadn't yet adopted seatbelts.
Load More Replies...I would've thought it'd be safer to just put her in a normal seat.
No doors, either. Get that kid some fresh air. (yes, I know about suicide doors...)

A Man Floating In The Dead Sea With A Book And An Umbrella. 1920
I really wanna float here, I’m a natural floater and ‘otter’ about for ages in water, but I want to try this water and feel like I’m ‘Jesus-ing’ on water
Floating in the Dead Sea was great. It's amazing that in only about 4 ft of water it is nearly impossible to stand up once you have laid flat. I'm 6'4 tall and I couldn't. It literally feels like oil on your skin. The big warning you get, don't shave for 2 days before you go in because of the salt content.
I went to the Dead Sea! It's an amazing experience! The water feels weird, kind of like oil and it makes your skin feel slippery. Floating in it is insane! You can't swim easily in it because you're floating and bobbing around. When you flip to your stomach, it's hard to flip back over. But the ground, instead of sand is salt and it's painful to walk on. Plus, if you cut yourself on salt, the salty water gets in it and stings horribly
ive been to the Dead Sea and it really is strange just to float like this. When you get out of the sea you have to shower straight away, showers on the beach, as if you dry yourself without the shower you will scratch your skin to pieces

According to Japanese law, my adopted son cannot get Japanese citizenship even though his adoptive mother (my wife) is Japanese....
Load More Replies...Japan has a birth rate problem. The elderly are well-cared for (props for that), but this places a tax burden on young people, who can’t afford to have children. The only way to stop the coming crisis is to allow immigration of (gasp!) non-Japanese.

Parents Attempt To Heal A Child Suffering From Rickets By Dragging Him Through A Healing Tree. 1918
To be fair, a cure for the illness would not be understood until 5 years later, while the ivermectine imbeciles already had plenty of scientific data disproving the efficacy and a cure in the works or already deployed.

When they really should’ve just fed the kid more milk, eggs, and cheese if they could get them. Deficiencies in Vitamin D and Calcium are a cause of rickets.
Double props if they did this during twilight hours with no actual sunlight - I’m so sorry to be mean about rickets, it’s not funny
Back then, there was no viable alternative and desperate people will try anything. I hope the poor kid lived a good life. (It's possible that the myth grew from taking a city dwelling child out into the countryside, which could have taken weeks, where they'd then get more vitamin D from sunlight.)

Why do these posts say "change your perspective on things???" Yes, the world has lots of beauty, people do good every day, but all that bad stuff also is there every day, so I see no reason to change perspective. 2 posts before this one is people who realized their besties actually hate them, this post doesn't change the fact that people use and abuse each other.
I thin these can be good to start healthy conversations. I sent a note to a daughter with that idea.
